CP5: Scoring and Quiz Result Slides for Selected Questions

Hello World,
I am trying to create a course that has several "knowledge checks" that don't need to be scored or tracked, and then a 10 question quiz at the end that needs to be scored and tracked.
Does anyone know of a way to separate those two elements so that the Quiz Results slide does not include any of my "knowledge check" data and just gives the user details of the 10 question quiz? I would also like to use the progress bar, but only for the final 10 questions.
Alternatively, if the quiz result screen separated out the results of the knowledge checks from the quiz, that would work as well.
Thanks,
Graham

Hello,
If you use the Question slides that come with Captivate, all the slides will be added to the total score because you can only have one Quiz in a CP-file.
Some ideas: you could set the score of the first (not te be tracked) slides to 0, or if possible change the questions from scored to survey (will not be scored).
If by Progress you mean the indication 'Question X of Y', there you will need to make your own counters, with user variables and advanced actions. If you want to have total control of your question slides you could create the first bunch of questions yourself and only use the default Question slides for the real last Quiz. Just published a blog post today with some links to articles about customizing Quizzes. Feel free to check it:

  • Is there a way to change the formulas for the fields of the Quiz Results slide?

I see the placeholders for the fields on the Quiz Results Slide (Number of Questions = {total-questions}).  Is there a way to view and change those calculations?

You can select which variables appear on the Quiz Results slide, but you cannot really change the calculations used by Captivate under the hood.
Depending on what you're trying to achieve, you might be able to insert your own captions reading off the same variables and use Advanced Actions and Expressions to cook up different results.  But it depends very much on what you want to do and whether or not the variables are exposed, and whether or not the limited Expressions available will allow the math.

  • Custom success and failure messages on quiz results slide

I'm trying to create a custom success and failure message on the quiz results slide, using certain colours in the text caption to reflect our company's brand. So I've added an advanced action on entering the slide so that if the quiz percentage is 80% or more, the success message shows, and the failure message hides. It seems that this should work, but for some reason, only the failure message displays, regardless of whether I fail or pass. Has anyone else tried this with any success?
    Thanks for your help!

I've changed the retake and continue buttons to image buttons, then added my custom success and failure captions which I've named 'fail_f' and 'pass_f':
And here is my advanced action on entering the quiz results slide:
The hide-button, is a white rectangle that I added so that I could place it over the retake button if they passed the quiz successfully.

  • How do I stop background fading on Quiz Results slide

    Hi
I'm using Captivate 6 and having a whole heap of problems creating a quiz using question pools. First one - how do I stop the background fading away on the Quiz results slide? The background is from a master slide and the results slide has the settings in the screenshot attached
I've tried moving changing the length on the timeline, but this then makes the Continue button unclickable for ages. The background fades once it is clickable in Preview mode (see screenshot below)

    Hello,
Please go that Master Slide and click on that image and under Properties Inspector check the "Transition" option
It should not be "Fade In" or "Fade Out", it should be "No Transition" :
    Hope this helps !!
    Thanks,

  • Continue Button on Quiz Results Slide NOT Working Properly

I'm experiencing a functionality issue with the "Continue"
button on the Quiz Results slide:
Situation 1: After initially completing the quiz, I need to
click the "Continue" button on the Quiz Results slide only once to
advance to the next (and last) slide in the quiz movie. This is
fine & works as I would expect.
Situation 2: After initially completing the quiz, if instead
I choose to review the quiz, later when I get to the Quiz Results
slide, I need to click the "Continue" button TWICE to advance to
the next (and last) slide in the quiz movie. This does NOT work as
    I would expect.
Any idea why only 1 click is needed in the Situation 1 while
2 clicks are needed in Situation 2? Any way to fix Situation 2 so
that only 1 click is needed?
    Thanks much!

