I only have one problem, they have told me that there is no options on the CPU, I have to get it with the i7-3630QM. Despite it being a very good CPU, is this true? Are the GT70 OND laptops only built with these CPUs? On US websites like xoticpc there is the options of CPU's up to supercharged 4.2GHz ones, plus on the MSI website it specifically says on the specifications of the OND that I can get the latest i7, which I interpret as; there is a range on possible CPUs I can have.
The reason this is a problem for me is I mainly want to use the system for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. This program is nearly entirely CPU bound in terms of FPS. So if possible, I would like to try and get this laptop with the slightly faster i7-3740QM or something similar.
Is this a possibility?

I was looking at a possible CPU upgrade on my GT70-0ND to get the VT-d part of virtualization.  I'd like to run a small XP machine there, and a little higher step speed wouldn't hurt either.  The 3630QM doesn't support VT-d, though I am able to create a new virtual engine with no problem.  I read in another thread that some were reporting a failure just by defining a new engine.  I didn't put an OS on mine yet, and it lets me know that.  But no VT-d errors.
Can you update to as high as a Core i7-3840QM (same size and power) without board or BIOS changes?

At this point in time, MSI doesn't whitelist any parts.....the bios should be able to support any chip that fits into the socket, although it might need a little tweaking (see the bios section, where svet can make you a custom bios if need be).
What I would do, is look at the reseller sites (such as xoticpc, gentechpc, and such) and see what CPU options that they offer. Then decide which one you want and find a way to get that CPU (ebay is pretty easy). Installation isn't that difficult in the GT70 series.
I'll probably be upgrading at some point in the near future to either a 37xx or 38xx series CPU. (assuming I remembered the numbers right)
EDIT:
Gentechpc offers the following CPU's on the GT70 barebones model:
3610QM
3630QM
3720QM
3740QM
3820QM
3840QM
3920QM
3940XM
I'd be wary of the 39xx parts due to them being 55W. The 38xx parts are still 45 watt parts.
While the cooling system can handle the 55W parts, you would probably limit your ability to do any overclocking (if you do that sort of thing).

  • GT70-OND 202US Fully Unlocked BIOS

Is there a way to get a fully unlocked BIOS (preferable of the newest version if it is the best) for my my laptop GT70-OND 202US?  I am ready to make a donation but don't know how much or what a proper donation range is.
The only hardware modifications from stock I have made so far are:
    New CPU:  From a i7-3610qm to a i7-3740qm
New OS SSD:  Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
    New RAM:   16GB COrsair Vengeance DDR3 1600
New Wifi:    Bigfoot Killer N 1202
Hopefully none of that will prevent a new unlocked BIOS.  =]
Also, is there a way to make a custom fan curve?
    It currently has:
    Marketing Name:  GT70 OND
    Model Name:  MS-1762
    BIOS Version  E1762IMS.10R
    EC Version  1762EMS1 Ver4.14
    ME FW Version  8.0.0.1351
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • MSI GT70 OND-492US Video Drivers.

    Hi,
    I bought a new GT70 OND-492US w/ GTX675MX video card.
Initially when I got it, if I ran a game that would use the video card, the video driver and game would then crash.
So I tried updating the drivers from MSIs website, same issue.
Tried updating the drivers from Nvidias website, same issue.
    Reset the computer, same issue.
Uninstalled/restarted/reinstalled the drivers from the device manager, same issue.
I submitted a support request and the response was just to update drivers off MSIs website/the included CD/reset the laptop.
    Any ideas?

send it back for repair, something is broken on it
Was afraid that's what it would come to.
    Thanks for the response.
Have any sort of best guess on turnaround time for MSI service?

  • MSI GT70 OND-492

So I am about to pull the trigger on this laptop  GT70 0ND-492US.. Anything I should know. I was looking at other vendors and no one seems to come close to the price for what you get.  Anyone have this laptop? Any PROS/CONS you could list for me. It will be used as a desktop replacement. For gaming and watching BluRay movies on the go. All comments welcome!

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know what kind of headroom the CPU has in these.  I will talk to him about the GPU thing.
Also I am looking at either a Samsung 840 pro 128GB or OCZ Vector 128GB. Will both of these work? Anyone currently using either one of these SSD in their laptops?
Many users have had issues with the Samsung 840 Pro...I would steer clear of it personally.
As far as OCZ, I still steer clear of them after all the various issues they've had in the past with the many drives they've put out there.
I can't speak very much about it to be honest. I have the dual mSATA raid option on mine, and I'm using 2 x Sandforce based drives in it.
If it was up to me, I'd get almost ANY of the Intel SSD's and be done with it. There shouldn't be any compatibility issues with the Intel based ones.

  • Change the CPU of my GT70 Dragon Edition 2

This is the model name: GT70 2OD-039US I would like to know if I can upgrade the CPU because i don't love too much the 4700MQ... If someone can tell me what can i improve it with and how big would be the upgrade from my current performance would be really appreciate! THANKS TO EVERYONE

the CPU should be a FCPGA946 socketed unit so in theory should be able to be possibly upgraded to upto a Core i7-4910MQ 2.9GHz (3.9GHz turbo) unit but I'm not 100% sure on that and only someone who has done that would know for sure and its unlikely that anyone has! you would need to contact MSI to find out for sure what its CPU support is >>How to contact MSI.<<.......... (note that may perform better as it has a 2MB bigger L3 cache at 8MB compared to yours that has a 6MB L3 cache)
if you did that jump it would be a decent improvement but as its a mobile CPU its not going to be mind-blowing and would be quite expensive to do. personally to me the jump wouldn't be worth the price you may be able to get a 4800MQ for 40% less but it would only be a minor 300Mhz boost and would be nearly the same as your current CPU as its just a higher clocked version!
so I would suggest contacting MSI to find out what the BIOS/Firmware on that Laptop supports directly as I have no clue how big a jump that's capable of!

