Wow, I may be losing my mind, you're right.  I guess I was doing what you said out of old habits and not even realizing it.  Much appreciated.

    You can't.
The components of MS Office 2004 (which includes Word 2004) are PowerPC apps. In order to run PowerPC apps in Snow Leopard and earlier on an Intel Mac required the assistance of Rosetta software. Lion does not support Rosettta, so such apps can not be used in Lion.
In order to use your documents in Lion, you will need to -
    • update the apps to a current version, ones which do work in Lion
    • migrate the docs to other compatible apps which do run in Lion, such as Pages.

  • Moving Animated Images from Powerpoint to keynote

    Hi
I'm just getting into using Keynote as i have just starting lecturing
All the lecture files i have been given are Powerpoint Presentations
I have converted all of them to Keynote but i am having a bit of a problem with one
It has an image which when you play back the slideshow in powerpoint it is animated
The image is not a photo image I think it is a Flash image but i'm not sure as i cannot track down the maker of the PP file & i cannot find any info about it as the only place i can see it is in the PP presentation & that doesn't give too much away either
I'm probably not giving you enough info about it but its as much as i can come up with myself
The question is as you have probably worked out is how can i take the image from the PP presentation & put it into the Keynote Presentation with the animation working in Keynote
    Thanks for your time

Great Question! The answer is not as great. From my previous work the only way I have gotten good results is to open powerpoint and keynote then copy/paste each slide over and build the transitions I want into the presentation. This has been the only way to get the results I wanted.
    Hope this helps.

  • Open powerpoint in keynote

    Hello!
After I got ios 7 on my Ipad, I couldn´t open powerpoint in keynote? Just me or do also have this problem?
When I click on the powerpoint file on the internet, I didn´t got a question about to open in keynote? Why?
    Please help me!!

A small edit before the presentation usually leads to jawdropping "how-did-you-do-this" effects.
Even if Keynote won't do anything powerpoint does, it does the most of them much better. An average PP should be no Problem converting and presenting.
But i just can repeat what you said: A small timewindow for tweaking is important. But: Even a perfect set up PP can do murky things with another PC if there are missing fonts or other things to consider...

  • How to save as powerpoint in keynote on ipad

Only allows to save to idisk not to icloud - but then says 'incorrect account, member name, or password'. No way to correct - just an ok button. Does not give option to save as powerpoint or keynote file. All I want to do is save a powerpoint version to the icloud - or to the idisk, whatever that is.

That poster seems to be referring to a technique used for adding webpages to ebooks created by using the iBooks Author app.  I think he misread your question and thought he was in the forum for iBooks Author instead of this one.
You can't do anything with widgets on your iPad.

  • Convert PowerPoint to Keynote

I want to play my PowerPoint presentation in Keynote on my iPad using Remote Keynote without losing the animations I created in PowerPoint. So far, when I import my PowerPoint into Keynote I lose all of the animations. And since Keynote works with Builds, I cannot insert images in between bullets on a slide. Would I still lose the animations even if I created the PowerPoint using Microsoft Office for Mac? Is there another iPad application that works with the Remote Keynote on my iPhone?

Yes I know but how do I get the presentation onto the iPad then?
If I use iTunes to copy a ppt onto iPad (via the app page under keynote) the presentation does not appear when I start keynote. I can see that the file has been copied onto the ipad (in itunes) but not on the ipad

  • Conversions from PowerPoint to Keynote... again

Sorry if this is an FAQ, but there is no FAQ file available yet, and I can't find an answer by wading through thousands of posts.
I have a lot of PPT files which are provided by the textbook publisher for a course I am teaching, and I would like to use this material. However, I use Keynote exclusively for my own lectures, and want to convert the PPT files so I can customize them. I am running Keynote 2.0.2 and PowerPoint 11.2.4 on OS X 10.4.7.
When I open these files in Keynote, most of the bulleted text and some of the simple graphics come across OK, but unfortunately, a lot of the more complicated graphics don't. When the original slide has a lot of lines, rectangles, etc., the conversion seems to change all of the graphics into a single uneditable bitmap of some sort. I have experimented with cutting and pasting indivisual graphical objects from PowerPoint to Keynote, and even on simple things like a line segment at a 45 degree angle, the object gets converted to a picture, and worse yet, the line width is changed from the original 2 points to 6 points!
None of these files are complicated or "challenging". There are no transitions, animations, videos, audio, or any of the things that seem to plague a lot of users. I am just talking about text and simple line drawings (schematics, etc.) I suspect that there are tricks or procedures that I am not doing right, but don't know where to look for help other than this forum. Can anyone give me an assist?
    Thanks

Most of this stuff appears to be just simple line art primitives. What begins as a line in the ppt file ends up being a .pict file dropped in to the Keynote file. It isn't consistent either; a lot of objects come across OK (rectangles, horizontal and vertical lines, for instance). Angled lines and more complicated shapes seem to be converted to .pict drop-ins.
I am continuing to explore this; I'll post any significant discoveries.
    Thanks

  • Can't open PDF file created in Microsoft PowerPoint in Keynote!?

