CP4 Report settings/SCORM2004 message cross-reference chart?

Is there a chart or list of what SCORM 2004 message each reporting setting in Captivate4 will send to an LMS? All I know is that cmi.lesson_status is set to Pass/Fail or Complete/Incomplete depending on the Report Status setting.  What about the rest of the report settings. What LMS message do they send, and how is it affected by changes in settings?
A nice chart would be really useful....
P.S. I have already checked out Shameer's post on LMS reporting enhancements on the Captivate Blog.
Thanks.

Bump......
Any ideas team? Thanks.

  • Apex substitution strings cross reference chart

    Hi everybody,
i finally managed to publish the (full?) list of Apex template substitution strings, in form of cross reference chart.
Errors, omissions and comments are welcome.
See the Apex template substitutions xref chart at:

    Hope it helps

    Hello Scott!
thanks for you comment, i appreciate it.

PS: in case you are going to add or change substitution string support in future releases, it'd help a lot to have them listed in a "What's new in this release" section of the accompanying documentation.

  • Cross-references (MS-Word to WebHelp) not showing up for Tables and Figures

I am converting an MS-Word 2010 document to WebHelp using RH9. Cross-references to numbered sections, appendixes, websites, etc. come out fine. Cross-references to tables and figures do not always appear. In some sections they are there, and in some they are not.
Would anyone be able to offer any insight into how I can get these table and figure cross-references to come out on a regular basis in the WebHelp version? Thank you.

UPDATE TO PREVIOUS MESSAGE: Cross-references to tables and figures NEVER appear in the RH version when coming from MS-Word.
Is there any way to have these cross-references appear? If not, it appears the only solution is to bookmark tables and figures individually and hyperlink to each of them.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • Report Generation Toolkit (Word) : How to use correctly bookmark and cross-reference without "Error! Reference source not found"

    Hi,
I try to generate a report using a template. In my template I use some cross-reference to refer to one bookmark. For exemple in the first page I created a bookmark for my name and in the header I created a cross-reference refer to my name. The problems is when I run my VI the bookmark actualise perfectly but the cross-reference refer to the bookmark can't actualise with the same value and generates an error : "Error! Reference source not found".
    Can somebody help me please!

    Hi,
When i create the word template, the bookmaks and the cross-reference referred to the bookmark update correctely. The problem is when I try to change the bookmark using "report generation from template vi" the bookmark change but not the cross-reference and the error generated is "Error! Reference source not found".
I make coople reasherch and i think they have no solution for this because : "if the text in a heading referred to in a cross-reference is revised, the cross-reference to the heading may no longer work" (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/troubleshoot-cross-references-HP005189368.aspx).
To "resolved" this problem I create an other bookmark in the template who have the same value white the principle bookmark.
I use Labview 2011 and Micosoft office 2010.

  • FrameMaker 11 trial version crashing on save and cross-reference insertion

    Hi everyone,
I've recently started a new position. My prior background was heavily DITA, and I'd describe my FrameMaker experience as late beginner or early intermediate. The new position uses FM exclusively though, so I've been on a steep learning curve lately.
I'm using the trial version of FrameMaker 11, downloaded about two weeks ago, until the PO for my full FM 11 license is processed. I'm working in book and document files that have been upgraded, I believe, from FM 9 to FM 10 and then from FM 10 to FM 11. All of my colleagues are still using FM 10, with a mind to upgrade to FM 11 in the spring as our new budget comes through (I am, so to speak, the FM 11 guinea pig for the group).
My workstation is a brand new HP Elitebook laptop running Windows 7 64-bit (I believe our IT department downgraded it from Windows 8). Windows is fully up-to-date. My trial version of FM 11 is 11.0.1.382 and also up-to-date as of this message.
My issue: FM 11 randomly crashes several times a week, sometimes once a day or so, sometimes when I try any of the following:
Saving all files in a book (using Shift + the File menu command)
Saving individual document files (generally using the Save icon in the tool bar)
Attempting to insert a cross-reference (placing the insertion point within the document, then opening the Cross-Reference tool in the right-hand side bar)
The crash takes the appearance of FM freezing for several seconds, then the dreaded message window opening with the words "FrameMaker has detected a serious error and must quit", with columns of error codes below.
I've googled and binged and not found anything for this issue in FM 11, so I thought I'd post here. I have tried the following, based on somewhat similar discussions I've seen for crashes in earlier versions of FM)
    Mif-washing the files
Working in the Structured FrameMaker interface instead of the Unstructured
Neither of these has worked. FM 11 trial continues to crash. It doesn't happen often; I'd say that I'm able to successfully able to perform the above tasks 20 times or so, with the crash on the 21st. But on a busy day, that's a few crashes a day.
To mitigate damage, I have autosave set to every two minutes and gotten in the habit of only having one or two documents open, instead of all in a book, to minimize the number of recovery files I need to process.
After one of the initial crashes, I did as Adobe asked and forwarded the crash report to them for troubleshooting.
My colleagues are watching all this very closely, and my troubles might influence our decision to upgrade from FM 10 to FM 11. So any insight into this issue would be appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Eric

