This is still problem about this MotherBoard K8T NEO2 FIR, or problem MSI If you have latest bios, then your temperature is after restart OK, test this.
This board have problems with temperature on cpu and fan speeds on sys - read errors

  • Sblive not working with Cool n'Quiet, how about Audigy

My SBli've will not work with Cool n'Quiet enabled. I tried moving it from slot to slot, I fumbled with the Bios (and every change made matters worse), memory is ok (at least according to memtest and prime95), kx drivers won't help either (but sound a lot nicer).
Well, what gives, the card is a little over seven years old and has earned a retirement.
I'm thinking about replacing it with an Audigy 4 (not pro) und would be very happy if someone could write about her or his experience with the card, esp. with Cool n'Quiet enabled.
Btw. what kind of card is it anyway? Does it use a 0k2-Chip?
    thanks
    My System:
    AMD X2 3800
    Asus A8V (Via KT800pro, AGP)
    Nvidia 6600GT (AGP)
    024 Mbyte RAM (conservati've timing)

I cant promize anything, but it should work. X-FI and Audigy 2 work just fine with C&Q enabled. So Audigy 4 should work fine too.

  • Cool and Quiet problem on K8N Neo2 Platinum v1.3 bios

    Hello
I have a problem with the Cool and Quiet feature on the K8N Neo2 Platinum (v1.3 bios).
As soon and I boot the Core Center v1.7.0.0 will instantly overclock my A64 3500+ CPU to 3000+ Mhz.  Of course this reboots my PC.
I have Cool and Quiet enabled in the bios, Automatic overclocking disabled in the bios and the Core Center softwares overclocking is (well it was) disabled?  How can I install it or get it to stop overclocking the system.
I want to run the Core Center to enable the Cool and Quiet fan controlling stuff.
    Thanks

Strange that Corecenter would overclock your cpu to 3ghz. It's known to be unreliable software, but not that unreliable.
Are you running a stock 3500+, or are you overclocking the HTT/FSB beyond 200?
Previous posted was right about cool and quiet software. You don't need corecenter to run it. Just stay away from corecenter and even uninstall it
Cool and quiet software (a device driver that you download from AMD, or that comes pre-installed with XP SP2) simply works as follows. It introduces the notion of several p-states (processor states) that it switches between based on its reading of cpu load. A p-state is a pairing of cpu voltage and cpu multiplier.  On my 3200+ newcastle, the p-states are:
    1.5V, 11x
    1.4V, 10x
    1.3V, 9x
    1.1V, 5x
Your 3500+ might be similar. Anyway, just run cpu-z instead of corecenter to watch your cpu speed changing on the fly.
As far as fan speeds go: the cool and quiet driver doesn't affect fan speeds.  That means to get the "quiet" part of "cool and quiet" you need either
    (a) a fan that has a temperature sensor and which automatically changes its speed based on that, or
    (b) just use the motherboard BIOS setting to do the same via bios software.
    (c) use speedfan to do the same via windows software.
I myself prefer (b) but it depends on the bios accurately reporting temperature, which can vary wildly between bios releases (e.g. newcastles didn't start getting accurate temp reports until bios 1.4).

  • Cool and Quiet on K8T Neo2-F V2.0

    I have been playing a bit with a K8T Neo2-F V2.0 (s939) and a Winchester 3200+.
There seem to be a problem with the CPU fan control while using Cool and Quiet.
BIOS is v3.6, os WINXP SP3, latest AMD proc driver installed.
CnQ enabled in BIOS, Minimal power management in power options.
The C'nQ itself works fine, but the fan blowing full blast 3300rpm all times.
Is this a known problem? CnQ work fine in kubuntu 64-bit as well but no fan slowdown.
Corecenter does not support this board.
Tried speedfan, but on a brief test could not get it control the fan, unless I did something wrong.

This board has no option for Smartfan in BIOS.
From the manual, whatever it means for this board(seem like its just copied from a more feature rich board manual):
"If the mainboard has a System Hardware
Monitor chipset on-board, you must use a specially designed fan with speed sensor to take
advantage of the CPU fan control."
Currently using the stock HS& fan. Need to find a working solution for fan control.

