CP1500 CPCI Motherboard Requires COM connection

I am using a CP1500 - 440MHz motherboard in a CPCI system. For the system to start it always requires a COM cable connection to a PC running a Serial Terminal Emulation program. When the system is booted up, if the COM connection is removed by either removing the cable or exiting the Serial Terminal Emulation program the CP1500 system crashes. The system will not boot up without the COM cable connected with the Serial Terminal Emulation program running. Another system I have does not need the COM cable connection running to start up. It is not the hardware at fault. Does any one know if there is a file within Solaris 2.6 or 8 that states that the COM cable must be connected to a Serial Terminal Emulation program for the system to run?
Thanks
Ryan

Normally no terminal is required for a system to boot unless "auto-boot? false". This would require you to have to type "boot" at the ok prompt. Thus you would be required to have some type of input device to type. At the ok prompt type printenv auto-boot? If it comes back false then you should type setenv auto-boot? true to change it. Then type reset to lock it in to NVRAM. You may also want to investigate the kbd -a enable / disable command while you are unpluging your laptop. Some have found that killing Hyperterm while still plugged in causes a break to be sent and the system goes to the ok prompt. They pull the cable first and they kill it. Your results may vary. The kbd -a command allows you enable or disable the abort (break, Stop +a) to the system while you are connecting or disconnecting cables to the serial port. You may want to experiment with this as well.

  • Widgets that require web connection not working

    Hello,
I have an ongoing issue where widgets that I download that require web connection seem to have trouble doing their job, I recently switched from Safari to Firefox could this have anything to do with it.
More specifically it's an i-tunes album art widget that is not working, is it an itunes upgrade thing?
Thanking you all in advance for any suggestions.

Hi, I doubt it's FF vs. Safari issue myself.
Give this a try & report results please.
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers for the Interface you're using...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then Apply. These are safer/faster than most ISP's DNS numbers, and have been patched against DNS poisoning.
    https://www.opendns.com/homenetwork/start/device/apple-osx-tiger
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
Problems are that many Modems/Routers don't communicate the DNS Servers with macs all that well because they've made mistakes in their Firmware & by golly by gee, they tell MS about the workaround!
Then, many... even major ISPs have DNS problems and may have not even patched them against DNS poisoning!

  • I am connected to my usual wifi and when I try to go onto any apps which require internet connection, it says I have no internet connection yet I am connected to wifi, how do I resolve this?

I am connected to my usual wifi and when I try to go onto any app's which require Internet connection, it says I have no Internet connection yet I am connected to wifi, how do I resolve this?I have had this problem for about a week.
    Any responses are appriciated

You posted in the iPad forum, but you profile lists an iPhone 4S. Does your iPhone or iPad have this problem.
Here's some iPad suggestions. Most also apply to the iPhone. Your iPhone or iPad may show the wifi symbol but that only shows the presence of a wifi signal. Not that you are connected.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • "Network service error" game apps that require internet connection working fine, internet signal strong. Safari working, but YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and App Store won't work?! Tried resetting network settings but problem persists?

Safari working fine, as are game apps that require internet connection.
I can not get AppStore, YouTube app, Facebook app or twitter app to load anything as 'network service error" comes up.
I have the latest update 7.2 and have tried resetting network settings, anyone else have this problem?! How do I fix it?

I did try that one. But for some reason it still does not help. The strange thing stays that I can acces Twitter and other Apps. But still nos Safari/App Store. Only when I am on Wi-Fi.

  • Flashcards require multiple connection attempts before recognized

I have an early 2008 MBP, a SanDisk USB card reader, and a Sandisk Firewire 800 card reader.
When I connect flashcards from any camera, it requires multiple connection attempts before it is recognized by Finder or Disk Manager. I'm using multiple cards, formatted by three cameras. Because Disk Manager doesn't show the card, I have no choice but either disconnect the flash card reader, or insert the card.
Although this occasionally happens with USB, it always happens with Firewire. I can sometimes reinsert the card three times, but unplugging the firewire cable (or USB) at the computer seems to be the most successful.
Once recognized, the cards work flawlessly. I've run disk repair and repair permissions multiple times on my drive and flash drives, but somehow, I don't think that is the issue.
    Any ideas?