    Eric,
The multitude of unesolved x-refs may due to the font issues when updating the book. During an update, if the files aren't open, FM tries to open them in the background but if it encounters an error like a missing font, it skips the file and then any x-refs to that file are unresolved. This can cascade to make things look really worse than they are.
What is your default printer when you start FM? It should be the Adobe PDF prnter instance. If not, then you might want to insatll the Sundorne SetPrint utility (http://www.sundorne.com/FrameMaker/Freeware/setPrint.htm) thta will automatically set this for your FM sessions only.
One other place where fonts can hide is in table definitions. The catalog stores the font information (and not just the explicit paratag) of the cells in the header and first row. As Jeff mentions, you need to check the MIF file in detail. An excellent tool for quickly browsing your MIF is Graham Wideman's Mifbrowse (http://www.wideman-one.com/gw/tech/framemaker/mifbrowse.htm).

  • Maintaining internal word cross references in word import

I'm using RoboHelp 9.0.1 trying to import Word 2007 (docx) in order to generate a WebHelp. I have adjusted my style mapping in order generate an appropriate TOC with books and matching sub chapters, which works fine. However, internal Word cross references from the original Word document are not transformed into hyperlinks.
I have already tried/verified the following:
    - The "convert cross references to hyperlink" option is checked in the RH-Word import settings.
    - I also tried fiddling with the Framemaker options as it is suggested in another thread (see beneath), with no success.
    - Within the Word source document I tried both options with "use hyperlinks instead" when creating cross references.
    - The RH-HTML source, in all of my attempts, does not show any links in the corresponding locations.
What may I be missing here? According to another, similar thread, the feature should work and is really not that challenging:
"RH9 - Can not create ANY links in linked Word documents"
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854095?tstart=0

In my testing, I got a link in the RH topic, but it wanted to launch the target Word doc instead of jumping to the desired RH topic. I'd say this sounds like a bug - so go ahead and report it.

  • InDesign Cross References with DTP's Cross References PRO

There are already posts all over the forum about how inter-document cross references in InDesign are "fragile" and slow and can cause crashing, which I recently learned the hard way. We tried to live with the slowness and the breaking links, but the show-stopper was that we couldn't export our largest book without InDesign crashing. (The book contains 150+ individual documents.)
Based on some recommendations, we are now using a trial of DTP's Cross References PRO plug-in for InDesign. I removed all cross references that were created using InDesign's native cross references, and added several new ones using the plug-in. The slowness has gone away and the cross references don't seem to be breaking anymore, but InDesign still crashes when I try to export our book. DTP's support people insist that their plug-in should be able to handle large books, unlike InDesign. (And I've heard very good things about their support.) Is it possible that our files and/or book are corrupted from when we had the native InDesign cross references? Has anyone switched from native InDesign cross references to DTP cross references?

