CP4: Audio on some slides cutting out early

I have some slides where the audio stops a fraction of a second or so too early. That may not sound so bad, but it sends a signal I'm either a bad sound editor or don't know how to speak. How do you suppose I could address this? Add a second or so silent tail to each faulty clip? I recorded these files as .wavs using XP's Sound Recorder and imported them into Captivate, which has always worked dandy for me. What's even more strange is only some slides are affected.

Dan,
I came up with a goofy yet effective fix to this issue. While Cp4, the moody little monster it is, will let you continually add silence to the end of an audio clip for a few minutes at best, I can do the following until the cows come home:
Double-click the audio clip from the timeline, or open it up however you prefer.
Insert your playhead at the end of the clip.
Ensure your microphone is plugged in.
Click the Record button to add some ambient noise. A second or two should do the trick.
Highlight the sound you just recorded, not the entire waveform.
Click Adjust Volume.
Reduce the volume on this portion of the clip to 10% repeatedly until there is no sound at all.
Click OK.
Just as good as Insert Silence, but a bit more labor intensive.
Goofy junk like this makes me glad my shop just ordered some Cp 5.5 licenses.

  • Audio (and some video) dropping out export

I've created an project with short video/audio clips sampled to produce "music". It plays OK in FCPX, but when I export it (H.264, 720p, Apple Devices, 44.1) as an MP4, some of the audio (and some video) drops out. That is, it does not show up in the exported (aka "Shared") movie file.
There are about 7-8 things (tracks) going on at once, maximum.
Any ideas what to do to fix this?
    Thanks!

  • I have a 2nd generation ATV and my audio and video is cutting out.

The problem is intermittent.  Sometimes the picture continues and only the sound skips.  Sometimes both the audio and video cut out and return a second or so later.  This even happens on the menu screens where the video and/or sounds will "hiccup".  This happens when playing internet conent (like from iCloud or iTunes radio) or when playing content resident on my home computer via home sharing.  I've tried the setup at more than one house, on more than one Wifi network and hooked to more than one TV, but the problem still occurs.  Can anyone offer suggestions for a solution?

  • Mac Mini Audio Intermittent over HDMI, Cuts out with Assertion in kernel.log

Hello. I've been having trouble with a mac mini (Mid 2011) that I bought on Thursday. It's running OSX 10.7. The Mac Mini is the $599 unit.
I've got it hooked up to my Sony BRAVIA HDTV (also this year's model) via HDMI, with audio configured to be delivered via HDMI to the TV alongside video. Initially the audio will play through my TV, but after an hour or two of watching something, it will cut out, and there will be no more sound coming out of the TV from the mac. Ultimately, the only way I can fix it is to reboot the Mac Mini. I've also observed that at about the same time sound cuts out, the following error message appears in kernel.log:
Aug 12 19:21:40 joshs-Mac-mini kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 != result" failed in AppleHDAWidget at line 3957 goto handler
    Aug 12 19:22:10 --- last message repeated 5 times
As far as I know, assertions failures usually mean software problems (bugs). I suspect I may be encountering a kernel-level bug in Lion, as this error message is showing in kernel.log.
The following is a list of diagnostic steps I've taken:
    - I've double-checked the sound output device in preferences. It didn't spontaneously change from SONY TV (HDMI) after sound cut out.
    - I've tried changing output to the internal speakers. It plays sound from the mac mini (as expected). When I change it back to HDMI, still no sound from the TV.
    - I've tried turning off and back on the tv. No effect.
    - I've tried unplugging and replugging the HDMI cable. No effect.
    - I've tried replacing the HDMI cable with two other alternates. No effect.
    - I've tried other HDMI inputs for my TV with HDMI attached. No effect.
    - Note: I've got a ps3 and xbox360 on the TV that has successfully used the HDMI inputs and cables tested on. They've never had this type of problem, so I don't think there's a problem with the TV.
    - I've tried rebooting the mac and resetting the "PRAM" (Command-Option-P-R before the grey screen on bootup). Sound still cuts out after a while.
    - All updates are applied.
Does anybody else have any ideas about what I could try to fix this? This problem is pretty much a deal breaker, as rebooting the mac mini mid-movie kind of destroys the movie-watching experience.
    Thanks

