CP5 pre-loader questions re: video

Forgive the long post..
I published a Cap 5 project in which the first 4 slides contain short videos.  The pre-loader is set to 70%.  When playing the course from a server or LMS the initial load ranges from 1 minute to 5 minutes depending on location and computer.   After the initial load reaches 70% the first video shows its own loading screen for a few additional seconds and begins to play.  Subsequent videos will also show a brief loader before they play.  The video and project sizes are as follows:
- Course SWF is 12.5mb
Slide one video is 827kb
Slide two video is 1.2mb
Slide three video is 1.9mb
Slide four video is 950kb
- All videos are encoded F4V
- Project is published from CP5 on a Mac
- Latest Flash player is being used for all user machines
The Problems:
- On high performance machines with fast internet connections, the content loads and plays as expected, however on slightly older machines, or slow connections the playback is jerky and unpredictable
- Playback performance from a web server is generally better than from the SumTotal LMS regardless of the machine capabilities
- On several occasions the audio for the next slide plays simultaneous with the video from the current slide.  Also bullets that are synched with the slide and video will fall out of synch.  After reloading or using the nav bar to back up, the slide generally plays as expected.
My questions for the community:
1 - Will the pre-loader load F4V videos before playback?  Can someone explain what the pre-loader will load what it will not?
2 - If the preloader does not load video, is there a downside to setting the preloader to a minimum number (say 10%) to at least reduce the initial load cycle?
3 -  How do I ensure that audio from the next slide will not play on the current slide or video synchronized with timeline elements do not fall out of synch?
Thanks
Jeff

Hi there,
Please find the answers for your questions.
1 - Will the pre-loader load F4V videos before playback?  Can someone explain what the pre-loader will load what it will not?
<ashwin> No, preloader only loads the main Movie. Once the slide with video is encountered the Video load is initiated and this loads the video. FLV video and Animations (if they are externalised) are not loaded while preloading the movie.
</ashwin>
2  - If the preloader does not load video, is there a downside to setting  the preloader to a minimum number (say 10%) to at least reduce the  initial load cycle?
<ashwin> Yes you can do this but i am not sure if this reduces the project loading time. I will try to explain you the way preloader works.  A 10% preloader percentage indicates to load 10% of the SWF size, For instance if the SWF size is 12 MB then the project starts to play once 1.2 MB of the project is loaded. So if the project has rich content in the first few slides then loading may take time as it has it has to load the first slide fully to show the first slide. So it all depends on how the project is created and how the content is distributed in the project.
</ashwin>
3 -  How do I ensure that audio from  the next slide will not play on the current slide or video synchronized  with timeline elements do not fall out of synch?
<ashwin>Do you have the audio from first slide to n slides continuously, if thats the case then in the published output a single audio file will be created with the published SWF and is stored in the SWF (In this case we say audio is sitched). So if a preloader is set to 10%, even though only 10% of the movie will be preloaded the entire audio should be loaded which might create sync issues as the movie will have started to play while the audio is being loaded.
To overcome this you may choose to increase the slide time of the slides containing audio by around 0.1 second. This activity will split the audio in the published output and hence will have small audio fragments to load while the movie is loading. If around 20 slides have audio continuously then you can increase the slide time for around 6-7 slides and not all.
</ashwin>
Try them and let me know if this information helped.
Thanks

  • Insert Media Flash Video... pre-loader question

    Hello everybody
I'm desperately looking for a solution regarding the
following problem: I've inserted a rather long flv video (insert -
media - flash video) into my site. Visitors with smaller bandwith
have to wait up to 30" until the video starts playing. I either
want to show them a screen saying: "video is going to be buffered -
please wait" or to include an adaptive preloader that shows the %

Thanks for all of your input, because this issue is very important

Can you divide your long video into several small clips or
    chapters? Then
just put all the clips into a common player like this one
    from Coffee Cup -
    and loop them together.

  • Problem with pre-loader and video playback

    Hi!
    I've got a real problem - I managed to put together a
pre-loader OK but it doesn't load the entire movie.
Instead it loads a little bit and tries to stream, but it
stutters of course because the server can't cope.
So what I want to do is:
    - make my preloader wait for my video file (.swf) to load
    (about 6Mb)
    - play my video file (.swf)
    How do I do this?
You can check out what I'm attempting to do at
    Scottish Car Club
Also, if I go to www.scottishcarclub.com , the video loads
up. But if I hit refresh, it turns the video from 320x260 into a
    40x40 - sized box. Why!?!?!?

  • Pre-loading videos on iPod touches?

    Hi,
I would like to pre-load some videos on some iPod touches and give them to some friends.
Will those videos get erased once those people connect the iPod touches up to their computer and synchronize them with their iTunes library? Or will it give them the option to save the pre-loaded videos?
    Thanks

    Good idea,
I will pre-load the videos so they can view them right away. In addition, I will give them the videos on a CD so they will have the option of re-importing them after synchronizing the iPod touch with their computers.
    Thank you

  • How can I choose ringtones instead of pre-loaded sounds for alarms

I have a bunch of questions. First, how can I choose ringtones (my last phone had a category called "tones") and other purchased sounds instead of the pre-loaded sounds for my alarms, text message alerts, etc.? Thanks.