I don't think it's been determined if you have the latest ID update for your version of ID? BTW, which version are you using?
Where is the "too many files open" message coming from? Operating System (which?) ID? What's the exact message? A screen shot would help. Back in the days of DOS and early Windows, there were commands to set the number of permitted files open at once. Not sure how to do it in modern OSs. If it's an ID message, perhaps someone's got a suggestion.
Some folks on the forum like to see crash files so they can try to analyze them. Search Google for terms like "adobe forum indesign pastebin" without quotes to find some of those postings and learn how to send your crash report files there, and look at the names of those who volunteer to analyze the files.
I was thinking that two book container files that hold the same total number of files in the original single book might lighten the processing load and perhaps avoid a crash. With some work, I think it's possible to get the pagination and other numbering schemes, and x-refs to emulate a single book. I think that this is different from exporting half the files from one book, then the other half. It's not tested, just a thought. One other thought is to remove one file at a time from the book, starting at either the beginning or end, and export, until you find the maximum number of files that succeed consistently. Then try from the other end, to see if the crash happens with the same number of files, or perhaps same number of pages, or even, perhaps, at the same page. Perhaps the number of cross-references in the content is related to the crash. Again, just brainstorming.
You might explore with DTPTools support whether they'd want to see your crash files, to determine if the problem traces to their plug-in. Also, perhaps they'd like to look at your whole project - if it's permissable with your company or client, to see if DTPTools' techs can reproduce the crash.
    erin.miska wrote:
We've actually never had the InDesign files open while exporting the book and never had a problem. Just to be sure, I tried this. We actually have too many files to open at one time, but I opened as many as I could. Still crashed.
Can you help me understand your thought behind the second option? What am I troubleshooting by having cross references that point to a document in another book?

The last two times I used the "Report this Post" link the messages bounced back to my email address from a third-party server. • Cross-reference auto-page numers?

Can anyone tell me why i cannot get cross-references to work with  automatic page numbering?  Is there some fundamental error i am  making?  I have the master files setup with auto-page numbering based on  'current page.'  All of my pages are numbered sequentially as 1, 2, 3,  etc. and setup with a unique paragraph style.  however, when i try to  reference a page number in the document, none of the pages show up under  the paragraph style in the cross-reference menu.  I have even tried to  use ctrl+shft+click on the desired reference page to bring the page number frame  from the master file onto that specific page, but the text still does  not show up in the cross-references menu.  I feel as though i must be  making some sort of mistake because it seems this could be one of the  more obvious/widespread uses for the cross-reference feature.  Any help  would be great.  Perhaps there is simply another way to do  this?  Thanks!
    Garrett

