CPU are bundled patches, to apply such a patch you need to have latest OPatch i.e 10.2.0.3.4 or later and they cannot be applied using "apply" command instead the new command called "napply" should be used.
Read the patch README before doing the patching, it clearly mentions the OPatch reqt and the commands to be used.

  • Oracle 10.2.0.4 Patching Process - CPU vs Interim Patches

    Hi everyone,
We are getting ready to upgrade our AIX 5.2 - 64bit Oracle 10.2.0.2 systems to Oracle 10.2.0.4.
I noted that there was also a single CPU patch available (CPUOct2008_p7375644_10204_AIX5L.zip), as well as a large list of interim patches for 10.2.0.4.
I was wondering what other people do regarding their patching strategy for 10.2.0.4.
eg:  After you complete your 10.2.0.4 upgrade, do you:
    1.  Apply the CPU patch first and then all the interim patches
    2.  Apply all the interim patches first and the the CPU patch
    3.  Apply the CPU patch only
    4.  Apply the interim patches only
    5.  Its all too hard, so I don't apply any CPU or interim patches ... I hope for the best.
    6.  Migrate to MaxDB ... its much easier to patch.
    Interested in your feedback.
    Cheers

Oracle changed the CPU patches in 10.2.0.4
Now they are more "granular". it is divided in "molecules"
that way it is possible to install only one "part" of the CPU if there is a conflict.
I was aware of Oracles new approach for 10.2.0.4 of using the molecule patch concept.  I still feel uneasy with it given their past track record of patch conflicts.
For that reason, I'd install first all patches and then the CPU.
Have you done this?  Has anyone done this?  I wouldn't mind hearing from someone that has.
Regarding MaxDB, sorry I never used it
Your missing out on something wonderful.  Great database.
Hows this ... I'll apply all of the interim patches, and then the CPU patch on one of our project boxes early next week, and report back if there were any conflicts or issues.

  • Cpu jan 2010 patch for windows

    Hi All,
can i know the patch number for cpu jan 2010 patch set number for windows.
    kk

It depends on your version of Windows (2000,2003,2008, 32bit, 64bit, itanium, etc).
Your best bet is to view the My Oracle Support note for the Jan 2010 CPU (ID 986632.1) to find the correct patch number.

  • CPU July 2008

    Hi,
Oracle has released CPU July 2008 Patchset.
is it necesarry to apply those patches, So far since june 2007 system gone live, I did not apply any CPU Patches to my present 10.2.0.1 Instance.
    is it compulsary?

I also got an email from Oracle Suppor that.
The Critical Patch Update for July 2008 was released on July 15, 2008. Oracle strongly recommends applying the patches as soon as possible.
The Critical Patch Update Advisory is the starting point for relevant information. It includes the list of products affected, pointers to obtain the patches, a summary of the security vulnerabilities for each product suite, and links to other important documents. Supported products that are not listed in the "Supported Products and Components Affected" section of the advisory do not require new patches to be applied.
Also, it is essential to review the Critical Patch Update supporting documentation referenced in the Advisory before applying patches, as this is where you can find important pertinent information.
The Critical Patch Update Advisory is available at the following location:

  • April 2008 iMac 24" causes my house lights to flicker

I have an April 2008 version 24" iMac with 2.8 GHz processor. When the computer goes into what I call "display sleep" mode, any lights on the same circuit as the computer start flickering. By "display sleep," I mean that the computer is running but the display has shut off. If the computer goes into full sleep mode, no flicker. If the computer is on and running, my lights don't flicker either. This problem occurs with both incandescent and fluorescent bulbs.
I had a program called "Shades" running to dim the display below its lowest setting, but the problem occurs with or without that program.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is it a bad power supply, or something else? The temperature levels, including the measurement for the power supply, seem normal. Many thanks.

I don't know where you are so don't know about your house wiring
regulations but I would not expect anything plugged into a powerpoint
to have an effect on the lights. They should be on totally different
    circuits.

  • Need to evaluate CPU or PSU patches

    Hi,
Our business is on the way of migrating the databases. Before migrating the databases, we need to evaluate whether we need to apply CPU or PSU patches after migration.
If we are positive on applying CPU patches, then we will migrate the oracle_homes as well, as we have been applying CPU patches after every release.
In case if we are positive upon PSU patches, then we will be migrating only the databases.
So with this scenario, we need to evaluate whether we need CPU or PSU. I did a basic analysis and found that PSU contains the CPU plus non-security updates. Therefore applying PSU is beneficial. Also we cannot mixmatch the patches i.e. if we are applying CPU, then we have to apply only CPU patches and if we are applying PSU then we have to apply only PSU patches. However we still need to know further details which could be captured from the answers to below questions.
    1. What are the risks and impacts of applying the patches.
    2. When Oracle releases both CPU and PSU, on what basis can we evaluate whether we need CPU/PSU when we are applying for the 1st time.
    3. If, after a period of time after applying patches, if we encounter any bugs and Oracle recommeds to apply a bug fix, what will be the implication that will be encountered if we have to apply on top of CPU or PSU patches.
    4. Will any situation arise where we need to apply a CPU patch, when we already have been applying PSU patch. If so do we have to rollback all the PSU patches or only the
    5. Do we need to install new oracle_home each time we are applying PSU patch
    6. Are there any ways we can reduce downtime. Are these hot patches. We have reduced our downtime while applying CPU patches by applying through OEM. How do we knoe whether they are hot or cold patches
These are some of the questions. Maybe later on i may get more questions. But I would like to get a clear idea.
Note: I had to write this elaborately, so that I can make myself clear on the scenario and also to avoid redundancy while posting messages.
    Thanks