I'd just like to jump in on this thread to report exactly the same problem.
2011 Mac Mini (the 2.5GHz i5 model) running Lion, Sony Bravia TV, HDMI sounds cuts out after a while with the console error "Aug 15 18:30:25 Mini kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 != result" failed in AppleHDAWidget at line 3957 goto handler".
Interestingly, after the error occurs, I can still get 5.1 sound through Plex, but not through Quicktime. 2.0 sound and system sounds all fail until I reboot the system.
Any help would be appreciated. I would prefer not to have to return the Mini.
    Thanks.

  • Some tracks cut out half way through playing

    I have a 20GB 4G iPod with a black & white display which I got in December 2004.
Recently, some of the tracks on my iPod have been cutting out during playback and the iPod moves onto the next track in the play list.
I store my music on my Windows XP SP2 computer and I sync my iPod with this computer. All of the tracks playback correctly on the computer, so why aren't they playing correctly on the iPod and how can I fix the problem?
    Many thanks for any help.

I have a similar setup and have had the same problems. I've noticed that since I update iTunes to 5.0.1.4. About 15 songs (out of 3200) will reload onto my iPod each time I connect. When this happens the length of the song (time) changes to some random number, either shorter or longer. If it is longer the iPod basically plays to the end of the song and then skips to the next one (doesn't play the "extra" time), but if it is shorter, the song cuts off in the middle.
This is an annoying bug. Any help would be greatly appreciated!...

  • Audio and Video sound cuts out when adjusting the volume whilst playing powerpoint presentations

I have just bought a new hp laptop and when running power point presentations with embedded media (for my job) I cannot adjust the volume of the sound when the audio or video file is playing. It simply cuts out and stops the video or sound from playing. I thought at first that this might be an Office 2010 issue but now it seems more likely to be a setting on the laptop. If anyone has any answers they would be much appreciated!! Many Thanks

I hear you on this. I just tested out the 3GS video for a concert where band mixed electronica and guitars.. boom boom satellites and I noticed when close to the speaker side of the stage the sound cut in/out. But when I moved farther away sound remained consistant.
What I may suggest is lowering the volume to mid range when closer to your sound source then
correct (if needed) using outside software.. iMovie Final Cut, etc..
Yes, I wasn't to please about losing sound on a what I recorded.. ~A~

  • All audio on iphone 4s cuts out, every 10 seconds on every apps then keeps playing.

I have tried all the apps on my phone, and every 10 seconds or so it will cut out the audio for about 1 second, then come back in while the track is still playing. like its pausing it real quick and starting it again, except that it doesnt start back where the audio cut out, it just keeps going.  Does this on music player, pandora and every single app on my phone that I have tried. Nothing new was installed on the phone, I have tried cleaning out all ports, doing a hard reset, plugging in and unplugging headphones. I have tried closing all apps and reopening them, and turing on and off the phone. switching between silent mode and messing with volume doesnt help. On pandora every time it happens, the volume level bar at the bottom pops up. all other apps there is no visual sign it is happening. it never pauses and audio comes back after a split second. No new music or anything, has worked fine for almost a year now, just started today. Side note, it plays ringtones from calls just fine, but if i listen to them in the sounds section it still cuts out. iphone 4s model a1387

One thing that helped was getting a toothbrush and scrubbing the dock connector on the phone.  I scrubbed the connector and used compressed air for about 1/2 hour till the connector looked much cleaner.  An Apple employee told me that the pins on the phone had a little corrosion and sand.  The problem hasn't gone away completely, but has been significantly reduced.  I'm going to hold out until my contract expires after which time I'll switch to an iPhone5 (or newer) or Android phone.

  • Ipad mini audio is distorted and cuts out.

Since updating to ios 7 the ipad mini sound keeps cutting out and is constantly distorted through the speakers and through headphones.
The side button doesn't mute the sound even though it is set to do that in settings.
I have two other identical spec ipad minis that are both fine and have none of thee problems since upgrading to ios 7
    Any ideas?

