CPU Temp 120c burning itunes music

When I'm burning music to CD my macbook pro shuts down when CPU Diode temp reaches 120c. I tried external CD burner ended with same issue. Installed smcFan controller, adjust fans to 6000rpm it takes a minute or so extra to shut down. Even re-modified heat sink, it just added 2-3 minutes to shut down time.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

Burning music to a CD alone should be all that taxing to your system... if you're transcoding music (such as MP3 files to CD audio files)... that can require quite a bit of processing power. The CPU percentages you referenced would be consistent with transcoding. However, even with doing something highly processor intensive, your system should be able to operate within tolerances (albeit on the higher end).
Have you tried resetting your SMC? This can help with thermal management issues:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
(be sure to follow the instructions for your particular model as they vary from machine to machine)
I'm not sure what you mean by "re-modified heat sink"... but if the results were better, it doesn't seem like any harm was done.
I'm sort of leaning towards a faulty temp sensor. Have you run something like iStat Pro to check the temps of the other sensors while this is happening?

If you see wild variations, it could be a good clue to a faulty sensor.

  • Burning iTunes Music Store Movies

    Hello,
I've purchased a TV series on iTunes Music Store and would like to burn it to a DVD to play on my TV. Can anyone tell me how you do this?
    Thanks,

    Sorry, that's not possible.
According to the iTunes Music Store Terms of Service:
You shall be entitled to export, burn (if applicable) or copy Products solely for personal, noncommercial use. You shall not be entitled to burn Video Products. (9b)
You can only burn them on Data CD/DVD for backup.

  • Cpu temp sensor burned

    Hello all,
    K7T 6330 V.3 with 1.3 Athlon
I recently changed my HSF to a presumably better unit than the one that came with teh CPU.
It ended up not cooling any better but running a bit hotter.
I removed all of the components I no longer used (old NIC, bad CDROM) to help air flow but after a few reboots to test the temp I smelt burning plastic.
I found that the CPU temp sensor inside the CPU socket was burned and now I only get red LEDs. The CPU and socket look fine. No debris of burn marks.
Anyway, if the sensor is burned to make an open circuit or shorted somehow, would this completely kill the mobo?
I mean, if ONLY the temp sensor circuit was fried, would this prevent the entire board from functioning?
    thanks,
    js

Yeah. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that part. The CPU definitely scorched the sensor. I may have inadvertantly pulled it up a little when replacing the CPU, only way it could have happened.
    thanks,
    js

  • WHAT?!!  Can't burn ITunes Music Store Files?

Itunes tells me I can't burn a CD of songs that I paid for to a CD.
The support page says I can.
The songs are authorized, they play on my computer.
Anyone know the problem? Or have I made a mistake buying music off of Itunes?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    So what does one do?
    1) Select iTunes in the menubar.
    2) Select "Preferences".
    3) When dialog appears, click on "Advanced" at the top.
    4) Click on "Burning".
    5) Select "Disc Format: Audio CD".
    6) Burn a new disk.
That should give you an regular audio CD that you can listen to on your stereo. Also, make sure that you are burning a CD-R and not a CD-RW. Many stereos can't read CD-RW's.

One other thread said it was fixed by waiting till prompted by iTunes to insert the blank disk, instead of putting it in first. Does that work? Found a number of hits on this Googling.

  • ITunes 9 will not burn a music CD that can play on a CD player

Ever since I upgraded to Itunes 9 I cannot copy (burn) a music CD that can be played on any CD player device other than the MacBook. I tried changing the format preference from .aif to .mpg4a but it still only creates CD's that cannot play. I am not pirating anything. I copied my own bought retail music CD's onto the MacBook and gave away the CD's to eliminate clutter. In the past I have been able to copy them for my own use for the car or the bedroom where there is no computer available. This is so frustrating. Please help!

does the format of the original song make a difference? for instance, if the data is mp3 data, but you try to burn an audio cd, will that mess it up? I dunno. it didn't use to, I dont think. I have no idea about iTunes9
You could convert the songs to .aif in QuickTime before hand just to make sure iTunes9 isn't messing it up.

