CPU Multi core processor only using 1 core

I have a 12 core CPU which works fine when rendering in Premier Pro utilizing all 12 cores but when I render in Media Encoder it only uses 1 core. This is a recent event that has occurred recently, has anybody got an idea what is happening?

hanugro,
I did some searching, and the processor you want, is not available in many places.
Even TigerDirect.com doesn't even list this processor. And, it must be VERY EXPENSIVE ! ( I'm guessing it will be $1,500 ? ), the one you list has a 1333 MHz bus speed !!
This is the most expensive processor they have listed:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3241539
It is currently $579 ( as of today, Feb.14, 2008 )

  • Only half the cores/processors being used in bootcamp?

I have two mac pro computers that are both running bootcamp with Win 7 and both are giving me the same problem. One mac pro was purchased in 2011 and the other is early 2008.
When I run Cinibench on both these machines I find that only half the cores and processors are being used, more than doubling the render time for the same scenes run in OS X 10.6
I followed all the online installation guides and have had few problems with running all the programmes I use apart from Studio Max.  Studio Max runs perfectly well on these computers but like I say only uses half the processing power that should be available.
Does anyone have any suggestions for where I might have gone wrong with the installation or what I can do to rectify this problem.  Any suggestions would be most welcome
    Thanks in advance

If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or vice versa, you'll need to back up your files and choose the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. Then, you'll need to restore your files and reinstall your programs. For more information about performing a custom installation, see Installing and reinstalling Windows 7.

  • Dual Core Mac only using 30% processor power.

    Hi,
I'm running Motion on a Dual-core 2.3GHz G5 Power Mac. My Motion renders are really slow - and bring the whole system to a crawl.
Using Activity Monitor and Menu Meters, I can see that Motion is only using, at most, 50% processor power between the two cores.
The machine has 4GB of RAM so that shouldn't be an issue, and I've run the same Motion files on my old 2.0 Dual G5 at home and the renders use 95% of each processor and are much faster.
Is Motion not dual core aware?
    Thanks,
    Joe

CPU processing in Motion is not the workhorse. GPU does all the heavy lifting. What graphics card are you using?

  • After Effects Hangs on Initializing Media Core and Only Uses .40 GB or RAM

I actually have either 2 separate issues or one that effects both. The fist one is that once After Effects loads, I generally can't RAM preview for 1080p quality, and about 6-20 frames for 720p, depending on if I get lucky or not. I went into Memory and Multiprocessing in the preference and no matter what I set the RAM per CPU to, the Actual CPUs that will be used is always 0, so then I go to details and it says "Installed RAM: 11.99 GB." "Current RAM Usage: .28 GB" "Allowed RAM Usage: .40GB." Whenever I render a video it always uses up to 3% or 4% of my RAM but never any higher.
    And the second problem...
Whenever I start After Effects CS6 (and it happened in CS5.5) Trials it hangs on Initializing Media Core, for about 5 minutes, then it says Quicktime isn't installed. To fix that problem I have tried everything I could find in the 30+ hours I have spent on that problem. Turning off all firewalls, anti-virus, etc, updating, reinstalling, and everything in between. (Also I see dynamiclinkmanager.exe and  AfterFX.exe but not QT32.exe or PProHeadless.exe which need to be allowed through firewalls and such)
    I'm using After Effects CS6
    Windows 7 64-bit
    12 GB of RAM
Quicktime 7.7.2 and Itunes 10.6.3.25  Any ideas would be very much appreciated, thanks! ^.^

Ok, well I installed updates to my graphics driver, After Effects, and Windows, and unfortunately nothing worked, but from reading other forums, when I am using After Effects I should see QT32server.exe right? That doesn't show up in processes, but also I installed Premiere Pro to test dynamic link, and I always get an error "Failed to connect to Dynamic Link Manager." and when I hit Ctrl + Enter it says the same thing. ( I actually don't know what that hotkey does ) any ideas at all would be very much appreciated
Edit: I started thinking about it, my driver is an Nvidia GeForce GTS 450, which I didn't see on Adobe's supported list, is this the culprit behind the render problems?

