CP 6 Transparency in Images

Please direct me to resources that describe how to insert images, set the transparent color for the image, and resize the image without losing quality. I have the full suite of tools in eLS 6 and I also have GIMP to edit images.
I have a service mark. It is in three formats: .ai and .jpg and .tif (the .tif is a 34 MB file).
Dimensions: the .jpg and the .tif are 3000x3000 and the .ai is 432 x 432. I am awaiting approval for the purchase of Adobe Illustrator but want to know if there is another way (resizing vector images is why I would need to buy Illustrator but I don't have other needs for it at this time).
I want to put the servicemark on a slide which is 800 x 600. I want the white background of the servicemark to be transparent. I have tried GIF & PNG and I have resized the original images (except .ai, of course, not having Illustrator yet) in Photoshop, in GIMP, and in Captivate (after importing). I have set the slide quality to HIGH 24-bit and imported the GIF (as suggested by Lilybiri in another post). I have set the transparency in Photoshop and in GIMP and then saved it as a PNG and as a GIF. At present, I feel I have tried all the ways I can think of to get quality and transparency. Obviously I haven't learned enough about all the tools and processes to successfully import the image and make it crisp but small enough to fit into the slide as needed.
The goal is to have the servicemark (just the type and the logo not the white space above, below, or to the side) to be approximately 90 pixels to fit in a banner at the top of the slide. However, I am struggling (obviously) with the overall process of resizing vector images to use in Captivate. By the way, why doesn't Captivate import .ai or .tif?
Thank you for your help.

One of the easiest ways to accomplish what you want is to open both images in Photoshop and make a new image the same size in CMYK. Paste each greyscale image into a different CMYK channel. You won’t see exactly how the file will print, but it will separate and the printer can substitute any ink on the press. You will have to either use the same two process colours for all other graphics and elements in InDesign or use the Ink Manager to alias the spot inks to the appropriate process inks on output/PDF. Test by printing separations to PDF or using Output Preview in Acrobat Pro.
A more complex, but more elegant way to do this is to convert one image into a multichannel file. Paste the other image into the new empty channel and set each channel to the appropriate spot colour. You will have to save as Photoshop PDF or .psd for the separations to work in InDesign. (Yes, I know there is another format, but I deliberately omitted it in the hope of encouraging its burial.)
From what you have described I think setting one or both of the greyscale images to overprint or using Multiply transparency mode will work as well.
If neither of these gets you what you want, I suggest attaching a screen shot showing us what you are working with and annotated so we know where you need help.

  • Spry Menu problem with using a transparent background image

Hi-  I'm new to CS5 and Dreamweaver. I just finished the beginning webpage tutorial and I have started to work on a personal project. The Problem: when I use a transparent png image as a backgroun-image for my spry menu it shows up fine in live view, but doesn't work in browser view (safari), in fact the menu reverts to it's original grey and blue boredom. Does anyone have a solution for me? Does this mean it will be grey and blue when it goes live? Thanks, Ruth333333

  • How to save transparent background images to have transparent background thumbnails with Photoshop 2014?

In old versions of Photoshop there was a feature that made thumbnail images have a transparent background.  I'm a CC member using Photoshop 2014 on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.4 and every thumbnail of a transparent background image I've created in Photoshop 2014 appears on my desktop with a solid white box background that has a thin black outlined box inside of it.  How do I save the transparent background images I've created in Photoshop 2014 so they will appear on my desktop as thumbnails with a transparent background?   I'd like to continue to be able to replace the default background-less folder icon that that appears on files with transparent background thumbnails to customize my files as I use to do with older versions of Photoshop.

If your layered document has a Photoshop background layer it visibility need to be set off when saving a PNG or Gif file for Photoshop background layers do not support transparency.
Thumbnail may be a bit more complicated than you think. I do not use Lightroom, and only occasionally use the bridge.  I believe Lightroom and Bridge  keep thumbnails they develop for image files  in their library databases and caches.  Other programs do not have acces to  these.  RAW Files and Image files have Jpeg previews stored in then.  I believe most application use these previews jpeg to create thumbnails.  Jpeg format does not support transparency.
Icon on the desktop are not always thumbnails some are embedded icons in application modules other are icon in dll these may well have transparency. However image file on the desktop have generated thumbnails.  However you can create a shortcut for an image png file and create a icon with a transparent background for the png file and change the shortcut's icon for the png file to the transparent ico file you created for it.
Also many Photoshop release ago an Adobe module created Thumbnails for image files in Windows File explorer and most likely system file dialog. Adobe stopped supporting that stating Microsoft changes how windows works.
Today I use FastPictureViewer Codec Package to generate image thumbnails for image files including RAW and PSD files in File Explorer and system file dialogs.
I don't use a Mac don't know what available for your Mac.

