CPU DDR BIOS Help

Hey There,
I have a quick concern, and I know one of you smart guys(or gals) can assist me!  I have just recently Upgraded, from Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz, to the Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with 800Mhz Front side bus.  Before I get into my BIOS issue, one side question: What are the Benefits to HTT, and are there any performance Downsides, I should worry about?  Now my real issue, i need help with the Bios Settings.  For the CPU speed, I have it set to 200 Mhz, which from what I have been told will set it 800(200 X 4), but now it keeps My memory Speed at 333mhz.  I use Memory at 400 MHZ, and the only way I can chngd the memory speed, is to chng the CPU speed from 200 mhz to a higher number, which then causes my system to crash aftr entering Windows.  Going from P4 2.4 with 533 FSB to 3.0 with 800FSB has seen a huge chng, but I dont know if i am shortchanging myself by not getting the Memory at 400 MHZ.  Once I install my X800 card today, I dont expect any speed drops with MOST games at full power.  Thats my end goal, so ever little tweak I can do without having to Overclock helps.  If anyone has any opinions about the Geforce 6800 vs. Ati X800 I'd Love to hear those.  I was a fan of The Geforce Ti 4600 line which I have in one system, but when Radeon dropped the 9XXX crds on me, and I got 9700 Pro it chngd my gaming life for Good.  Now I just want whats best.  Thank you very much in advance for any help.  And please reply as many times as you like, i want all advice and opinions...Thanks!
My System Specs:
Pentium 4: 3.0Ghz, 800 Mhz FSB, 512KB Cache
2 512KB sticks of PC3200 DDR400 RAM
Ati Radeon 9700 Pro(I have a ATI X800 in my hnds to be instlld when i leave work)
Creative Labs Audigy 2  w/ Inspire T6600 6.1 Surround Sound
MSI 875P NEO-FISR
Windows X Home Edition
Maxtor 120GB Ultra 133, 7200 RPM

Hi Lone Wolf 04,
As Danny has said......mixed mem modules will cause in-stability....
Yes, if you have a matched pair of DDR400 you will see difference.....
If you have a matched pair of DDR333, you will see a difference over un-matched pair of DDR400.........
There is the cheap option........2 sticks of same brand mem......BUT, must be same onboard chips...... (Winboard & M-tec not same......)

  • Need help ASAP, have a tough question about CPU and BIOS...

Alrighty guys... I'm not super smart when it comes to BIOS and the nitty gritty computer stuff, but I know my way around. Here's the thing...
This is the desktop I have:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=120&prodSeriesId=...
It's sorta old, but it gets the job done quickly. I had an issue with it some time ago and I thought it was the power supply, so I replaced it. While I was waiting for the power supply to arrive, I took the CPU out, just to be nosey. I accidentally bent a couple of the prongs, so I had to get a new one.
First, I bought a Black Edition AMD quad core, but the 125W was too high for my 95W chip. I had to sell it. I sold that and I just bought a new one:
    http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom%20X4%209850%20-%20HD9850XAJ4BGH%20(HD9850XAGHBOX).html
I put it in the computer, boot it up and it goes to the HP boot screen and then goes to a black screen stating that the CPU is not compatible and that it's going to shut down. When I reset it and try to press F10 or any of the keys it states that it's going to go to that screen, but then just goes to the black CPU shutdown screen again. There is one thing that the computer will do though. When I press F2 when it's in the black shutdown screen, it will SOMETIMES load the two HDD's that I have. It's just really weird. One time I got it to go to a HP diagnosis page. It showed the CPU and had a big green check next to it. It checked the memory too, and it got a check. Then it just froze and I had to shut it down. I can't seem to get it to that screen again.
My real question is why won't it recognize that my CPU is compatible? Do I need to update my BIOS? Can I do that without a CPU and a running OS? I really don't feel like selling this processor. I know that I should have just gotten the exact same processor model that came out of it.
Any info will be nice! Thanks so much!!

    Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion a6720y Desktop Computer and it's M2N78-LA (Violet) motherboard. According to the specs, your computer supports the following CPUs;
    Socket type: AM2/AM2+
    TDP: 95 watts
    AMD Athlon X2 (Bt)
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 up to 6000+ (W)
AMD Phenom Triple-Core up to 8xxx (AM2+) (Toliman)
AMD Phenom Quad-Core 9xxx series (AM2+) up to 9850 (Agena)
Based on the CPU part number supplied, you purchased another 125 watt CPU. The AMD Phenom X4 9850 (HD9850XAGHBOX) isn't going to work because it is rated at 125 watts and therefore is not compatible with your motherboard. Please consider returning (as Dave suggests) or selling your current CPU and getting one of these 95 watt AMD Phenom X4 CPUs.

  • Ballistix pc4000 ddr 500 running @ ddr 214 - help please?

    k8n neo2 plat bios ver 1.3
    3200 winchester
2x512 ballistix pc 4000 ddr sdram in slots 1+3
    Hi
Im hoping someone will be able to help. I cannot get this memory to run at anything more than a ddr clock of 107 (214 ddr) when i set the timing to 'auto' on the memlock. Cpu-z says this speed but also has '256 clocks' in the 'dram idle timer' in its memory tab (meant to be 16 clocks im sure).
Ive messed around with it for ages trying to get it to work and have just received various error sounds and messages causing me to have to reset the cmos numerous times just to be able to get back in.
I can get it to work if i lock the memlock at 200 but this is causing it to run at only pc3200 (ddr 400) speed, not to mention giving me the inability to overclock it at all. Timings are set at what the memory is meant to run ddr 500 at - 2.5-4-8-4 (but im only sticking 2.7 volts through it, from stated 2.8, as it's running slower).
The crucial tool said it would work fine, the spec of the memory and board indicate that they're compatible with each other, and several people in the thread on this site are using it (1 person @ 235 fsb) - so i seem to think that i may be missing something.
Also, each stick of the memory works fine on it's own, got it to ddr 440 without flinching (220 fsb... ), and stable, no crashes or nothing - hours of use and numerous benchmarking. But 2 sticks just sends the ddr clock back to 107 unless i lock the memlock.
I've run memtest whilst locking the memlock at 200 and it showed no errors. Im going to do the same thing overnight tonight with the ddr clock knackered at 107 - see what shows up.
My other memory works fine - 2x512 2700 kingstonX.
    Can anyone help? Much thanks

    Try a BIOS upgrade.
Maybe it's no coincidence that my OCZ 3500EB was also limited to 214 mhz on my K8N Neo (not Neo2) with BIOS 1.4. Both sets of RAM use ICs made by Micron so perhaps it's no coincidence (not to say they're exactly the same.  They're not.)
Upping to beta BIOS 1.52, 1.55, or 1.56 fixes things for me.
Maybe for the Neo2 you should try beta 1.36 or 1.37 then? Worth a try.  I believe that K8N Neo BIOS 1.4 and K8N Neo2 BIOS 1.3 are total clunkers.
    Good luck...

  • Msi k7n2 delta2-FSR and problems with memories(ddr 400);help me!!!

    hello!!!!.
I am very frustrated because is imposible that memories work fine to 200*2.I´ve tried twinmos and now ocz premier ddr-400.When i used memtest i have a lot of errors and frozen in windows.
If i choose vdim 3.30 memtest no errors but this is a voltage very high.I don´t now what can I do.
Is a bug of this motherboard?
In other forum tell me that this motherboard don´t work good with memory to 400 but the motherboard has dual channel.
    i need help.
    thanks!

how can you have a stable OC if you have memory errors?
i don´t Know but prime no errors.
Quote from: Stu on 26-March-06, 01:48:25
forget about the OC for now, and get it working properly at stock speeds, then you can worry about getting an OC right
I have tell than 166 cpu(default values in bios),there are a lot of errors(more of one hundred and froozen in windows) in memtest.

