Coverting a high speed cassette recording

Help! My daughter sent me a cassette that was recorded at high speed. (She is on a mission for our church) I have imported it into garageband to see if I could figure out how to slow it down so that it is comprehensible but I can't seem to slow it down any. Does anyone have an idea of how to do that?

  • How can a session be setup between two MacBook Pro's at different locations on high speed Internet connections, be setup to have a live recording session in Logic?

My partner and I live on opposite sides of the valley here in Phoenix. About 50 miles apart one way. We are Musicians and are working on a commercial for television, and would like to know if there is a way, between FaceTime and Logic, that we can configure our MacBook Pro's to record sessions together without having to be at the same house? When we FaceTime, he can hear my keyboard through his headphones, but we can't seem to get the signal routed into Logic and register to a track when its record enabled. Is there a way for us to save gas, and record at seperate locations, so he can engineer me and I can engineer him, while we build this project in Logic and Final Cut? Here is what we are using, we have nearly identicle setups, which was planned so we might be able to do something like this. Both of us are using Mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro's with 2.6GHz Intel i7 processors and 16GB RAM. The only difference between the two MacBooks is that his has an Optical Drive, but I removed mine and replaced it with a 2nd SSD Drive, so I have two Samsung 840 Pro's each with 512GB in my MacBook Pro. His just has one Samsung 840 Pro with 512GB. We both use Focusrite Saffire Liquid 56 Firewire Audio Interfaces, and we both use Logic Studio 9 Academic. I don't know if you need to know what we are using in order to help us figure out how to configure the MacBooks for a live session, so I figured I would give you those details just in case. If you need any more information, just let me know? Oh, we both have high speed cable Internet connections. Mine is 150Mbps speed which is the absolute fastest I can get in my area. And his is only a 50Mbps speed line.
Again, what we are looking to do is have a LIVE recording session, in Logic, with him at his house and me at my house. When we FaceTime each other, we can pretty much hear each others keyboards as if they were part of the conversation, and as crystal clear as we can hear our own when recording, but we can't seem to record enable an Audio track in Logic and route that keyboard signal into Logic and record it so we can engineer each other without either one of us having to drive to the others house, to be there to do it. If any of this even makes sense, I'm not quite sure how to better explain it. So hopefully you get what I mean, otherwise just say so, and I will try to do a better job explaining it.  :-)
Anyone who can help us with this little problem would be greatly appreciated, and quite a hero in these two humble Musicians Worlds!! So from both of us, THANK YOU in advance for any input you might be able to give us. I look forward to hearing any and all suggestions.
    Scott

    Hey Scott
You and ALOT of people are attempting to do this, myself included.
Unfortunately at this point (to my knowledge) it's a pretty CRAP setup involved that will likely leave you frustrated.
    HOWEVER:
A few things CAN be done:
IF you are getting live audio from your partner over the internet, you can re-direct that audio directly into Logic using a program called SoundFlower.
There are a few alternatives to SoundFlower, like JackTrip, and.....(the name eludes me)
(SoundFlower is from a company called Cyling 74 who also makes Max MSP. )
Once in Logic, you set your audio inputs to the track to be Soundflower. (either 16 inputs, or in this case 2)
That all being said, regardless to speed, you are still going to experience latency in the connection, and THAT is the part that will likely drive you to the mad house.
THIS all being said, I believe there are websites out there that are set up to actually do this kind of thing, (at least there WERE) but likely membership costs, and other "hidden" problems that you only learn about after you have signed on the dotted line. (Hopefully I am wrong?)
If you don't need to do a "live jam", there are always solutions like DropBox that work very well for exchanging large files quickly.
If you want to record live MIDI input from his keyboard, I am unaware of any solutions for this.
Due to the popularity of the iPad, you might want to look into the App store, and see if there is something available.
    Good luck!

  • Help! Trying to record/render high speed movies (1/1000fps). Can I do this?

I am trying to make high speed movies of the twitches. My camera can do up to 1/10000 fps analog but I cannot change the raw video fps. I believe it is 29.97, because of this each frame has 2 or more captures on it. No good! Can anyone help.

