CP 4 swf to avi... which codec is best

I have been testing the swf to avi feature of CP 4. I'm
curious if anyone out there has any experience with the codecs that
are good and those not so good in the production of these avi's
with CP 4. Any help or suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

So far I've not managed to come up with a happy medium for
this. I tested
several CODECs last week and found the process slow and
unreliable with the
file I was working on. In part, the answer depends upon which
CODECs you
have installed.
I think I ended up using Intel IYUV for my final publish
test, and it was
'ok'.
One of the Adobe engineer suggested Cinepac Codec by Radius.
This, in
computer terms, is a prehistoric CODEC. It is not very
advanced (it's not
mpg4, DivX or whatever) but that's probably a good thing.
The best answer really is just for you to experiment,
unfortunately, until
some patient soul turns up with more detailed advice :-)

  • .pdtv.xvid-lol.avi: which codec?

I have a file with the extension ".pdtv.xvid-lol.avi" that I can't get QT (or WMP) to play.
Get info. says it's an .avi file. I also downloaded and installed an .xvid codec, but nothing seems to be working.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Glenn

Hi, its an avi file (apparently.) If you can open it in a player then you can determine what video and/or audio codecs you might need to play the content.

  • Captivate 4 stops during SWF to AVI conversion

We are running Captivate 4 on a brand new Windows XP quad-processor with 8G of memory. We purchased Captivate to record demos of our web-based software. It did not do well in the regular NON-full motion video mode -- crashing and not capturing onscreen changes very well -- so we switched to FMV mode.
Right now we have a 10-minute full motion video with voiceover, 800x600. We can successfully export it to SWF but we need it in a streaming format for web delivery. Every time we have tried to export it as an AVI, it gets about 1-2 minutes in and quits: "Adobe Captivate has stopped working." We've tried different codecs, including Xvid, MJPEG, MicrosoftVideo1, etc. all with the same result. The memory usage creeps up to about 1.2G and we have 8G, so it doesn't seem to be that.
I downloaded a trial version of LumixSoft SWF to AVI and it appears to handle this conversion with no problem. So far, a $50 product can do what an $800 product claims to do but has failed to deliver! I saw a similar question to mine posted in November but it did not appear to have a sufficient answer.... if Captivate cannot adequately produce a AVI file from a full-motion capture, they should make that clear to potential buyers.
    Does anyone have a solution?

    Hi there
I see multiple issues here. You are stating you have 8 gigs of RAM. This would seem to indicate you are running a 64 bit version of XP, no?
Just today I was working with a class participant that has that amount of RAM and she discovered that Captivate was very erratic on 64 bits. So she said she created a 32 bit virtual machine and ran Captivate that way with no issues. Perhaps you can try that and see if the problems improve?
Sure, you can create a Full Motion recording using Captivate, but really, Captivate just isn't up to the task if what you want is a Full Motion recording start to finish.
We may as well face it, how often does any company really go out of their way to highlight the weak points of their product?
At least they do give you 30 days in which to try it to see if it is up to the task of what you wish to do with it. Did you download and evaluate the trial?
Unfortunately I've seen other reports of the AVI output failing. I'm not sure I've ever seen a conclusive "this fixes it" response offered.
Assuming that running in a 32 bit virtual environment doesn't seem to help (it may) you might wish to try turning off compression. You do this via Edit > Preferences > Project > SWF Size and Quality.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Swf to avi with alpha chanel

    Hi,
It is possible to convert an swf animation (flash 8 with
filters) in ".avi" with alpha channel?
    (The background must be transparent)
I'm using a software named SWF2VIDEO, with this tool I'm able
to convert my ".swf" in ".avi". Some codecs give me alpha options,
but when the .avi is imported in After effect, there is no alpha
channel or he is not detected.
Someone have any idea on this?
    Thanks.

  • Smooth conversion of SWF to AVI with Alpha Channel

today i tried a program which claims the unique program in
    the world can convert
    SWF to AVI with alpha
channel, i find that this is the best program which can
synchronization audio and video, and there won't be watermark in
the middle of your video, i can also use it to capture pictures
when i play the swf file, it is a good function that i can put the
    picture in my phone

    Hi there Schumi-z!
Well, it seems many poeple have the very same problem. Let me explain what I have got and what I look for.
I am working on a simple video editor. This program is to take a video as input, read the video and "chop" it automatically. Taken certain frames to different new videos, from one to 10 or more, according to certain parameters of the frame analized.
What I have got until today is a way of opening the video, reading it frame by frame, extracting a frame, analize it. But I'm yet to develop a way to write new videos taking a group of this previously separated frames.
I would like to know, if you are trying to solve the same or similar problem which in any time it envolves writing a new video file, so we can work together and solve this problem as soon as possible.
This work is also a part of my research to complete my thesis work. It would be an honor to have a quote mentioning someone from around the world.
Well, I hope to hear from you soon.
    Have a nice day

  • Which codec?

