% CPU is consistently very low, never reaches over 30%. Nothing gets more than 5% anytime!

I used to have the problem of over 100% CPU usage all the time, but the last few months, it's been the opposite problem. %CPU is never above 30%. Individual apps never get more than 10% ever, and it's more like 3-5% at any time. System and User apps are getting the same treatment.
I see Index running constantly, and all applications hang after every click or swipe.
I've verified and repaired permissions numerous times. Every time, there seems to be these little errors.
What could I try?

Problem description:
CPU % Usage is very low all the time. Even when I have many operations running, and many of them are usually high-CPU users.
This is the EtreCheck profile after having rebooted 2 times. It seems like it is running a little better now, but it still took 15 minutes to boot up. But apps are now running sometimes in the double digits!

My CPU is running very low and so far nothing helped

Hello everybody, first sorry for my bad English (probably)
So, my PC is DELL Inspiron 1570 (CPU - Core 2 Duo SU7300 2x1,3 GHz) when I watch videos on youtube for example, my PC "lags" it's like the processor is 0.3 Ghz its the same feeling. If I watch HD video on full screen its HELL, can't
see anything. The same thing is with gaming and I play (Warcraft III) very old game for this PC. Four years ago, when u bought it, there was n problem, the problems started few months ago, slightly. Don't think I'm somekind of idiot with 1000 running
processes.
Let me explain what have I done so far to fix it, and nothing worked:
Reinstal OS, cleaning the inner of the laptop, Spydoctor check, CCleaner check, DLL fixer check, TuneUp check, Disc defragmentation (deep with restart) Full virus scan, stopped most of the useless Services, took the startup processes to minimum (only the antivirus).
Also i have a cooler fan, my stock fan is forced to blow always (it didn't fix my problems so far) My average CPU temp is 50 and the peak is 60.
I stopped the Speedstep technology.
My HDD is 40% full.
My drivers are up to date, but not the OS updates, for obvious reasons :/ (im Bulgarian)
Even my PS6 lags when i try to work, but last year it was OK.
Also, when i try to watch video or play this old game, there is aaaaa, how to say, mmm "pause" for about a second in intervals of 2-5 minutes. I've never seen something like this, and believe me, I used to fix most of the PCs in the neighbourhood
The PC is 4 years old, and the first reinstall i made was 7-8 months ago, when the problems started, and i was forced to do it... but as i said it doesn't help.
Is it hardware issue? Can you guys help me to diagnose this crap, or even better to fix it :). I'll be very gracefull, if we manage to solve it. I can't afford a new one :s.
Last words: It's like the PC's parameters are very very very low, and tried everything to boost it up.

Did this occur on just when you attempt to watch something and paly old games? How about the new game and other behaviour?
Because you have already reinstalled operating system and trie many other solution. I suspect it might be caused by video card.
It's recommend you take a hardware test for your computer.

Very low signal reaching Apple TV

Is there a way to boost the Apple TV antenna? I only have a one bar signal, but I can't move the router (d-link 802.11n) from it's location downstairs, and can't move the Apple TV from it's location upstairs. (An ipod or laptop, when used in the same room as the Apple TV location, have no problems with the WiFi.)

The Apple TV quite likely has more equipment near to or around it that might cause some level if interference. You might consider connecting it by Ethernet or power line adapters.

Pop-ups taking over browser - nothing gets rid of them

I continue to have pop-ups which completely take over Firefox - I'm not having similar problems with Safari or Internet Explorer. I have run Norton, SuperAntiSpyware, MalwareBytes, and TDSS Killer with no success. This issue is really making it difficult to use Firefox.