    CapManZ,
Whether the Continue button on the Quiz Results slide
requires one or two clicks is mysterious indeed. See
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=67&catid=464&threadid =1302278
for another discussion about its misbehavor.
Actually, the number of clicks required depends on how long
you wait after the Quiz Results slide appears, prior to clicking
the Continue button. In your situation 1 you probably answered
questions rather than using the skip button, so you viewed the
question slides for a while prior to arriving at results. In your
situation 2 you probably used the Skip button to zip through the
slides to return to the results screen. Try this. In situation 2,
when you get to the Quiz Results slide, instead of clicking the
Continue button, go get a cuppa joe and then see if a single click
will work. If so please let me know.
I've experimented with a Captivate 2 multiple choice quiz in
a slide show that contained only 10 questions and the Results
slide. I added a text caption with fade in and fade out enabled
(the default) to the Results slide. I found that after the caption
fades in, one click on the continue button advances the slide. So I
used the caption's appearance to help measure the timing.
In the tests below I skipped as rapidly as possible, pausing
at various slides to see how it affected the single click
    threshold.
    Skip all slides: 28 sec
View slide 1 for 60 sec and then skip: 28 sec
Skip to slide 5, pause 30 sec, and then skip: 13 sec
Skip to slide 10, pause 30 sec, and then skip: 2-3 sec
Answer each slide (took more than 30 sec): 2-3 sec
Skip all slides, click Continue as fast as possible: 2-3 sec
I also reduced the number of question slides in the quiz and
    skipped all slides.
    7 questions: 18 sec
    3 questions: 7 sec
I believe the threshold value (the duration required before
clicking the Continue button advances to the next slide) is
composed of two durations which add together to determine the
threshold. The Result's slide's timeline probably sets the
threshold's lower limit. Clicks prior to 3 seconds are ignored.
Time per slide and number of slides left to go sets the upper limit
for the threshold. The slower the movement, the lower the
    threshold.
    Several conclusions:
This probably isn't a situation in which the first click is
ignored. Instead the first click reduces the threshold's value to
the lower limit. The second click would then typically occur after
3 additional seconds, particularly if the user is surprised that
the first click didn't work and pauses slightly. A very fast
additional click on the Continue button is ignored as well.
Long quizzes will cause more complaints about the issue
because of what you experienced. It typically takes longer to
answer the quiz than review it.
Perhaps there's a workaround that would alert the user that
the Continue button is ready for clicking. I'm thinking that since
the text caption fade-in coincides with being ready to continue, an
image or the like might do the trick. Any suggestions out there?
Humm, a better alternative might be to show some images of
snacks on the results slide background. Through suggestive selling,
the user realizes it's time for a break and clicks Continue after
returning with that cuppa joe. And the sound you hear? It's the
Captivate developers giggling if they read my conclusions. Too bad
they're mum, since some real info might make it easier to make
    Captivate behave. Ah well.

  • Continue button on Quiz Results Slide not working Captivate 7

I have the Quiz Settings set to Continue when the user passes the quiz. However, when the user clicks the Continue button on the Quiz Results Slide, nothing happens. I want the user to be able to continue to the next (and final!) slide in the project. The timing for the Quiz Results slide is set to be active for 7 seconds. Umm, suggestions for a fix? Thanks. This problem has been driving me nuts since I'm so close to finishing!

I changed the timing on the results slide back down to being active for 1.5 seconds so that's what will show up in the screen shot below. I also included a screen shot for the Pass/Fail settings. Thanks.

  • Continue button on Quiz Result slide not working

    Hi,
I really hope there's something easy I'm missing here. I've
created a quiz with 25 questions. I don't have it reporting to an
LMS, but I do have a quiz results slide. If the student gets a
passing grade, I've set the Continue button to go to the next slide
(where they get a congrats message and can print a certificate).
I'm publishing it as an SWF file. When I take the quiz and pass it,
the Continue button doesn't work. The way it is now, students are
stuck at the end of the quiz. Any ideas?

    Hi J
Sorry that didn't seem to work for you. Hopefully someone
else will see it and maybe chime in with a suggestion.
Until that happens, you (as well as anyone else seeing this
behavior) should report it to Adobe as a bug.

  • It will not let me edit the quiz result slides length.

I need to edit the length of time that the quiz results page is on the screen. It will not let me edit it. Also the continue button does not work.

The Quiz Results slide will always pause and there's no way to prevent that.  Look at its timeline and you can see a faint vertical line that indicates the pause point.  You can use your mouse to move this sideways and delay the pause untill objects enter the timeline.  But the rest of the slide beyond that pause point will only play once you click the Continue button.  If you have set a very long duration for the Quiz Results slide, then once you click Continue, what you see as the Continue button not working could just be the timeline continuing to play until it reaches the end of the slide.  Watch the scrub bar on the playback bar to see if it's moving.
Once the slide is paused the user has to click one of the buttons on that slide to move elsewhere.  If your Continue button is not working, the usual reason is that you have the Quiz > Settings > Required option set to something that will prevent the learner from moving beyond the Quiz Results slide until they fulfil some kind of requirement (e.g. answer all questions or pass the quiz).  So check that setting.

  • Can I delete Quiz Results slide in CP7?

    Hi
I am using CP 7.0.1.237. I have read that this cannot be done in CP6.
Is there a way to delete the Quiz Results slide in CP7 atleast? I know I can hide it. But I prefer deleting.
    Sreekanth

No, it will always be hidden, unless you delete all the question slides, that is the only situation in which you can delete the score slide. Why bother about that? If you publish, hidden slides are not included in the published version.

  • Results slide showing all question pool results not just the ones completed.

I have several question pools which have the option to be taken independently or separately.
If the user does not take all seven of the modules then the quiz results slide at the end is incorrect as it will report all of the questions not just the ones attempted.
I have tried the Branch aware option in the quiz results option but that did not worth.
It this an easy fix or does it require me to add a variable count for each correct answer.
    Many thanks
    Rick

Branch aware should be just fine for that case, why do you tell it is not working? Branch Aware Quiz - Captivate blog
When you say 'score slide is not reporting correctly', I had no such problems.
You could create a custom score slide indeed, using variables, but what if you have to report as a SCORM? Only possibility in that case is Branch aware.

