Cpu graphs

Ive seen screenshots in the past that show some little cpu graphs up in the menu bar. can someone point me to where i can get these graphs for my mac? also, was wondering if they are available for my 10.4 macs too.
thanks,

  • OnCommand Performance Manager CPU Graphs?

All, Does the OnCommand Performance Manager CPU graphs report average CPU utilization or ANY load? Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi, As per the documentation: Cluster CPU TimeDisplays a graph of the CPU usage time, in ms, for all nodes in the cluster used by the selected workload. The graph displays the combined CPU usage time for network processing and data processing. The CPU time for system-defined workloads that are associated to the selected workload, and are using the same nodes for data processing, is also included. You can use the chart to determine if the workload is a high consumer of the CPU resources on the cluster. You can also use the chart, in combination with the Reads/writes latency chart under the Response Time chart, or the Reads/writes/other chart under the Operations chart, to determine how changes to workload activity over time impact cluster CPU utilization. Thanks

  • NIce state not showing in CPU graphs

I was triggered by the "nice" question from Wayne T.
I have a few programs (namely seti@home) that run in nice state, but Activity Monitor doesn't show it (in blue); everything is in user state (green). This applies the the MenuMeter graph, too.
Is this happening to anybody else?
    Any workarounds?
    Ciao,

    Hi Ermano,
You should submit this as a bug report to Apple at bugreport.apple.com

  • How to measure true CPU usage?

    Hello,
I have a program that runs on a Windows XP 32 bits machine with JRE 6u16 (8 [email protected], 16gig ram). This program gets 100,000 messages per minute, does something with it and republishes the data.
We recently moved the same program to a Linux box, same spec, 64 bits however.
When running Visual VM via JMX on both in //, we can notice huge CPU utilization on the Linux box, vs. the Windows one.
I expected the Linux version to kick arse.
My question is, how to effectively measure raw performance on a multiple-CPU machine, Windows and Linux?
Also, how does the CPU graph works in jConsole or VisualVM? Average of all CPUs?
    Thx v much

    Take a look at this.

