CP5: Close Captions example needed

I'm testing Captivate 5 and stuck with Close Captions. Because of that I am using the German version of Captivate, I suffer from some differences in what I learn from the German documentation and system behaviour.
As far as I have understood, the Close Caption texts will be shown in the presentation, more or less as an addition to the slide audio in case of that the project is presented without audio equipment. And therefore I have found settings for font and background colour and so on - but whatever I try, nothin appears at the screen.
Maybe it would help me to see an example of how the Close Caption texts should be shown in the presentation. So I would appreciate a link to a screen shot that shows the result and to get some information on what beginners mostly will make the wrong way with CC (how to enter and maintain CC texts is shown in several blogs).

Susan-
To get closed caption to appear normally follow these steps:
1. Create the first slide blank. (Slide 1)
2. Set the slide 1 time duration to 0.1 sec
3. Click on Project/Advanced Actions  then Type in the Action name (eg. CC) Select action/assign
4. Select the variable "cpCmndcc". After the "with" select "literal" and replace the box with "1" (no quotes) Save this step and close.
5. Click on the slide 2 (usually the title slide). Click on Properties
6. Under Action, On Enter: select Execute Advanced actions
7. Script CC (I named mine CC1)
8. Close captions appear for all slides in the File/Preview/Project mode or after published. CC's will not appear during play mode.
I hope this helps,

  • Flash Streaming Video with Close Captioning

    Hello,
I am trying to create streaming video using flash. I've
already created the video and encoded as a FLV file.
    Two questions:
    1. I am currently hosting my streaming video on
Playstream.com. How do I incorporate this video such that when a
user views the content he/she will see a buffer bar loading as the
video plays? A good example is on YouTube.com.
    2. I've aready created my close caption file and have it in
xml format. How do I sync my close captioned file with the flash
    video?
    Thanks in advance.
    mdawg

I don't know too much about how to capture both video and
aplication monitoring moves at the same time.
I do however want to warn you about a possible pitfall of
making the presenter's video by recording with a digital cammera in
front of a PC or TV monitor screen.
The video from a monitor screen, taken with a digital camera
comes out full of glitches and flashes. This is present the video
in the monitor, and those used by the recording digital camera to
capture the scenes. It's a synchronization problem and makes the
    video very unconfortable to watch.
A wrokaround for this requires expensive and hard to come by
equipment. To work around this, I would suggest to record a video
of the presenter first. Have him or her read the script while
standing or sitting in front of a fixed colored background. This
helps to avoid distractions to the viewer.
Review, edit and decide how you like the presentation video
first. Create the video file, and then you can play it in a 2x2
    window on your PC monitor.
Here is where my expertise stops.
I don't know how or if you can then record the screen while
manipulating and recording your application's CAPTIVATE file. Maybe
it's possible to capture both windows at the same time side by
side, but my point is that you need to avoid recording with a
digital camera from a video monitor, it just doesn't look good.
    Hope this helps a little.

  • Front Row & DVD close captioning

Will Front Row allow use of close captioning for dvds that do not have subtitles?

I tried this with .srt and Quicktime .txt files, and with movies in .m4v and .avi format. I tried them in iTunes, Quicktime Player, and Front Row. In none of them did the subtitles show up by putting them in the same folder. I downloaded what seems to be the SRT import bundle you're referring to from here:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25631
I've also tried opening the videos in Quicktime Pro and adding the text track, but then I can't seem to toggle it on and off in iTunes or Front Row. If I open it in Quicktime Player, I can toggle subtitles on and off by going to the Movie Properties and toggling the checkbox for the Text Track, but it seems like I should be able to get it to actually recognize that text track as a track for subtitles/CC.
I'm sorry if this is moving a bit away from the original question about DVDs and more into the arena of closed captioning for video files in general; I'll create a new thread if need be.

  • Question: Inserting Close Captioning is not available...Why?

I will need to add Accessibility and close captioning support. I have checked this off in the Project settings and migrated to slide one properties.
Click on Accessibility and the panel defaults to three tabs. The directions I am seeing suggest text in this field will be read by an appropriate screen reader. However why is close caption and slide text buttons grey?
Using CP 4.01 with the latest update 1658

    Hi there
Closed Captioning will only be available if you have audio on the slide. Do you have audio?

  • Close Captions can't see audio from video file

Trying to close caption a video file using Slide Notes in Captivate 5.  Inserted Video via Insert>Slide Video,  added notes via Slide Notes and checked off cc box.  When I go to Audio dialog (Audio > Record > to Slide), my notes show up only as notes, the captions tab is empty.   No audio is displayed for the slide (because it is expecting me to record or import some audio).
From what I've read, this audio dialog box is where I synch my slide notes as captions, but I can't see any audio or video synch reference at all -- even duration / frame count would work.
Do I need to import a separate mp3 version of the movie to synch to?
    Any suggestions?

I figured it out - typical obvious error on my part.   If I'm captioning a MOVIE, I need to adjust the timing via the Video tab, not the audio tab.

  • How to create Chinese Close Captioning in Premiere Pro CC?

I am using an English version Premier Pro CC, the Chinese character will not display on screen when created in the caption window. Do I need a Chinese version of Premiere Pro for creating Chinese close captioning?