When i try to open the PDF file by finding the file in 'Finder' and then opening it with a program, keynote is not highlighted as a program that will work. I then tried to force the file to open by selecting 'all applications' instead of 'available applications'. This time keynote is highlighted, but when i try to open the PDF i get a message saying "file could not be handled because Keynote cannot open files in the “Preview Document” format."
Please could someone help as i need to be able to open and edit these PDF files for my degree!!
    Many thanks!!

    Welcome to the forums!
PDF files are not editable. It sounds like you need the original PowerPoint files, and not the PDF versions that were created from them.

  • Powerpoint to Keynote - presentation not filling screen

    Hey folks,
i have just moved over to iWork and I am copying across some of my powerpoints. While opening them is not problem, I can't get them to fit the screen. They just fill up a small section in the middle. does any one have any ideas how I can make them full screen?
    thanks

I have this same problem - I am trying to change over to keynote but want to keep using 5 years of worship powerpoint files! How do you get the presentation to fill the screen?

  • Transfering presentations from powerpoint to Keynote

    Hi
I have transfered a powerpoint presentation onto Keynote and have two problems.
    1. When i saved the presenation in Keynote the text does not appear on the presentaion as the texts that are on the presenation are not part of Apples fonts. The texts are Unviers LT Std, Baskerville MT Std and Baskerville MT Std semi bold. How can I import the fonts onto the ipad (which are saved on my works W drive)?? Or can I buy them?
    2. When I save the presenation in i-books as a PDF the images of the presenations do not come up!! Does anybody know why?
Please let me know if you have any ideas.
    Thanks
    Rose

These are the fonts that Keynote on the iPad supports:
iPad supports over 40 fonts and font families which can be used with iWork for iPad apps. When importing a presentation that uses a font not available on iPad, iWork attempts to replace an unsupported font with one that is a close match. If a close match is not found, the Helvetica font will be used instead. After the import process, fonts that were replaced are listed for review by the user.
Fonts available on the iPad include:
    American Typewriter
    AppleGothic
    Arial
    Baskerville
    Bodoni 72
    Bradley Hand
    Chalkduster
    Cochin
    Copperplate
    Courier
    Courier New
    Didot
    Futura
    Geeza Pro
    Georgia
    Gill Sans
    Heiti J
    Helvetica
    Hoefler Text
    Marker Felt
    Optima
    Palatino
    Papyrus
    Party LET
    Snell Roundhand
    Thonburi
    Times New Roman
    Trebuchet MS
    Verdana
    Zapf Dingbats
    Zapfino
Sorry to say you can't add fonts to the iPad. The Baskerville font that you are using may not be supported. Even tho it is in the supported list above.
For your second question. Are you making the keynote PDF on the iPad or on a computer? What file format are the images? I just made a two slide keynote with images on the iPad. I converted the keynote to a PDF and emailed to myself. When I open the email, I picked iBooks to open the PDF. All image were there in iBooks.

  • Converting Powerpoint to Keynote-no sound

Anyone have any tips on converting Powerpoint presentations to Keynote ones? When I open an existing PP pres in Keynote, the sound does not appear to come with it. Any thoughts as to how to solve? Thanks all!

    Loandogs,
This might not be a universal solution but it worked for my files.

There, the July 21 07 follow-up of Steve Rindsberg was right.
In short: Use Audacity to open your pps or ppt file, export to WAV, insert the WAV in your Keynote file.

  • How far is the compatibility with PowerPoint and Keynote '09?

    Hello everyone
I love making presentations and strangely while I'm an Apple fan the only thing I still didn't convert to is iWork
Keynote is the best presentation tool I ever saw. The problem is with playing the presentations in college or anywhere else.
I know that keynote is compatible with PowerPoint, but how far?
Will the beautiful transitions and animations on keynote work on PowerPoint? Alongside with the beautiful graphics, charts and backgrounds?
    Thanks

I would say the compatibility is "just good enough". If you NEED to use it you will, but you don't want to ever NEED it.
You shoud think of the compatibility as being like trying to playback high resolution, color, widescreen, Dolby stereo content on a small black and white mono tv. There are some things that old telly just won't be capable of. Sure, you can see the motion and hear something, but you're ultimately limited by what you use to PLAYBACK the content, not what you used to CREATE it.
Because Keynote has features that PowerPoint doesn't, PowerPoint will never be able to playback exactly what you see in Keynote. The reverse is true as well.

  • Trouble converting powerpoint to Keynote

Using Keynote 08 and I want to open my powerpoint presentations in keynote. I have tried the open existing files. I have also tried the dragging the file over. Keynote begins the opening process but then stalls and becomes non-responsive. I am using powerpoint 2011.  I have also tried converting the presentation to an earlier version of powerpoint.

  • PowerPoint to Keynote Conversion

Keynote seems to convert PowerPoint slides with the .ppt and .pptx suffixes, but not the macro-enabled .pptm suffix. Is there a work around?

I was trying to open in Keynote on my iPad an attachment to an e-mail message. The file is viewable as an attachment to the message but Keynote won't open it. I can't think of a way to change the file extension on my iPad. Any ideas? Thanks.