    Hi,
I have an .avi file that has no audio in QT 7.1.5.
No audio in DivX Player, DOES have audio in VLC.
    These are the audio specs:
    DivX 6.0, 564 x 308,
Unknown ATSC A/52 and AC-3 Decoder, Stereo, 44.100 kHz
I have these codecs in /Library/QuickTime:
    Sep 20 08:39 AC3MovieImport.component
    Dec 9 2005 AppleIntermediateCodec.component
    Mar 9 2006 DivX 6 Decoder.component
    Sep 21 11:41 DivX Decoder.component
    Sep 21 11:41 DivX Encoder.component
    Which codec do I need?
    TIA,
    Charles
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

if you notice, I have both the A52 and DivX codecs in /Library/QuickTime.
You made no indication as to where that A52 codec came from. The one I pointed to is a current project, so if that's not the one you have, you might give it a try.
If that is what you have, or the one I suggested won't work, then you're probably out of luck. You'll have to go back to the person who created the file and ask him/her to create a copy that doesn't use AC3.

  • Find which codec is used?

How can I tell which codec is being used for sound in an avi file.  I have problems playing some avi's in VLC.  The sound is crackly.  Other files are fine so I figure there is some encoding difference I wanted to track down before I reported a bug.  Totem plays the files fine.

    btw...
theres a command in linux that can be used to get info from any file, its called file
    file /media/Files/Download/movie.avi
    /media/Files/Download/movie.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 640 x 272, 25.00 fps, video: XviD, audio: MPEG-1 Layer 3 (stereo, 48000 Hz)
as for your other problem, could it be a problem in the video instead of vlc?

  • Which codec or plugin?

Eaglepeak, by no means am I an expert but I have navigated through this forum and found so many frustrated people doing "The Codec Dance" for avi file codec. I grew weary of this "dance" put the search on and found a little application that will convert your avi to DivX, worked for me and others. Give it a try, free download at http://www.feringa.net/downloads/avi2DivX.jar

  • How to tell which codec

I have an .avi movie that Premiere imports only as audio and not video. This video plays also bad on Windows Media Player or Winamp (same problem, only audio), but plays well on e.g. All Player. So it is probably a problem with codec, which only All Player read..
So I have a question: how to recognize which codec is used? I thought avi is just avi, but found out on these forum that more people had this problem and the solution is always: bad codec. Is there a method/program that would allow me to check which codec was used for this particular video ? Unfortunately All Player does not show information about codec, only size and fps of the movie. So what I think about is a program that would open the clip and recognize which codec was used and display this information. Is there such a program? All I want to know (for now) is the name of the codec. Knowing the codec, it will perhaps be possible to re-code in some other program to a format suitable for Premiere..

Does it open with Quicktime? If so, in the Quicktime window, under the window menu or control + j, choose "show movie properties".
I've had this same problem (audio, no video) with files brought to my PC from a Mac that are encoded using the Apple Intermediate Codec.

  • How can I determine which codec to use?

I'm using PE7 on a PC. I have HD video shot with a Canon. Each video - there are six of them - is less than five minutes. After I finished editing, I uploaded them to youtube and emailed a link to my client, but my client complained that they were out of focus. I explained that it was the compression that youtube uses, and that I'd render them to disk for him to look at.
Trouble is, I can't figure out which codec to use. All I know is that I want clear, sharp video, suitable for posting on the net. These are scientific videos, showing some chemical processes involving gasoline with ethanol and water.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    TIA

I guess I need to explain better. The HD videos I'm editing will not end up on youtube, but will be posted on a government agency's website. I originally posted them on youtube just so the client could take a look without me having to attempt to email large video files or burn to disk, since the client is in a different location from me.
The area of video editing and production that I'm the least knowledgeable - and therefore the most insecure - is when I attempt to render and save a video. Every video project I go through the same frustration of having a project that I'm happy with, but having a final product that either 1) does not look at all sharp or 2) results in a file size which is too large. In this case, since the final video files will be posted online, they need to be small enough for viewing over the net while maintaining enough sharpeness and quality that the video does not look out of focus.
If you take a look at this video, for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_X0IKPJrng you can see why my client thought it was out of focus. However, I know that the original footage is very sharp. This link is only temporary, as I've already been told that the agency I work for will not allow them to be posted on youtube.
So, my question is, when I'm rendering and saving a video project from PE7, how do I know what settings to use for the highest quality, yet smallest file size? The manual does not go into much detail about the pros and cons of various codecs, nor does it say much about what settings do what. It's like Adobe expects me to already know this information.
Is the problem with the video above simply that youtube compresses the videos I upload? Is Vimeo a better site to upload videos and maintain sharpness? In PE7, is there a way to set it up to upload to Vimeo, or should I render and save as an MP2 or MP4 file and then manually upload?
Surely there's a site which goes into much greater details about the various settings I can use in PE, and how those settings affect the final viewing product.
Thanks a lot for your help. I realize my questions show an extreme lack of experience, but that's why I'm here, right?