Apple no longer sells ringtones... Besides you never needed to buy them because they're easy to make! All you need is DRM free music (burned from cd, iTunes +). Read this link for instructions:

  • Pre-Loaded 5th Generation i-Pod

    Hey Everyone -
First off I want to say that I just received my first ever i-Pod, which is a fifth generation unit that is black in color. It was purchased for me by a friend who pre-loaded it with a ton of music for me. I went to start loading music videos to my unit when I started bumping into a problem.
I share a computer with my wife, who has an older, non-color display i-Pod (our computer is an IBM NetVista running Windows 2000). She already has i-Tunes on our computer and in i-Tunes, she has an extensive library with her music files. When I go to plug in my new i-Pod, i-Tunes detects the unit and asks if I'd like to sync my unit with my wife's library that is already on our computer. I always select "no" as I do not want to lose the existing music files that were pre-loaded onto my i-Pod by my friend and have it replaced with my wife's. Once I select "no", it seems as though there is nothing else that can be done in i-Tunes that will allow it to detect my unit, create a library for me based on the music files that I already have on my unit and allow me to purchase my own music files to be added to my i-Pod. Is there any way around this? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated and Thanks in advace for your advice.

What you are trying to do is considered music piracy, and it's illegal.
You cannot keep the content that your friend put on it.
The Apple iPod was designed specifically to hinder this type of illegal file sharing.
If you want the tracks that your friend has, I suggest you purchase them legally for yourself.
    Please don't steal music!

  • Sourcing Cockpit Worklist - Failure to pre-load worklist

    Hello SRM Experts
We are running SRM 5.00 in an extended classic scenario. I have a question that is bugging me so hopefully you can help.
I have a user who is the sole purchaser in a purchasing group for a specific company code. He is responsible for almost all of the product categories and this has been reflected in the Responsability tab of the Purch Org Structure. Yet when he opens his sourcing cockpit, his worklist is not pre-loaded with the shopping carts awaiting his attention, unlike other purchasers that I have set up in the structure for other company codes. Yet if he uses the Find tab in the sourcing cockpit and specifies his purchasing group, all the shopping carts appear which he then transfers to his worklist which can  be irritating having to do every time.
    Thanks in advance
    Ian

    Hi Ian,
So you're saying that you have one user that encounters two problems (worklist and currency) that his colleagues (set up the same way) don't... Well, such user-specific oddities can be a real challenge. It could be difficult to trace the route cause. There're a number of possibilities, including authorization issues (even if you don't see the difference by manual comparison), some inconsistencies in BP-user-org relationships... Some of the things you can try (in no particular order):
    a. run an authorization check <SU53> after the problem test (e.g. open worklist with the user, then check <SU53>).
    b. run an authorization trace <ST01> during the problem test.
    c. check for any BP/org inconsistencies related to your user in <BBP_BP_OM_INTEGRATE> (check all object types). Repair any errors or warnings.
    d. have an ABAPer debug through your problem test (give the user debugging authorizations temporarily).
    e. open a ticket with SAP Support.
    Cheers,
    Serguei

  • Slow startup - can we pre-load AcroRd32.exe?

Hi all, my users click on a PDF link and Acrobat 6.0 begins to launch within the IE browser. However, the launch slows down and sometimes fails when loading all the Acrobat plug-ins (api files).
Now, when the user closes the browser, the AcroRd32.exe process still runs in the background. The next time they click on a PDF document link, the document loads lightning fast.
Question- is there a way to pre-load Acrobat when the user boots up or launches IE?
    Thanks in advance

Yes, you might be able to execute a script that launced Reader when IE initializes but why would you want to do that? You run the risk of multiple hidden instances of Reader running in the background and eating up your system resources. Your users will still get the EULA to OK when you launch Reader silently too. Oh well... here is the switch to do it anyway. You are responsible for scripting it.

  • QT movie will not pre-load text track for chapters when streaming

We have been trying to stream quicktime files with chapters for some time and have followed every tutorial, message board advice and trick to get this to work but with no luck. I am unable to get the chapters to show up in QTplayer when the video is streaming. I am trying to accomplish exactly what you see on this web page http://media.law.unimelb.edu.au/kalt/
Basically, we have successfully created our movie file (with fast start enabled), successfully created our text track, copied it onto our movie file, and set it to preload, as in the instructions at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/chaptertracks.html (I had to roll-back QT Pro as the Preload checkbox has disappeared from 7.4.5!!).
Then we have saved it as a self-contained movie, and it works perfectly, with drop-down chapters in the right places, etc.
As soon as we put the file on our quicktime streaming server however, the file streams great but there are no chapters. If I look at the movie properties of our streaming file, there is no text track listed. The properties of the streaming file on the above web page DOES show the text track listed, so I am guessing that mine is simply not pre-loading the text file, even though I have checked the box to do just that and the chapters work great if I simply open the file locally, just not when it is streaming. I have tried this with many test files, large and small.
Could anyone let me know how I can get that text track to pre-load in the stream and therefore have the chapters appear in the drop-down list in quicktime player when streaming? I would be eternally grateful!