I had the same problem, but it was fixed after I closed down all apps and restarted my iPad again.

  • After Effects CS6 .swf Cuts Out Early

    Hello All:
I'm admittedly new to After Effects, so please bear with me on this one. I've been working on an After Effects file to be inserted into Adobe Captivate as an animation layer. When I render the file as a .avi or .mp4, everything renders exactly as it should. However, when I try to export  as a .swf file (which is what I need for the animation layer in Captivate), the file says its rendering 450 frames but then cuts out around 380. Again, when rendering it in the other formats, I have no problems with the render. I just run into a problem when I'm trying to export as a .swf file. I've checked the duration and everything says it should be exporting completely, so I'm completely at a loss on this one.
    Thanks,
    Jason

I'd recomend that you use Adobe Media Encoder to create the FLV file and let Flash turn that into a linked file in a SWF. It will play faster and be smaller overall unless your SWF is entirely vector art.

  • Audio buzz and video cut-out caused by volume shadow service errors during updates and other services that create shadow copies

I have this issue and see throughout the Internet that my problem is shared by large numbers of other Windows 7 users, and a few Windows 8 users.
I also see that Microsoft has not addressed the issue.
I've been troubleshooting the problem for 13 months and across 3 separate hard drives on 2 separate computers, with the help of tech escalation from both Carbonite and Dell (whom I wanted to eliminate as causes, and who have been kind enough to assist even
after being eliminated as causes because they evidently care about customer service).
Over 13 months we have run system diagnostics, reinstalls and repairs to no avail.  We have been able to reproduce the event in the absence of every attached device, every installed program, every subscribed service, and every hardware type and configuration.
We have visited chat rooms showing that this is a widespread problem (e.g., http://superuser.com/questions/630033/audio-video-glitch-when-shadow-copy-service-starts), and that even professional server administrators simply consign themselves to VSS being "the
    bane of backup software" (http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/229743-problem-with-vss-writer-system-writer-timed-out).
Yet regardless of the computer or the configuration, the problem persists.  It causes characteristic and alarming disk write error and memory spikes on the Resource Monitor that can be traced to huge numbers on the System 4 and VSSVC.exe processes, occurring
every time the Volume Shadow Copy Service and Application Experience create a restore point during an automatic update of Adobe, antivirus, etc.; and one can even provoke an event simply by manually creating a restore point, which has the bonus of triggering
an 8220 notice that the Volume Shadow Service has run out of time while deleting files.  And the only advice I've seen from MS is that this is a "normal condition."
It is not normal to be unable to enjoy audio and video.  And it is certainly not normal for one's PC to continually degrade with every update until it becomes unable to update and must be replaced.
I am on my 3rd computer with this problem (different type and configuration each time), and Dell has offered me an upgrade to Windows 8 in the hopes that the problem will not recur there.  But I see from Microsoft's tech chat that Windows 8 users are reporting
    the problem as well (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-pictures/after-upgrading-to-windows-8-pro-there-is-an/813432c2-14f1-463f-bba3-ad322ceb6e00).
Please, please post a real answer to this problem.  Thank you.

    Hi,
Above all I understand the frustration as a same issue persists for a very long time.
At first I'm thinking if it is directly related to the application CrashPlan some customers mentioned in one of the threads you provided. However I then noticed that you said it could be also reproduced by creating a System Restore point.
Currently I cannot find a Windows 7 system so I used a Windows 8.1 laptop (also Dell) for testing.
I tried to play an online video and also a local video with creating a restore point in the middle. However I failed to reproduce the same behavior.
The following screenshot was captured in second test (play a local video):
I cannot confirm if it is because we have a large physical memory (8GB), or Windows 8.1 resolved this issue. From the screenshot, memory is not spiked (actually it is almost not changed).
So in current situation you can test to enlarge the size of physical memory (and virtual memory) for test if available. And as Dell provided a Windows 8 system, you can try it before and after installing Windows 8.1.
As a support engineer I also hope to help fix the issue or at least find out the cause. Later I will try to find a Windows 7 system for testing as well.
In addition, please understand that as the issue occurs mostly in Windows 7, though it seems related to VSS, it is still a Windows client system issue. So you can post the question to Windows 7 forum for further information. Here is the link:

