CProjects Performance

Just a more general question about cProjects 4.0 performance. We are running on NW SP13 and cProjects SP09 and were expecting after the patches much better performance, however its still just not really acceptable. Do other users experience a decent amount of delay when navigating around in cProjects. Going from Information Tab to Information Tab, from Detail, to Table, to Graphic/Gantt View? Does the Gantt chart generally take 5-60 seconds to process a single change in task timing or adding relationships?
We've been on cProjects 4.0 for a while now and keep hearing that patches will make the tool faster or better and I have a hard time believing that cProjects really runs this slow for everyone else... It's borderline unacceptable for use in our implementation.

Well - the system is not much faster any longer. Not sure what has happened but we did some of our test procedures and the times are rather unacceptable. We will apply now SP10 in a few weeks - I hope that this helps. User acceptance is pretty much zip at this point.
Everyone else having similar results? Anyone find cProjects to be of an acceptable performance level? Our acceptance criteria was rather mild - 3.5 seconds average response time for processing (clicking on a button) with a maximum of 10 for a single processing - not to exceed overall 3.5 seconds avg still. We are not even close to this. On average, when a user enters a date into the table view, and hits enter, it takes about 50 seconds to process.
Ouch!

  • CProjects 4.0 performance - questionaire to compare implementations

    Hi All,
Just looking to get a comparison of performance of 4.0 installations. In my company, it is not going very well and if we don't see a major performance boost soon, I don't see that anyone will every use this tool. So, I have a simple list of activities to perform, just looking to get feedback from other 4.0 installations to see what the average times are for each of these activities - as a set of sample activities. I have posted in this also my avg. response times from the system. in [seconds]. We have done extensive Network and Server analysis and can really only link the slow performance back to the application itself... We are on SP9 currently.
Note: Our standard project template has about 290 tasks - this makes a major difference when changing information in the table view fully expanded - a typical way of working with the tool.
1.) Click on project from cProjects Project Dashboard, time how long from click until project is open [4.3s]
2.) Select the 'Project Element' (triangle) and click on the 'Expand Subtree' icon, time from click until it is fully expanded [4.6s]
3.) Once Tree is expanded, click on 'Table' view, time how long until Table View is completely loaded [8.5s]
4.) Change a role for a task and select 'TPL/System' from list, time how long it takes from the time you select the drop down until the time the system applies the Role. (Try this with a role that has staffing) [8.1s]
5.) Enter a start date (5a), hit enter and time how long it takes for the system to process it, do the same for a finish date (5b) [52s/50s]
6.) In the Table View still, select the side scroll bar and scroll (select and slide the scroll bar) to the bottom of the table, time how long it takes for the system to process the request. [8.4s]
7.) Click on the Gantt Chart (while in Table View and tree expanded), time how long until the Gantt Chart is completely loaded [37s]
8.) In Gantt Chart, select a task (F55 PCIS) and move the bar over 3 days and release, time how long it takes from the time you release to the time the system is completed processing [16s]
9.) Go Back to Detail View and select a task, from basic data, change the Status from Released to In Process, time how long it takes for the system to finish processing [9.8s]
10.) Go to the documents tab, create a new document and use the attached file in this email to attach. Put 'Test' in for description and time how long it takes for the system to finish processing the attachment [9.5s]
11.) Under Resources Tab, select a Role, select the 'Staffing' tab. put a resource number (any) into the resource field and click 'Staff', time how long it takes to process the staffing [4.8s]

    > I made a report zreport_2 & executed both of them in background simultaneously to compare the time
this was really no good idea.
If you insert anything to the database, then you get a dump, if you try to times the same.
Even if you don't change anything then the parallel processing will not show anything the only try to get the resources.
You must execute them onne by one.
Run traces of both executions, execute every version at least three times (first one more expensive, second and third similar otherwise repeat)
    SQL trace:
    /people/siegfried.boes/blog/2007/09/05/the-sql-trace-st05-150-quick-and-easy
    SE30
    /people/siegfried.boes/blog/2007/11/13/the-abap-runtime-trace-se30--quick-and-easy
The SE30 shows everything what was going on, the SQL trace only the db part.
Check the summary by SQL statements, this is small, and youi can compare both executions by hand.
The SE30 hitlist is large, but there is a tool to compare then, see here:

  • Resource planning in cprojects with xRPM or MRS?

