Cox cable and smtp

Hi! I am trying to get smtp to work with cox cable. I am using the smpt.east.cox.net server. Apparently, Cox will not support any Mac OS-X email clients.
I have tried using ports 25 & 587 with and without the various authentication. Also, turned on and off the firewall.
I have also tried using entourage to see if this is Mail specific, but no luck.
I can browse and receive mail, but cannot send mail. In reviewing the archives, it seems that this has been a problem in the past, but no resolution was posted.
Anybody got this to work?
Mac mini duo intel Mac OS X (10.4.10) 1.0 GB ram
iMac G5 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1.5GB ram

I am using the smpt.east.cox.net server
Is this a typo with your post only since it should be smtp and not smpt?
Did Cox technical support at least confirm the SMTP server you are using is correct - smtp.east.cox.net?
The required account settings - the incoming mail server and outgoing mail server and if the SMTP server requires authentication and the server port for the SMTP server, etc. is platform (OS X or Winblows) and email client independent.
Keep the built-in firewall included with OS X enabled which has no effect on this.
Since you cannot send messages with Entourage or Mail using the identical SMTP server settings, this seems to indicate you are not using the correct SMTP server settings and a simple typo can be the cause.
Any error message provided and if so what?

  • Issues with Cox Cable and mail server?

I need an accurate port to send mail. I have never been able to use my mac mail (send or receive) and my cox mail (worked for both at one point) on entourage (cox) my outgoing mail does not work, however, it will receive mail? I am using the latest version of Leopard and I disabled my firewall? Cox wouldn't help me they said to just contact apple? I have the correct pop server (pop.east.cox.net) and SMTP server (smtp.east.cox.net). This is really bothering me so if someone could help I would appreciate it. I currently have my mail set on port 110 for both outgoing and incoming.

And you changed the SMTP port from the default of 25 because...?

  • HT4863 i have Cox cable and all of a sudden my Icloud account won't send messages, only receive.  Doesn't recognize my smtp address. Any suggestions on setting up the smtp address?

I have an Imacand Cox Cable. For some reason, recently, I cannot send email from my Icloud account, on;y receive. It says it is not connecting with my smtp.me.com account, but I haven't changed that from when it was working a few days ago. Any suggestions?

You should check that your settings (both directions) match this:
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    Port: 993
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    Port: 587
    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    Password: Your iCloud password
Note: If you receive errors using SSL, try using TLS instead.
Your signature says you have 10.6.8 - is this correct? If you migrated from MobileMe using this your mail settings won't be correct and you will need to follow this procedure to re-enter them:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard

  • Cox cable and Apple TV apps

How come I can't choose Cox cable when trying to activate Lifetime and History on my Apple TV?  They list so many providers, but do not list Cox.  When are they going to add Cox as a choice?  What is the delay in adding Cox?  In the past I could activate with a choice of Cox for other channels.  Is Apple aware that Cox is missing from the list of providers? It's like I pay for these channels but I cannot access them on Apple TV, annoyed.

This has nothing to do with Apple or the Apple TV. You would get the same list of providers if you were trying to do this with a Roku box for example.
It is up to the content providers (History channel, ESPN, NBC, etc) to make arrangements with the cable companies to allow this to happen. For whatever reason some companies just don;t play nice together.
The best you can do is let Cox and the content providers know you would like them to sort this out.

  • My Cox Cable/Telephone splits to a telephone modem and a broadband modem.  The BB connects via ethernet to a Cisco Linksys E2500 wi-fi (whatever).  Can I plug my usb printer into the E2500, configure, and then print from my iPad?

I have just purchased an iPad 2.  I have wi-fi for roku and have connected the iPad to it.  I want to print to my usb printer.  My connection is:  Cox Cable spit to telephone and broadband.  The broad band feed goes to a Cox modem and feeds the wi-fi.  The Cisco Linksys E2500, wi-fi's the Roku and iPad.  Can I USB from the wi-fi to the printer, configure (however), and then print from my iPad?
    If not, how?
    All comments will be appreciated.

the ipad cannot airprint to a non airprint printer.... i think that the only solution is to install helper software on a computer that has an attached printer and share it through the computer only...computer would have to be always left on

  • Setting mail with Cox (or other services with different servers for pop and smtp)

My Cox mail account uses different servers for pop and smtp (my personal ISP 1&1 does too).
The mail applet on my Blackberry Curve 8330 with Verizon does not allow to define different servers for pop and smtp, and further, for SSL smtp mail, the port is fixed at 995 and cannot be changed, while Cox (and 1&1) want to use 587 or something like that.
As a result, I can only receive mail with these services.
I also have yahoo mail, which works fine, so I can send mail with it and it is not a life-and-death situation, but I would like to be able to just reply to email sent to my Cox address.
I called Verizon and they said BlackBerry provides the mail access through their servers and the applet, so there is nothing they can do.
Is there a way to set it such that I can not only receive but also send mail through either of these services?
    Thanks in advance,
    Didier
PS: Other than that, the Curve on Verizon rocks!!! so much better down here than AT&T it's not even funny.