  • Bluetooth: A2DP. Which codec is used in iOS4.3

    Hi,
does anybody know, which codec is supported for BT A2DP streaming?
    SBC (default)
    AAC?
    MP3?
    apt-X?
    Br
    Timo

Then again, this is from the JBL press release :
The JBL OnBeat Xtreme iPad dock supports advanced A2DP and AVRCP Bluetooth profiles for interference-free operation, and uses the higher-quality AAC codec – supported by Apple’s iOS devices, gaming consoles from Sony and Nintendo as well as Android smartphones – for superior audio streaming.

  • Send to Premiere Pro - Which codec?

I tested ingesting some sample footage, copying the original footage to a folder, then also two transcodes, ProRes 422 and Prores Proxy each to their own folders.
I then sent the project to Premiere Pro.
Is there some rule about which codec Premiere Pro will link to?  Is it the order that the transcodes are queued, or the original media or what?
The Premiere Pro project I ended up with had mixed codec types.  Some were native, some were ProRes 422 andsome were Proxy, which is not quite what I'd hoped.
If I know what the rules are I guess I can follow them, but I can't find where these are written down.
    Thanks.

I did the test again with multiples cards and different transcode order (copy / mxf / prores, mxf / copy / prores, prores / mxf / copy) and I did end up each time with my first choice into the prelude project.
I'm using Prelude 1.0.2 and Adobe Media Encoder 6.0.2 on Mac OS 10.8.1
I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I allways launch AME before starting ingest (not letting prelude launch it by itself).

  • Which codec do you use?

So I figured I asked the community and get a feel of which codec(for Quicktime) you use when rendering from Shake and why?
I'm trying to find a nice balance between quality and size for importing Quicktime movie into iMovie. It seems I can't get the right quality in iMovie but maybe it's because iMovie is messing with my original movie.
    Thx.

Sorry I wasn't as specific. I am using sequence TIFF images which are 720x480 or less depending as input and want to ultimately build something with iDVD. I have been using the 8-bit uncompressed codec to keep as much quality as possible but I was just curious what other people use when doing their work with Shake.
As for using iMovie, I could do everything in Shake including the audio sequences but it's so much easier to line up audio clips in iMovie. I may resort to this as iMovie keeps murdering my resolution. I just didn't feel like dropping $170 on FCE or even more on FCS which is why I was using iMovie to build my movie. Based on a lot of investigation earlier this year, I could do all the work I wanted in Shake without needing FCE and just output to iMovie 09. I'm just a hobbyist.
    Thx.

  • Too many choices, Which codec do I choose?

I am not new to FCP or DVD SP but I am new to the HD world. I have edited my first HD movie using FCP HD (1080i60 format) and the movie is 1 hour and 25 minutes long. It is an instructional video. I used Quicktime compression and selected H.264 because I thought it would result in high quality and a small file size. Two and a half days later the compression completed and the file is 13.4 GB. All I really want to do is to get the best quality video into DVD SP4 so that I can take the best advantage of my HD video and keep the movie to only one DVD if possible. I have to admit that I am lost when trying to figure out which codec to select. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

First of all, transcoding from HDV to h.264 results in compression.
Not only that, but h.264 is a codec that cannot be used to create a SD DVD in DVD SP. It requires Mpeg2/m2v files.
Simply export your HDV movie to your scratch disc with current settings, no recompression, video and audio self contained.
Drop that into Compressor and elect the 90 minute best 16:9 setting, and the Dolby 2 audio setting.
Take the m2v and ac3 files, and import them into DVD SP as assets.
Make certain that the track is set to 16:9.
Might want consider Sitter's book on DVD SP.

  • Which codec should I use to edit HD footage in Premiere Pro?

I am shooting with a Sony NXCAM which gives me AVCHD .MTS files. I am an old FCP user switching to Premiere Pro. I used to transcode the footage to Apple Pro Res 422 and most of my stock footage is now in this codec. I know Premiere Pro accepts all codecs but I need to offline my footage using the Project Manager. Can you tell me which is the best codec in Premiere pro to edit and transcode footage to now? The only one I can see that kind of matches is AVC INTRA - I 100.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Adam

Edit in the codec you shot in ( source file) is good practice
Drag a clip onto the NEW ITEM ICON (bottom of Project Window) and  PPRO will match up a sequence.
    Good starting point.
