CPU detection

I have an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ processor. However, my MSI KT4 Ultra-FISR motherboard detects my processor as running at 1150MHz, and as having a max clock speed of 1150 MHz also. My previous motherboard that I used with this processor, the Abit KG7, detected this processor just fine, and it ran at 1530 MHz. What should I do?

ok, you need to get into the BIOS.
Restart the PC and press the "del" key at boot up.
This will open the BIOS screen.   You will see a list of menus, got to Frequency/Voltage control
In there you will see CPU FSB Clock - it should say 100 MHz, this is what you need to change to 133 MHz.  You will need to type it in.
Once it is set to 133 MHz press "Esc" untill you get back to the first screen.  Then select the save settings and exit.  Your machine will boot and you should see the CPU being recognised correctly.
As 133 (FSB) x 11.5 (the multiplier of your CPU) = 1529.5 Mhz which is the "Speed" of an XP1800+.

now all of a sudden its not detecting it properly
i'm back to using the multi-locked at 14, can't lower multiplier, and FSB changes arent too stable, havent done thorough stress tests yet.
    clock atm = 2337MHz o.O
and a wierd prob i've been gettin recently, bios has been resetting itself at random intervals....my computer will just restart itself and reset the cmos to defaults and ask me to correct them
wondering if any of u guys n gals could help
    cheers in advance

i have already cleared cmos multiple times when overclocks have failed.....might try reflashing the bios n seeing what happens
just think its odd that this cpu won't run any lower multipliers and crashes on anything other that "auto" setting

  • Error" Unsupported CPU Detected

Hello, I have a HP Pavilion P6142P desktop with the M2N78-LA (Violet) mobo. I recently installed a new AMD Phenom X4 9850 CPU; which accordingly to the HP website is compatible with this unit. Once installed I get the message: "Error: Unsupported CPU detected, System will shut down in a few seconds". Now I can get past this by hitting "F2" several times and Windows 7 (64-bit, Ult) will load. In both BIOS (v5.22) and device manager the CPU shows up accurately. Any thoughts on a cause and possible fix?

Previously, the specs for the Violet motherboard have stated a TDP of 95 watts. It appears that the AMD Phenom X4 9850 CPU came in two version, both of which are listed at 125 watts TDP. As far as I know, the Violet motherboard is only rated for 95 watts TDP and the only fix is to install a 95 watt TDP CPU.

  • Wrong CPU detection

My AthlonXP 2100+ is now detected as 1500+, what can I do to change it back???? someone please help.......   ?(

Thanks AGAIN :P , anyway, I pushed the FSB to 134mhz, 1mhz just to 'try', I didnt do the voltage thingi, man, it was terrible , the comp wont start the bios and this that, I got it running again anyhow....I have 2REALLY noisy Volcano9 on my CPU and as an extraction fan its running 52C on idle, hot tropical wheather here......I have however easily overclocked my Radeon to quite high VPU and Video-RAM speeds, it is GREAT!  :D
Hey,I am running a KT3 Ultra with some PC 2100 ram, I am planning to upgrade my mo/bo to the K7N2 Delta , will I see improvements (10-30%) using these kinda ram? 'they' benchkmark with the PC 2700 ram, right? The K7N2 with the IGP is currently available, my comp guy said that the IGP will 'eat' some of the system resources even if I disable it, will it?

  • K7N2L CPU detection is wrong!!!

    lo all.
I changed my fsb to 200mhz and my agp apeture size to 128MB. The pc would not boot up after doing that so I set the jumpers to force 100mhz FSB. I went back in the bios, changed the settings back to 166mhz FSB and AGP 64MB. After restarting my mobo detects the cpu as a 1100mhz instead of a 2500+. No matter what I change or reload, the thing still detects wrong.
I haven't updated the bios to a new version yet, will give it a go and hope it works. If that doesn't work, do you all know of any way to fix this?
    thx
    CD.

lol, suppose it would help if I said it :D . I did put the jumpers back though. I'll check my mobo's manual again, maybe I put them in wrong (sure I haven't though).
I mentioned this problem to someone who's got a similar board and the same thing happend to him. He said he swapped his cpu with a 1800+, booted the pc, then put his 2200+ back in and it detected fine. Now I don't wanna go through that mission cuz 1stly I need another cpu to try it with and 2ndly I ABSOLUTELY HATE removing heatsinks from mobos.
If there's a way (easy one :] ) to fix this, then thats the way I wanna go.

  • CPU detection problem ?

    I have a 2200+ XP AMD CPU and a KTA4AV mobo.
Problem is that windows xp says its a AMD 1500 running at 1.35Mhz ??