  • !!!!!I CAN'T OVERCLOCK MY CPU. BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MY AMD ATHLON XP-MOBILE

    My configuration is this:
    Mainboard: MSI K7N2-DELTA2-FSR
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP-Mobile 2500+ 1855MHZ
    Video Card: CAPTIVA Nvidia 6600GT 128MB 128bit
Hard disk: Internal Maxtor DiamonMax 10 300GB S-ATA 16MB Buffer
Audio Card: Sound Blaster Audigy Live 5.1 24bit
    Power Supply: 400WATT
    DVD drive: LG 16X
SO I OVERCLOCK MY CPU UNTIL 3200+ (2200mhz), AND IF I WANT TO OVERCLOCK MORE DURING "POST", BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE NEW VALUE (ES: FSB 200  / X11.5  = 2300mhz . DOESN'T RECOGNIZE).
PLEASE HELP ME OR CAN YOU TELL ME HOW CAN I RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM???
    THANKS A LOT. BYE

Please furnish us some more info concerning the memory you are using and power output of the 3.3v - 5v -12v rails of your power supply along with the name of its manufacturer.
Some mobile cpus start up with a lower multiplier and then go to the bios to use the preset settings in the bios.  If the cpu can't start with the bios settings, it remains at its start up values.  Your mobile may not be able to run at a multiplier of 11.5 with a 200fsb.  Drop its fsb back to 166 (stock fsb 133) and see if you can run it at its rated multiplier of 14.  That will equal 2324mhz.
Overclocking is finding a balance between the fsb and the multiplier that allows you to get the most stable speed out of the cpu.
You also have not mentioned what vcore voltage that you are using or the temps.
The memory that I'm using are : V-Data 512x2 MB DDR CL 2,5
    The power supply is 400watt chassis, 3,3V, 12V, 5V.
I tell you that with the mainboard ASUS I did't have this problem with the multiplier because I put 11.5 x 200Fsb.

  • K9A2 Platinum - ATI4890 - Ocasionaly no Signal on startup, no post bios HELP plz

Hi. I'm having some weird issues, it has only happened tree times in 2 months, no signal is displayed, monitor remains in standby mode. Then I hard reset it, and then every thing works fine. I have a MSI K9A2 Platinum motherboard with an AMD Phenom II 940 BE, all powered by a CoolerMaster Silent Pro 600w PSU. I haven't updated my motherboard bios yet, nor the vga bios.
Driver is Catalyst 9.5 for Vista x64, it shows my 4890 like "HD 4800 Series". The card is conected via DVI to a DELL s2409W 24'' lcd.
When it happens it does not show any video signal in my monitor, not even bios info, the monitor remains in STANDBY mode, i don't think drivers can cause that.
The card power supply is connected through two PCI-E 6+2 Pins conectors directly to the PSU.
I haven't updated my motherboard bios, this i could do, i know there are new updates for my motherboard. I have no floppy though, is there any way to update the bios via flash or making a booting CD?
Also, i have 2x OCZ 2gb memory stick running at 1066 in slots 3 and 4, this could be a issue??
Its a weid issue really, i can use the system normaly without problems right now, but this is still making me wonder whats was wrong those 3 times since i couldnt see any errors, cause there was no video.
I hope you can help out here, thank you.

Just came from work, and happened again, no signal, I couldnt hear the windows logon sound, so the bios is not posting.
I'd updated my signature with my system specs.
Also i cheked out my bios version with CPU-Z: V1.5
    Also heres my PSU specs
It should be working fine with the card, it has 40A on the +12v line.
I'm using the 3 and 4 memory slot from the board in dual channel, I'm gonna change it to the 1 and 2, to see what happens...
Lastly, would you guys recomend me to upgrade the bios?

  • DDR 500 help

hie , how come my HyperX DDR 500 cant be detected as DDR 500 ?
    in CPU-Z
    only show DDR 400 only
    why ?
when i set the memory frequency in the bios
    it refuse to boot

PoRsChe, This is a very good question ,And I asked the Tech. Support Guy At Corsair the Same Question, and he said that all or Mostly all the 500 MHZ Modules out there are being recognized as 400,and 433 MHZ Modules, is that since there is No REAL JEDEC PC-4000 (DDR-500) Standard Yet Published, that the BIOSes for Motherboards are Recognizing them as PC-3200 or PC-3500 (DDR-400, or DDR-433) Modules ...And the reason for this is, That not every Motherboard (BIOS) Manufacturer out there except for the "Big-Four" (MSI, ASUS, ABIT, GIGABYTE), Has High-Performance BIOSes Programed to be able to even read the SPD Codes of such "High-Speed" (DDR-500) Memory, so if the Module were to be Coded in it's SPD as DDR-500 or higher those other Manufacturers BIOSes would not be able to read the SPD, therefore the PC would NOT run ..So this is the Memory Makers way (Until a JEDEC PC-4000 Standard is Created) to keep the Consumers and the other Motherboard Manufacturers (VIA, DFI SOYO TYAN,ect.ect) Happy, as the Memory will indeed work in their Boards ....I know, I am not very good at explaining these things , But I gave it a Try ...He said the a JEDEC DDR-500 Standard is due out soon......And now the Memory Makers have started Making DDR-533, and DDR-566 Modules ..So the same will hold true for those too, Until a JEDEC Standard is Created for them as well...Do you understand?........Sean REILLY875