    Dear Experts,
To my understanding there are four options to perform resource planning in combination with cprojects:
    1.     Do a planning in cprojects only
    2.     Use resource planning application (RPA) from SAP CRM
    3.     Schedule resources with xRPM
    4.     Schedule resources with SAP MRS (Multi Resource Scheduling)
I have a couple of questions:
    (a) Is it correct that I cannot assign resources to project roles in xRPM based on qualification matching? Is it right that xRPM is used rather for a long-term view to define the available capacity of projects/roles than assigning specific resources to roles?
    (b) How can help SAP MRS in comparison to option 1 (planning in cprojects)? I assume that I can do also in cprojects itself a qualification matching. MRS provides a more detailed qualification object to cover complex requirements, right? What else provides MRS what cannot be managed in cprojects itself?
(c ) If we want to use a staffing process were project lead and resource manager doing the staffing and have the option to suggest or reject roles, we have the option to use xRPM or MRS, right? What are the differences? In MRS we have options like using several resource managers, softbooking/hardbooking or itu2019s possible to define the workflow who proposes resources and who is doing the final staffing (project lead or staffing manager), reasons for rejections can be configured etc. Are these options in xRPM available as well?
    Thanks,
    Angie

    Hi Angie,
I have not implemented MRS or RPA so can only answer your first question. You cannot do a resource search via qualification in Portfolio Management (aka xRPM), typically you would do this in Project Management (aka cProjects) and this functionality works fine provided you have maintained qualification data for BP's and roles. Portfolio Management financial planning function can be used for a long term view as you have mentioned. However, it is also typically used to summarize and/or roll up resource demand / assignment to a bucket or portfolio level or summarize resources for multiple projects via initiatives or collections. You can also use a top down approach and at a high level plan values at the bucket level (i.e. forecasted demand or business case demand) and compare against detailed planned / assigned demand rolled up from project management.
    Hope this helps.

    Lashan

  • How can I perform a bulk assignment to one Task

    Hi All,
I would like to allow all resources to assign some of their time to a cProjects Task (XXXX Implementation plan). How can I perform a bulk assignment to this task, instead of performing individual assignments?
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Srini

Not quite sure I fully understand your question. When you go to the "roles" tab of a task you are allowed to assign multiple resources to a task either from the same role or different roles. The total work or effort for the task can be distributed accross the multiple assignments.

  • CProjects 4.0 - SAP R/3 4.7 - Accounting Integration problem.

    Dear all,
I have performed all steps necesaary for accounting integration in cProjects and SAP R/3 FI System.
I can even see and assign the cost rate that I have created in cProjects to a project role.
System also calculates the  cost for the role multiplyin the cost rate with the number of hours the resource has been assigned.
However, it also displays the following warning messages:
    1. An error occurred in Accounting (system QASCLNT777)
    2. Function module "IAOM_CPRO_MISC_RFC_CPDEF_CHECK" not found.
    3. No cost center could be determined for organizational unit 00000000
    4. Maintain a revenue element for cost/revenue rate ZZ_000001
    5. Error occurred in accounting - check the costing in the ERP system
When I execute the transaction COCPCPR in R/3 system, I cannot see the internal order, but see the project name under "Internal Orders not created"
    Regards,
    Reema.