    GarrettTV wrote:
    Peter,
I understand that this is probably a more specific use of the feature, no doubt.  It is ultimately unrealistic to expect a program to work exactly as each individual user's project approach dictates.  I dont take the comment as a slam, dont fret.
My confusion and concern ultimately stems from the fact that, on the surface (granted, I am definitely not a programmer ), it seems like the ability to directly reference the page number would be, almost inherently, already built-in in the sense that the page number is recognized as a product of content placement.  In other words, if the cross-reference knows that changes to the document composition have caused my referenced content to move from auto-numbered page 36 to auto-numbered page 37, yet the reference cannot exist to simply the page number itself.  It has to exist via the content on taht page.  Hopefully I have provided and explanation which makes sense!
In all honesty, the ability to reference only content and not also page number is only goingot set me back about half.  For my sake, I have a 300 page document which includes hundreds of figures/illustrations, all of which correspond to text explanations in a different part of the document.  Over time, it is anticipated that standards and graphics will be added/subtracted/changed, and therefore, so will the section numbering, page numbering, figure numbering, and the corresponding pages on which all of these pieces of info will occur.  We would like to correspond figures and sections to one number; in this case, the page.  Because each figure/illustration will have it's own page, it is desired to make the figure number and page number match to achieve an easier means of navigating the book.  Basically, I want the text section, which will be read first, to reference figure numbers and/or page numbers (at this point, i have the option of choosing one or the other), but both of these numbers are going to dynamically update.
So, if that made any sense at all (ha), is there a way to use the cross references to point at a number that is set to automatically/dynamically change?  If there is not, then perhaps I will simply have to create static figure numbers for the referenced content and then just let the page numbers change over time.  If you have any other suggestions, I am definitely open to exploring them!
    Thanks for the continued help!
    Garrett
    Hi, Garrett:
If I understand your description correctly, it seems that you're asking for an unusual numbering/navigation approach. Is there an example that you've seen that works this way, and that you want to emulate? Is this a publishing style/convention in the particular industry?
Am I correct in imagining that in a document that contains three figures on discontiguous pages, they might be numbered something like this:
    Page #
    Figure #
    1
    1
    15
    15
    250
    250
This would result in no figures 2, 3...14...249. Would your document have references to figure 15 on page 15? Would you want your list of figures (LOF) to resemble:
    Figure  number and title                                                     Page
       1.  Example of the widget in question .............................    1
    15.  Example of another widget .........................................  15
(sorry about the messy table layout - the HTML is tricky)
Would your audience be concerned that the figure numbers are not consecutive across a multi-chapter book, or consecutive within a chapter, and restart in each chapter? That is, would a reader think that some figures are missing?
Is there a specific objection to figure 11 on page 26 becoming figure 11 on page 28, if text content were inserted, or becoming figure 16 on page 29 if figures were inserted? When numbered-list paragraph styles and cross-reference formats are set up properly, cross-references to these figures would update to indicate both the correct number and correct page.
    Have I misunderstood something?
    [EDIT]
I forgot to ask if your document will be using cross-references interactively in a PDF or other multimedia format. If so, can you give more detail on your expectations?
Have you looked into InDesign hyperlinks? They can refer to a page number - either "sticking" to the designated page no matter if its page number changes because of reflow or being moved, or "sticking" to whatever happens to become the "n-th" page if the original page is relocated. Search Help for Create a hyperlink to a page.

  • Cross Reference an Object??

How do I cross reference an object using Indesign CS4?
I've got a PDF that I've dropped into a frame, which I applied an Object Style.  Now I need to create a cross references in the document, that point to the PDF (a chart).  I've got to do this with several PDF's.
When I go to create a cross reference, I can only apply it a Paragraph Style or a Text Anchor, I don't get an Object Style to choose from.
I could put some text in behind the chart, and arrage the chart to the front, but i'd rather create a cross reference to the Object itself.
    What do i do?

Cross-references only point to text - either a text anchor or a paragraph - not to objects.
If your placed PDF is in an anchored frame, you can point the cross-reference to the paragraph in which the frame is anchored.
If your placed PDF is not in an anchored frame, you can do what you suggest above, or you have these other options:
    * place the PDF into a text frame
    * create a text frame and group it with the PDF; point the cross-reference to the paragraph in the text frame, or insert a text anchor in the text and point the cross-reference to it.
    * you can paste the grouped PDF and text frame object into a text frame to make it an anchored frame.
The idea of a cross-reference is usually to point to a caption or heading. You can't point to the text in a placed PDF because it's really a graphic. You'll probably want a caption to identify the chart. The caption is the text you cross-reference to. The caption can be in the paragraph that holds the anchor, in a text frame grouped with the graphic, in a paragraph above or below the graphic, or in an anchored frame that's positioned near the graphic.
If your layout will not reflow, you probably don't need an anchored frame, but if the layout will reflow, you'll want to use the ability of an anchored to move with the text.
Read about cross-references and anchored frames in Help. If your caption will be numbered, such as "Figure 3," also read about numbered lists and numbering properties of paragraph styles.

  • Cross Reference displays wrong Chapter

I have several FrameMaker files that will eventually be combined into one book. In some chapters there are references to outside chapters. At some point another person that was using these files had to switch the Chapter title; for example Chapter 7 became Chapter 6. Now when I open up, lets say Chapter 5, and I set up a cross reference to chapter 6 I got throug the following steps:
I make sure both files are open in FrameMaker, I put my cursor in the spot I want to make a hyperlink > Right click > Cross Reference
When the window Pops up I make the following selections:
    Document: Chpater 6
    Source Type: Paragraphs
    Paragraph type: Heading1
    Paragraphs: Page 7
I select the exact paragraph I want referenced
    Format: CH XX, #
When I hit replace I am expecting the text on the screen to say something like "CH06, 3-1 Title" but instead it says "CH07, 3-1 Title"
The link goes to the location I want, it goes right to Chapter 6 but the visible text says Chapter 7 which is wrong. I assume this is happening because someone switched those two chapters.
Does anyone know how to edit what the text says or what I need to change in the switched chapters to make it work correctly. Something else I noticed is that the Document option in the cross reference is saying Chapter 6 with the old title, not the latest up to date title.