  • 875 and ddr settings help plz

it's about a month ago i owned my new 875 neo fis2r mobo, i upgraded the bios to the latest  version 1.8.
if any can help me and give me a brief of:
    1- what is the difference between a cpu p4 2.8c or 2.8?anything
2- what a cl3 differ of cl 2.5 or cl2 is it the timing of my ram
3- with my current settings i can't reach a cpu fsb more than 230x14, if i do it manually from bios, window wont log in it restart, if i do it auto from the corecenter, when it reach the 230 231 the win blue screen appear and computer restart.
4- how can i know the best timing for the best performance for my system
5- what is 1:1 or 4:5 how can i know wich one i'm running
6- all said that msi 875 p neo fis2r have no D.O.T., [/glow]i purchased one that came with a logo on the front box that said d.o.t. technology, and in my bios the is the dot presets:private captain sergent coloneil and general, so what is going?????
nb:plz i need the help i'm new to overclocking and i want to know better about how to achieve the best settings and they mean!
    thanx in advance

Kevin Keenan has a good thread on overclocking.
To answer some of your questions:
    1- what is the difference between a cpu p4 2.8c or 2.8?anything
There isn't a 2.8c but the 'c' is included to indicate it is a CPU with an 800 MHz front side bus (FSB). There is also a version of the 2.8 that has a 533 FSB
2- what a cl3 differ of cl 2.5 or cl2 is it the timing of my ram
Yes. See here for an explanation.
3- with my current settings i can't reach a cpu fsb more than 230x14...
This is actually pretty high for a 2.8CPU especially at 1:1 overclock. The best I can do is 220.
4- how can i know the best timing for the best performance for my system
Start with the SPD settings. Get the FSB as high as you go and remain stable and with temperatures not getting out of control. Then start tweaking your memory settings.
5- what is 1:1 or 4:5 how can i know wich one i'm running
See  P4 Neo Unofficial Guide Basically, if you have an 800 FSB CPU you are running 5:4 with FSB 200 RAM 333, 1:1 with FSB 200 RAM 400 and 4:5 with FSB 200 and RAM 500.

  • KT4VL BIOS Help

I'm trying to find out if the BIOS on my mobo is bad. I have not been able to get this mobo to run stabily since I got it 3 weeks ago. When ever I enter BIOS the AMI BIOS screen will flash on and off, sometimes even scamble abit for about 4 sec, then dislpay CMOS setup. Once in setup all seems normal, but I noticed something strange. In CPU Frequncy/Vcore setup and frequency adjustment selected, the help displays the following:
"To change/select ur frequency press +/-"
OK I don't have what it says in front of me (forgot to bring it with me).
It's the ur thing that bugs me anyway. It may be just a mistake, bad english or a way to save space. Or an indication of a bad chip.
I'm guessing it's supposed to say "your", but "ur" is all I get.
The board shipped with BIOS v 1.1, I flashed it to 1.2. During my attemts to get it running I have reflashed 1.2 3 times, all flashes reported good. Since noticing the "ur" I flashed to 1.1 but it is the same.
Would some one with this board Please check thiers to see if it's the same. Thanks.

It has been recommended to run a sys with a GF4 you need at least a combined watts of 200 on the 3.3v and 5v.
If your HSF is connected to the mobo connect it straight to the PSU. Signal spikes through the sense line have been known to occur causing probs.
Also if you have a 40 wire ribbon try using that with the CD/DVD instead of an 80 wire. I've had probs with 80 wire and CD/DVD combos
Last I have read that MS recommends disabling APIC, but if you do that you will have to reinstall windows. However I don't think that will make a diff.
    Hope one of these helps.
I have also posted a thread in the BIOS forum asking the moderators to check into the "ur" question.

