CPU fan plug stopped working

I started my rig the other day (actually about 3 weeks ago) and the cpu fan was not moving.  Tried a few things but finally stuck the cpu fan plug into the sys1 fan slot and its now working.  Will this be a problem in the future or will the mobo be fine without the cpu fan plug not working?
Everything else seems to be working fine - any suggestions on what to do?

I see no problem on not having your cpu fan plugged directly into the cpu header... but it may just be a tempory fix for an underlying problem. Any stability issues? Also if that header dies you can always plug directly into the power supply 4 pin to 3 pin cables are not hard to come by.
Good Luck

  • CPU fan isn't working on Hermes 845GV full and Lite

    well
i have here an hermes 845GV and when i switch it on, the cpu fan starts for about half an second and stops then, same problem with the lite version.
so, can this problem be solved or do i have to send it back to msi? (both comps are new)
    thx schBORG

it works fine, except the cpu fan isn't working, it only starts for about half a sec when u switch it on, when u connect the cable with the plug for the 2 side fans it works fine, but when the cpu fan isn't working, the cpu gets too hot and the computer crashes, and so the os installation is destroyed, that's the reason why i found that problem

  • Plug stopped working - under warranty?

I purchased an iPad that is still under warranty.
The power plug adapter stopped working.
Will they replace if the iPad is under warranty?
    Thanks

Is it the plug that has stopped working? Or is it possible that the sync/charge cable got damaged and is keeping the iPad from recharging?
If you have access to another cable try it and see what happens.
I don't know if Apple will replace a damaged / defective sync cable or not since they can be kind of fragile.  If you don't always unplug it by pulling on the plug and not the cord you can easily damage it.

  • IPhone lock broken and auto on when plugged stopped working

My work-around for the broken lock button was to plug it into a power source and it would turn back on. This work-around stopped working since I updated to 7.0.4. I've had it plugged in for 4 hours now and the Apple logo won't show up after a dozen attempts of uplugging and plugging back into the power source.
I have schedule with genius bar and, hopefully, they will resolve the issue.
This is for the iPhone 5.

Recovery mode should turn on the phone (it needs only the Home Button), but you will lose everything on the phone if you don't have a backup.

  • SSD as second hard drive, now CPU fan isn't working?

Warranty issues aside, I recently installed an OWC 115GB Mercury EXTREME Pro SSD as a second hard drive in my 27/i5 Mid 2010 2.8GHz iMac.  I did not change any other configuration setting and the original hard drive is configured as shipped.  After shutting everything up the internal fan(s) spin extremely loud (especially on the left/cpu side as you are facing the screen).  I installed istat pro and while the temperatures look good to me, it says the CPU fan is not running.  I've been searching online for days and can't find anyone else that has the same problem.  I've taken the iMac apart twice since the problem started and can't find anything broken, connected upside down, or plugged into the wrong spot.  Has anyone by chance run into this before?  Thanks for the help!  I posted a copy of the istat readings below.

    Hey,
I heard something about this problem with 2009/2010 imacs: putting in harddrives by your self causes problems with the fan (spinning at full speed all the time), because they are using special harddrives that have a heat sensor built in. without this built in heatsensor, the system doesnt know the temperature of the hardware and runs the fan full throttle just to be sure it doesnt get to hot.
i only have a german source for this though: http://www.macnews.de/mac/imac-2011-festplatte-lasst-sich-dank-proprietarer-appl e-firmware-nicht-austauschen-173448
According to that source there are two ways to fix the problem: eather you use a harddrive that carries a built in heat sensor, or you put in an externel heatsensor.
aaah: just found an english source:

this should be your issue. i hope i could help!

  • Satellite A110 shut down suddenly - CPU fan is not working

    Hello!
The CPU fan on my brand new A110 is not working. The notebook will shut down suddenly, without hibernation or standby for any CPU consuming activity.
Can it be linked to a configuration/ software problem? If so, how to check it?
    Many thanks.

    Hi
For me it seems like a hardware malfunction. If the fan does not work as it should then it has nothing to do with the software.
The A110 seems to be a very new unit and I dont think the dust and debris are responsible for such automatically shut downs.
Why you dont take your warranty??? If the warranty is valid everything should be checked and replaced for free

  • After latest update Mountain Lion, fan never stop working!

    Hi all
After latest update (26/9/2012 in my case) of Mountain Lion, the fan start working and never stops (Macbook pro 5,5).
    Any other have sam issue?
Already tried to reboot SMC and delete everything starting from snow leopard but problem still exist!!!
    Thanks.