My apologies. I'll answer your questions to clarify.
    eww wrote:
Your message is unclear. First, I don't know of anything called Disk Manager. What is it?
Disk Utility, not disk manager. If I connect the card reader and insert a card, and the card's volume does not appear in finder, the card's volume also does not show in Disk Utility.
    eww wrote:
Disconnecting the reader is clear enough, but how is your computer to read your card if you haven't already inserted it? Do you mean "remove the card"?
Have you tried connecting the reader with a card in it and merely waiting for it to be recognized? Particularly if it's a very high-capacity card, reading its contents may take a little while before the card's icon appears on the desktop.
I didn't connect the dots. If the card it not recognized the first time, then I either I disconnect and reconnect the card reader, or remove the card and reinsert the card. This will usually allow the card to be seen.
I have 16GB cards. I do wait on the first connection attempt. I usually insert the card, then connect the card reader. I'll come back minutes later to discover it was not recognized. However, I will be more patient retrying the connection next time. I usually wait 10-15 seconds before trying a second or third reconnection attempt.

    Hi everyone,
Is SBO 2007A XL Reporter compatible with MS-EXCEL 2007? How can I configure the settings if the system would prompt a message "A required COM add-in program for XL Reporter has not been loaded and prohibits MS -Excel from running"
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi,
    SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM:
    Reason and Prerequisites
You need to be an administrator on the local machine to add COM add-ins.
    Solution
The user should be added as a member of the administrator role on the
local computer the first time you start Excel from XL Reporter the first
time so that the COM addin are registered, then you can remove the user
    from the administrator group again.
Manually Loading the XL Reporter Excel COM Add-In
    Symptom
If you install Microsoft Office after installing the XL Reporter
application or use another Windows user than the one you used when
installing XL Reporter, you can get an error message.
    Reason and Prerequisites
The reason for this is that the report writer COM Add-in has not been
loaded, which prohibits Microsoft Excel from running.
    Solution
    1. Start Microsoft Excel. If you already have the COM Add-ins command on
the Tools menu, go to step 7.
    2. In the Tools menu, choose Customize.
    This opens the Customize window.
    3. Choose the Commands tab and select Tools from the Categories pane on
    the left.
    4. In the Command pane on the right, scroll down to the COM Add-ins
    command.
    5. Select the COM Add-ins command, hold down the mouse button, and drag
COM Add-ins from the Commands pane over to the Tools menu on the Microsoft
Excel men bar. When the Tools menu commands appear, point to where you
want the COM Add-ins command to appear on the menu and release the mouse
    button.
    6. To close the Customize window, choose Close.
    7. On the Tools menu, choose the new COM Add-ins option.
This opens the COM Add-ins window.
    8. In the window, choose Add to open the Add Add-in window.
9.Select the IXXLReporter.dll file located in the Client directory in the
XL Reporter program installation area and choose OK.

  • ME SDK 8.0 EA Device Manager - Problems with Serial COM-Connection

I caught a first glimpse at the new ME SDK 8.0 - so far I have been working only with very old JavaME-Stuff on a Cinterion-TC65i-Chip.
Want to connect my Raspberry Pi via serial COM-Connection with the SDK-8.0-EA-Device-Manager. (due to security reasons I'm not allowed to connect the Pi via LAN/Wifi)
But the problem is the ME SDK 8.0 EA Device Manager only offers me COM4 (this is my built-in UMTS-Modem) - even though my target-COM-Device isn't busy at all.
A serial connection via Putty and USB2Serial-Cabel (FTDDI) works fine and I can get on my Raspberry.
Is there any reason or restriction I don't know for being unable to use my dedicated COM-Port? Or do I have to make any additional adjustments in hidden SDK-Property-files?
In my opinion the device manager using COM should offer me the same possibilities as an IP-Connection regarding the target-device (transfering my Jad/jar to the device, installing them and starting them).
There is something in the SDK-get-Started Docu about "Connecting to a UART Device" I'm not really cotton on . Is this information concerning me even though I'm using a Raspberry PI?
To put my files manually via USB-Stick or Z-Modem on the PI is a tad of inconvinient.
Any ideas? Or am I completely off track understanding your SDK-Tooling?
    Thx and best regards

    Hi,
For the Raspberry Pi, tooling over serial port is not supported. The simplest solution is to use standard IP networking over Ethernet. This can be a direct connection between the PC and the Raspberry Pi, as long as the cable is twisted and the IP addressing is correct (e.g. manual IP addressing or DHCP server on the PC).
Regarding "Connecting to a UART Device": This is meant for attaching and controlling serial devices from the Raspberry Pi, not for tooling connections between the Raspberry Pi and the PC.
    Hope this helps,
    -- Terrence