  • G5 1.8 dual core recognizes only one core

I recently bought a dual core G5. The G5 isn't recognizing one of the cores. Any ideas how to fix it?

I don't usually have this problem, but I'm having it now with a project I'm doing while working off of Access Music's virus logic template. I wonder if there's a setting or something. One core is maxxing out and crashing the system, and the other is completely unused. I'd like an answer .

  • Motion 5 using only one core

Why is motion 5 using only one core during heavy renders, even when all other apps are closed?
    Version 5.0.3

coz it uses the GPU to do all the graphics stuff. The cores are only used to process project data.

  • Uneven Core usage on dual core processor

    Hi there
I noticed today whilst doing some video encoding (.TS files to .MP4) that my Mac Mini is not spreading the load over both of the cores in my dual core processor. Whilst Core 1 is showing nearly 100% Core 2 is hardly being used. Also I noticed that when the load on Core 1 dips then Core 2 will peak but as soon as the load goes back to Core 1 it will equally dip on Core 2 so essentially in Activity Monitor it looks like the core usage is a negative image of each other. The total CPU usage never peaked above 54%.
Could this an indication of a failing CPU or is it a case of poor core management? The software I've been using is VLC Player and also iMagiConverter.
    Cheers
    Jonty

What I don't understand is why software developers make software (especially video encoding that is all about CPU number crunching) that only utilises 50% of the CPU resources!
There are any number of possible reasons, from an application using a cross-platform code base that doesn't lend itself well to mulitiprocessor optimization for a particular platform, to inexperienced programmers who don't well understand programming for parallel threads, to developers who just want to crank out an application as quickly as they can (iMagiConverter seems to sort of fall into that category, given the number of applications of a similar nature that the "company" has produced). You'd have to get involved in the project development to know for sure.
    Regards.

  • Quad core processors support in w550s model

Are there any plans to support quad core processors in w550s model and when to expect it if such plans exist?

The ThinkPad W550s is a model that uses low voltage processors, which means dual core processors only. For quad cores you need to look at either the W540 or W541.

  • Windows XP Mode (Virtual PC) only uses half a CPU core/thread.

Not only does windows xp mode not support multiple cores, to me it looks like it only uses half a core/thread.
I noticed this because I just setup windows xp mode (virtual pc) on my computer.  I updated it, joined it to our domain and then installed our legacy ERP software.  This ERP software was designed and programmed to run on windows 98 or 2000, I can't
remember right now, but its hardware requirements are very low.  This software runs very slows in the virtual pc, with the processor being the problem.
Matching the processor spike on the virtual pc using both performance monitor and task manager I compared it to task manager running on the host (my windows 7 machine).  The spikes in cpu matched one of the threads on my i7 processor (I use threads
because an i7 has 8 threads but only 4 cores).  To my surprise when the CPU reached near 100% on the virtual PC the same spike on the host was only about 50% of the cpu thread.
The host has a i7 950, 3.07GHz processor.  So this means that the virtual pc can only use up to 1.5GHz.  I have not run into the problem reported in other posts on this forum where the CPU is always at 50% or 100% on the virtual PC because when
their is no activity the CPU drops to 10% or less and stays there.
I will now have to use vmplayer, problem is having enough xp licenses for all users.
Was anyone else aware of this?

You can't use a half a thread.  Windows VPC uses one core at 3.07GHz, there's no halving the speed of the CPU.
The only way WVPC would use a lower clock speed is if there is power management throttling the CPU speed down.  Do you have a power management setting throttling your CPU?  Are you sure the problem is the CPU and not disk or network related?
Task manager on the host is not a very accurate way to determine CPU usage of the VM.
If you have the correct version of Windows 7 (Pro or higher) there are no issues with XP Mode licenses, you get one license included with Windows 7.  There's no restriction requiring you to use XP Mode with Windows VPC, it will work under 3rd party
    virtualization solutions.