  • Printing transparent marker images

    Hello,
I'm using transparent PNG images (baloons) as markers for features of interest on my map application. Everything's just fine until we try to print from the browser. The marker images appear with blocks around the border, defeating the purpose of the transparency, and making things look rather messy.
Has anyone had luck with printing transparent markers ? I am using GIMP to create the transparent PNG files. I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon creating various combinations, including transparent GIF files, indexed and non-indexed PNG's, etc...still no luck. Again, everything is fine when viewing on-screen -- the problems arise only when printing.
    Any insight would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

FYI, this is fixed within MVMapView print() in one of the latest patch releases.

  • Using Transparent Photoshop images placed into Indesign CS5

Placed a transparent photoshop image with clean/beautifully sharp mask inside my Indesign design.
Added a drop shadow with Indesign and gave plenty of space with the outside frame thingy.
However  when I export the PDF my round image mask shows a blunt ugly edge on my perfectly round masked circle.  The photoshop image is perfectly round...  How come Indesign blunts the right edge?
The image is not being clipped by the frame, I have given it plenty of space.   This seems to be a CS5 issue as my coworkers who have similar file setups on their CS4 files get no circle blunting!    We just got the proofs back today and is not just a quirk of the pdf rendering on our screens.
    Thanks!

Ah,  says I'm using acrobat 5 compatibility setting.  My flattener options seem to be greyed out at PMrip ?
Does this look like it should?

does iphoto support transparency in images?

Import the photos and create a small test book -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
If the preview is what you want then you can go ahead and create the book, preview it and order knowing tha the printed version will match the preview

  • Transparency not working on smartshape button filled with transparent (PNG) image.

I'm using Captivate 8 and have had no problems so far importing PNG images with transparent backgrounds.....that is until I try and make a smartshape button and import a transparent PNG image as the background.
It displays fine on screen, but whenever I preview it or publish, the white background of the image/button displays. Is this a known Captivate 8 limitation?
Sorry if this is a repeated question....I've tried trawling through the forums and all I can see is to try different file formats for the images, such as GIF or BMP, which I've tried and nothing works.
    Any advice or suggestions?

If it is a button, what is inserted for Rollover and Down state? I just recreated a shape button, with three different images for the states. All are in one PS-file as layers which I imported into Captivate. I kept Stretched checked in this case, because I know there is sometimes a slight change in size between states. Here are screenshots of Up, Rollover and Down state. The stroke was set to 0 for the shape, but to prevent all color contamination I also set stroke to the color of the background (light grey). In the first (Up) image you can clearly see where the stroke is due to truncation of the Question mark.
Seems only possibility is in the creation of the PNG's? What was your work flow?

  • Removing background shadow on transparent PNG image without losing shading on the object?

I have a pillow bevel applied to a paint splatter brush image, and I'm having trouble with the shadows. I want to save this splatter as a transparent PNG. The problem is that a drop shadow effect is showing up when I save it this way. I think it's a "shading" setting rather than a true drop shadow, as there is no drop shadow set in the layer styles. The shadow does not appear when a white background is applied. It only shows when the background is transparent. I've tried reducing the shading opacity in the bevel dialogue, and this does get rid of the drop shadow....the problem is that it also removes the shading from the paint splatter, making the image look flat instead of raised. Can anyone help?  Thanks!

Good point Curt. First time poster, so I wasn't sure how to include images in my original post. Here they are:
Above is the image saved WITH transparency. Obviously the shadows all around the blue make this unusable.
Here is the exact same image...the only difference is that I saved it with a white background layer behind it in photoshop. As you can see, the shadow artifacts are gone, yet the splatter still maintains its correct shading to keep the raised effect.
Both of these images are saved as png. Any suggestions?