What camera is this? How is it recording the footage?
I had footage from a camera that shot at 2000fps to a hard drive..a high speed computer camera. That raw footage wan't something I could use in FCP, as it was some proprietary format. They needed to export it from their system as a Quicktime movie...Animation codec. And it being a computer camera, it captured with computer monitor dimensions, 800x600. So I had some resizing to do.
    How does your camera work?

  • Converting cassette to cd using garageband.  Voice on cassette sounds like chipmunk.  Is there a way to fix the speed during recording on garageband, so the voice sounds normal?

Librarian Asst. needs your help!  Trying to preserve WWII veteran's interviews presently on cassette.  However, on one cassette the voices sound like chipmunks (speed too fast during recording).  I know how to transfer the cassette recording onto garageband.  I just don't know how to transfer the recording at a slower speed, so that the voices will sound normal.  Is there a way?  Please help.  Thanks.

You could try two things (sorry, I can only point you to the current settings in GB'11, since I no longer have GB '09) but it should be very similar.
The easiest thing would be, if the vocal transformers do work. You can change the pitch of a voice using a "Vocal Transformer" effect. Click the "Edit" tab in the "Info" panel and click an empty brick to add a filter:
If that does not work, try to change the timing of the track. Enable "Follow Tempo&Pitch". If GB '09 does not have "follow tempo & pitch", record your tape directly into a Real Instrument track in GB to record a purple region.
Use the tempo slider in the LED display to lower the tempo, till the recording does sound more natural.
    Good Luck,
    Léonie

  • Using the iphone to view a video recorded on a separate high speed camera

I use a high speed video camera to film athletic motion. Can I play this back on my iphone? The files are in avi format and would I require any adaptors. Thanks, I am very new to using the iphone.

Does anyone know what settings I should use to export a 1080p video for playback on iPhone4? I'm hoping to use the iPhone4 to playback 1080p video on 1080p monitor. Is this possible?
No. Only the iPhone 4S, iPad3, and TV3 currently support 1080p30 content. Even then the 1080p30 playback support for your monitor may depend on how the device is connected. The iPhone 4 is limited to 720p30 playback.
Is it possible to keep the higher quality for playback through a 1920x1080 hd monitor?  Otherwise, would I be able to sync a 1920x1080 mov file to a new iPad or other device?
Not on your current device. As previously stated, the latest generation of iPhone, iPad, and TV devices support a maximum 1080p30 playback capability but may be limited to lower resdolutions depending on your method of connection to your monitor. This information can be found on the Apple web site TechSpecs page for each respective device.