OK, thank you for the input.
The problem I have with this solution is like the one I have now using yahoo.
    There are 2 problems:
    1) mailing lists want the mail to come from the account that is subscribed, so if the cox account is subscribed, I can't contribute from the blackberry, and if the blackberry account is subscribed, I don't get my mail in Outlook. Neither is good for me.
    2) people who send me mail to the Cox account and get replies from me from the blackberry continue responding to the account that can send from the blackberry (not Cox), and from that point on I do not have that mail on the computer.
The issue of having two copies is no big deal, I just delete the mail I do not need. I would rather have two than none.
Really, Blackberry should modify the email service so that they directly support mail systems like those of Cox and 1&1. I am sure there are others. They should also allow the use of another port for SSL than 995. I have not seen anyone using 995 for SSL.
Until recently, I had a BB provided by my employer, and we had a BES, and that worked really well. I would like to emulate as much of that functionality as possible without having to pay somebody another $10 or $20 a month just for the priviledge of having an account on a private BES server.
Anyway, thanks for the exchange and suggestions.

  • Cox adds authenticated smtp, email working seemlessly between wifi and 3g

I had a problem, but it just went away. Background: I have Cox high speed internet at home (in Tucson), and Cox would not let any email go out to any smtp server (authenticated or not, ssl, didn't matter) other than their own. Which meant when my iphone was on wifi at home I HAD to use smtp.west.cox.net, but as soon as I left my email wouldn't send because I was no longer on cox over the air. So I could either optimize for home or road - either set my smtp server priority for cox, or set it for authenticated gmail, or cwmx.com, or whatever. It was sort of messy at best with a list of smtp servers and trying to get the right one into the priority slot (is that game?). BUT, my life has recently changed, although it's a sad thing when an adult prances around saying "cox has authenticated smtp now, yay!" But they do, and it works from anywhere. So what I have now on my iphone is my 3 email accounts, and just a single solitary smtp server - cox. Obviously you need to be a cox subscriber, and you need to know your cox user name, but the steps are here:
    http://support.cox.com/knowledgecenter/cox_hsikb_defcontent_view.asp?sprt_cid=1689d919-54ca-496a-b081-cc3617a7d7 f3&sprtver=5
I hope this helps someone who is dealing with smt pcraziness and cox.

Thanks for this! I had figured out the problem on my wife's iPhone due to the outbound smtp servers not being on the cox network when on the ATT EDGE, and wanted to let Apple fix it for us by having another option on the mail account settings: If I'm on WiFi - try smtp.cox.net for outbound email, if I'm on EDGE, use ATT's outbound email.
Glad to see the Authenticated SMTP for Cox and will try that later tonight.
I don't think I'll do the prancing , but my wife will be grateful for this!

  • POP Mail iPad Set Up Problems (Cox Cable)

    Hello!
Tried to set up two of my Cox.net email accounts on the iPad and after several minutes of the spinning cog, it was unable to connect to the server in each case. I used the proper username, email address and POP server (pop.central.cox.net) and used the same SMTP server as my iPhone (cwmx.com). Unable to get email set up.
Anyone else have this or similar problems?
Anyone have any solution or suggestions?
    Thanks much!

Well first of all what type of iPad do you have? A wifi only or w/3G?
2nd of all the ATT SMTP Server which is CWMX.com only works on the ATT network. It does not work on WIFI.
That means you must use your coinciding email server names. Likely its going to be smtp.central.cox.net. This server may or may not work on 3G, and if it doesnt it will use the the ATT SMTP Server to send assuming you have 3G data available for use and is not connected to WIFI.
Setting on mail or using mail settings from an iPhone may be similiar but it does not guarantee to work. Remember these are settings and you will have to play around with it to make it work. Alot people blame the hardware for the issue when its apparent of user error or knowledge.
With the info provided above you should be able to configure your email. If not call the Apple iPad technical support line 1-800-my-apple.

  • Best Router for Cox Cable Internet?

