CP5 Trail Version: Published files not playing

HI
I have been evaluating CP5 and published a file to show to my collegues.
Placing the published HTM and SWF file on a network drive or as an email attachment to share with the others and they don't work.
They work for me if the files are on my pc but don't if I try to access them from a network drive.
So the question is, is the trail version  crippled so that the published files can only be played on the PC that they were published on? Or have I done something wrong in the publishing process?
I can't seem to find any reference to the files being crippled.
Cheers
Craig

Hi Craig,
When you publish to SWF, Captivate outputs 3 files 1 htm file, 1 SWF file and 1 js file. On your desktop if you open the HTM file the content will open as it can see the SWF and JS files in the same folder.
If you are sending it as an email then zip the content  and in the destination machine unzip and launch the HTM. This should play the content.
If you are trying to access the files from a network location make sure all the 3 files are in the same folder and you have read permissions to the folder

  • HELP....AVCHD / MPEG files not playing correctly!

I have been trying to download video that was shot with the new Sony FS100 camera that I'm told are AVCHD or MPEG files to my older Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 timeline, but they are not playing correctly. When I reverse the field dominance, the image plays better but the sound is strange (I was able to speed the sound to 450% and it worked better, but then the balance of the sound from the clip is lost somewhere.).
Any suggestions to make these files play and work correctly? I tried converting them to AVI files but that showed up completely black on the timeline! Anything I've tried either affects the video or audio negatively!  I try either makes the image play or stutterThis was shot in regular SD format, NOT HD, so they should be able to play on  a standard timeline. Can anyone suggest anything to help please? Much appreciated!

Thanks for your reply, I ran it through Media Info. Here are the results:
    Container & general information:
    MPEG-PS: 290 Mib  4min22s
    1 Video stream: MPEG video
    1 Audio stream: AC-3
    First Video Stream:
8833 Kbps, 720*480 (4:3), at 29.970 fps, MPEG video (NTSC) (version 2) (Main@main) (Custom Matrix BVOP)
    First Audio Stream:
    256 Kpbs, 48.0 Khz, 16 bits, 2 channels, AC-3 (DVD-Video)
Please let me know where to go from here. Thanks so much!

  • Inserted FLV files not playing in a published project.

The issue: Inserted FLV files display (play) when previewing a project but not in a published project.
My setup: Windows XP and Captivate 5
    Questions:
       1) When in Filmstrip view only the movie playback bars show, not an image of the actual movie, is this correct?
       2) When I preview a project for the first time, the FLV files display (play) in Preview mode, HOWEVER, any time I preview the project after that, the movies do not play.
       3) When I publish a project, the inserted FLV files do not display (play), they only show the movie playback bars.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah, all the files are in the same directory.

  • Fairplay Version 2 protected files not playing

Recently got a 32gig 3rd generation Touch and noticed some older music and videos I bought through iTunes won't play. Videos say they cannot be played. Music just refuses to start, if I press play it pauses itself. Newer music and videos bought through iTunes store and my own recordings work fine.
The only thing that everything that won't play has in common is that under info they list "Fairplay Version: 2" Everything that does not list a Fairplay version will play. Wikipedia says that Fairplay is the old protection Apple used to use. I can upgrade the songs through iTunes to the non protected version (for $.30 each), but I can't seem to fix the videos.
3rd gen Touches don't recognize Apples old DRM? Can this be fixed? Anyone else notice this?

I am having the same problem with AppleTV and Itunes not playing Fair Play version 2 content after upgrading to Windows 7 So far Support for the ITunes store has not come up with a solution. I am very concerned since I have a significant amount of content that is affected by this problem. I haven't checked yet whether my Ipod's will play this content but will now. However, rebuying the content as the earlier post suggests is not an option since the content affected - TV seasons - equates to roughly $500 in purchases.

  • Some avi-files not playing on QuickTime Pro 7.0.4

I tried to play a few avi-file movies using QuickTime Pro 7.0.4 on my Mac OS X 10.4.4, but unfortunately, I keep getting the message: "Some necessary QuickTime software is missing. It may be available on the QuickTime Web site." After going on that site, I downloaded some of the available free software, but the problem remains. Playing the movies with a third-application like the VLC, works fine. I wish QuickTime Pro would have the same capabilities in playing avi files like other Players. Do you have an idea how I can solve the problem?
    Thanks for your support!