  • Transparent PSD image in Illustrator changes color of vector background after print.

Hello, I really don't know how to explain this so I'll just upload my files which are located here: http://rapidshare.com/files/4040672260/Green%20circle.rar
I have a green vector background in illustrator and then I placed psd image over it and created PDF for press and under Color bitmap images I selected no compression.
After viewing image in Acrobat all seems ok, I even checked with picker, but after I send this to printer (xerox in thsi case) I end up with this: .
Both .psd and .ai are in CMYK color space. For this particular case I could use mask to cover up that transparent space but my original project has shadows which I cannot mask by vector :S.
Can someone plz explain to me what I am doing whrong or how to set color profiles or whatever is neccessary to avoid this issue. One thing I was using was, opening PDF in Photoshop and flatening all. Problem is that sometimes I need vector files and cut lines for cutter. Don't want to have bitmap, if I can have a vector? Also when I flaten image I do get same CMYK values in photoshop (with picker) than I have in Illustrator on vector object, but when I print this they don't match at all.
    Does someone know a solution?
THANKS in advance and sry for my bad english.
    Stefan

Nothing worng with your .ai or .psd file, prints fine here. Problem is with your tranparency flattening.
Most likely you can fix that by print >>  Advanced >> Custom >.> Move slider all the way towards rasters.
If you need more help, let us knwo your printere, and screenshtos of your print settings can help.

  • Black background for transparent PNG images - Xcelsius 2008 SP4

    Hi Experts,
I am using Xcelsius 2008 SP4. I have used Image component to show a PNG image with transparent background. When I export the flash, the image is being shown with a black background.
In Xcelsius 2008 SP3, this problem was not there. I am facing this issue after installing SP4.
Did anyone else face similar issue ? Is there any workaround ?
    regards,
    pasg

    Hi all,
I was facing the very same issue. I succeeded in finding a solution to it. This is happening coz of the dimension and pixels of the .png image. I imported the image in the image component, which had the dimensions, 175 x 70, and was of 9.26 kb and the black background was visible. I then changed the dimension of the image to 428 x 140, and 19.2 kb (double the size), and VOILA!! to my surprise IT WORKED !
Don’t forget to “check” the “embed file” and  “Hide SWF Background Color” check boxes in the image component's, general tab.
Try the same, I hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Sara

  • Save transparent background images to have transparent desk thumbnails with Photoshop 2014

    MacBook Pro 2.7GHz 10.9.5 16gB Photoshop 2014
I need to create new desk images with a transparent background. Whenever I try I get a white background. How can I create a transparent background?
Are there any other Adobe 2014 apps that will save transparent backgrounds?

That is a normal response when saving jpg files. Confirm thet effect with Tif, Psd and Png and if you are coming up with a white background when saving a file with a transparent background it may be time to reset Preferences for a possible remedy.
    To reset Preferences:
If Photoshop is already open on your screen, close it (Quit). Then hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and start Photoshop.
A dialog box will pop up asking if you want to delete the existing Preferences file (the "Settings"). Click Yes in the dialog box. The existing Preferences file will be scrapped and a new one will be created.

  • Illustrator: Transparency/masked image printing issue

I edited an image in photoshop. The image was masked then set to grayscale in Photoshop and then "Placed" into Illustrator where I'm working in CMYK mode.
The background color in Illustrator is set to  0 0 0 100K.  When I print the artwork, the masked area of the image (Which is transparent showing my background color) prints blacker than the backgound color of the whole artwork.  When I went in with the eyedropper to read the CMYK value in masked area, it reads 75 68 67 90 where as it should read the background CMYK value 0 0 0 100K.  This explains why it prints different intensity of blacks.  I then went in to View -> Proof Colors to see what the printer should see, but the image looks perfectly fine there.  So can anyone explain to me what I can do to fix this issue?  Is this a known problem with Placing the image into an illustrator rather than opening it in illustrator, or it's only a printer issue?
    Thanks in Advance.
Image attached in "Proof Color" View

    Preferences -> Appearance of Black.
Set those both to Accurately. I don't know why they default to rich blacks when that's not always what is used. I would think most users would perfer to see ACCURATE colors.
