CPU support for KT3 Ultra2?

Mainboard manual says that fastest supported CPU is AMD XP 2200+ 1,8GHz (=Thoroughbred).
Board homepage says that 2700+ is the fastest supported CPU
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=341
CPU Support page says that fastest supported CPU is XP 3000+ 333MHz:http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=341
So the question is which is the fastest supported CPU? I'd like to get a confirmation before buying any...

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=11 says that BIOS update 6380ev57.exe supports "AMD Barton XP3000+ (FSB333) CPU (For KT3 Ultra2 Only)" and warns that "This BIOS is intended for MS-6380E PCB with KT266A & KT333 chipset. K7T266 Pro2 & K7T266 Pro2-RU don't use the same.
Go to the URL and make double sure that you are looking at the correct motherboard version.

    but is still usefull?
get i better performance or a more stable system?
when is usefull to install them
do i have to install al 4 of them or just some of the four
and are there other things, like the way of installing
    thanx in advance

Install 4 in 1 driver all versions available from http://www.viaarena.com Other VIA patches mentioned below also availabe from VIA website.
For K7T Turbo Series - no 4 in 1 drivers are needed
For K7T266 Pro2 Series. Install 4 in 1 driver version 4.35 When installing in XP it will only offer the choice to install the ".inf" file/portion of the 4 in 1 drivers. For your motehrboard thats what you wanna do.
For KT3 Ultra Series. Install 4 in 1 driver version 4.38 When you are given the coices of what modules to install choose only the INF 1.40a file (unselect AGP and IDE modules) Once done and you have rebooted. Install the VIA IDE Filter Driver. THis is a separate VIA pack that is not part of the 4 in 1 drivers. Be sure you download and isntall the IDE Filter Driver and NOT the IDE Miniport driver. Please note, I am aware this method may not give you the full ATA133 VIA promises with the IDE miniport. However the above recommendation takes into consideration the following
    * WIndows XP will almost certainly have native support of ATA133 UDMA6 in the upcoming Service Pack
*This provides the cleanest path for you to fully employ the upcoming Windows XP Service Pack. Being familiar with the miniport and the 4 in 1 IDE module, there is reason to believe the future XP Service Pack may not fully install properly with these VIA patches. (for clarification, see me in the forum)
Its as important to think of the future of your computer as much as your immediate desire for performance.
*the Miniport drivers cause some people problems.
*no IDE hard drive can truly provide full ATA133 performance
Based on all these, the above 4 in 1 driver recommendations have been made.

  • Best BIOS settings for Kt3 Ultra2 and Geforce4?

    Hi,
Can someone tell me what the best BIOS settings would be for my KT3 Ultra2 running a Geforce4 ti4200?
I get crappy scores in 3dMark2001 SE and I have the infamous stuttering/crashing problems in 3D games.  I've tried pretty much every configuration of settings and drivers I can think of.
I saw on these forums that the Kt3 Ultra2 can be a bit fussy with GF4 cards.  If someone could post the best BIOS settings for performance and stability I'd be eternally grateful.
Alternatively, email me at [email protected] with them.
    Thanks in advance

very very similar as far as i can make out

  • CPU Support for 945P Neo5-F

I have read the CPU Support list for 945P Neo5-F. My question is do you have do a bios upgrade to run any of the CPU's listed or will they run with the factory bios. Will a CPU with a CPU code not listed work?  Board is in the mail. don't know what bios is installed. Looking to pick up a CPU before the board gets here, want to make sure it will work.  Don't want to buy another CPU just to install a Bios update.
    Thanks Senkoboy .......

And here I allways thought Celeron for the most part was the lower cost versions with less cache memory than the Pentiums. Like the Sempron compared to Athlon in AMD.

  • What RAM for KT3 Ultra2-R

    Currently I have:
    1 x Samsung PC2700 256MB CAS 2.5
I want to upgrade to 512MB. I could get another stick of Samsung, but I would prefer to have it on 1 stick, plus there is only 1 place I can find in the UK that sells them and I'd prefer not to deal with them.
So I'm thinking Crucial would be a good choice, as lots of people recommend them and they will refund/exchange if anything goes pear shaped.
    512MB DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • Non-parity • 6ns • 2.5V • 64Meg x 64
    £116.09
Doesn't sound too bad to me. Has anyone had trouble with Crucial RAM on the KT3?
I've also noticed that Corsair do PC3000, 3200 and now 3500 CAS2 modules. Firstly, can my board handle them, and would there be a noticeable difference between them and the Crucial?
    System spec:
    AMD XP2200+ TBred A
    MSI KT3 Ultra2-R
    Samsung PC2700 256MB CAS 2.5
    Geforce 2 Ti
300W PSU (soon to be Enermax 430W)