Hi reema, if we refer to the documentation pertaining to accounting integration for cProjects 4.0, we see that the prerequisities is ECC 6.0
Please see below from the help documentation
    Integration
To be able to use the functions of accounting integration, you have to implement the Internal Orders (CO-OM-OPA) application component and Project System (PS) in SAP ECC 6.0.
    Prerequisites
You need to make a number of Customizing settings in both the Collaboration Projects and SAP ECC Implementation Guides (IMG):
Settings in the Collaboration Projects IMG
You selected the Controlling in mySAP ERP setting in Customizing for Collaboration Projects under Connection to External Systems ® Accounting Integration ® Activate Integration as the Accounting Integration Scenario.
I feel the error messages are thrown because you are using SAP R/3 4.7.  I see from the SAP notes, for CATS integration with cProjects 4.0 and SAP R/3, SAP consulting is available, but nothing is mentioned for accounting integration.

  • RPM Project Upload Performance

    Hi,
We are using RPM for the first time and users are noticing very slow performance when uploading projects into the system.  It is taking approx 20 minutes to upload 150 projects.  We are on RPM 4.5 with BW 7.00.  We don't have cProjects installed.  I have two questions around this:
    1)  What are the speeds of uploads that other people are seeing?
    2)  Is there anything we can do to speed up our uploads?  It does not take any length of time for one particular step but each project is going through numerous reads/inserts to create the project.

  • Strange legacy data migration problem to SAP CProjects

    Dear all,
I am new to CProjects and currently working on migrating legacy data to CProjects through XML. I am facing some strange problems when migrating project data with multiple phases. If the project already exists in Cprojects, the XML import transaction hangs indefinitely and a timeout exception is thrown. While on the other hand, if I upload a new project (with same set of phases), it is readily imported without any problems.
       Kindly help!
      Thank you all!

    Hi Vivek,
If the project already exists, the system creates a simulation from the imported data. You then need to move the simulation to your operational project by performing a reconcilliation. You can't simply overwrite an operational project via an import.
I have included some links below from SAP help which may help (cProjects 3.1).

  • CProjects object link greyed out in DMS

    Hi Everyone,
We have cProjects 4.5 setup in our environment. The RFC connections to SAP DMS have been established. DIR's of all 'Document Types' can be assigned to a project successfully.
Now,in DMS, for a DIR XYZ,'cProjects Elements' object link has been established. However, when we attempt to add a Element in cProject Elements, the netire section gets greyed out and a message is displayed as follows.
" Object link to DPR_OBJLNK cannot be changed in this transaction,Message no. 26321 ". Its understood that linking cannot be performed from CV0*n transactions. In that case, from where would this feature be enabled?
    Regards,
    Pradeepkumar Haragoldavar

    Hi.
    we have the same problem.
SAP ECC 6.0 on client 300, cProject on client 400, RFC connection established.
From cProject we can link DMS documents to tasks.
But, in DMS we can't see the link to the cProject task (object DPR_OBJLNK).
Is it possibile to see cProject tasks linked from the DMS documents ?
Is it possible to link cProject tasks directly from DMS documents ?
    Thanks.

  • Unable to search by responsibility in cProjects 3.0 after BP re-set

    Dear Forum,
We are using cProjects 3.0 and had trouble with a user showing up properly as a resource in a cproject template.  I deleted the user, business partner  and re-set him up again from scratch.
He is now unable to see any of his previously submitted projects when searching from the web client using his name in the responsibility area.  Also the projects he saved as favorites do not show up.
Is there a way to correct this?