First, you don't have to roll-back QT Pro, as what you want to do can be accomplished with the latest QuickTime.
Second, skip down to the bottom of that page you linked to. You'll find a Step 1 and Step 2 that applies to Streaming QuickTime movies with chapters. This was sort of confusing when I first tried it, but the way you accomplish Step 1 is to start the stream using a computer that has QuickTime Pro, then save the stream as "Self-Contained" (NOT the original movie that resides on your Streaming Server). As when you save any QuickTime stream as Self-Contained, you'll end up with a really tiny movie that simply points to the streaming server.
Once you have that movie, you add the chapters to it (again, not to the movie that resides on your QTSS), then when someone clicks that link (or even if they download that tiny movie to their desktop), the chapter loads immediately (because it's right there) and choosing chapters in it commands the QTSS to begin playing from that point. I've got an example I posted here.

  • Pre-loading a table, populating data

hopefully someone has already crossed this bridge,
does anyone know how to pre-load a table and then populate the data returned from a query? I have seen websites like ingrammicro.com that display the results from a search where you can see the table and some of the data , and then slowly you start seeing pricing populated within the table. maybe this is more of an HTML question.not sure. thanks for any information you can give.
    thanks, Tim

    yes, that will work. thanks.

  • Pre-loaded Music?

I just got my iPod nano as a gift and when I took it out of the box, it already had 660 songs on it and 4 games.
Are they supposed to come pre-loaed with media?

The games come on the iPod Nano standard. You can not add new games to it (the ones for sale on iTunes are only for the Video iPod). The music may have been put on there by the person that gave it to you as a gift. You may want to check with them. Apple does not pre-load music on there. It may be possible that someone returned the iPod to a store and failed to delete the music first. Ask the gift giver if they put the music on there for you. If not, then you can restore the iPod to factory settings and it will remove all of it for you.

  • 4.5 Download Lost Pre-Loaded Pics

After I downloaded 4.5 software to enhance emails, I lost all the Curve pre-loaded piocs...nothing crucial except that I used some as wallpaper.   Can I get them back?

    Same question:
What version of the OS did you load, what the is version at Options > About?
The preloade pics won't be 'found' on the disk. As explained above, some of the OS 4.5 released did NOT include the preloaded pictures. Believe it.
Identify you OS release as noted above, and I'll tell if it was one of those.

  • Pre-loaded Australia Map in 6110 Navigator

    Hi All,
I have 6110 Navigator which was bought from Singapore. It came with a pre-loaded Singapore map, which isn't much use for me here in Oz so I deleted it.
Now I have a few questions
    (1) How do I get the Australian map into this phone, as if it came pre-loaded like other 6110 Navigtor in Australia?
    (2) Where does the pre-loaded map reside? In the memory card or phone?
    (3) Do I need to pay for a licence to use the pre-loaded map?
    (4) Do I need to flash my 6110 to get it with the pre-loaded Australia map? If so how do I do that?
    Thanks in Advance.

Ths model is sold with a licence installed for the region of purchase, you would have to buy a licence from Route 66 to use any other maps.
You should be able to install the Australian maps from the software supplied with the phone on the DVD, and then you can activate it buying a licence to activate it through the "Extras" selection in the Options menu in the Route 66 software.

  • HP Split X2 upgraded from Windows 8 pre-loaded to Win 8.1, now cannot run Add feature to Windows 8.1

    Hi!
i have purchased a HP Split X2 13.3" laptop in a computer show slightly more than 1 year ago.
it comes with Windows 8 pre-loaded at that time.
Later on, Microsoft offer free upgrade for all Win 8 to Win 8.1 and i did that as well.
Everything goes perfectly smooth unless recently when i try to go Control Panel run Add Feature to Windows 8.1,
it ask me for product key!!
When i looked the bottom of my Split X2 laptop, it does not have the sticker of the Windows product key. There is only 1 Windows 8 hologen sticker! Hence, i use some key finder application to detect the product key.
I enter the product key when i run Add Feature to Win 8.1 again, but the Windows prompted me key is not valid.
    Why?
The Win8.1 insalled is genuine version. I can perform regular Windows updates without issue.
Appreciate if any expert can help to resolve my issue.

    Hi
The Add Feature is to upgrade your current Windows 8/8.1 Core Edition to Windows 8/8.1 Pro or Windows 8/8.1 Media Center Edition.
It requires you to purchase particular Product key with regard to Add Features option.