Thanks for all your help guys. I guess I will remain with the VLC for playing AVI files that donnot play on the QT Player as the VLC plays almost any movie file. I came across an interesting article regarding the subject:
    QuickTime: About Playing .AVI Files
Learn why an .AVI file may not play as expected in QuickTime Player.
AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave. The .AVI format is what is known as a container format. It specifies a way in which a file may contain audio and video data. It does not specify how that data is encoded. The encoding of audio and video data is specified in what are known as codecs. A codec (short for COmpressor/DECompressor) tells the computer how to decode the audio and video tracks that have been encoded within the .AVI file. QuickTime Player can use numerous codecs by default. You can also add additional codecs to extend QuickTime's features using plug-ins or third-party installations.
When QuickTime opens an .AVI file, it checks to see which codecs were used to encode the audio and video tracks within it. For example, an .AVI file may contain a video track encoded in the Cinepak codec and an audio track encoded with the ALaw 2:1 codec. If both the audio and the video were compressed using a codec that QuickTime can use, the file will play normally. If the audio or video or both were created using codecs that QuickTime cannot use, you may see a message like the following:
"QuickTime is missing the software needed to perform this operation. Unfortunately, it is not available on the QuickTime server"
    or
"You may experience problems playing a video track in "filename.avi" because the required compressor could not be found."
These messages are not an indication that anything is wrong with QuickTime Player.
Lists of audio and video codecs included with and supported by QuickTime are available from the QuickTime specifications page.
Using QuickTime Player, you may be able to determine which codec was used to compress an audio or video track:
    QuickTime 6 and earlier
Open the file in QuickTime Player.
From the Movie menu, choose Get Movie Properties.
From the left pop-up menu in the Properties window, choose Sound Track or Video Track.
From the right pop-up menu, choose Format. The Format section shows the codec.
    QuickTime 7
Open the file in QuickTime Player.
From the Window menu, choose Show Movie Info. The codec is listed next to Format.
If the .AVI file is encoded using a codec that is not included with QuickTime, you might be able to find and add that codec so QuickTime can play media encoded with it. Contact the party that publishes or distributes the codec to see if a QuickTime version is available. Many third-party QuickTime components are available on the QuickTime components page.

  • Why does the audio in my .SWF file not play in a Browser?

I created an .swf file using ffmpeg, containing H.264 video and MP3 audio. The file plays perfectly in VLC but  not in a Browser (Chrome/IE). I tried analyzing the file using a trial version of Flash decompiler. Again, only the video plays. The strange thing is that if I extract the MP3 from the file, it plays perfectly using any of th eplayers. It seems to be a muxing issue which VLC apparently handles, but not the player in the browser! Why? Thanks for any pointers.

Yeah. Sorry to say this but many people buy the various brands of format converters, which are everywhere on the Web and which also spam these boards – and often find they are not only out the purchase price but that the app created as many problems as it solved.

  • Protected AAC music/files not playing or appearing in iTunes purchases

Any purchases which I made from itunes during 2007/08 which were protected AAC files will no longer play on my pc (nor download to my ipod).  I get multiple 'This computer is not authorised to play....Would you like to authorise it?' When I authorise it, it tells me that 'This computer is already authorised (2 out of 5)'.  But the track will not play and again asks for authorisation. The tracks that will not play are all 'Fairplay version 2'. I thought about deleting them and downloading them again as I understand that Apple no longer encripts files, but they do not appear in my previous purchases in my itunes account (no purchases before 2011 appear?) - so I assume that I cannot download them again. So i have the tracks in my library, the 'info' says that they are registered to my itunes account, but it seems that because they are encripted I cannot play them.  Help please!!

I am having what seems to be the same problem as Julie described. After purchasing an album on itunes, I created a CD-R disk that will play on the computer but not on any of several players I tried. The CD shows (Get info) each tune to be an MP-4. In ITunes...the tracks are shown as AAC protected...I don't know the difference.
It appears Julie solved the problem by your suggestion to go to iTunes preferences...I tried that Pref>Advanced>Burning>and selected Audio CD and burned a second disk....actually I didn't change anything because my preferences were already set that way.
I would never buy anything else from iTunes that I cannot play on my home system. this has been a frustrating matter and I guess what I am asking is there a pausible solution?
    To your questions:
Play on home CD player: message: No audio...although the Cd plays on the computer ok.
    Media used: Memorex CD-R
Brand of players: Sony DVD player 1.5 years old & Cyberhome 1 year
    Operating System 10.3.9
    iTunes 5.xx
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
    thanks,

Is this a Yosemite issue? Not being able to play older QuickTime 7 files properly? I'm not sure what else the issue could be since everything seems to work fine in 10.7, 10.8, and 10.9 (unfortunately, I have been unable to test this in 10.10 or 10.10.1). Maybe I'm overcomplicating a simple issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some very interesting observations which peaked my own curiosity due to on-again, off-again nature of the playback. I suspect this is either a "bug" or represents content handling changes that are currently in the process of  "evolving." Not a web site programmer so I used iWeb to run some contrast-comparison tests on how audio was handled by the plug-in software when directly accessing the content by its URL and via the page embed strategies. My results mirrored yours in that:
    1) All legacy codecs tested (A-Law, IMA, QDM2, QPV, and u-Law) in an MOV file container played correctly in the QT 7 player.
    2) The same files all played correctly when content was accessed by the plug-in software directly using the URL reference.
    3) None of the files containing legacy audio compression formats would play audio using the plug-in software using a web page embedding strategy.
    4) An MP4 (H.264/AAC) version of you original clip played correctly in all instances.
    5) Replacing your QDM2 audio track with an AAC audio track in the original MOV file allowed the file to play correctly in all instances.
Based on these observations, I suspect the problem is in the way the software is currently programmed to handle (or rather ignore) the embedded strategy content. However, as you indicated, it is probably time to update your files. Not only did the H.264/AAC version of your original file play in all instances, but it used less than 45% of the file space/bandwidth for the settings I employed as compared to your original "0706_split_brain_red.mov" original file.