I note that you are using Norton safe search. I am not sure that has much if any benefit over what Firefox may do by default.
I do not see any addon listed that is likely to cause these problems.
It is possible that you have Malware that you have not yet found &/or you have not reset the changes such malware has made.
Make sure you scan with multiple and up-to-date tools.
Run scans with multiple and up-to-date tools. Hopefully it will be easily detected and removed. I would not suggest you try any manual hacks or edits of the Windows registry. (Once rogue files are removed any residual registry entry will not normally do any harm.)
Your problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

How do I change back to having "bookmark this page" on the top of the list and subordinate "all bookmarks" lower since I use former 100 times more than the later on a daily basis?

I create about 25 -50 new bookmarks daily for my business. So, it would seem user friendly to put that command at the top of the scroll down list. Maybe I am unique and others want to "show all bookmarks" repeatedly. HT4291 I just bought a used iPod touch that was held out as 2d generation. Turns out it is not. My problem is that I cannot reach the iStore or get more episodes for my podcasts when I am using wifi. Any help for a technical novice?

I purchased a used iPod touch advertised as 2d generation. I later found that it is first generation. I can use the device for my limited purposes but only when connected to my desktop. For some reason that I can't figure out, I am unable to download "more episodes" for my podcasts or otherwise connect to the iStore when using my wifi connection. Can anyone provide a fix for this problem. Note that my technical skill level is about 3 on a scale of 10.

Kernel_task is using more than 250% of CPU and My Macbook Pro (13 inch i7 8gb Ram Mid 2012) is getting heated, when ever running Facetime or Games.

When ever i try to use FaceTime or Counter Strike GO my CPU gets more than 250% usage and my mac gets really slow.. This is the same when ever i try to run any middle end applications not extreme ones. Tried googling and apple support communities uninstalled all my 3rd party softwares. any help??

The kernel is using excessive processor cycles. Below is a partial list of causes for this condition.
Thermal overload
This can be due to accumulation of dust, high ambient temperature, or to the malfunction of a cooling fan or temperature sensor. The kernel tries to compensate by throttling back the CPU's. You might see messages like the following in the Console window:
SMC::smcHandleInterruptEvent WARNING status=0x0 (0x40 not set) notif=0x0
The timestamps of those messages (if any) indicate the times, since the log was last cleared, when a processor was being throttled because of high temperature.
Note that if the problem is caused by a faulty sensor that reads too high, there may be no actual overheating.
The Apple Hardware Test, though not very reliable, is sometimes able to detect a bad fan or temperature sensor.
Using Apple Hardware Test
Encryption
Transferring large amounts of data to or from an encrypted disk image or FileVault volume puts an extra load on the kernel. If both the source and the destination are encrypted, the load may be doubled. If you transfer data from an encrypted disk image on an encrypted partition to another such image on another encrypted partition, the load may be quadrupled.
This issue probably doesn't affect late-model Macs with an Intel i-series, recent Xeon, or later processor. Those processors support hardware-accelerated encryption. You can determine what kind of processor you have by selectingAbout This Mac from the Apple menu in the menu bar.
Installed software
User-installed software that includes a device driver or other kernel code may thrash the kernel. Some system-monitoring applications, such as "iStat," can also contribute to the problem. You can test for this possibility bycompletely disabling or removing the software according to the developer's instructions, or booting in safe mode (with the shift key held down at the startup chime.) Note, however, that disabling a system modification without removing it or booting in safe mode may not be as easy as you think it is.
Corrupt NVRAM or SMC data
In some cases the issue has reportedly been resolved by resetting the NVRAM or the SMC.

Very low CPU scores

I made a go at this once before, but here we go again!!
My rig is scoring very low in the CPU benchmarking dept. My main concern is 3d Mark03 and aquamark. In 3d mark I'm scoring 250 for a CPU score, and my overall aquamark score is pretty bad too - 14288. I was scoring ~28k with my 28000+ setup and the same vid card. My Sandra scores seem okay, there all in line with the referance scores. I've been thinking maybe the problem lies with my memory, since the mem and cpu are directly connected could a mem problem be disguised as a CPU issue. I've got c'n'c enabled, but I've tried it w/o it enabled-no difference. I've tried one stick, different slots, I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance.

