CPU July 2008

Hi,
Oracle has released CPU July 2008 Patchset.
is it necesarry to apply those patches, So far since june 2007 system gone live, I did not apply any CPU Patches to my present 10.2.0.1 Instance.
is it compulsary?

I also got an email from Oracle Suppor that.
The Critical Patch Update for July 2008 was released on July 15, 2008. Oracle strongly recommends applying the patches as soon as possible.
The Critical Patch Update Advisory is the starting point for relevant information. It includes the list of products affected, pointers to obtain the patches, a summary of the security vulnerabilities for each product suite, and links to other important documents. Supported products that are not listed in the "Supported Products and Components Affected" section of the advisory do not require new patches to be applied.
Also, it is essential to review the Critical Patch Update supporting documentation referenced in the Advisory before applying patches, as this is where you can find important pertinent information.
The Critical Patch Update Advisory is available at the following location:
Oracle Technology Network: http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/security/alerts.htm

• Anyone applied CPU july 2008 for windows 2003 64 AMD?

I am confused in section 3.3.7.1 paragraph 5 where instruction says to run catcpu_delta.sql if Patch21 was already installed and if not, run catcpu.sql
I am not sure what is Patch21? Is it Apr 08 cpu patch? I don't see any information on Patch 21...Anyone knows what they are talking about?

I think Note:342443.1 will clear up the confusion.
Patch 21 refers to "bundles", the PSE bundles that delivers patches between Patch Sets and CPUs, only on the Windows platforms.

• Oracle Critical Patch Update  - July 2008

Hi All,
How I can get the information about bug fixed in Oracle Critical Patch Update - July 2008?
or send me any link...
Thanks..

Well, it all depends on which specific release you are talking about. CPU's are provided for Oracle 9iR2 (9.2.0.8.0) up to the latest available oracle version. They are also available for other non RDBMS oracle products.
If you want to get information about CPU's you may take a look at this reference: --> Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - July 2008, from this point on you can drill down to find out information about your specific oracle version.
This information is publicly available and up to this point you don't need a support contract to review this information. Support contracts are required when you plan to download the specific patch pointed by the CPU document, and it depends not only on the Oracle release, but also on the particular OS platform.

But I have never seen anything from Oracle telling me to patch up the AS that is the OMS home, so that is my basic question. I only see OMS patches in Metalink, so it is a little confusing.
I guess I am leaning in the direction of YES as to the answer, but now I want to make sure.

Hey Naga, This is the WebCenter Interaction discussion area which is a different portal product than WebCenter.
You might want to try on their discussion board.
WebCenter Interaction hasn't released 11g yet, and won't until mid-next year(or so I hear).
Per the WCI statement of direction from 2/09
"WCI 11g is expected to support Windows Server 2008, IPv6 and 64-bit Windows in both Java and .NET versions. WCI 11g is also expected to support Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5."

• July 2008 CPU --- current OAS version is 10.1.2.1

current environment: 10.1.2.1 on RHEL3 64 bit.
There are some pretty scary bugs fixed with this CPU. However, as far as i can tell, the cpu can only be applied to 10.1.2.2.
Are the exploits fixed in 10.1.2.2 + July CPU also present in 10.1.2.1? I have an SR open with Oracle but haven't gotten an adequate response in over 3 days.
Are there compelling reasons to upgrade from 10.1.2.1 to 10.1.2.2? Are there more recent versions I should go to? (i'm off to go check on this now but thought I would ask in case someone is kind enough to respond with something other than rtfm :))
thanks!

the bugs most likely do exist in 10.1.2.1. CPU patches are no longer made for 10.1.2.1. Only 10.1.2.2 & 10.1.2.3 are on CPU schedules.
I have had good results from any 10.1.2.2 install. I've had a very few issues with 10.1.2.3, depending on enviorment (mostly when running on Windows)
As for going from 10.1.2.1 to 10.1.2.2, there are pages of bug and security fixes only avaliable for 10.1.2.2 & up, so yes there are compelling reasons (read the readme)
I recommend 10.1.2.2 with latest CPU patch

CPU are bundled patches, to apply such a patch you need to have latest OPatch i.e 10.2.0.3.4 or later and they cannot be applied using "apply" command instead the new command called "napply" should be used.
Read the patch README before doing the patching, it clearly mentions the OPatch reqt and the commands to be used.

• July 2008 Screenshots

Posting Guidelines
· DO NOT post full resolution screenshots!  You can use the "mogrify" command (pacman -S imagemagick) to make a thumbnail of your screenshot:
$ cp screenie.png thumb-screenie.png
$ mogrify -resize 20% thumb-screenie.png
Twenty percent of the original size is great for 1024x768 screenies.  You can then upload these images to your server and use the following code to show them on the forum:

This displays the thumbnail as a link to the screenie like this:
· Several websites also offer free image hosting, of these ImageShack is very popular and does a neat auto thumbnail:
Use the "Thumbnail for forums" link code that is supplied by ImageShack to post your thumbnail link.
· Once the new month begins please do not post new screenies in the old threads.
· If the screenshot has questionable material that might not be safe to view while at work or in a school setting, please post only a link and not a thumbnail, along with a mention of "Not Safe for Work". Posts that do not adhere to this are subject to deletion without notice at any time.
· Please try to include any links to your wallpaper or configs that you may have and/or the names of your icon theme, running apps, DE, etc. in the same post to reduce unnecessary clutter later.

• Mic boost, Audigy 2 ZS, WinXP 32 bit, july 2008 drive

Does it work for anyone in such combination? I turn it on, close the "advanced" window in default windows mixer, open advanced again and it's off again.
Downgraded to Oct 2006 drivers and it works like a charm (apart from the famouse 4GB ram bug). Upgraded to the latest drivers again, same as before.
Is there something i miss or is that another bug we wont see a fix for next 2 years.

There's a bunch of issues with the latest official drivers. Not many if any have been fixed since beta. I tried a lot of modified drivers and most of then didn't fix much. Lastest I tried PAX 6.0 messed up my whole system. I will stick to SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006.exe until some decent drivers will come out. Lets hope it won't be in 200 ::smileyvery-happy:. I sugest you to do the same.

• Update - July 2008

According to the link
[ http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/security/critical-patch-updates/cpujul2008.html ] to install the patch i should be in the oracle 10.2.0.2 - 10.2.0.4. Our oracle is 10.2.0.1, are we still affected of the said vulnerability? if so do we need to upgrade our version of oracle to required version? How to upgrade and is it free?
Thanks.

Our oracle is 10.2.0.1, are we still affected of the said vulnerability? There are many vulnerabilities listed on that page. some of them are listed from 9i. It is very much possible that you are affected by those (in case you are using them).
if so do we need to upgrade our version of oracle to required version? Yes you do.
How to upgrade and is it free? Refer metalink. Patch set is available on Metalink (depending on your operating system).