Any idea how I can sort this out ?
    Thx

    Thanks alot, that worked

  • X38 Platinum: Problem with CPU detection

    Hi everybody,
I've got a little problem with my newly acquired x38/platinum...
I'm currently assembling a new PC on my own... So far all the component have been plugged-in EXCEPT the memory modules (I haven't purchased them yet).
Despite this complete lack of memory, I try to test the correct boot-up of the system.
And then the following problem occurs: the "lcd post" display hang on "CPU" (before rebooting indefinitely)... Not "DRAM" as expected...
The CPU is a Core 2 Quad, and is correctly powered with a 8-pin/12v connector. The CPU-Fan is powered from the correct on-board pins (cpufan). The speakers are plugged, but no specific "beep" are emitted.
One possible mistake I've made: the CPU-Fan is not fully plugged with the 4 "screws": i only (and hardly) manage to clip 2 of them, I'm afraid of breaking the board if y try too hard with the two others.
Could this problem be caused by the absence of DRAM? Or more likely by the the fact that the Fan is not fully clipped? By the way, is that normal that the CPU Fan is so Hard to plug correctly?
Any comments or idea would be greatly appreciated
Thanks (and sorry for the approximate english)
    MH.

mhz42, please provide full system specs.  Otherwise it is very hard to help you with your problem.  What brand and type of memory are you using?  What other components are part of your system configuration?
The mb is a x38 platinum 1333. The proc is a quad core qx8650, 1333fsb. The hd (western digital caviar) and optical drive (lg h66n) are both on sata and plugged. The memory used is 2go Kingston ddr3 1375mhz... (plugged in DIMM 1/2).
Anyway, I frankly doubt that the problem could come from anywhere else than the cpu (considering the post message)...
Quote from: Jack the Newbie on 23-January-08, 22:03:59
    What PSU are you using?
    A seasonic M12-500w... brand new...
Quote from: Jack the Newbie on 23-January-08, 22:03:59
Did you properly plug in ALL power connectors?
The powering should be ok... (the MB, the proc, the cpufan and the graphic card are plugged) The processor seems to be correctly powered, if it was not the case, the post process wouldn't even start (tested)...
    Quote from: Aaron Yuri
You could just buy a cheap Pentium 4 and flash it with that.
That's an idea. Or i could directly ship the mb back to msi and thell them to do it themself... After all the spec says cleary "quad core compatible"...
    So?
Just to be sure: the "since 1.1" from the compatibility table from MSI, refeers to the bios version right? Not a sort of MB revision or something?

  • Second CPU detected

This does not seem to be a performance issue nor have I really had any problems, but since I just installed SpeedFan and the initialization on startup reminded me about this. XP sees 2 processors on the system. Why would this be and is it a problem??

Most likely you have a hyperthreading processor and it is indeed enabled. Enjoy the performance boost - it is a good thing.
You can check under CPU-Z or the windows resource graphs - you should see that there are 2 processors.  HT in effect.
    Pretty cool huh.

  • High CPU Script Explanation

    Hello Community,
I have created the following script to send me an email when the cpu has reached 90% and stayed at that level for 60 seconds
    event manager applet high_cpu
     event snmp oid 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.3.1 get-type exact entry-op gt entry-val "90" poll-interval 60

  • EEM for high CPU C4510R with SUP7E

    Hi all,
I have a client that experiences high CPU usage on a pair of C4510Rs at random times. The issue causes their HSRP to flap which in turn causes network outages. It only seems to occur for around 10 to 15 minutes and by the time I am called to look into the problem it has passed. I suspect it is some type of traffic that is being CPU punted and is overloading the CPU and I would like to collect some CPU stats and CPU packet captures while the problem is occuring to further troubleshoot.
I used a previous C4510R EEM script (https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2065177) as a template and created the following script:
    event manager applet cpu_stats
    event snmp oid 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.3.1 get-type exact entry-op ge entry-val "70" exit-op lt exit-val "70" poll-interval 5 maxrun 300
action 1.01 syslog msg "------HIGH CPU DETECTED----, CPU: $_snmp_oid_val %"
    action 1.02 cli command "enable"
action 1.03 cli command "show clock | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.04 cli command "show proc cpu sort | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.05 cli command "show platform health | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.06 cli command "debug platform packet all count"
action 1.07 cli command "show platform cpu packet statistics | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.08 cli command "show proc cpu history | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.09 cli command "debug platform packet all receive buffer"
action 1.10 cli command "show platform cpu packet buffered | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.11 cli command "show proc cpu sort | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.12 cli command "show platform cpu packet statistics | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.13 cli command "Show proc cpu history | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.14 cli command "show platform cpu packet buffered | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.15 cli command "show log | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.16 cli command "undebug all"
    end
However when looking at the CPU history after the problem occured again it appears that the SUP7E has one physical CPU that has two cores and one or two of the cores hits 100% when the issue occurs while the system CPU stays low as can be seen below:

So I walked through the SNMP OIDs for the two cores without luck (also came across this article
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2179888 to create SNMP OIDs for the cores by parsing the output of "show proc cpu" with a cron job). An SNMP walk of the CPU MIBs comes back with the following:
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.3        - cpmCPUTotal5sec.5000
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.4        - cpmCPUTotal1min.5000
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.5        - cpmCPUTotal5min.5000
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.6        - cpmCPUTotal5secRev.5000
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.7        - cpmCPUTotal1minRev.5000
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8        - cpmCPUTotal5minRev.5000
Each of which seems to correspond with the system CPU. So in order to continue without creating an overly complex EEM scripts that parse the show proc cpu output and pass it to another EEM script that checks the value I decided to try a lower entry and exit value of 40%. The next time the problem occured the system CPU went over 40% but did not seem to trigger the script. What is important to note is the first time I did a full SNMP walk of the OID I was able to get the CPU over 50% and the script triggered.
So I moved down to 20% for the trigger value, tried with different SNMP OIDs like .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.6.5000 and doing an SNMP walk of the Cisco MIB without success in getting the script triggered (see attached output). Is there a problem with the script or the SNMP MIBs I am using?
    Thanks in advance!
    David.

    Hi Joseph
I have written the following set of scripts to do the job (good to just post them here if anyone else is having the same problem!), I have tested individual components and they all seem to function as expected, so just waiting now for the high cpu event to occur again:
The first script is just to set the prev_cpu_state to low so the main script can detect the first transition to high and does not spit log messages out every minute because the context variable is not initialised:
    event manager applet set_cpu_state
    event none
    action 1.01 handle-error type ignore
action 1.02 context retrieve key CPU_STATE variable prev_cpu_state
    action 1.03 handle-error type exit
    action 1.04 set prev_cpu_state "low"
action 1.05 context save key CPU_STATE variable prev_cpu_state
    end
The second and main script checks the CPU level of both cores over 5 seconds and takes the highest of the two, if this is over 50% and the cpu state was previously low then it will trigger the third script.
    event manager applet dualcore
    event timer cron cron-entry "* * * * 0-6"
    action 1.00 cli command "en"
action 1.01 cli command "show process cpu | include five"
action 1.02 regexp "Core 0: CPU utilization for five seconds: ([0-9]+)%" $_cli_result result c0cpu5sec
    action 1.03 if $_regexp_result eq 1
    action 1.04 end
action 1.05 regexp "Core 1: CPU utilization for five seconds: ([0-9]+)%" $_cli_result result c1cpu5sec
    action 1.06 if $_regexp_result eq 1
    action 1.07 end
    action 1.08 handle-error type ignore
action 1.09 context retrieve key CPU_STATE variable prev_cpu_state
    action 1.11 handle-error type exit
    action 1.12 if $c0cpu5sec ge $c1cpu5sec
    action 1.13  set highest_core $c0cpu5sec
    action 1.14 else
    action 1.15  set highest_core $c1cpu5sec
    action 1.16 end
    action 1.17 if $highest_core ge 50
action 1.18  if $prev_cpu_state eq low
    action 1.19   set prev_cpu_state "high"
action 1.20   syslog msg "----HIGH CPU DETECTED----, CPU: $highest_core %"
action 1.21   cli command "event manager run collect_stats"
    action 1.22  end
    action 1.23 else
action 1.24  if $prev_cpu_state eq high
    action 1.25   set prev_cpu_state "low"
action 1.26   syslog msg "----CPU BACK TO NORMAL----, CPU: $highest_core %"
    action 1.27  end
    action 1.28 end
action 1.29 context save key CPU_STATE variable prev_cpu_state
The third script just runs all of the require show commands for debugging the issue and appends the output to a file called cpu_stats on the bootflash:
    event manager applet collect_stats
    event none
    action 1.02 cli command "enable"
action 1.03 cli command "show clock | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.04 cli command "show proc cpu sort | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.05 cli command "show platform health | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.06 cli command "debug platform packet all count"
action 1.07 cli command "show platform cpu packet statistics | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.08 cli command "show proc cpu history | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.09 cli command "debug platform packet all receive buffer"
action 1.10 cli command "show platform cpu packet buffered | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.11 cli command "show proc cpu sort | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.12 cli command "show platform cpu packet statistics | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.13 cli command "Show proc cpu history | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.14 cli command "show platform cpu packet buffered | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.15 cli command "show log | append bootflash:cpu_stats"
action 1.16 cli command "undebug all"
    end
    Regards,
    David.

Since you use a SMP kernel, the system should recognize the CPU's. I suspect a firmware or BIOS compatiblity issue with your hardware. I suggest to check the HP compatibility matrix at http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hplinuxcert.html and check for appropriate firmware updates. You might also want to verify that you are not using any boot parameters (/etc/grub.conf) that can affect CPU detection, such as noapic, etc.

It works fine with VLC using the codec avc1 , so the fix might be to use coreavc codec with mplayer, unfortunately mplayer-coreavc-svn from AUR does not compile :S
    Thank you

    It actually worked!
Can't see what was the problem with mplayer but now it plays perfectly
    Thank you!