I am convinced your AGP GART is your problem. If all else fails, do a fresh install of Windows and load the 4N1 4.51 before your ATI drivers. If 3dMark03 is having trouble with CPU, chances are your games are suffering too, you may not know how great your setup really is yet.
Yeah, So I've found the problem, but how to fix it?? Funnny thing is I know I've checked it before and it was @ 8x, but I've also had to change it bacj to 8x from off before. My suggestions,
Charge only using High Power USB2.0 port at the back of your PC and not the low power USB 1.1 port at the front of the PC.
Change the USB cable, (maybe it is broken)
Try a wall charger.

Around three days after pulling the initial TransUnion credit report (sometime around 5/23/11) a representative from their office called and said that it appeared I'd be eligibile, had been chosen for processing, and that they would be sending a complete application. I was asked to provide three alternative credit letters, two months of bank statements, one month of paycheck stubs, and any documentation for adverse credit. The application that the USDA uses is a standard mortgage industry application. It will ask for all of your information for where you've lived and worked the past two years, assets, obligations, etc. You have to send them EVERY page of your bank statement even if the last page is a summary of the bank's privacy policy. If the last page of the statement you send says something like "5 of 6" and there is no page six, you're going to get a phone call. At this point they will begin your verifications and check all three of your credit reports. It's at this stage you're deemed to have acceptable credit or unacceptable credit. I'll elaborate below on the verifications. Credit:While the direct version of the USDA is not AS strict as other programs when it comes to your credit history, they are pretty strict. Your credit score absolutely does not matter. It's what is actually on your credit. You may have no unpaid collections or judgments and any collection or judgment you have paid must have been at least six months for collections and 12-months for judgments. You can have no more than one 30-day late on any credit card, student loan, etc. within the past 12-months. I assume there can be waivers depending on situations, but this didn't come up for me. Income:You must be considered low-income for your area. If you are $1 over the income cutoff, you will be sent to a bank to apply for a guaranteed loan. Your income must be consistent and must show a history. If my income had been just a little higher I would have had to apply for a guaranteed loan. Employment:Even though you send paycheck stubs, your employment will be verified. A verification will be sent to determine your eligibility and a follow-up phone call will be made before closing to make sure you are still employed. The USDA does NOT like The Work Number as it costs them money to verify your employment. If your company will only use The Work Number, log into The Work Number's website and print out your verification (you may have to pay for this yourself). Landlord verification:Your rental verification must be good. If you are currently late with your rent, have damaged your rental, or have been more than 30 days late more than once in a 24-month period, you are not considered to have acceptable credit. After the USDA has determined you are eligible for the program, you will be scheduled for an eligibility interview. People have asked what happens at these interviews on this forum and received answers like "Just go and see...." I was completely stressed out when I had to go for my interview because I was unsure what would happen at this interview. At the eligibility interview you will verify that all the information you put on your application was correct. You'll initial and date your application to verify that you confirmed the information. Your interviewer will discuss your credit history, credit score (even though they don't care what it is - mine was 565 mid), and they'll let you know what you've been determined eligible for. You'll discuss a few program guidelines, sign off on a few disclosures, and have a quick program orientation discussing things like monthly payments, improvements, etc. The interview lasts one to one and a half hours. You'll receive a certificate of eligibility at the end of this interview. Your certificate of eligibility will show how much you are eligible for, what your projected taxes and insurance will be, and what the note interest rate will be. The note rate can change until you are under contract on a house and the USDA has obligated your funds. My note rate is 4.25% and I was approved for $153,000. After you have the certificate of eligibility, you are free to sign a contract on a house. Your contract will need to allow for up to 60 days to close. My projected close date is by 9/22/11 but it could be as short as 30-45 days. One thing I do want to mention is dealing with real estate agents. Most people have never heard of this program and are quick to question it. One agent even told me she thought it was a scam and didn't want to be involved. My buyer's agent I eventually decided on then told me she didn't know how she would present my certificate of eligibility as an approval letter since it looks nothing like an approval letter. She stated I should look for alternative financing before we could contract on a house. I informed her that this loan is my alternative financing and if she doesn't know how to present the letter to a seller or seller's agent that we should void our contract and I would find someone who would. I looked at six houses with her and made an offer on the sixth house on Friday, July 22nd. My offer was accepted with no counter offer on Saturday, July 23rd. I haven't explained the complete process in this post and I will make another post at a later time covering things like property eligibility, closing, etc. I'll also let you all know how the process is going for me. If this is your only hope of a home loan as it was