  • Parallelism in oracle using only one dual-core processor

Hi, is usefull or could i use parallel execution in oracle using only one dual core processor?
    Can someone explain me why?

    Hi
To take advantage of parallel processing you need enough resources (mainly CPU and I/O). If you run serially and the bottleneck is the CPU, then parallel processing might help. On the contrary, if the bottleneck is located in the I/O sub-system, throwing more CPU to it would not make things better. So, it's a question of balance between the CPU and I/O resources you have.

  • Adobe Media Encoder only using single core of CPU (core parking has already been disabled and did not solve the problem)

I only edit videos every few months and the last time I edited a video was around 6-9 months ago.  At that time, I noticed AME was only using a single core of the CPU and contacted Adobe who instructed me to disable core parking, which worked.  After disabling core parking AME used 100% of all 12 logical cores to process the video and all was good.  Then last week, I decided to edit another video and noticed AME was very slow and checked and it was again only using a single core to process the video, but core parking is still turned off.  By slow I mean that a 10 minute video with the lens distortion correction preset and one video transition effect is estimated to take nearly 3 hours to complete.  For comparison, the GoPro software processed the same clip with the same effects in 20 minutes.  Also, through troubleshooting with Adobe over the last few days, I have also tried downloading previous versions of the software but the prior versions have the same issue.
The video I'm trying to edit was shot on a GoPro Hero 4 Black with 1080p Wide at 60 frames per second.  The default video format for GoPro is .mp4.   The output settings I'm using when I export from Premiere Pro to AME are H.264 with the YouTube 1080p HD.
    My system:
    ASUSSabertooth X79
Intel core i7 4930k (6 physical cores, 12 logical cores)
    16GB DDR3 Quad channel RAM
    Samsung 830 SSD 128GB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 (not CUDA compatible, I know)
Please ask if you need any additional information to help solve this problem.

This has been driving me CRAZY... so going over the message boards from 2 to 5 am this morning I found the best explanation I have seen.   The problem is that Adobe Creative Cloud is NOT "Processor Group Aware".  Windows parses any more than 36 cores into "Processor Groups" and while the Pro version of Windows 7 & 8 can handle 256 threads they have to spread them across multiple processor groups.
Simple Version:  AREA | How many cores does 3ds Max support?

Clearly, this is an Adobe Problem... If any engineers are reading this PLEASE review the below and incorporate it into your next build of Creative Cloud!!!

  • Can DIAdem 2012 use multiple processors on Quad Core CPU?

    Hi,
I am running scripts in DIAdem 2012 which take upwards of 10 minutes to complete.  However, I notice my CPU usage never goes above 15% during this time.  My understanding is that that generally suggests the software is not 64-bit compatible and therefore not taking advantage of the other cores (I'm on a quad-core i7).  I also have 12gb ram and that is not being heavily taxed by DIAdem either.
Anybody know how I can squeeze some extra juice out of my computer to help DIAdem run faster?  Thanks!

    Hello Mark,
Multi-core support only makes sense for very few operations in DIAdem (i.e. Large amounts of data being sent through an FFT routine) and is currently not supported. Also, 64-bit only makes a difference when working with very large data files.
That said, there are ways to improve processing speed in DIAdem without using extra cores or 64-bit versions of software. My best suggestion is to get in touch with our senior Product Support Engineer (Dr. Brad Turpin) and combing through your Script(s) to see where there is potential to improve processing speeds by optimizing the Script(s). I'm not implying that your Script(s) are badly written, I just know from experience that changing a few things in the Script(s) has lead to reduced processing times by using optimized functions in DIAdem that you might not be aware of.
Dr. Turpin can be reached at this email address: brad DOT turpin @ ni DOT com
Please reference this forum thread when you contact him.