  • Lightroom Mobile Sync - Extremely High CPU Usage/Sync Process Causes LR To Lag

Since my other thread doesn't seem to be getting any responses, I'm pasting what I've found here. Please keep in mind I am not a beginner with Lightroom and consider myself very familiar with Lightroom's features excluding the new mobile sync.
    1st message:
I'm on Lr 5.5 and using the 30 day trial of Adobe CC to try syncing one collection of slight more than 1000 images. Despite already having generated the Smart Previews, I can see my CPU crunching through image after image (the rolling hills pattern in the task manager) while doing the sync. I was assuming, since I already created the Smart Previews, that the sync of this collection would begin immediately and be done by simply uploading all of the existing Smart Previews. The Smart Previews folder of the catalog is 871MB and has stayed the same despite the CPU obviously doing *something*. As it is now, the sync progress is incredibly slow, almost at a pace like it's actually exporting full-res JPGs from the RAW images (as a comparison only, I know this should not be what it's actually doing).
Another side effect of this is that I'm basically unable to use my computer for other tasks due to the high CPU utilization.
    Win 7 x64 / Lightroom 5.5
    Intel i5 2500k OC'd 4.5GHz
    16GB RAM
SSD for OS, separate SSD for working catalog and files
    2nd message:
As a follow up, now Lightroom thinks all 1026 photos are synced (as shown in "All Sync Photographs" portion of the Catalog though all images after the 832nd image show the sync icon per image stuck at "Building Previews for Lightroom Mobile" and the status at the top left corner has been stuck at "Syncing 194 photos" for over 12 hours. Is there no option to force another sync via Lightroom Desktop and also force the iOS app to manually refresh (perhaps by pulling down on the collections view, like refreshing via the Mail app)?
    3rd message:
One more update, I went into Preferences and deleted all mobile data, which automatically signed me out of Adobe CC and then I signed back in. Please keep in mind the Smart Previews were long generated before even starting the trial, and I also manually generated them again (it ran through quickly since it found they were already generated) many times. Now that I'm re-syncing my collection of 1026 images, I can clearly see Lightroom using the CPU to regenerate the Smart Previews which already exist. I have no idea why it's doing this except that it's making the process of uploading the Smart Previews extremely slow. I hope this time around it will at least sync all 1026 images to the cloud.
    4th message:
All 1026 images synced just fine and I could run through my culling workflow on the iPad/iPhone perfectly. Now I'm on a new catalog (my current workflow unfortunately uses one catalog per event) and I see the same problem: Smart Previews already generated but when syncing, Lightroom seems to re-generate them again anyway (or take up a lot of CPU simply to upload the existing Smart Previews). Can anyone else chime in on what their CPU utilization is like during the sync process when Smart Previews are already created?
    New information:
Now I'm editing a catalog of images that is synced to Lightroom Mobile and notice that my workflow has gotten even slower between photos (relative to what it was before, this is not a discussion about how fast/slow LR should perform). Obviously Lightroom is syncing the edited settings to the cloud, but I can see my CPU running intensively (all 4 cores) on every image I edit and the CPU utilization graph looks different than before I started using LR mobile sync. It still feels like every change isn't simply syncing an SQLite database change but re-generating a Smart Preview to go with it (I'm not saying this is definitely what's happening, but something is intensively using the CPU that wasn't prior to using LR Mobile).
For example: I only update the tint +5 on an image. I see the CPU spike up to around 30-40%, then falls back down, then back up to 100%, then back down to another smaller spike while Lightroom says "Syncing 1 photo".  I've attached a screenshot of my CPU graph when doing this edit on just one image. During this entire time, if I try to move onto edit another image, the program is noticeably slower to respond than it was prior to using LR mobile, due to the fact that there appear to be much more CPU intensive tasks running to sync the previous edit. This is proven by un-syncing the collection and immediately the lag goes away.
I'd be happy to test/try anything you have in mind, because it's my understanding that re-syncing photos that are edited that are already in the cloud should be simply updating the database file rather than require regenerating any Smart Previews or other image data. If indeed that's what it should be doing, then some other portion of LR is causing massive CPU usage. If this continues, I will probably not choose to proceed with a subscription despite the fact that i think LR mobile adds a lot of value and boosts my workflow significantly if it wasn't causing the program to lag so badly in the process.
I know this message was incredibly long and probably tedious to read through so thanks in advance to anyone who gets through it
    -Jeff

Thanks for reporting. Just passed  along your info to some of our devs. One of the things that needs to be created (beside smart previews) during an initial sync are thumbnails + previews for the LrM app - Guido
    Hi Guido,
Thanks for pointing this out. I realized the same thing when I tried syncing a collection for offline mode and found out the required space sounded more like Previews + Smart Previews rather than just the Smart Previews.
    greule wrote:
Hi Jeff, are your images particularly large or do you make a lot of changes which you save to the original file as part of your workflow?
The CPU usage is almost certainly from us uploading JPEG previews not the Smart Previews - particularly during develop edits as these force new JPEG previews to be sent from Lightroom desktop, but would not force new Smart Previews (unless the develop edits are modifying the original file making us think the Smart Preview is out of date) to be sent.
    Guido
My images are full-resolution ~22mp Canon 5D Mark III RAW files so they're fairly large. Even if I only make one basic change such as exposure changes, I saw the issue. By "save to the original file" I'm assuming metadata changes such as timestamps, otherwise edits to the images aren't actually written to the original file. I'm only doing develop module edits so I shouldn't be touching the original file at all at this point in my workflow.
I think it makes sense now that you mention that new JPEG previews need to be generated and sent to the cloud due to updated develop edits. My concern is that this seems to be done in real-time as opposed to how Lightroom Desktop works (which is to render a new Standard Preview or 1:1 Preview on demand, which means only one is being rendered at any given time while viewing it in Loupe View or possibly 2 in Compare View). If I edit, for example, 10 images quickly in a row, once the sync kicks in a few seconds later, editing the 11th image is severely hindered due to the previous 10 images' JPEG previews being rendered and sync'd to the cloud (I'm assuming the upload portion doesn't take much CPU, but the JPEG render will utilize CPU resources to the fullest if it can). Rendering Standard/1:1 Previews locally and being able to walk away while the process finishes works because it is at the start of my workflow, but having to deal with on-the-fly preview rendering while I'm editing greatly impacts my ability to edit. Perhaps there can be a way to limit max CPU utilization for background sync tasks?
It may help to know that I'm running a dual-monitor setup, with Lightroom on a 27" 2560x1440 display maximized to fit the display (2nd display not running LR's 2nd monitor). Since I'm using a retina iPad, the optimal Standard Previews resolution should be the same at 2880 pixels.
    Thanks again for the help!