mine, DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED. These loans do get approved and they do get closed. Applying for a direct loan and being approved is not an overnight process. As with any government program, they do take time. There will be days and weeks when you have no idea what is going on. There will be times when you want to give up. Just stick with it. The payoff is there eventually. I'm purchasing a home that I would not have been able to purchase for many years using FHA or probably never using a conventional loan. My mortgage with the subsidy is $100 less than my rent and when I no longer need the subsidy my mortgage payment will only be $150 more than my rent. I'm moving from a 35 year old 650 sq. ft. apartment to an almost 2,000 sq. ft. four year old house. I'll try to answer all of the questions I've been asked at once... How did I find a house so quickly? While you can't contract on a house using this program until after you have an eligibility letter, nothing is stopping you from looking. I began looking at houses online, driving by them, and going to open houses in May of this year right after I applied. I narrowed the houses I was interested in down from 28 to six and the day after I received my certificate of eligibility my buyer's agent and I looked all all six of those houses. This is a program that is entirely dependent on the availability of funding, as others who have posted have shared. Once you have the certificate you need to be ready to move. If you wait to find a house, it is very possible that the program could lose funding during your home search. Know your area you want to live in, visit a few houses, just don't get your heart set on anything. In the two months it took me to be approved I saw houses I loved go under contract everyday. These were houses I loved, but I also had a list of 28 other houses to choose from. During the time it takes to get approved, make sure you are saving everything you can towards your prepaids. You can finance everything with the exception of the earnest money deposit and the first year of homeowner's insurance. My seller is paying my closing costs and my appraisal, home inspection, termite letter, and radon test will be billed to my closing statement. So far all I'm out of pocket is the $32 for the credit report, $75 for first time homeowner's education class (I'll mention this next), and $500 for the earnest money deposit. Regarding the homeowner's education, you can do this online. It's $75 through a company USDA will refer you to. It is literally the most boring two hours you will ever spend if you are already aware of how the real estate industry works. If you truly are new to this, it can be informative. You don't have to complete the education course until after you're approved but before you close, however my USDA office urged me to complete it as soon as possible. If funding gets limited, they close the loans that are ready to go and aren't waiting on anything. Wednesdayaddamsd, I don't mind telling you what my annual income is. I live in Greenville, SC and my annual income is $30,700. I go to school part time in the evening and work full time during the day. I qualified for the program and was $1,300 away from not being considered low income for my area. I was approved for $153,000 with a current note rate of 4.25%. The subsidy I qualified for brought down my rate to 1.25%, my annual insurance is estimated at $540, and my annual taxes are estimated at $1,040. I honestly don't know how the subsidy is calculated, however 1% is the lowest interest you will ever pay after the subsidy. The house I've contracted on is $135,000 with the seller paying my closing costs of about $3,500 and my payment with the subsidy, taxes, and insurance will be $540 over 33 years. This is $110 less than my rent on a 650 sq. ft. 30 year old apartment. Keep in mind that if you take the subsidy, it is recaptured. It's recaptured when you refinance, sell, or transfer title to your heirs when you die. There are limitations on the subsidy and they can never take more than half your equity minus things like initial equity, capital improvements, etc. If you refinance and don't roll the subsidy recapture into your new loan, it is indefinitely deferred and does not accrue interest. You can roll the subsidy recapture into your new loan with a 25% discount as long as you are not cashing out your equity and you retain the title to the house. As you can see, there are a lot of hoops you have to jump through to be eligible for and to purchase a home using this program. It's not easy. This was my only chance and only hope of purchasing a home and with this program I can afford a house in a decent and safe area. I'm getting everything I wanted in a house and then some. If you're trying to purchase a home through this program and funding is lost, your application is delayed, etc., I know it's difficult but hang in there. It will happen. I'm extremely fortunate that my area does not have a lot of rural areas and my USDA service center closes only 20 or so of these mortgages a year. There are areas that are very rural and the USDA offices are understaffed, overworked, under funded, and under paid. It's just a part of dealing with the government. You should definitely also keep in touch with the USDA office. If you are out of sight, you are out of mind... I called them on Monday and followed up with an email on Thursday of each week. I was never pushy, I always worded my emails to make it seem as if I would like to help ease the trouble of processing my application. Of course when the email was sent and the phone hung up, I cussed and screamed and called them names I felt bad about - especially after my eligibility interview and meeting them and my originator being a nice and sweet older lady. it's been my experience that the USDA staff wants to help you buy a home. If you treat them with respect and courtesy, they will do the same. They may not be able to tell you what you want to hear, but if you develop a working relationship with them they at least won't keep you in the dark. Very low arcsize problem.