  • Multisim 11 only uses one CPU core during simulation

    Hi,
Just recently I've been using MultiSim again, v11 if that matters, and simulating goes slow, to my opinion that is.
Now there are two things that I've noticed:
    - Multisim only uses one of two CPU cores during simulation, not both;
    - I've enabled CPU throttle (AMD's Cool'n'Quiet) but corespeed remains very low even though Multisim needs CPU power while simulating.
The simulating of a NE555-based LED-flash circuit requires about 28 seconds to get to 100ms in the simulation. Now if I can get the CPU to throttle up, by for example having Prime95 stress one of the two cores, then the simulation only requires 12 seconds to get to 100ms.
So here are my two questions:
    1. Is Multisim 11 capable of using more than one CPU core while simulating? If yes, how can I get it to use more than one?
    2. Probably not the right forum to ask, but is there a way to force Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to throttle up the CPU when Multisim starts simulating? Since Multisim does not seem to stress the only core it uses enough to throttle it up. Using Prime95 on one core does trigger a throttle up.
    With regards,
    Bart Grefte
    Relevant specs:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    Multisim v11
    AMD A4-3400
    16GB RAM

    Completely forgot this topic....
Is there a good reason why there is no multicore support? Multisim can certainly use it for simulating.
As for the CPU throttling, I found a batch that can increase/decrease the "minimum processor state"-setting and it works immediately, no reboot required.
    @echo off
    powercfg.exe -getactivescheme > "%userprofile%\appdata\~apo.tmp"
    set /p v_currentscheme= <"%userprofile%\appdata\~apo.tmp"
    set v_currentscheme=%v_currentscheme:~24,36%
    del "%userprofile%\appdata\~apo.tmp"
    powercfg -setacvalueindex %v_currentscheme% 54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00 893dee8e-2bef-41e0-89c6-b55d0929964c %1
    powercfg -setdcvalueindex %v_currentscheme% 54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00 893dee8e-2bef-41e0-89c6-b55d0929964c %1
    powercfg -s %v_currentscheme%
    exit
    Usage is simple:
    Start -> run -> c:\pathtobatch.bat 100
for "minimum processor state"-setting at 100%
    Start -> run -> c:\pathtobatch.bat 5
for "minimum processor state"-setting at 5%
Please note that "set v_currentscheme=%v_currentscheme:~24,36%" is not the same for every language. The original batch had "set v_currentscheme=%v_currentscheme:~19,36%" (most likely for the English version of Windows 7), but since my Windows install is in Dutch, I had to change it in order for it to work.
Running the batch with @echo off removed will show why.

  • Weblogic uses only one core of i7 processor/

    Hi All,
My jdeveloper version is 11.1.1.4.0. (32 -bit) bundled with weblogic server : 10.3.4.0
I run a i3 processor with 8GB ram and Windows 7 basic Edition 64 bit
When i run my ADF web app on integrated weblogic server from jdeveloper, i notice that it only uses 1 core of the processor no matter how much load I put on the web server.
Is there any setting which I am missing or does development server are built that way to only use 1 core of the processor.
    Thank You,
    Rohit

Solved the problem. The solution was simple, but somehow went under my radar. On Mac two in the Qmaster preferance pane next to the "Options for selected service" button, the selected service was set to off.

  • Pages '09 only uses one processor core?

    Hello,
some days ago i had to open a document containing nearly 2.000 pages. Don't ask why.
Working with this document was quite complicated because Pages was responding very slowly. I used the activity monitor to see what was going on and i recognized that Pages only uses one core of my eight core MacPro.
I tested iWork on my iMac and MacBook Pro (both DualCores) as well: same problem.
Does iWork only use one processor core?
    Kind regards,
    roman

How much memory do you have in your system? I'll bet if you check activity monitor (applications/utilities) and go to system memory tab therein you will see lots of page outs. This happens with huge docs and little memory as the doc is being swapped between active operating memory and the hard disk The only way to solve this problem is to get more memory (not storage) in your system. For a 2,000 page doc you're going to need lots and lots and lots of extra gigs of memory. By the way - how big is the too big file of yours?
Number of processor cores isn't going to solve the issue if you have pageouts. It is a system memory/size of document issue and completely unrelated to how many processor cores you are using.