  • Flash CC  sound files not playing

I have a mp3 file on a layer.   I stop the fla file abuout 20 seconds in, but when I click on the play button to continue, the mp3 files starts from the beginning, not from the current location.  What do I need to change so the sound file will play from its current location?  Thank you.

Rob,  I tried your recommendation,  it still will not sync.   I'm in the middle of my fla, and when I start from (ex. keyframe 500), the mp3 plays from the beginning (keyframe 1).  This issue is intermittent.  Some fla I have no issue, then others this problem happens.I end up using an older version of flash to do most of the work, then I complete the finishing parts in Flash CC.

I have one slide that the audio will not play unless the you click on the play button in preview or when published.  All other slide audios are working fine and will play automtically when the next button is clicked on the previous slide.  I have tried changing the name of the audio file, deleting the sled and the fiel and staring over etc.  the audio file were created in another program and then brought into Captivate but thia has not been a problem with any other production up to this point.  Any suggestions?

  • Podcast Audio Files Not Playing In Browser

I have a music podcast on my site, built by iWeb8. On my last podcast addition I published to folder and opened the site from the folder on my machine. Everything was fine except the browser would not play the MP3 files (VBR) of the podcast. I can open and play these files with quicktime but it does not work when viewing via the browser.
These files also play in iWeb.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

I think that everybody but Apple agrees that QuickTime is not the best way to play audio files on the internet.
The statistics show that over 90% of surfers have flash.
If you're having problems with Firefox, what chance have you got with IE?
iWeb '08 coverts your MP3 files to .MOV.
'09 seems to have addressed this issue.
I stopped using QT about a year ago. This simple flash player is easy to implement and has the advantage of buffering....

  • Swf file not playing in browser

I have a problem with a swf file which will not play in web browser.
It played fine until I updated my site. I therefore suspected a pathing issue within dreamweaver and looked thorugh that forum for an answer.
I tried typing the absolute path to the swf file in the browser address bar and found it straight away. When I clicked on it the screen stayed blank.
I checked the path to the file and the flv file was relative to the document and not the site.
swf plays fine in flash player, flash, and locally on dreamweaver.
I moved the swf up the file tree and changed the links accordingly but still would not play.
I also tried saving it as a new swf from flash, but that doesn't play either.
I added another swf to the containing folder and that played fine in the browser.
When I open the fla file in flash it only shows a flv playback movie, not the elements, I think this is because it was created in after effects.
Here is the link to the containing folder, the swf file is Home_page_movie_V2.swf
    http://www.joinerycadsolutions.com/Flash/01 Home
I have other swf files playing fine and this swf played ok originally so I still think it's a pathing problem but I am not that savvy on flash and cannot figure it out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, just bear in mind my low level of ability.
    Thanks
    Stuart

The .swf is loading just fine... but it is expecting to load a .flv video file.
The path inside the .swf to the .flv file is not correct. The path inside the .swf to the .flv file needs to be relative to the .swf as it's located on the Web page, NOT the physical location of the .swf.
Here is the absolute address of the .flv:
    http://www.joinerycadsolutions.com/Flash/01%20Home/Home%20V1.flv
Here is a test player using that address:
    http://www.cidigitalmedia.com/tutorials/flash/cidm_simple_vid_player.html
So unless your .swf is broken, it just a pathing issue.
    From an old post:
    Pathing issues
Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.

  • Local files not playing on Windows 8

If you've installed Windows 8 on your computer instead of the previous Windows 7, you may experience an issue where none of your local files will play.
First try reinstalling Spotify, installing Quicktime, deleting all the Local files and unchecking everything in Preferences related to Local Files. Finally, make sure the files are a supported file format.
We've also noticed that installing the Windows Media feature pack helped many users where the above suggestions did not. You can find the feature pack here:

If all you're missing is the required codec, there are plenty of free software offerings that will allow you to play DVDs - one example would be the application on the link below.

  • Embedded wav files not playing in IE7 after installing QT 7.3

I created a web page that uses javascript to play embedded wav files on an onclick event. I was having trouble with my Firefox browser not playing the wav files at all, so I thought I'd update from QT 7.1 to QT 7.3. This has caused my IE browser to stop playing the embedded files, and has not helped my Firefox browser, either. Uninstalling QT 7.3 does restore IE7's ability to play the embedded files. I'm using some simple popular Javascript for the function, and the page works for me in my home installation of Firefox, so I'm still mystified why the wav files won't play on my workplace Firefox (yes, I tried disabling all the other plugins, to no avail), and also, I need to fix IE7 now, as well. QuickTime Object is enabled in IE's add-ons list.
I did search all over the knowledge base here and at Firefox's site for solutions.