I keep an old wired keyboard and wired mouse for just such emergencies, but that is not helping you now.  There are at least a couple of things that could account for the disappearance of the Bluetooth preference pane.
There may have been a glitch in the installation.
The preference pane will not be displayed if the bluetooth transceiver was not detected when the computer started.
This may seem too obvious, but try completely powering down using the power button on your Mac mini. Wait at least 30 seconds for everything in the mini to fully discharge. While you are waiting to restart, check/replace the batteries in your wireless keyboard and mouse or trackpad. Restart using the power button on the Mac mini.
If that does not work almost anything else will require the use of a wired keyboard and mouse. For years I have kept a wired keyboard and mouse around for just such an emergency, but in a fit of spring cleaning they were discarded. I ended up having to buy a cheap USB mouse and keyboard at Radio Shack (under $20 for the pair but no command key). But, with any kind of luck, you should be able to borrow a wired keyboard and mouse to get this fixed. Once you have a functioning keyboard and mouse you could...
Be sure Bluetooth is turned ON in System Preferences
Install the OS X 10.8.4 (Combo) updater or
Boot into the recovery drive (Reboot while holding down Command + R) and reinstall OS X 10.8.4

  • My fans have stopped working (6 months old 13")

So today I was listening to some music on my mac when all of a sudden there was a strange sound, like if something got caught up in my fans or my fans were hitting something. I quickly shut the mac off and started it up again, I was happy there wasnt any noices from my fans anymore, but when I investigated further it seemed that none of my fans are running?? Im a bit of a noob with macs but I installed iStat and Fan Monitor to check and it doesnt seem like either of my fans are running. In iStat it doesnt even show right or left fan, only exhaust: 0 rpm.I tried to run some games and the CPU temperature rocketed to 99 celsius pretty fast and there was no fans running whatsoever.
Is there anything else I could do to check/try to fix it? (except opening it up?) Or is my only option to send it in for repair? (And will it be free seeing as my mac is still under the warranty?)

Any components found to be faulty due to be manfacturing are replaced for free under warranty.

  • My fan stopped working

my fan suddenly stopped working and the computor shuts down

The fan could have stopped for a few reasons. It could have blockage such as dust/hair preventing it from spinning. It could be physically broken and unable to turn. It could be a motherboard/BIOS issue.
You can take the notebook apart but it's not as easy as removing a panel on the bottom.
    Is it still under warranty?

  • GPU Fan stop working.

    Hi Everyone,
I just bought this laptop HP Pavilion dv6-6009tx Entertainment Notebook PC  a year ago, from my school's roadshow. Until recently, the fan stops working... my computer started to heat up real bad to around 70 degree celcius. I still have 2 year warranty for this laptop. Can I ask if hardware failure replacement is covered by the warranty? Cheers!
    - Alan.

If the fan has stopped working HP will (should) fix it under warranty. Call them and report it.

  • Fan stopped working

My MacBook Pro is getting very hot and I think that may mean the fan has stopped working. Is this something I can replace?

Yes if it is the fan, you can replace it if you are fairly techincal/mechanical. You will need to have the model # which you can find here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4132
    You can check the internet by searching replace Macbook Pro Fan, there are sites for parts and how to vids, like the folowing;
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Core+Duo+Model+A1150+Left+Fan+Re placement/501
You will need some tools, #00 phillips, triwing screw drivers, etc..
If you are not comfortable, you can bring it to an Apple genius bar for a FREE diagnosis/repair quote.
Also try an SMC reset to see if it may be the fan controller setting:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Follow directions for the battery that you have, you can remove yourself, or a battery you should not remove yourself

  • Cpu Fan Problems

Hi everyone, I am having some issues with my desktop. I have an HP Pavillion p6710f and just recently my cpu fan stopped working. I thought at first that it was just the fan itself, so I bought a fan from Best Buy and installed it in my computer. After encountering the same problem with the fan not turning on when I started the computer, I think that it might be the slot in the motherboard that is the problem. I bypassed the motherboard outlet by plugging my cpu fan directly into the power supply. That works but my desktop still thinks there is no cpu fan plugged in because it is not in the normal slot. I went into my desktop's BIOS to see if I could control the cpu fan settings there but I did not find anything.
If anyone can figure out what is wrong with my fan sensor (possibly need a special kind of fan) or how to bypass my specific computer's cpu fan settings please let me know. Thanks!

    yeah i cleaned it today
thinking of getting a new one as u suggest
was wondering tho might it be the power supply?
    thanks for the prompt reply