  • Some Songs Cut Out

Some random songs will cut off when playing back from my iTouch...when the same song will play completely OK from the computer's iTunes. I have wiped the iTouch completely and re-sync'ed it, but i still have the same problem. Am I alone in this issue? It is an 8GB iTouch that is running Version 1.1.5
    Thanks!

    - Do the songs play OK in iTunes on the cmputer?
    - Try unsyncing all the music and resyncing
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Video cuts out early in Encore 2.0

I have several videos that fade to black. In Encore's simulation mode these videos play back as they should. The fade is allowed to go all the way to full black before returning to the menu or going to the next video, etc. Once the DVD is burned however, the video freezes in mid fade. This same project with the same video files worked properly in version 1.5. I don't have any extra handles on the videos that I can move the in and out points.
Is there a fix for this problem? My only other option is to re-make the video files with an extra second of black at the head and tail of each video. With over 70 videos I was hoping for a simpler fix.
    Thanks

Here's some more info that may shed some light.
Using Avid Media Composer Adrenaline to make uncompressed 720x486 29.97 fps QuickTimes. Using Sorenson Squeeze to make MPEG2(NTSC DVD Lg). Importing those MPEGs into Encore. Entire project created in Encore 1.5 30-day trial version. Many DVD's burned from 1.5 worked as expected (videos faded completely to black). Upgraded to 2.0 from mailed software (not download version.) All looks normal in simulation mode including the fades. Timelines play fine in monitor. Assets play fine in project mini monitor at top of assets window. Encore 2.0 detects no problems. All navigation works as expected. All assets reside in the same location as they did with Encore 1.5. Burning fails at last moment when burning at 16x. Burning works fine when using 4x. Aside from the freeze that happens about a second before the end of the videos all else works fine. I have burned numerous disks and the problem persists.
Did not realize I would not be able to re-open the project in v1.5 once it has been opened in v2.0 so I'm stuck with 2.0.
Machine surpases all software requirements. Internal DVD burner, internal hard drives.
Hope this info proves helpful. Would appreciate any feedback even if Christo's tip works.
    Thanks.

  • Why are some songs cut off early?

I just transferred my iTunes library from my old macbook (where it was working fine) to my new macbook pro. I notice many songs cut off before finishing, usually all the songs from a same album. I downloaded my past purchases from icloud and still happens. My ipod, which I now synced with my new macbook is (obviously) doing the same. Anyone have any bright ideas to resolve this? I guess Apple is too busy counting all the money from us suckers who have bought their hardware and/or paid for music downloads from iTunes to take care of this.

I am having the same problem.  I moved my files from an old Windows XP machine to a new Windows 7 machine.  I put them in the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder thinking they would all be added to my library and work just fine.  Now I noticed that all songs for the same Artist get cut off at the same point in time.  For one artist, it was 2:25.  Any song shorter than that worked fine.  Any song longer got cut off.  For another artist, it was 2:17.  It seems to be more with songs I downloaded from iTunes.  Songs that came from CDs that I own and imported seem to be fine but I haven't checked every song.  Any help Apple?

  • Please help! Video and Audio Cut Out of Project Made in FCE, Burned in iDVD

I made a 20 minute movie in FCE 4 and burned it onto a DVD using iDVD (I have a MacBook that runs Mac OS X Snow Leopard). For some reason, when I watch the DVD, both the audio and the video cut out approximately five minutes into the movie. The audio and video both cut to black at exactly the same time and never come back. I haven't inserted any chapter markers or anything, so I know that's not the issue. Any idea what the problem might be? Thanks in advance.

Open the exported file in the QuickTime player. Does it play all the way through correctly? If yes, you should try the question on the iDVD forum. If no, report back what you've got in the QT player.