  • Advice on buying camera for stills and high speed video

    Hello video pros,
I'm a music composer who occasionally dallies with some simple photographic and video work. I'm looking for some advice re picking up a camera to make some simple videos, but with the highest quality I can get with consumer grade gear.
I am pretty much ruling out consumer grade camcorders for two reasons:  One is that I want to be able to shoot high quality stills and make stop motion videos from very high res stills.  The other is that I don't need audio recording at all because the video will always be just to accompany music - simple music videos basically.  So I'm much more interested in the recent mid range point-and-shoot bridge cameras with full HD video modes rather than camcorders - they seem to cover more realistically the range of things I want to do.
My main question is regarding shooting at higher frame rates than 30 fps. I'd like to shoot video at a minimum of 60 fps (or higher) to then playback at 25 fps to get that smooth, slightly dreamy motion effect. There are a few cameras out there that offer high speed video modes, but most are nothing more than a gimmick because the res is so low that the resulting video is unusable.  However a few cameras now seem to hit a sweet spot, offering 60 fps recording at HD res, and also 120 fps at 640x480 which (at a pinch) is usable, at least for stuff destined for simple web use.
The cameras I've narrowed it down to so far seem to be the Nikon Coolpix P500, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 and possibly the Fujifilm HS20 EXR.  I also was vaguely interested in the Casio Exilim HS cameras, but they seem to only offer high speed video modes that are pointless - 1000 fps at a completely useless low res, and 120 fps only at 640x480.  The others I listed seem to offer at least 60 fps at some kind of HD res, so I'm assuming that with these cameras I could shoot decent looking video which would then play back with that slightly hyper real slow-mo effect when I import into FCP at 25 fps.  Is this correct?  Or is it the case that when they say HD video @ 60fps, it's some kind of interlaced mode which means you can't play back at a slower frame rate to get smooth slow motion?
The other thing I've noted is that all of these cameras do record HD video, but it's always compressed in H264 format.  I understand that this puts a serious limitation on how much post-processing you can do to the video afterwards.  Highly compressed video will begin to show image artefacts very quickly when you apply effects as opposed to higher quality (bigger file size) video compression.  But I think I can live with that given that for the stuff I want to make, it will just be simply edited and only lightly graded.  However, of the cameras I'm looking at, the Lumix also records in a format called AVCHD which (I think) does full HD at 17 Mbps.  Does this mean that it's basic video quality is significantly better than the other choices?  That said, from the specs it's unclear if it actually allows shooting at higher frame rates which you can slow down at playback.. the way it describes 60fps mode makes it sound like it's just interlacing so you don't actually get a higher number of images per second to then be able to play back at a lower frame rate.  This for me might rule it out because I really want the creative effect of high speed video, even if it's only the subtle effect of 60 fps slowed down to 25.
So in summary, I'm looking for a camera capable of creative shooting (high quality stills to make stop motion videos, usable-quality HD video along with at least some degree of high speed video at a resolution that is still usable) to make interesting and artistic footage to accompany music.  The destination medium is the web, so even though I'd like to get the best quality raw material to work with, the final destination is not exactly a cinema screen.  As a pro in a related industry, I'm all too aware of the pointlessness of buying outlandishly over-specced gear that is far beyond your level of expertise.  So I want to keep it simple and realistic, budget-wise, given the level I'm at.  Nothing more than say $800 US.  A seriously high end camera would be wasted on me, and I think it would be wiser to invest in useful accessories like a steadicam merlin and decent tripod rather than blow loads of cash on a camera far beyond my skill level.
Apologies for the long post, any and all advice would be very welcome and appreciated!  And feel free to correct me if my assumptions are wrong, and suggest any gear that I should consider looking at.

Hi, thanks for your input.  I'm aware of the fact that my question is a bit OT, but I'm just looking for input from people with more experience and broader information in this area than I have myself.. I know people are here to talk about FCP, but I'm betting many editors and film makers who work with FCP will have more insight in this area than I do.
I've been reading every review I can find at dpreview, and also am watching as many test video examples I can find on the internet, mostly on vimeo because the ones on youtube look pretty awful.  I just am reaching out to get some actual experience and advice from people who might give me pointers on what to look out for.
As for 60fps not being fast enough, I know what you're saying.  But for me, even 60 fps slowed down to 25 fps on playback is enough of an interesting effect, as long as the actual quality of the footage looks good to start off with.  I like the subtle effect of slightly slower than real motion when it's real, bona-fide high frame rate slowed down.  Artificially created slow-mo using plug ins looks cheesy to me, and the gimmicky super high frame rates of cameras like the casio exilim (where the resolution looks like a mobile phone video from ten years ago) are completely useless.
I've seen lots of examples on vimeo of stuff shot with DSLRs from Canon and Nikon at 60fps and then played back at 25 or 24, and it looks plenty nice enough for what I'm after.  But am I kidding myself that I'd get anything near as nice with the price range I'm looking at?

  • Ideal settings to send PDF's to a high speed B&W print production machine

I have a few OCE 6250's and a Xerox Nuvera 120.  All high speed black and white print production machines.  I'm having some trouble sending true 300 dpi PDF's that have page counts in the 10,000's.  What are the recomended settings in Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard?  Please note, I have no issue printing these same files using Foxit Reader so I'm not sure what's causing this issue on Adobe's end.  Thank you.