  • Can no longer burn CD from iTunes music

I had no problems burning iTunes before yesterday. Now when I try to put new titles into "Toast," I get the prompt "(i.e. song title) m4p was not added because it was not authorized for digital export." How do I get the proper authorization. Nancy

    Hi Nancy,
As we mentioned in your previous post, protected Music Store purchases (.m4p files) can only be burned to an audio CD through iTunes.
Toast, nor any other burning application, does not have the necessary decoders built in to decrypt the FairPlay DRM (Apple's digital rights management) which Music Store purchases carry.
You must use iTunes to burn an audio CD with protected tracks.
The alternative would be to purchase the same songs from a different provider (e.g. Amazon) who do not use DRM technology to be able to use Toast to burn the disc with all of the desired tracks.
    Hope this helps,
    Steve

  • CPU Temp spike to 120c for no apparent reason. Help!

    Hi,
I've got a 2.5 dual G5 4gb ram and yesterday I noticed the fans were running constantly for about 5 min. I had Photoshop and Illustrator running so I didn't think much of it (cpus were running at about 60% in activity monitor). Next thing I know I get a black screen that went away after I moved my mouse (It did this twice). I quickly shut down the programs and all was well. I did a bit of research and figured out that this is due to the cpu's overheating and it's putting the system into sleep mode. It's never done this before, and I work on these programs daily.
Well, I decided to download a temperature monitor today so I could keep an eye on what the temps are. I was listening to a podcast a that was approx. 30 min long (no other software running but Firefox, activity monitor, and the ). CPU temps were ok (around 65-80c), but suddenly the fans started screaming and the screen went black. When I got it to come on (only got it to come on for a few secs) I noticed the temps on both cpu's were running at over 120c. I shut down Safari and every program I could think of, but the temp remained high. I was afraid of frying my cpus' so I shut it down via the apple menu. The monitor went black, but the fans continued screaming so I held down the power button.
Now when I try to start it up I get the normal ding, but a black screen. When I look through the mesh on the front I see two red lights (I'm guessing where the cpus are). Please help me determine what the cause of this is! I'm a designer and this is my only source of income. Thanks in advance!!!!

Well, I've taken it in to my local Mac repair shop. I'm wondering if the coolant is coming from my power supply (which is under warranty and was replaced 2 months ago), or if it's a separate component. I know this is a known issue with the liquid cooled G5s, and I hope that whatever is wrong will be fixed!!
When I was carrying it out to my car to transport today the coolant leaked all over my floor. I had both my dogs indoors and I didn't notice the trail of liquid till I got back (almost an hour later). I really hope neither of them licked up any of it! Between this and the potential fire hazard I'm almost starting to question on whether or not I even want it fixed. I'm literally afraid of my computer..lol.
I should be hearing back from the repair shop tomorrow. Fingers crossed this leak didn't fry my cpus and logic board. At temps like that I don't see how it couldn't!
Thanks to all of you for your help!

  • Alternate Software to burn my iTunes Music?

I have both read frequently and posted last week about my problems with my new laptop and Windows Vista and NOT Being able to burn my music to a CD with iTunes.
Does anyone have any recommendations of other software I should buy, download, or get that would allow me to burn my music to a CD since I can't with iTunes?
    Thanks for any help!
    Kathy

So am I basically out of luck here?
Can I not convert all my files, yes I know it could take weeks, but to mp3's, and save them to new file folders?
Or, am I just wishful thinking?