  • PLEASE HELP! Restarting issue with K8N SLI. need bios help???

      Hi people,
I would really appreciate some help this this problem im having. It’s a bit long winded but ill try to keep it short.
My pcs spec is as follows –
MSI K8N SLI (model MS-7185) motherboard
    AMD Athlon X2 64bit 4200+ cpu
    4 x 512mb ram
Running with a Radeon X700 256mb graphics card.
Ever since I purchased the machine ive been having problems with the pc loading up XP (or any OS for that matter!). Sometimes it would freeze on the loading screen and sometimes it would freeze on the black screen just after the loading screen.  Sometimes while running windows perfectly normally, a blue screen with writing describing the error came up and then the system restarted, however, I would only ever manage to read the title of the blue screen as the pc restarted so quickly. I remember seeing the word hardware though,  so I guessed it was a serious hardware issue. I lived with this for a few months thinking it might be something im doing that’s making it be so unreliable, such as a software issue, but I recently went on a mission to sort it out. The BIOS of the motherboard was password protected and I wasn’t aware of this until I had lost contact with who I had bought the system off, so I decided to restart the motherboard’s settings by pressing the reset button on the board itself. Next time I booted it up it told me that the defaults were restored etc and continued to boot windows, however now I can hardly get windows to start at all, the system restarts on the loading screen 8 times out of 10, and if it does boot up fully then it doesn’t last long before crashing on me. I messed about with a few of the BIOS settings, but to be honest I have no experience with working with these settings, its all very new to me. I have an idea  that it could be the processor or the graphics card causing the problem, just an inkling though!
If anyone can help me I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you. Adam

Can you furnish us some additional info on the 4 sticks of memory that you have?  Also on the power supply?  There is a label on the side of it that lists the manufacturer of the power supply and the amperage output for the 12volt power rail.
Thanks for your reply. here is some more info:
    4 x Kingston 512mb model no - KVR400X64 C34
The power supply is a Sweex Advanced Gold 650W [BA000110]. max currennt on 12v rail is 25A
Hope this helps. Thanks again for your reply.

  • MSI X79A-GD45 (8D) BIOS help??

Hi guys, I'm new here as I've only just managed (barely!) to build my first PC. Although I'm slightly worried that once I turn it on the BIOS of my motherboard won't be the version required to run the i7-3820. I've read in a number of threads from different forums and it seems to be a recurring theme of this motherboard being slightly problematic.
I'm still waiting on my PSU so I can't check it quite yet although everything else has been assembled.
My question is, can I find out the BIOS version of my motherboard from something like a serial no., and if so, where?
My system is as follows -
    MSI X79A-GD45(8D)
    i7-3820
    R9 270x Hawk
    2x8GB G-Skill 8GB Ripjaws X DDR3 2133
    Cooler Master Hyper 412s
    Corsair RM650 80 Plus Gold 650W
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as well as advice on what to do if the BIOS is an old man.
P.S. - there is a ''revision history'' inside the ''software & application'' user guide which notes an update of something (not sure if BIOS) up to ''v1.6 - Update Control Center 2.5 and add MSI SUITE''.
    Thanks!

That's a fairly new board. It is manufactured 2013-02-08. All Sandy Bridge E cpus (all 3820s) should be supported out of the box then. It is most likely at bios 10.7 (7760vA7) one of the last bios versions before Ivy Bridge E support had been implemented. A newer bios (12.1) came 2013-02-21.
Sounds like good news, although I'm a pessimist by nature...

It is doubtful if that reseller has done anything with the board's initial factory installed UEFI/BIOS version. An admin or moderator will be able to determine the date of manufacture for you and what course of action will need to be done.
You could always try the CPU and see if it will POST or not. No harm should be done trying it. If it doesn'r POST, then you have a pretty good idea it needs the UEFI/BIOS updated. Be sure to 'barebones' the system (minimum hardware installed) outside the case on a plain piece of unprinted cardboard or untreated wood. One RAM stick in the DIMM1 slot.
Hopefully I wont have to follow this advice, took me so long to set everything up!
I did manage to find a few dates on the mobo itself, including one mentioning ''EuP 2013'' as well as a sticker ending with the numbers ''2014''. I think it's a good indication although I may just be seeing what I want to there. Any idea what EuP means?
Thanks for your help so far guys.