  • Our MacbookPro began running very slow a few days ago. I ran disk repair, permissions repair, and restored the OS from the Apple server. Kernal_Task appears to be using excessive CPU.

I uninstalled all of the Intego products. I restarted the laptop, also ran disk repair and permissions repair again. Then allowed the machine to run with no apps active, just in case the OS was perfroming cleanup funtions. Results: No discernible improvement in performance. The kernal_task shows 500+% and the CPU graph shows 70%-80%.
There is one hardware issue: The magsafe battery port stopped charging the battery, so the laptop must be plugged in all the time.

  • Fully utilizing all CPU's for a LabVIEW application

    Hi All,
Have any of you figured out how to harness all of the CPU's in modern machines?
    Backgroud:
I have an application that does a lot of signal processing and it was pegging the CPU of the machine it was originally deployed on for many minutes.
As a quick first step we suggested the customer try the application on a new high-end machine. THey did and the preformance improved ...
    BUT...
    When we look at the
    Task Manager >>> Perfomance tab
it appears we are not not utilizing all of the available CPU's.
This observation is based on the 8 CPU graphs displayed in the Task Manager.
The first 4 graphs show very heavy CPU useage but the reamining four graphs show little or no loads.
I am guessing that this may be due to LV (8.X) using a default of 4 threads for each execution system.
Since the last time we were on-site, I have looked at
    ...\LabVIEW\vi.lib\utility\sysinfo.llb\threadconfig.vi
and it appears all I have to do is run that utility one time and save the config as 8 threads for each execution system.
Now before I send someone back to site, I'd like to find out if someone has traveled this road before me and would like to share their wisdom.
    Thank you,
    Ben

LabVIEW's default thread creation logic is to create the max of (number of cores, 4). The bug we had is that we inadvertently limited this to four (no humorous comments please ).
    What does the utility do?
The utility writes some settings to your ini file if different than default. When you run the utility, it displays the number of processors you have in a field at the top. It displays the number of threads being used for each priority in a section below. For a machine with 1-4 cores, the default thread count will be four. For a machine with 8 cores, the default thread count "should" be 8 (and, as of LabVIEW 8.5, it is).

The problem that I am having is in trying to specify the internal color of the cpu graph for the average cpu activity:
    ${cpugraph cpu0 40,200 237BEE -l}
I want to keep the boarder of the graph the same darkish grey color as the rest of the widget but I want to change the color of the portion of the graph inside the boarder to a blue color, e.g. the hex color in the code above, or more specifically to match the blue that I am using in my Archey and prompt in urxvt.
I looked up the Conky variable defintions for how to do this and apparently you specifiy gradientcolor1 and gradientcolor2 after the size definition, similar to how I have done it in my conifg (I know that I am only using one color in the above code but it is still not working even when I define two different colors).
Here is a picture of my desktop:
    http://ompldr.org/vZzR6dw
As you can see the internal portion of the graph is the same grey color as the majority of the widget.  I searched extensively on the forums and Google for a solution but everything that I try doesn't work.
    Any suggestions?

I hope this is 'fixed' by Apple in a mail.app update.
Let them know what you want via the feedback channel:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
But Mail has never had a provision for setting the default font, size, or color in its preferences and there is no indication this will ever be changed.