    Hello PAHU,
Thanks for coming to my aid again.
Some of the things I'm scanning are records that need to be good as photocopies because I will have to email them or copy-or-print and snail mail them.
That's interesting about how the PDF file is made. I thought PDF would be a native format and chose it for "compatibility". I'm not sure if everyone have apps that can handle TIFFs (especially on the PC side). My recollection from scanning in the 90s with my Paperport is that TIFFs can print "huge" or "teeny" depending on the settings it was scanned at.
Using your advice scanning with Preview set to B&W as TIFF and PDF and both times the files were smaller. Thank you so much.
I also tried converting the TIFF to PDF in Graphic converter because I can batch convert documents that way. However, I noticed that the printouts of the B&W scans are rather poor quality. On the other hand the B&W scans print out as the whole page and not with a white border like the color scans do.
The B&W pdfs scan slightly smaller than the TIFFs. So that's probably what I will do for these documents.
I will have to search out /experiment with the OCR for things that I can save as text when I get a chance.
I have so much to learn about scanning.

  • High-speed business partner search

    Hi, all
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_crm60/helpdata/fr/b0/7ff3f1b791481f89147cacc02de8bc/content.htm
If high-speed business partner search is set up in your system, you can enable it in the account identification profile so that all interaction center (IC) agents assigned to this profile can use high-speed search to identify accounts in the IC WebClient. For searching large numbers of business partner records, high-speed search is more efficient than standard search because it stores and indexes your account data in main memory. To maximize the availability of high-speed search, the data is updated from the database once every six hours (default setting), though you can change this setting to balance freshness of data with maximum system performance.
Do you know about successfully implementation of this functionality?
    Do you use this functionality?

  • Shoot in high speed and slow down in FCP

    Hi All
I’m planning to shoot footage HD that I would like to slow down almost 20% but I’ll rather avoid the jitter that usually shows on the video. I understood that I have to shoot in high speed. Do you have any suggestion of how to do this…
I was thinking to change the shutter speed of my camera but I’m not sure how much I have to change it.
    I’m shooting with a Sony FX1
Best and thank you for the help
    Lina

To shoot at a 'high speed', you need a camera such as the Varicam that will record at higher frame rate than 30fps. I believe the HVX-200 will allow you to overcrank things a bit (60p).
Otherwise, something like Shake will do a much better job slowing footage than FCP.
    Good luck.

  • Videos play too fast on ipad - sounds like super high speed mini mouse

We just bought the ipad and when we play videos on vimeo or youtube they play at an ultra high speed like the fps is messed up - it sounds like a record being played too fast
Is this our ipad or a setting - we are worried because we do not see the problem listed anywhere else.
    Thanks!

Have your rebooted/restarted your iPad? you do that by pressing the Home and power/sleep button at the same time until the slider to power off the iPad appears. Slide the slider and when screen activity stops depress the two buttons again until the Apple logo appears. When the iPad completes rebooting try again to see if that solved your problem.

  • MP3 imported, but being played in high speed?!

    Hello community,
Having Captivate 2, I'm wondering why this happens... It
    worked in Captivate 1 perfectly.
I record and modify the audio recordings externally from
Captivate using Adobe Audition (1.5 or 2; depending on the machine
    I'm working on).
In Captivate 1, to have a low file size of the SWF file, I
imported MP3 files in 48 kbps, 41,100 KHz, 16 Bit Mono quality.
Using Captivate 2 in editing mode, when I import MP3 files,
everything seems fine. I hear everything OK. But once I publish the
project the audio is being played in high speed!!
Now, I tried importing plain WAV files, sure. But there is
    another problem.
I can easily modify the audio quality from within Captivate
2, and this is great! I publish the project's audio in the above
48kbps quality. However, the end result is a kind of blurry audio.
Just poor quality. It seems the narrator is speaking half into
    water.
Now, once I publish the project in an audio quality of 96
kbps the blurry effect is gone. But the file size increased
    dramatically, which is not good.
Anyone aware of a solution? :-)
    Thanks!
    Stefan

    Ditto...
But my issue is that they sound great in preview but slow way
down on playback. I suspect that in the import/converting process,
the bit rate or sample rate is getting corrupted.
I do not use the record function of Captivate, using Audacity
and a Lexicon Alpha sound card. I can set any number of options
during recording and have the ability to export in a number of
formats (WAV, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, MP2).
Does anyone have a 'best practices' suggestion for the
recording settings that would prevent any need for
import/converting and therefore reduce the possibility of
    corruption?