  • Slow cProjects phase extractors

We extract attribute and text deltas for projects, phases, tasks, etc. from cProjects every night.  The project and task extractors run very quickly (less than one minute) but the phase extractors run for 45 minutes or more.
The phase attributes DataSource is called 0DPR_PHASE_ATTR and the text DataSource is 0DPR_PHASE_TEXT.  Project and task DataSources are named similarly.
I traced the phase text extractor with our Oracle DBA and he concluded that the SQL statements being executed are not that bad, but the problem seems to be that they are executed over and over.
When I looked at the extractor code I noticed that the phases are SELECTed inside a LOOP on projects, so that fits with what the trace showed.  For reference, the extract logic is performed inside class CL_DPR_EXTRACT_TEXT method READ_PHASE_TEXT.
I found SAP note <a href="https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/993786">993786</a> that sort-of dances around this issue, but rather than provide a fix it just puts pseudo-comments in the code to prevent the SELECT inside of a LOOP from being reported as an error in the Code Inspector.
Theoretically, I'd think the task extractors should be even worse, since they have to take both projects and phases into account, but oddly they have great performance.  Their extractor also does a SELECT inside of a LOOP but the duration is much shorter for each SELECT.
    We're running cProjects 3.0 on AIX/Oracle.
Here's the execution plan from the trace:
    SELECT STATEMENT ( Estimated Costs = 161 , Estimated #Rows = 90 )
5  8 TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID CGPL_TEXT
    5  7 NESTED LOOPS
                 ( Estim. Costs = 161 , Estim. #Rows = 90 )
    5  5 NESTED LOOPS
                     ( Estim. Costs = 134 , Estim. #Rows = 90 )
5  2 TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID CGPL_PROJECT
                         ( Estim. Costs = 116 , Estim. #Rows = 90 )
    1 INDEX RANGE SCAN CGPL_PROJECT~0
                             ( Estim. Costs = 92 , Estim. #Rows = 18,069 )
                             Search Columns: 1
5  4 TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID CGPL_HIERARCHY
    3 INDEX UNIQUE SCAN CGPL_HIERARCHY~0
                             ( Estim. Costs = 1 , Estim. #Rows = 1 )
                             Search Columns: 2
    6 INDEX RANGE SCAN CGPL_TEXT~0
                     ( Estim. Costs = 2 , Estim. #Rows = 1 )
                     Search Columns: 2
    Any ideas?

An index on table 0CGPL_HIERARCHY on fields CLIENT, UP, and TASK_LEVEL worked like magic.  The two cProjects phase extractors now run in less than 20 seconds, where they were consistently running for about 75 minutes.  The cProjects hierarchy extractor also runs in significantly less time.

  • CProjects Resource Management fails

We have a resource-management requirement which cProjects does not seem to satisfy. Your inputs...
    In our business scenario:
    - A Project Role may have a number of tasks to perform.
    - The same role may work on the same task across a number of time periods - say 5 days in January, another 3 days in Feb, 6 days in Apr. and so on.
How can we ensure that the resource is booked only for those dates when he is assigned to the tasks?
Staffing drives the resource availability, not the resource-task assignment. We can only staff a resource for an extended period of time, say Jan to Apr, for say, 14 days. But this does not help in our case because this only determines floating booking (14 days across 4 months), not the fixed booking for the days when he is actually assigned to the task(s).
Copy Staffing does not help our case because, when we use this, the system copies the entire set of tasks already assigned to the resource (including the ones which he need work more than once)
Nor does the system allow to staff the same role with the same resource more than once (except by "Copy Staffing", which does not solve the case).
Is there any way we can break the deadlock?

    Hi.
It is possible to split the role-task assignment into multiple rows with different start- and finnish dates  in the "Tasks Assigned to Selected Project Role Screen"
Not so nice to maintain but it could perhaps be way forward?
    Regards / Anders
    Ps.
By doing this you will also get the cost planning split according to the dates used.

  • Migrating cProject and cFolder into a single server instance

    Hi,
Has anyone had the experience to migrate cProjects and cFolderon seperated server instances into a single server instance? How data migration can be performed assuming cProjects server will be upgraded to 4.5 and the cFolders content will be ported over? is this something do-able? Or it is easier to upgrade cFolder first and migrate the cProjects data over?
Since documents link in cFolder/cProjects could be captured in transaction table, how to resolve it?
Would like to hear from anyone with such experiences... thank you.

    Hi,
Is your new server Unix based? Are you planning to have 2 separate instances with separate DBs or are you planning to do a MCOD? Can you more details on what you mean by "2 in 1"?