Family is trying to download a movie (4GB) from iTunes and it says it will take four hours, when it shuld take no longer than 10 minutes.
Something is very, very wrong with our Cox/Cisco/Cable/Wireless system.
We currently have a Cisco router that was given to us when we subscribed to Cox Cable's internet service. This service recently has become very, very undependable as our home of six laptops, one iPad and six iPhones are now having HUGE issues with Cox Cable service..
    My question...
Does anyome think that using a new Airport Extreme would be a good replacement for the Cox/Cisco router we currently are using.
Any help and suggestions would be appreciate.

    Hi Tesserax,
Your answers in this thread are EXACTLY what I want to do at home - mix in my 2TB Time Capsule with a router and a cable modem.  I just looked up the modem you said - Motorla SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 - and it is discontinued.   I found the same modem easily available with the model number changed to SB6121 (the rest the same).  Seems logical this is the next gen of yours?   Do you know for sure that this model can do everything you said in your posts above?  I would love to have your confirmation on that before proceeding.  From what I can tell on the product page it seems that way, but I'm new to networking language on this level.  And you're not.      Is my assumption correct that this model replaces the 6210.
Is there also a newer version of the router you mentioned, the Cisco RVS4000 router?
We will need to be able to use both Windows XP laptops using VPN to connect to my wife's work and I use MacBook Pro in my home office, where I also have a Time Capsule.  However, right now my cable modem is the Arris TM602G/115 cable modem that cox gave me several years ago and it does not play nice with my Time Capsule, which I can use only ethernet-connected directly to my MacBook for back-ups.  I'd like to set it up so I can have wireless back-ups of my MacBook Pro (and any future Mac(s) to my Time Capsule and I get for my home office and ideally have it connected to the same wireless network somehow.  Sounds like that's what you have. will work for me.  I am definitely willing to spend the money to make it work.  I also have several printers, only one of which is wireless but my favorite printer - HPDeskJet1220C which is wide-format and very reliable and flexible even though it is old ... hey that's all kind a like me, too.  Even the wide-format.  .    So I would like all my printers to work with my network, too.  This older HP and two of my other four printers are USB or Ethernet only, and two of them are USB only.  Is there any device that is wireless like a specialized print router that can work with the wireless network connected to the router and modem mentioned above (or newer versions thereof) bnut which also can sort of translate to USB and send the print signal on to even the USB-only printer, i.e. I can hit print wirelessly from my MacBook anywhere in the house or my wife's WinXP laptop anywhere in the house and select any of the older printers?  That would be really cool, because I like all the printers I have and would prefer not to get another one.  But again, I will spend the money on a couple more wireless printers if need be.  I don't know if I will need a separate 'print router' or not or if I can just add several wireless printers to the network.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

I want to buy a new apple tv but it used hdmi cables and my house is only wired for analog.  Is there any way I can use the apple tv on analog cables?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    It's do-able, but I don't think it's a great idea.
    DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
    Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)
    DAC
DAC (Example Only - Not a recommendation or suggestion that this is suitable in your circumstances)

  • How to connect a MBP to a BENQ external monitor using a HDMI cable and a HDMI to mini display adapter?

Hi, I have just bought a brand new HDMI cable and HDMI to minidisplay adapter  and tried to connect my Macbook Pro up. The external display knows it is there but it is not getting any signal. I have tried on another TV and it also says no signal and I also tried using another Mac but it still didn't work.
    Can anyone help?

In some versions of Mac OS X, with the Displays pane open, holding the Option key will show the detect displays button in the lower right.
I am using OS X Mavericks. Where did the Detect Displays button go?
You can find the Detect Displays button in the Displays section of System Preferences. Once there, press and hold the Option key to see the Detect Displays button in the lower-right corner. You can click this button to manually detect another display.
Another technique is to sleep and wake your computer, which will send the detect display sequence as well.

I have a Samsung HD TV and I purchased a Mini Display port to HDMI Adapter today. For some strange reason I get no display on my HD tv. I even tried switching a few HDMI cables and nothing popped up. I made sure my computer performed all software updates, and I even tried calling Apple Support. They just told me to keep trying different hdmi cables and see if anything pops up. Does anybody know what the problem is? My HDMI cable is from "rocketfish" also my display port is too.

You may have the screen refresh rate set higher than the TV is generally able to track reliably. It may be able to get there most times, but occasionally loses sync because it is out of its nominal range.
I suggest you sit down with the manual for the TV and find out what resolutions at what refresh rates it intends to support through VGA, and make sure your screen settings are near (or below) those limits.