  • I have an NI5911 high speed digitizer and would like to acquire a video signal from a CCD using it. Does anyone know if this is possible without buying any more hardware please? If it is, how would I go about it?

The only thing I succeeded in finding on the NI site was about using a different high-speed digitizer in tandem with an IMAQ card but I was hoping not to have to buy an IMAQ card as it means I may as well not have got the NI5911 (a while ago) in the first place. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can certainly acquire video signals with the 5911. The only tricky part is that the 5911 does not have any video triggering options. That means that you will have to either find a way to provide your own trigger based on the video signal (that's where the IMAQ board comes into play) or you can just take a lot of data and keep only the data you need once it is in software. For instance, you could take one large record and then use software analysis to determine where the frame sync occurs. Hopefully this was helpful.

  • Synchronisation of M Series and High Speed Digitizer

    Hello everybody,
i just have a question regarding synchronisation/timing of two different PCI cards (M-Series PCI 6220 and High Speed Digitizer PCI 5112, connected via RTSI cable).
I wonder how I can synchronise signals, because those cards use different mechanisms in Labview for timing and synchronisation.
Can anybody tell me, how I can synchronise the clocksignals and let them use the same trigger (actually I want to use the external trigger of the 5112)? Witch VIs do I have to use?
    Thanks in advance
    Oliver

    Hello!
First of all many thanks for your reply.
Exporting the external trigger from the 5112 to 6220 via RTSI works.
Synchronising the clocks in the same way as you wrote doesn't seem to work. May be I did something wrong.
What I did was the following:
I exported the "reference clock" signal of the PCI 5112 using "niScope export signal.vi" to RTSI 7.
Than I used the daqmx "sample clock.vi"  to configure the
clock.  I used the instance "sample clock" with "dev1/RTSI 7" as
the source (dev 1 actually is PCI 6220) and as sample mode "continous
samples". I started the PCI 6220 (daqmx) first, after that I started
    the 5112 (niScope).
Running this vi I get the following error:
"ADC conversion attempted before the prior conversion was complete.
Increase the period between ADC conversions. If you are using an
external clock, check your signal for the presence of noise or
    glitches."
This is still a small problem, but meanwhile I came to a bigger one:
I thought I could use the 6220 in the same way I can use the 5112:
I want to fetch (or read) data on both cards contionously but also
periodically. The period time is given by the External trigger I
mentionend before. Till now I didn't find a way to aquire the data from
the 6220 in records of a given length (let's say 100 samples, at 1kHz)
every time the trigger occurs (External Trigger rate is about 250 Hz).
This is possible with the 5112 board, but I wonder if this is also
    possible with the 6220?
    Kind regards
    Oliver
    PS: Sorry for the "witch"

  • Fans at high speed even when idle

The fans on my iMac have been running at high speed all the time for a few weeks. I don't know why: I've installed no new software except for system updates. The fans used to be almost silent.
XResourceGraph records the CPU temperature in the high 60s (Celsius) and CPU fan speeds of 5500-6000. The fan speed stays around here most of the time (regardless of how many applications are running - even if I'm running none at all!), and never drops below about 3500.
    I've tried:
    a) resetting SMU
    b) resetting the PRAM
    c) vacuuming the inside of the iMac
... all to no avail. Any further suggestions please?
    Thanks in advance!

In most scenarios you shouldn't need to forward ports, however if you need to, you may be best contacting your ISP.
As with most router issues, I would recommend that you contact your ISP with details of your problem (assuming that it was your ISP that provided it to you).
There are simply too many manufacturers with different software features and settings and often different names for such features and settings, that the best advice will likely come from those that are knowledgeable about your particular router.