  • Constant CPU and Disk Activity

I just upgraded my MBP from Tiger to Leopard, and also upgraded from trial to full .Mac account, so I now have an iDisk for the first time.
I have iStat Menus installed and where, before the upgrades, the CPU graph showed a very low level of activity (almost zero) when the computer was idle, it now looks like a picket fence, with spikes reaching almost to the top of the graph. The disk activity graph exactly matches the CPU graph with regular spikes, which occur about very 7-8 seconds.
I opened Activity Monitor, and the highest usage switches between 'Sync Server' (with a value of anything from 2 to 9) and 'kernel-task' (with a value of around 2.5). Something called 'mds' sometimes pops up to the top (with values of 2-3). It appears the culprit is 'Sync Server'. I've tried iDisk sync set to 'Manually', and also with it turned off altogether, but it makes no difference.
Does anyone know what's going on here and, more importantly, how to get my MBP to relax again.
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve = : ^ )

I'm resurrecting this question because the problem still exists. Restarting the computer always stops the spikes but they always start up again at some point (I'm yet to pinpoint a cause) and, once happening, I can quit all running apps (except Finder) and they persist, and they seem to occur about 10 secs. apart.
The spikes occur in both cores but, if one core has a big spike (close to 100%) the other's is small and vice versa. Or they both have moderate spikes. It seems the total usage is about the same for every spike, though spread differently between the two cores.
And the HD still shows activity at the same rate as the spikes.
Any ideas what I should look for?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve = : ^ )

  • Performance graphs in EM console

    Hi,
We have accidentally changed the system data to 2006-03-10. After few hours we have corrected the date. But after that the CPU graph in performance page shows future dates (from today to 2006-03-10) . So we can’t monitor online CPU activities. You can simulate this by simply change your system date to next month date.
    Version –Oracle 10g on Linux ES4 .
Pls. let us know if you know any solution for this issue. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest you restart Enterprise manager and Agent.

  • Conky - CPU use discrepancy

Just trying out Conky for the first time, and I think everything is working but the CPU load. It seems to be almost inverted from what my CPU load is showing via 'top' or the 'gnome-system-monitor' (e.g. if there's a load of 5% per gnome or top, conky will show cpu use at ~95%).
I've looked through the man page and the sourceforge site and other people's posted conkyrc files online. The values for the process cpu usage seem to be fine, and track with 'top' output.
I have an hp dv6000 (dual amd 64).
Here are the applicable lines from my .conkyrc:
    # number of cpu samples to average
    # set to 1 to disable averaging
    cpu_avg_samples 2
    $color0[ CPU ] $hr $color1
    CPU Usage: ${cpu}% $alignr $freq_g GHz
    Core 0: ${color 3399FF}${cpu cpu1}% ${cpubar cpu1 6,75} $color1 Core 1: ${color 9933FF}${cpu cpu2}% ${cpubar cpu2}$color1
    Cpu Graph:
    ${alignr 24}${cpugraph 24,200 1A2B38 D9DBE1}
    Any ideas??
    Thanks, Scott

Yes. It is a HUGE resource hog. I am running win7 64bit with pleanty of HD space, a high-end gaming graphics card, and 16GB ram. It takes a lot of time to enter a symbol (sometimes more than 5 seconds), more time to save, and sometimes brings my computer to a standstill for over a minute. Oh, and Edge also crashes completely on occasion when trying to save or enter a symbol... I hope Adobe fixes this, but I am a Flash developer moving to Edge, so I expect poor-preformance with memory and cpu. Works better if you don't test in firefox. Also exit completely out of the code editor before saving, that helps the save problems.

  • K8T Master 2 FAR dual Opteron 250 Vista 64bit BIOS 1.4 only 1 CPU show!!! Help!!

    Hi,
I am new to this forum but had been working on this problems for a week!
    Here my system:
    MSI K8t Master 2 FAR
    ECC ram 2GB
Dual Opteron 250 replaced the dual Opteron 242 one week ago
    BIOS upgrade to 1.4
Window Vista 64bit from Window XP Pro
The POST, Device Manager detect two new CPUs. However, there are only one CPU being utilize in task manager (yes, I have check one graph per CPU). It appear from the forum that BIOS 1.35B5? would work but I could not find it. Try to install Window XP Pro but failed (flopppy drive does not work).
Any help and suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

With BIOS 1.1 and dual Opteron 242, I have both CPU work as shown by Device manager and task manager (two CPU graphs). I can only get one CPU work since I upgrade to Opteron 250 and BIOS 1.4. Unfortunately BIOS 1.1 do not support Opteron 250.