  • 75C CPU temp while CD burning...help

While copying some files to my CD-R, CPU temp in my corecenter jumped 75C and I got the warning beep.  I did set the max CPU temp alarm to 75C in corecenter as it is the max temp specified for my processor in the Intel website.  Here are temp reading:
Room Temp: about 15C (cold here right now in LA)
CPU temp: 75C (idle is about 50C)
    Sys temp: 30C
I don't know if it has something to do with my CD burner as it is an old one (4x4x32).
I still have my old PSU by the way (the one in my sig not yet installed):
    current PSU specs:
    300W
    +3.3V (28A)
    +5V (30A)
    +12V (15A)
    combined power (+5 and +3.3): 180W
Is the PSU a factor regarding the CPU temp or could it be my CD writer?  I'm currently installing speedfan BTW and see if I get the same result.

  • Burning a music CD in iTunes produces a still blank CD

I've been trying to burn music CDs from iTunes. I click the "burn CD" button and the program responds and goes through the whole process of burning the CD. The CD even appears in the iTunes sidebar. Unfortunately, when I eject the CD, the CD is still blank and surface has not been altered. If I re-insert the CD into my computer, it shows up as a blank CD. I have also experienced problems burning files to CDs from Finder. Somebody please help.

the last time I tried to burn a cd from itunes, my system crashed and my optical (a new dual layer superdive installed less than a year ago) died... I haven't a clue what happened!
I ended up buying an external and though itunes recognizes it, when I try to burn an audio cd (mp4 to aiff), it goes through the entire process of 'seemingly' converting the files, the cd shows ALL the information, even when re-inserted into the drive... but there's NO actual information on the disc. It 'appears to play' but no sound comes out and there's no activity in the equalizer at all.
On external cd players, one player did the exact same thing and another just refused to even see the cd as readable.
I've also tried burning from Toast, which ALWAYS worked in the past, with the same result.
What's the point of purchasing music in itunes if I can't burn the music to cd?
has anyone been able to solve this?
    thanks... namaste

  • Problem with itunes locking up only when burning to music library

All of a sudden when I burn my discs to an external hard drive with about 1-3 songs (never at beginning or midway through the burn)left to burn itunes locks up, forcing me to restart computer. Not all discs but about 1 every 15-20 burned. Since I am burning over 2000 of my cd's to library this is very annoying. If I use itunes just to play the disc it is fine and the discs work fine in my home audio system. I use windows xp and am burning to a western digital external hard drive. The discs are all clean with no visible signs of scratches or scuffs.
    Any suggestions?

yes i mean importing. by the way i use apple lossless. no the specific discs will not import. i just tried importing a disc i just bought new and it does not import the whoe disc as well. all of the discs i am importing are mine and are originals...not burned.

  • Tm2t cpu temp between 40-65 and fan always on

HI I just got my TM2t XQ330AV - intel core i5 u470 and amd  etc.
Well first of all, the fan is always running even with the option for fan disabled.
I also notice the tempurature of the laptop is pretty warm to touch and where the vent is at, the temp is noticeably warm.
On idle, (im running current ver of core temp) my cpu is around 37-47 degrees with 2-10 percent load.
From the reviews, this laptop was supposed to be cool running.
Also, I have fully charge the laptop overnight and have it unplugged now with the lowest power setting on, brightnss to about less than 50 percent and im already at 65 percent battery after just 1 hour. At this rate, i dont think im going to get to the 5 hour mark others been raving about.
    What do you guys think?

    For example:
I have my macbook on a hard flat surface, and the rear vent is not blocked by anything and is not packed up with dust. My room temp is 68F.
I opened Google Earth and set the globe spinning. I opened iTunes and burned a playlist to a cd. I opened Safari and played a video from Hulu.com. So those three apps and FlashPlayer were all running above 20%CPU for about 10 minutes and the fan ran at 6200rpm but kept the cpu temp below 185F. Once i quit everything except ActivityMonitor all the cpu processes dropped below 5% and it took about 3min for the cpu temp to get down to 130F and the fan idled at 1800rpm.
Im pretty sure this is normal for the macbook. I believe the max operating temp for your intel cpu is somewhere between 212F and 221F .