For weeks now I've been scrambling to find a cause for our newly created Solaris 11 NAS slowness issue. The server has two SSD drives for Sol 11 in a mirrored rpool and four SATA drives in a mirror'd pool for data with many NFS mounts. It has 16GB of memory and a recently added Samsung SSD log drive for the data pool.
The server uses IP over InfiniBand as a storage network between a ESXi node hosting approx 15 NFS attached vm's.
We have great performance for approximately three days, then for no apparent reason, IO crawls. Going from upper 300MB/s range on the VM's down to 10-15MB/s. When looking on the Solaris side, I see the same throughput change eliminating the IB network or something with ESXi. When this state occurs, system memory goes from (in good state) 2.5G free to ~13GB free. The only solution to this state seems to be a reboot of Solaris.
After doing some research, I found some users out there(not on this forum) that had seen the same issue. They had found it revolved around the arc dropping to a very low state for no good reason. I looked when my server was slow and sure enough, my arc size was under 100M and I had over 13GB free. They had also found that the arc_no_grow flag was getting set to 1 and was not getting set back to 0 to allow the ARC to take back the memory from perceived memory pressure situation which they or myself have nothing running on the servers to create a memory pressure situation.
I have yet to find a fix for this or maybe even a work around. I attempted to set "zfs_arc_min" to 4GB, this change took effect but just like before, after a few days the arc dropped, only difference is this time its seems to be staying up around ~200MB and only dipping in the 90MB's very rarely allowing us to stay up at the time of this writing at over seven days. Since putting this in, IO doesn't bottom out like before, and allows us to still run about 50% of a normal IO.
I dont have dedupe or compression on anywhere. The arc_min set to 4GB is allowing us to at least use the NAS but its a shame that 13GB is free at all times that could be used for cache and we are not getting the great performance we know we can get for a few days after a reboot.

Thank you for your response and suggestions. The server memory is never affected by any process consuming memory or needing memory.I've yet to setup any backups or zfs replication. I was using a perl script called "arcstat.pl" to watch the arc this last time it happened. It literally went a arcsize of 10G down to 574M in under 20 minutes. At that time I was watching all the process memory consumption with prstat and top. I am going to setup sar as you suggested to help better watch things, thank you for that suggestion.

This was on 3/2/12 and the server is still up, arcz is still floating from 90M to at most I've seen looking through the logs ~700M. Before I set the zfs_arc_min, this looked the same with the exception of two things, arcz floated around the 40-50MB's, "c" around the same and IO was terrible.