I tried. More stable then 1.47, but not fully workable. Second CPU dont work, Smart fan dont work, if 4Gb installed -> CPU kernel time load 60-70% permanently. Last stable workable release is 1.35, but i have slow down if install LSI 21320R.
1.35 appear to be last stable version reported by users

  • CPU speed up and down in Hardware Monitor...is this normal?

Just downloaded the newest version of Hardware Monitor, and the CPU graph is bouncing constantly between 2000 and 2667 mHz. Is this normal?
None of the temperatures shown seem abnormal...CPU cores are all between 30 and 33 degrees C, the stock 512mb RAM modules are the hottest things at 53-55C.

Basically the Core 2 series processors do tend to save a considerable amount of wattage by simple stepping down a little. I have to say that it's quite remarkable given it's only a 667MHz clock speed drop rather than the usual halving to get the same power savings.

  • P75-a7200 - CPU max 33% at .79 Ghz

Im running handbrake and the max CPU utilization I can get is .79 Ghz. It states the max speed of the CPU is 2.40 Ghz and it sees 4 cores and 8 logical processors.
I bought an i7 for speed, this is slower then the i3 it replaced. What can I do to adjust the speed? Its plugged in and set to performance in the settings menu. I also made sure 100% cpu is avaliable under the advanced tab. Its not doing anything else so its not a overheating or resourece issue. Anyone have any info?
I downloaded Prime95 to test the CPU and HWMonitor to monitor the computer. CPU usage is the same - 33% @ .79 Ghz.
I can see the temps (started high 40's, running now in low to mid 50's) of each for cores going up, but the power levels match the CPU utilization as it's power draws are
    Packages - 11.88
    IA cores - 6.33
    GT - .02
    Uncore - 5.53
I would expect since the CPU is rated for 47watts, these numbers reflect that its either broken/damaged, or it has somehow been artificially throttled.
Can anyone help me. I got a screaming deal n this laptop but now I'm thinking it might be broken. I can return it in the next 4 days. I'd really love to keep it so any advice would be appreciated.

Im not sure what I did, but ive gotten the CPU to run at full speed. In the resource monitor it shows up to 133% CPU usage, which Im assuming is turbo boost.
I do think it was some kind of artificial limiting though as the cpu graphs had a blue line across them at 33%, which is where the CPU max was. I have no idea what program was doing it, but that blue line is now gone.
I did access the bios, and there is a feature called dynamic range (i think) that can either allow CPU to work with full power, or keep it locked down with a reduced power mode, but when I checked it it was set to full power. If this happens again it will be one of the first places I look.
The only thing that I did that I feel might have made a difference, though it would have to be a glitch, is adjust the CPU performance in the advanced tab under the power plan menu. (control panel > hardware and sound > Power options > select high performance then go to change plan settings > change advanced power settings > processor power management . It has options for minimum and maximum. I changed them all to 100%. I use laptops mostly as a desktop replacement that can be mobile in a pinch, so battery life is typically not a concern. It was set at minimum 5% on battery before I set it to 100%. Battery settings shouldnt effect the CPU when its plugged in (hence why I think it might have been a glitch). Im not saying for sure this fixed the issue, but shortly after making the change I saw the CPU was working at full speed.
In any event I've been running Prime95 and I've done a bit of 1080p encoding and the system has been running flawlessly. I'm hoping if I keep pushing it, if there is a problem, i'll get it to show up. Thanks for the response thogh, I really appreciate your time and the fact that you and others here are willing to help total strangers. Thanks.