    Hi,
I suppose you realise that you can't install multiple sticks of high speed RAM and maintain the memory bus speed that would be indicated by the RAM speed?
Because of issues with the VIA chipset and others, the timing control of the memory bus is basically, barely under control and can only cope with a single stick of high speed RAM at the nominal RAM speed, say DDR400. Each additional stick will "clock-down" the memory bus to the next lower default setting, ie two sticks - DDR333, three sticks - DDR266.
It all seems rather unsatisfactory and in reality, it is but there is little to be done at the moment until such time as VIA and others develop chipsets that can properly cope with the demands of genuine high speed RAM.
So, I guess this means that if you want to increase your RAM size and maintain the highest possible memory bus speed, you are limited to a single stick of 512MB, 1GB (if they're out there). I've heard and read patchy reports of the performance of Crucial RAM and as a result, would not really recommend it. Corsair on the other hand, is very well engineered and manufactured and I would not hesitate to recommend their products in whatever combination of speed/size that you wanted to use. Hope that helps some,
    Cheerio,
    Dimal.

  • Stats for Kt3 ultra2 with 1700 thoroughbred A?

I was just wondering what i should be able to get out of this cpu with this board.  I have 2x256 megs of samsung pc2700 ram, a radeon 8500 le 128meg and soundblaster live value.  I can get my system up to 1800 mhz (12x151) with the ultra setting on and i am getting good performance... but like most people i want more.  I am running the stiock cooler but i plan on upgradeing it very soon (i am already at ~50 degrees).   I am runnign the ram at cas 2.5 like its suited for and i simple cannot get my fsb any higher.  I can get a 155 fsb with a multiplier of 11 but no higher.  Any help would be great.

I've got a tbredA 1700 currently running at 1.88Ghz @ 170FSB with an 11x multiplier but I also had to do a voltage mod but I didn't connect brodges.
I connected vss to vid1 and vss to vid3 via the motherboard socket to get 1.75V default.  This thread will explain how to do it http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showindex.php?s=1df252bb756f86f95a4a4adf9d106506&threadid=154172
BEWARE: increasing your voltage will increase your CPU temps so a good CPU cooler is recommended

  • CPU Support for 845GVM-V???

I just received an MSI 845GVM-V mainboard and am trying to get it to work with an Intel P4-2.4ghz/533mhz Prescott processor with 1mb cache. I get the alarm siren at boot, no video but fans are spinning, etc.
I swapped the processor out with a 1.8ghz 400mhz P4 and it posted just fine so I assumed my Prescott processor was defective. I installed a brand new 2nd 2.4ghz processor identical to the first and same thing, no video, alarm siren at boot.
The processor matrix on MSI's web site indicates that this is a supported processor for this motherboard unless I am misreading something and I don't see any updated bios files posted for it. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Roark Holz

Can you get into the bios?   If you cant enter the BIOS with the "Del" key up
on Powerup, Try Pressing, and Holding down BOTH the "Ctrl" and "Home" Keys, This Should Force a Quick POST, allowing you to enter the BIOS upon the next Restart.  Create a signature of your system specs as Danny suggests.  It could be anything.

  • Ver 5.7 for kt3 ultra2

    hi.
have anyone flash the 5.7 bios got problem or no. i need to know 1st.
    thanks

    KT3 Ultra-ARU (not 2, but anyway) - no problems.
CPU HALT Detect feature (which can be enabled/disabled) produces glitches in MIDI playback with Audigy if enabled.
    That would be it.

  • Most stable bios for KT3 ultra2?

ive tried between 5.6 and 5.5..
    noticing 5.5 is more stable...
are there any older ones that people prefer? thx

Normally it's not the BIOS that's stable or not.... it's the overall configuration that's stable or not...
Running my K7T266Pro2-A (the small brother of KT3 Ultra) with Micron/Crucial RAM stable @ CL 2 2-5-2-2 Timing with Ultra settings and "Fast Command" enabled... currently using BIOS 5.6 (the BIOS is identical to the KT3-Line). Previously using BIOS 5.5 (also stable, but w/ ACPI bug in WinXP). Stability doble-checked w/ memtest and prime95...
So... have a look @ the "stickies" to get your system stable

  • Insert Invitee email address..hit send...pop window shows..hit cancel..nothing..have to stop and re-start imail to send invite...spent 40 mins with cpu support for naught

not sure if this is an ical or imal problem.  It appears there is some type of handshaking problem between them.  I can enter and invitee address and hit send...A pop up window shows, I hit the canel option, the window closes and that is it.  If I wish to send the invite I have to shut down Imail and re-start it.  At wich time the pop up window shows, I cancel it and then can send the invite.....is this normal?