    Hello,
Have you read through this article yet? Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Importing still images
Seems like the section at the end of the article could be helpful
    Resizing imported images
Imported images usually have a higher resolution than imported videos, so they appear cropped when viewed on the Timeline in Premiere Pro.
You can individually adjust the scale of the clips to match the sequence frame size. Or you can use the Set to Frame Size command to quickly resize the image.
When you use the Set To Frame Size command, the native pixel resolution of the image is preserved, letting you see the sharpest resolution when you zoom in on an image.
Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) an image in a Timeline.
You can select multiple images in the Timeline at once by pressing Shift and clicking the images.
    Select Set To Frame Size.
When you select the Set To Frame Size command, the Scale To Frame Size setting is toggled off for improved playback performance.
Please let us know if this does the trick or if you need further help.

  • Capturing a Close Captioned master

I apologise if this issue is already posted somewhere that I couldn't find. But I am trying to capture a closed captioned master into Final Cut Pro 5. When I print to beta sp a don't see the close caption but I can see the the VBI line 21 in the captured clip? Am I missing something? My thought is that the cc would enter and exit with the video line. I contacted support and he said that he hadn't been trained in this topic, which surprises me as I thought this would be a popular issue if working in broadcast.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Stever

I'm not sure this is the same case, but someone in Big D had what sounds like the same problem. All I could find was MacCaption <http://www.ccaption.com/cap_softwaremac.shtml> , which looked like it might do the job (for $6000), but here is what he did, may be a clue buried in there:
Don't leave me hangin', man. What's the workaround? Interns? I may have
someone with the same problem someday.
Ah. Well. You won't believe how we did it. Our master was on DigiBeta and
we didn't want to bump down to SP, so we took the SP master with the CC
encoding that <person X> us and captured it into the Avid, then
captured the Digi unrecompressed, then put one over the other on a time line
and masked out all but line 21 in an overlay. Simple, but it worked. We
then re-recorded it onto a new Digi master and we had the best of both
worlds: CC with out down converting the master to SP.
The hilarious thing is that the $6K software NEEDS EXACTLY THE SAME
PROCESS!!!! It takes the .cc or .scc file and converts it into black video
with the line 21 data encoded, then you lay it over your program on the
timeline and do the same masking trick. All for $6K.
    Bunch of rubbish.
As to interns, they're useful for other purposes.
I could put you in contact with this feller - email me if you think it would help. Don't ask me, over my head! Also, may require an Avid as described.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro 6 CS Close Captions using Pro 6 CC?

I have Adobe Premiere Pro 6 CS and need to create Close Captions for a production I'm doing.
I know I can't create the Captions on Pro 6 CS but can I create them in Pro 6 CC and import them into the production on the CS side?

Here is a thread that discusses closed captioning functionality and the split between legacy PPRO CS 6.0 and the online CC version at that time -- Premiere Pro CC version 7.01.
Premiere Pro CS6 - Closed Captioning
Projects created from on version of PPRO should migrate with no problems to the next version. Closed captions can be added to any project you open, provided the application version you are using supports creating closed captions.
I suggest you work with one version of PPRO to keep things simple.

  • Close Captioning in Adobe Connect?

What is the process for close captioning in AC? How does it work? I am using version 9. I found the page on Adobe site to download the pod at http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/closed-captioning.html. What next?
    Thanks.

The key is that you need someone to provide the captioning.
I can tell you what we do. We use Caption Colorado to provide the actual captioning during the event.
Share Pod - Share document - Upload the Caption Pod
Under configuation, we choose Caption Colorado and use the Meeting ID we get from them after we schedule the captioning.

  • Close captioning Captivate 8 for audio attached to image. This audio is outside the main timeline audio

I have a slide with some introductory audio that prompts users to explore the images on the screen. Each image is a button that plays an audio clip when pressed. The audio clips that play when clicked are narratives. These need to be closed captioned, but are outside the "timeline" therefore they don't show in the "edit" window of the audio to be captioned from slide notes.
How do I close caption both the slide audio and the clips that are attached to the button?  I am required to make this training accessible by including closed captioning  (not just rollover text) of ALL audio on a slide. This is for full compliance for hearing impaired learners.
    Thanks!

It's not possible. Really the only thing you can do is to jump around the timeline depending on what the user clicks on.
You have to figure out which frames to jump to and use advanced actions.
You could also jump to separate slides, but that may interfere with navigation if you are using the playbar.

  • Close Captioning on Premiere CC

Yesterday I had to get a tape out for delivery. I came back to the shop and found my online editor with his head is his hands while my show was going to tape.  The image was skipping tons of frames.
Close capationing was working though. I had just moved a new system into online, all our preliminary tests went great and this was not supposed to be happening. We are using a Black Magic Design i/o.
I had made sure all the settings were correct. Unrendered timelines played fine, put the close captioning file on the time line and playback would stutter. We rendered the time line and we were getting two skip frames per 5 minute segment.
My online editor tried to go to tape and was at his wits end. That is when i threw everything I had read online out the window and tried something completely new.
I render the timeline (which was yellow lined) without the captioning present. Like i said it was playing fine without the captioning so i am not sure why i thought of this. I then added the close captioning to the timeline.
The time line now went from green to yellow again but the project now played flawlessly and we got our tape out in time.
Maybe this is how you are supposed to do it and I missed something. I am posting this in case it helps someone get threw their day with a lttle less stress.

  • How do I know if a movie or TV show is close-captioned before I buy?

I just bought a TV show that I had already seen on cable. It was close-captioned. So I bought it on iTunes only to find out that it is not close-captioned.
I'm nearly deaf, and don't want to make the same mistake again, but I haven't been able to find a symbol or notation indicating such before buying, and the 'HELP' doc doesn't.
Apple has been very sensitive to varying abilities with Universal Access, etc., and standard listings elsewhere indicate whether or not something is close-captioned, so I'm puzzled. Am I missing something?

    iTunes Store: About closed captioning
You should see the CC trademark under the description.