  • ADOBE ANNOUNCE: Preparing for upcoming April 2008 Flash Player 9 security update

Flash Player team is doing some 'pre-communication' around
the security changes in the -next- version of Flash Player,
    releasing in April 2008.
So we're starting with some blog posts, articles and
technotes so that these changes can spread to the community. There
will likely be more than this by release time as well (and new
communication will come at that time).

Everyone should read and become familiar with the current
article on Flash Player 9.0.115.0's 'phase 1' security changes..

There are a few other articles with specifics about
socketpolicyfile handling coming up, but they’re not quite
    done yet..

    technotes w/ code:

Is there a release date yet? I've had management phoning me
over the weekend panicking that the new player was going live this
weekend. When 9,0,115,0 came out our global financial trading
platform broke due to the socket security changes in release 115.
This time we are prepared (as we already use dynamically generated
socket policy files) although with no access to a beta player we
were unable to test. Unfortunately its just another bit of negative
perception of Flash/Flex that others can use to promote alternative
RIA platforms. I will have a fight on my hands this year to stop us
    migrating to Silverlight.
I'm signed up for security alerts from Adobe - is there a
mailing list for Flash Player release date? And why can't I see a
beta version of the new player in order to test?

  • Apply CPU JAN 2012 Patches in R12.1.1

What are the steps in appling CPU JAn 2012 patches in R12.1.1 ?
    Regards.

    Hi;
What are the steps in appling CPU JAn 2012 patches in R12.1.1 ? It depends which CPU patches wanna apply. For some of our client we are just appliying database patches. For some other they also want to some other patches which is for Oracle Fusion Middleware products.
Mainly for ALL patches, You need to check README part of patch. For each patch those steps are different also their prereq and post installation steps.
So you question answer is check readme part for patches
PS:Please dont forget to change thread status to answered if it possible when u belive your thread has been answered, it pretend to lose time of other forums user while they are searching open question which is not answered, thanks for understanding

  • Oracle Critical Patch Update April 2008

Yesterday I have got email from oracle regarding CPU patch availablity of 2008. Just curious where we can get the exact details for that patch...? which bugs is fixed ? What's the correct number for any OS ? Is there any metrics available for that ? I have not get enough information on Metalink.

Please, please, please, please, follow the links provided in the mail for your product!! (http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/security/critical-patch-updates/cpuapr2008.html)
You would have hit note 552248.1 on Metalink.
    Did you read it?
Within 2 seconds I can see various matrices of patch numbers.
As the CPU is provided by Metalink, why don't you submit a SR with your concerns?

  • Policy on download access to CPU's (security patches)

Does Oracle provide access to OTN members for security patches, namely the most recent, October CPU for Oracle 10g rel 2? Or, is this access available only for those with metalink access?

I'm honestly trying to understand the security risk here.
If you're using the OTN license, then there are a limited number of Oracle databases installed on development machines in your organization with no access to the internet and no sensitive data. The vast majority of development machines I've ever seen are horifically vulnerable because no one bothers to spend the time locking them down in the first place-- it's a lot easier to attack a system when the front and back door aren't locked than to figure out how to infiltrate through the chimney. I've never seen a licensed organization where patches were applied to every Oracle database on every laptop, every application server on every laptop, the FTP server that got installed on some random dev machine for testing, etc. I can't imagine a shop where Oracle wasn't even in production wanting to go through that effort every quarter.
Oracle virii and worms are, while not impossible, are extremely rare, so the risks tend to come from attackers explicitly targetting a system, and no one is going to attack a dev system with no production data.
Even if the worst happens and one of your dev databases is compromised, what is the loss? At worst, you uninstall Oracle and reinstall and a developer has lost an hour of their life. I'd wager that it would take way more time to apply the patch (and fix all the little things that the developers forgot at the time) than to rebuild the database if it were lost.
If I'm missing an important attack vector or security concern, I'd certainly be interested in hearing about it. At the moment, though, I just don't see a cause for concern.

  • Anyone applied CPU july 2008 for windows 2003 64 AMD?

I am confused in section 3.3.7.1 paragraph 5 where instruction says to run catcpu_delta.sql if Patch21 was already installed and if not, run catcpu.sql
I am not sure what is Patch21? Is it Apr 08 cpu patch? I don't see any information on Patch 21...Anyone knows what they are talking about?

I think Note:342443.1 will clear up the confusion.
Patch 21 refers to "bundles", the PSE bundles that delivers patches between Patch Sets and CPUs, only on the Windows platforms.