I think I may be having the same issue. I'm using Technical Communications version 3. I have a huge FM book composed of many books - over 3,000 pages if it were printed. I'm linking to the FM file in RoboHelp (RH). No broken xrefs in FM, but when I go to RH, there are odd xrefs or missing ones. I keep updating both FM and RH without any success. So, I generated a list of cross-reference markers in FM.
This is what I think is causing this. Even though you're supposed to be able to link to the FM file and if all is ok with the FM book (no errors, no broken xrefs), everything should chug along in RH. But, NO, it doesn't. When I put in cross-references in FM, I do them by the paragraph. But then you can also see the actual marker text, which doesn't always agree with the heading text. This is what RH uses. So, if you're having these issues, check the marker text to make sure it matches the paragraph text.
Below is an example where I had updated the heading, but the marker didn't match. FM didn't care and didn't report a broken cross-reference. RH just displayed the xref heading but it wasn't a link. Very frustrating. I'm looking for a way to get the xref markers to match the paragraph headings.
This is the heading: EContent in the PAC Patron Account
and this is the marker text: 28254:Heading 3: 3M eBooks in the PAC Patron Account - Items Out 768
BTW - I saw some snarky answers - just insecure people who want to show how much they know technically. For me, I just want the *******' tool to work! If I wanted to know all the sausage-making, I'd have been a programmer. I actually like to write and fiddling with RH is just tedious! In my experience, programmers are a dime a dozen; good writers are rare.
Make this a snark-free zone and help novices. Lord knows, Adobe's own documentation just doesn't get it. They tell you what something is but not how to do it! Oh, and the UX in RH is so cluttered and confusing! Do you use a pod or a menu item, what is important enough to get a pod? Why are there all these different ways to set up a project? It's like it was designed by hyped-up, overly-caffeinated people with really bad OCD. It's not about the tool, it's about the writers trying to get their jobs done!

  • Cross Reference incorrect syntax

Trying to create a partial text cross reference using the suggested code:
    <fullPara delim=”:” includeDelim=”false”/>
However, InDesign (CC) is giving me an "Incorrect Syntax" message.
    Ideas?
    Thanks.

@Sandee – after experimenting a bit with all kinds of quotes, I find the syntax for cross references  a bit strange.
Here is a screen shot from my German InDesign CS5.5 v7.5.3. on OSX 10.6.8.
It is showing the code for "Full Paragraph and Page Number" by *default*.
Note the curly opening and closing quotes in German style.
And note, that there are no quotes around:
    <pageNum />
The code is still correct, if you are not using quotes at all in this example…

  • Cross reference to an image on textless pages

My InDesign project has pages with only graphics on some pages, or even a single image across two pages. I'd like to reference them for two purposes-
to build a list of plates - could be file name and page number as a starting point.
to reference in explanitory text, eg "See earlier work X on page 22 and Z on pages 10-11"
I can't figure out how to associate a marker with an image. I seem to have to create an empty text box as a child of the graphic and insert a text anchor if I want to insert a cross reference to that graphic elsewhere. It's a bit cludgy and I don't really know what to do with the graphics that span pages, or how to generate a list of plates when I'm done- I imagine I should be using the index tool, but then, will I have to create both an index and a text anchor? Or can a cross-reference link to a page reference created in the index tool, instead of a to text anchor/hyperlink destination? Or is there a way to index and cross reference non-text objects?
I'm using CS5 version of InDesign.