  • K8N Neo2-FX new CPU temperature problem

Well, I'm not sure if this problem is unique, but I didn't find any help by using search or google.
Problem is this: CPU temperature keeps going up slowly but very persistent and then the computer shuts down about somewhere between 80-82 degrees Celsius (says BIOS). Heatsink is warm when is touch it, i would say the CPU is max 40-50 degrees "hot". CPU is 3500+ Venice. These 2 are brand new parts. BIOS version is 1.B.
Computer was running fine one evening, night and morning (about 10 hours) with Windows XP, and then all started: shutdown. I waited couple minutes, re-started, went to BIOS H/W monitor. Temperature reading was about 50, then it was slowly rising to 80 degrees and shutdown. I instantly restarted and went to BIOS. Temp was about 70 and rising. I shutdown it manually, touched the heatsink and it felt perfectly normal (warm). I'm using the boxed cooler that came with the CPU. Fan speed is about 3150 rpm.
Right now only attached parts are PSU, MB, CPU, AGP card and 512MB DDR so I just can go to BIOS and check the temp. I have tried different PSU, AGP card and memory, the problem stays. It always starts from a reasonable value: 25 degrees after being down for a while and higher if i have tried it on. It takes about 2 minutes to go from 30 to 80 degrees.
Is this a sensor problem, CPU problem or what? One more notice: Motherbard monitor gave strange temps in Windows. Most of the time it was OK (50-55), but then both values were 0, and then back to normal. I  noticed the zero values before the 1st crash too so this can be a sensor problem.
Installation failure is not possible, i have worked with computer HW over 10 years. I removed the heatsink, put it back and it fits perfectly. There is no way the CPU is 80 degrees hot. I've touched thousands warm heatsinks.
Should I send the MB/CPU package back or do you have any tricks I can try?
Thanks for reading and sharing my pain

Quote from: inf on 26-October-06, 14:57:17
I didn't change the thermal compound when I removed the heatsink. I checked that it is OK, some sort of gray grease, but not anything compared to arctic silver, but not a rubbery "pad" either.
Like I said that original compound is a one shot deal.  It needs to be replaced... with the same material according to AMD for warranty purposes.
    Quote
    - I decided to start the computer to Windows, everything seemed to be ok, MBM showed 42 degrees about 1 minute. Then it got to 45-46 and stayed there.
    - I downloaded the SpeedFan and installed it. Core temp 45, Vcore 1,40 - 1,41V. Stared the screen couple minutes, stable.
    - I decided to try with a load. I Started 3DMark2001 for 5s and shut it. Core temp was 65! Very fast peak  Then it went down to 53 and the weird dance began... 53-63-54-64-54-64-53-63... with the same rate than SpeedFan refresh rate. This state was stable now, I stared the screen 5 minutes and the graph showed 10 degree peaks all the time, fully idle CPU.
    - Another start with 3DMark, now 30s and i halted it. 80 degrees! Heatsink was as warm as normal heatsink can be in idle computers. And then it went back to 53-63-53-63 dance.
    - 15 minutes passed and I decided to boot to see BIOS values.
Weirdest part: BIOS is showing 67 degrees, rising 1 degree/ 2 secs to 80 and shutdown  Vcore 1,37 - 1,39.
Conclusion: Windows is more stable than BIOS  In BIOS it raises the temp to 80 and crashes, but in Windows I can do surfing and normal work and the temps stays reasonable as long as I put minimal load to CPU.
Like Syar said, CPU "halts" in Windows will result in lower temp.
    Quote
Now I really think there is some kind of sensor failure. 10 degree dance in idle state is not normal. Fast peaks are normal if the heatsink is not touching the whole CPU (core) surface, but in this case it's fine. Crashing in BIOS is 1st time for me if the computer is idle stable in Windows. I'm sending both back, CPU and MB.
When you get the 10 degree jump, what does SpeedFan show for CPU usage?  Also Look in Task manager/Performance to see what the CPU graph looks like and if you run Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com you will be able to see which process is using CPU.  It sounds to me like there is a process which is running at some interval and that just a small amount of CPU usage is boosting temperature excessively.  Before giving up on it, I'd recheck heatsink fitting with fresh thermal compound -- a good heatsink paste, like Artic Silver will be sufficient -- to be sure, before giving up on it.