  • CProjects 4.0 - Project Search

    Hi,
There are quite a few ways we can search for project(s), task(s) etc. from the cProjects front end. We require to extend this. For e.g. the requirement is to have the search by a few more critera. By description, for e.g. Is this possible?
    Summary:
Can we have any more search criteria than the ones available ready made?
    Thanks and Regards

You can extend the search help with the enhancement in the IMG:
You can already search the text in the Project Name, this is standard. Searching the Description should be handled by TREX because of performance otherwise it would be too slow to use in a production environment.
Copied from the IMG, in case you don't have access to a system at the moment:
    "Enhance Search Help"
Use - In this IMG activity you can expand the search help for project definitions, phases, tasks, checklists, or checklist items, so that you can search for fields you defined yourself in customer includes.
    Activities
Create your own new append search help in the following collective search help:
    Object  Collective Search Help
    Project Definition  DPR_PROJECT
Copy one or more than one of the templates to create your elementary search help:
    DPR_CHKLST_H_GROUPING
    DPR_CHKLST_H_T_GROUPING
    DPR_CHKLST_I_GROUPING
    DPR_PHASE_GROUPING
    DPR_PROJECT_GROUPING
    DPR_TASK_GROUPING

  • CProjects Roles, HTTP Connection, RABAX_STATE error

    Hi All,
    1. Which are the standard cProjects Roles to be maintained ? Where we can have that list ?
    2. How to maintain or say configure the HTTP connection for cProjects (steps for doing it)?
    3. Getting the termination type error : RABAX_STATE, how to resolve it ?
    Points for userful information.
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi
Answer to your 1 question is given below
The following single roles are delivered with cProjects:
    SAP_CPR_PROJECT_ADMINISTRATOR     :Create projects (project definitions).
SAP_CPR_TEMPLATE_ADMINISTRATOR     :Create, change, read, and delete all templates in cProjects.
SAP_CPR_USER     :Use cProjects, but no authorization to perform any activities in a particular project. To do this users need project-specific authorizations, which can be distributed either directly or through their assignment to a role.
The following composite roles are delivered with cProjects:
SAP_CPR_DECISON_MAKER     :cProjects decision maker. Contains the role SAP_CPR_USER.
SAP_CPR_INTERESTED     :cProjects interested party. Contains the role SAP_CPR_USER.
SAP_CPR_MEMBER     :cProjects team member. Contains the role SAP_CPR_USER.
SAP_CPR_PROJECT_LEAD     :cProjects project manager. Contains the role SAP_CPR_PROJECT_ADMINISTRATOR and SAP_CPR_USER
SAP_CPR_TEMPLATE_RESPONSIBLE     :cProjects template responsible. Contains the roles SAP_CPR_TEMPLATE_ADMINISTRATOR and SAP_CPR_USER

  • CProjects 4.0 : Qualification search

    Hi all!
I have faced the problem of the resource search in the cProjects. There are several BPs with the appropriate roles and various qualifications from the qualification catalog. There is no WFD integration and the direct staffing process is used. But when l start the resource search there is no resources found. The latest package (SAPK-40009INCPRXRPM) is applied.
    What should I do, please?

    Hi Reema,
You absolutely right about the setting, but these settings turn on/off  the search functionality itself and nothing more.
In my case my user (user1)has zero result of the search, but if I log in with  another user (user2) - the search returns the result. In SU01 I have changed the the user role, authorization group, permissions etc in order to have the same setting for user1 and user2, but when user1 performs the search he gets just several resources while the user2 gets the full list.
Which additional settings influence on resource search? There is the latest CRPxXRPM  support package implemented.

I find the RMI/IIOP sections of the docs a little confusing or maybe just lacking a few "clear statements". I have a few specific questions: 1. What version of CORBA/IIOP do you support? Fully support? 2. Do you have your own ORB, or rely on the JDK?