    - ability to choose deletion of an email on handset only
    - desktop software working with all older BB's allowing drag and drop type of transferring data, contacts etc. (BB link doesn't recognize my old Storm)
    - auto power on/off
    - contacts syncing with yahoo & Outlook (almost two weeks trying to work around it and no luck)

  • MSI kt3 ultra2-R

got a question regardingh this board... does it support pci divider change over 133 fsb to 1/5... i've got AGOIA Athlon XP 1600+ which goes to 1,77 with no problem but (according to si soft sandra) the PCI goes a little to high (over 42 Mhz)....

It's not the problem with any program to show the chipset fan speed. It's the chipset fan speed is not monitored by the board at all. The board only supports 2 fan speed monitoring - CFAN1 and SFAN1.
So far none of any software read the PCI divider correctly. MSI didn't implement 1/6 PCI divider on KT3 Ultra (1) board, but unknown for KT3 Ultra2. Even yes this board is hardly reach stable at that speed too.

  • MSI K8N Neo-V nForce3 250 CPU Support

I've been to about a million MSI pages looking for CPU support for this Mobo and can't find a definitive answer. I see where this board supports Semprons but does it support - AMD Sempron 64 3300+ Palermo 800MHz FSB Socket 754
Or does 64 support only lend itself to Athlons.
I think it does but before I buy I need to know fer sure.
    Thanks,
    Ahumado

    MakubeX,
I have the Antec True Power 480. Unfortunately it only has 22 or 23 amps (the specs and the label on the psu have different ratings  ) on the +12V rail. Most of the folks here recommend a power supply with at least 24 amps.
The good news is that the system in my sig is working flawlessly so the extra 1 or 2 amps don't seem to make a big difference, at least in my case. I will say, however, that according to Core Center my +12V rail runs around 11.5 volts, which is low and nearly out of ATX sepc. The low voltage will result in higher amperage draw...but again, the system is stable.
    I wish you good luck

  • My MSI KT3-ULTRA2 doesn't work with my CPU cooler!!

My MSI KT3-ULTRA2 doesn't work with my CPU cooler!!
I've got an MSI KT3-ULTRA2 mainbord, and I have a NEOLEC VENEZIA TB Cooler. But when I attach my NEOLEC cooler and I start the machine, the machine shuts down within a couple of seconds, and I get nothing to see on my screen. The weird thing is when I turn the PC on, the cooler starts rotating so it can't be broke, but then the pc shuts down i a couple of secs. So pleezze anybody help me!!
The weird thing is that I also have a coolermaster cooler, and that one works fine. But the problem is that this coolermaster is designed for AMD XP 1900+, and I ahve an AMD XP 2200+ that's why I bought the Neolec Venezia TB cooler.

one easy thing to watch for... see if the heatsink or fan is in contact with any part of the motherboard, like... if it is too big and touches something that normally wouldn't be in contact with a fan or heatsink.  If so, it could be shorting it.

  • KT3 Ultra2-C FSB support?

About 13 months ago I purchased a prebuilt PC system and made the mistake of assuming (based on the name) that the KT3 Ultra2-C (MS-6593) was similar to the rest of the KT3 Ultra2 line, which I had heard good things about, and I expected similar future processor support.  In fact if you do a Google search you will dig up some old news releases that even state that MS-6593 supports Barton CPUs.  Flash forward in time, and I discover that despite the extremely similar name, the Ultra2-C apparently does not support the newer 333 FSB CPUs.  A search on this site comes up with some posts that say this is because the Ultra2-C  doesn't even have the 1/5 divider, so the PCI speeds at 166 will be far out of spec.
Can anyone confirm if they have gotten Bartons to work with this motherboard?  Or otherwise confirm if this board is in fact lacking a 1/5 divider at 166 FSB?  Can this be fixed with a BIOS update?
The BIOS allows one to set a CPU FSB up to 200 mhz, and the board came with overclocking utilities, etc.  Speaking as an engineer myself, it is completely illogical to make a product that supports high FSB but does not have a 1/5 DIVIDER at 166!  I also can't believe a company would release a product with such a similar name yet have such critical differences in features.
    Signed,
    Confused and Disappointed

Yepp, it does not have the 1/5 divider, similar to the KT3 Ultra-ARU. But the Ultra-ARU is often reportet to run at FSB166, but it is not official