See http://forums.adobe.com/message/2614941 where this is discussed.
    Hope that helps

  • Cross reference + GREP + excluding text

I would like to know if anyone has a solution to the following problem.
I have a paragraph style which I use to label tables within my document. In the paragraph style I have set up numbering (under Bullets and Numbering) so that each heading appears as "Table 1.1 School Children in HK" or "Table 1.2 School Children in China" the code I have entered in the 'number' field of the paragraph style appears below:
    Table ^H.^#^/
I have inserted the word 'Table' prior to the rest of the code so that the label is correct.
When I create cross references I select 'Cross Reference Format' to be 'paragraph number' the problem is, however,  that the word 'Table' is picked up as part of the 'paragraph number' because of the settings in the Paragraph Style. The end result looking like this:
The result is fine if you are cross referencing a single table per sentence, however, if you are dealing with multiple tables in plural this is a problem. What I would like to achieve is this:
Does anyone know if there is a way to achieve this by editing the 'Cross Reference Format' so that the word 'Table' disappears when the cross reference is generated? Perhaps with GREP?
I would really appreciate your help.

    Hi Tom,
Im following standard English conventions (UK, if you will)  and the format at the moment is a wee bit clunky when you have to write something like 'Table 7.1, Table 7.2, Table 7.3, Table 7.4 and Table 7.5.....' as will be the case later in the document. The other arrangment of 'Tables 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4 and 7.5.....' is much shorter and easier to read - brevity is essential in this document because of limited word count.

  • Cross-References coming from Word in FM 7.2

    Hi Folks,
I have a problem with the Cross-References. I create an EDD and Read/Write rules, and generate a conversion table. With it I'm converting all the my documentation in MS Word to Structured FM 7,2. It works well, but there two main problems that I can't solve. I spent a lot of time reading the Structure application Developer Guide, but I can't find a solution.
First one is a minor problem that I can solve with a script but, maybe I'm doing something wrong on FM and it is easy to fix on the conversion table. When I apply the conversion table it generate without problems the RootElement, and apply tags for the paragraphs and Character formats, but I can't do that put other tags that are not related with text. I mean, my DTD need this structure:
    <book>
    <body>
    <heading1>xxxxx</heading1>
    </body>
    </book>
    and I obtain it:
    <book>
    <heading1>xxxxx</heading1>
    </book>
I don't know if I can modify Rules, or EDD or Conversion table, to add the intermediate tag when use Structure Current Document
Second one is a blocking one. I generate the XML with the tags and fix any problem on it. It works great and I obtain a XML :
    <book><heading1 Id = "i1003066"><bookmark
        type = "38548: Heading 1: 1. This is the title"/>This is the title</heading1>
<paragraph>This is the text of the Title <reference Idref = "i1003066" type = "Page"/> and it bla bla bla</paragraph></book>
But when I try to re-open the XML with my structured application I obtain a log error:
"Error at line 17, char 31, Message: ID attribute 'i1003066' was referenced but never declared"
and a warning about cross-references missing (they working before save it as XML). File open and all is fine, except that references are missing and when I try to update the Reference dialog box to find other file is open with this message:
1 Unresolved Cross-References to File: Current
And ask me to find the "Current" file where point the reference. All the references in the document appears missing.
Must I have two set of files, one FM for generate the PDF, and the XML for generate the help with my XLS? It is not possible re-open the XML on Framemaker and don't lost the references?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,

    Hi Van,
    You wrote:
    >>  You need to DELETE "Xref"  . . . This states that the reference element is a Frame cross-reference element;  you should not include another name.
That may or may not be true. If the element names are different in the XML (DTD) than FrameMaker (EDD), this is the mechanism by which you translate names. It may be that in this case, the EDD element name is Xref, but the DTD element name is reference.
    You also wrote:
    >> Maybe this will help clear things up, but it may be unreasonable to expect that cross-references in Word will translate cleanly to structured FrameMaker.
In this case, I couldn't agree more. Esperanzas, I would recommend that you limit your faith in the conversion process, because there are many variables that will likely get mistranslated. Unless you are willling to do some programming with the FDK to clean up afterwards, I would expect that all cross-references should be recreated manually after import.