  • CPU Throttling New GT70 2PC GTX 870

Hello friends. I noticed something odd on my new laptop. I have encountered a few of the issues that others have mentioned with regards to wireless and believe I have mostly resolved that but have since started to notice performance issues that corresponds with events in the windows logs stating that the CPU is getting throttled. This occurs both during non intensive use at sometimes random times other times while it is in heavy use.
I assume its due to overheating which would be rather unfortunate since this is a brand new machine.
According to MSI Live update the bios version is E1763IMS.50T
    The mainboard is MS-1763
I have not updated anything but the drivers.
I am considering updating the EC and BIOS but wanted to confirm there actually are updated versions prior to heading down that path. I am not sure if there may be voltage or other performance updates etc that would help in a newer version of the bios. The naming convention is a bit confusing and when I use the MSI Live update tool is claims there is not a new version of bios available.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

After some testing I have noticed a pattern that directly coincides with the events logged in event viewer that aligns with what seems to be throttling of the CPU and GPU as reported using coretemp and GPUZ.
I have saved one such incident in a PDF which I can post. I tried looking for ways to insert an attachment to the forums and was not able to.
The event log error is "The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced state for 28 seconds since the last report."
I have correlated the time of these events with the temps for processor core 2 hitting 71 and reducing core speed (below 2300) and power for all cores (19). I have also been able to correlate with the GPU reducing clock speed from 966 to 270,and gpu memory from 1248 to 162 with temps at around 70.
So it seems that while the temps are really not that bad there is still some kind of throttling taking place within the BIOS that is causing lags while running applications. This pattern above is recurring 2-3 minutes apart.
If I can figure out how to post a file I can post the PDF I created.
    Thanks for any additional feedback.

  • 2010 Mac mini CPU options

Does the new Mac mini have a user upgradeable CPU?

The processor of the new mini is most definitely soldered in. Thus, it is not upgradeable.
Minor point of accuracy: Mac Pro and current iMac models have socketed processors, and thus can be upgraded. This procedure is not endorsed by Apple, and would thus void your warranty (if your example still carries a warranty). On the Mac Pro it is a fairly straightforward process, but certainly not so easy on the iMac.

  • MSI GT70-OND + GTX 680m or 8970m

    Hi!
    Looping for some serious help...
After some erratic behavior my i7 3rd gen GT70 just stopped working with MSI 680m 4GB. The card shows on occasions in manager, but both - discrete and HD4000 have no installed drivers and wont work unless 680 is plugged out (then intel kicks in without prob). That happened after some automatic driver updates and possibly BIOS update. Tried a ton of these and Bioses, rather randomly, trying to solve the disappearance of my 680m from control panel, but non of them worked. To make the things worse, I've messed with EC firmware editions trying the "beta" t25,21,16,17 - one of them bricked the lappi for good... Had MSI re-flash the bios (couldn't do the blind flash myself) but they say they can't help me with 680 since it is from GT60 originally and it's not supported by GT70 (I switched it from 675 to 680 in the other MSI laptop some 8 months ago - both worked without a problem until the issue). Don't have access to check my 680m in another MSI to check if it's working and is no hardware failure, but have access to 8970m from CLEVO for some decent bucks - was wondering which bios should I install to run it in my GT70 or which bios/EC firmware to flash so my old 680 start working again... This or that... Any idea? Guys? Svet? Sure will make the donation if needed of course!

    What cpu upgrades are available?
Can the dual QS 1ghz be used with this motherboard?
Where can I fins more info on the QS units and interchangeability between the units?

800MHz, 933MHz, and the dual 1GHz CPUs came with the 2002 Quicksilver; the parts number generally associated with the 2002 Quicksilver motherboard is 620-1342-B and the date of copyright is ©2001.
The 733MHz, 867MHz, and dual 800MHz CPUs came with the Quicksilver 2001; the parts number associated with that motherboard is 620-1276-A.
All CPUs are interchangeable. The limitation as to Hard Drive size is with the board.

  • Hdd to ssd??? is it posible on my gt70 ond???

    is this posible???

Quote from: Ruudt on 06-August-12, 18:01:33
    Yes, that should be possible.
Which GT70 do you have (HDD Raid (2 HDDs) or non Raid version (1 HDD))?
First make sure you have made the MSI Recovery DVD set.
    If it's the non-raid:
1.) Open the back remove the hdd and install the ssd in its place.
2.) Use the MSI Recovery DVD set to recover your Windows installation.
If you want to use the hdd as extra storage place the hdd in the second HDD drive bay.
3.) Check if the bios is starting from SSD (instead of the HDD).
If it's the HDD raid version (2HDDs) it's basically the same but you should turn off RAID in the bios, before step 2 and remove one of the HDDs.
Or flash the non-RAID bios: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT70-0ND.html#/?div=BIOS
i have HDD RAID, thank you