  • Issues with reporting and quiz results analyzer

First issue: If a user skips a question, the question they've skipped doesn't appear in the QRA. It simply replaces the slide with the next one.
Example: User answers slide 5, skips 6, answers 7.
When viewing the results, slide 7 becomes slide 6, and all subsquent slides are off by one number.
Second issue: I am unable to update to the latest quiz results analyzer. I download directly from the Update built in QRA, or from adobe site's directly, both result in a corrupt package error. I've tried downloading and installing on numerous computers, but all of them give an error. Can anyone confirm the package isn't any good coming from Adobe?
Third: At the end of the quiz the user is asked for their email address. But unless its in the latest QRA there is no place to view their email address they've entered. How can I view the email address they've entered, or simply remove that question from the end of the exam?
Those are the main issues I've noticed so far when using Captivate. Of course the forum search is down, and has been for some time now so I can't search for these answers, so if anyone has them for me, thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Thanks for trying out Quiz Results Analyzer!!!
First issue: If a user skips a question, the question they've skipped doesn't appear in the QRA. It simply replaces the slide with the next one.
Whenever a user skips a question, the data for that question does not even get added to the final reports. This behavior is same as the behavior of several LMS. And that is the reason, why the reports for a skipped question do not appear in Quiz Results Analyzer.
Second issue: I am unable to update to the latest quiz results analyzer.
Yet, there is no update pushed from Adobe for Quiz Results Analyzer. So, you can be sure that you are using the latest version of Quiz Results Analyzer.
Third: At the end of the quiz the user is asked for their email address. But unless its in the latest QRA there is no place to view their email address they've entered. How can I view the email address they've entered, or simply remove that question from the end of the exam?
The email-id entered at the end of the quiz is just for distinguishing the results of students. Currently, there is no way to view the email-id of students using Quiz Results Analyzer.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Continue button on Quiz Results slide not working...

    Hi there,
Having some significant difficulties in Captivate 3 recently
    - but this one appears to be a deal breaker...
The continue button which appears at the bottom of the quiz
results page doesn't work - as in, it doesn't do a thing even
though in preferences I've set pass/fail preference for it to jump
to different slides depending on success or failure. I have tried,
literally, everything I can think of but it refuses to work.
Anyone got any suggestions? I would be over the moon if I
    could get this working.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Dynamit Quiz Results Slide Messages

I have a quiz that gives two attempts to pass.  At runtime execution, if you fail the first attempt, the results page says "Failed, click retake".  If the user fails the retake it says "You failed the retake, close window.".  If the user closes the SCO and re-opens it, bookmarking kicks in and they're brought immediately to the Quiz Results page, BUT.......my dynamic text box messages are all garbled (they all appear at the same time).
Since re-launching the SCO makes the SCO player think it's "attempt 1" all over again, what kind of conditional messages / variables can I use to essentially hide the original dynamic messages, but display a third message basically saying "Here are your results, you have no further attempts allowed" ?

Figured it out myself.  If you relaunch the SCO and bookmarking is involved for failures, you're executing Quiz Attempt = 0.  Based on that, I can make my third dynamic statement!

  • Three Physical Samples withdraw from inspection lot 04  and then result record for all three

    Dear Gurus,
We have 3 quality labs and each lab is sent a separate samples to inspect certain characteristics once we receive material from production. I have created an inspection plan and mapped these three labs as  work center in operation and then assigned MICs under each operation to inspect.
Now my issue is how to map separate 3 samples to inspection lot generated from production  ( type-4) and also how to configure that to inspection plan.
I have to result record for all these three physical sample as withdrawn from Lot based upon inspection plan as mentioned above.
I can mention sample drawing procedure in inspection plan but how to map actual sample there.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Satish

    Hi Satish
You are creating three operation for depicting three testing Labs.
Against each lab (operation) you had assigned MICs as per your requirement.
Now you have to assign a SDP along with inspection point type 200 for physical sample in task list.
After prod confirmation system will create inspection lot along with a sample by default for 1st operation.
For other operations you have to create samples manually referring the same inspection lot (QPR6).Remember to click ' Create Insp points' and mention operation.
    Release the samples in QPR4.
Now when you go for result recording system would ask first for operation, so select the operation , then system will ask for insp point (sample no). There click on assign insp point , so system will provide the Sample no which were created in QPR6 for that particular operation.
Please follow the steps and revert.

i dropped my iphone and n ow it wont work ...i restroe it and recharged itand it still wont slide for me ....touchscreen is messed up.....everything else ok though???????

Did the reset process work? Have you seen the Apple Logotype after pressing the Home/Sleep button?
If that does not work, I'd suggest to restore iPhone. If even it does not work, your iPhone may need service.