  • Crackling Issues with AMD Cool'n'Quiet and Intel SpeedS

After enabling AMD Cool'n'Quiet on my Vista 64 computer ([url="http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=Vista&message.id=2093">see this thread[/url]), I noticed that I had crackling in my audio from my Creative X-Fi. I put my Minimum Processor State back to 00%, and the crackling is gone. With both Minimum and Maximum Processor State on 00%, I have no crackling issues. I haven't tested Intel SpeedStep, but I would imagine that will also cause this problem. Can anyone verify this?Message Edited by dypsis on 03-25-200706:32 PM

I am running MSI K8N Neo Platinum/SLI 64FX? with 4gbram?I have never really used the cool n quiet utility becasue it always seemed to make the motherboard fans whine somewhat, for this purpose I enabled and disabled cool n quiet several times, and I honestly didnt hear any difference in sound, albeit the fan whinning was there. I dont know if this is conected or not, its possible cool N quiet creates other noise as well. I never did like the util. But, it might stand to reason that if the utility was creating voltage or signal variations it could cause the rice krispies syndrome so many people have been talking about. Have to get some more feedback on this issue.

  • Cool and Quiet question

Does cool and quiet reduce the fan speeds of all the fans plugged into the mobo or just the CPU fan?

CoreCenter's Cool'n'Quiet only adjusts CPU fan speed while AMD's Cool'n'Quiet  adjusts CPU speed. Here's a link to AMD's guide

  • Correct CPU temp for a P4 3.06 with & w/out water cooling

What is the correct CPU temp for a P4 3.06?
and also what should the temp show for a P4 3.06 running
    an Innovatek Water Cooling System
    Many thanks,
    Acinom

Thanks for all the great info!!
I am running idle (cpu) at btw 44c and 46c. When I installed a game (quake) and then played it my temp rose to 52c. So I guess I am ok right now. I would like it to run a little cooler however.
    I am running Innovatek -
    CPU block
    Northbridge Block
    Video Card water block
    2 HD blocks
Innovatek Konvekt -O-Matic passive water cooling heat dissipation: over 4 pounds and 13 1/2 inches long by 9 inches high
Also I am using the NEW Nanotherm PCM+ on all blocks (cpu, gpu, northbridge)
All the blocks are smooth, no leaks. I am using an Eheim 2011 pump which also holds over 1000ml reservoir AND I have a tank-o-matic 280ml reservoir. I am using distilled water with the Innovatek conditioner (2 bottles equaling about 30% ratio). I have two fans in the system.
The only temp I can gauge is my CPU. I do not know how to check my GPU or Northbridge temps although I would like to know how, please. My ambient room temperature is around 72 to 74 degrees.

  • Cool and Quiet ok to use on NF980-G65 / 965 CPU?

    Hi,
I'm wondering if it's safe to use the cool and quiet option in the bios on the NF980-G65 motherboard with the AMD 965 Black Edition CPU.
I had the MSI overclocking center open (I'm not overclocking just monitoring the temperatures) and heard this faint siren sound, thought it was one of my neighbors car alarms.  Once I discovered that it was coming from my computer I opened HWMonitor and noted that the CPU fan was only running at 3%, and I guess that's lower than what ever is configured in the MSI Overclocking center since the alarm noise was coming from the overclocking center.
The CPU was still in the safe zone at about 54°c at the time that the CPU fan was down running at 3%, my guess was due to cool and quiet taking over maybe.
I've read that this CPU can go pretty high in temps but of course we should try to keep it as cool as possible so this leaves me baffled about the cool and quiet (if that's what causes it) to drop the CPU fan down to about 1680RPM since the temps seem like they would have kept rising if the fan doesn't speed up.
Anyway, is it safe to use Cool and Quiet on this mainboard with this CPU?

Unfortunately, I live in a 40+ year old house, in the desert, where our now summer month temps are into the 3 digit marks (100-121°f) and this house doesn't have insulation in the walls so the temps inside are only maintained at 76°f and the computer room is a bit hotter than that even with the central air going and an additional window a/c unit in the computer room.
I am using the Thermaltake Element G box which has a huge fan on the side door, a very large fan on the front, an equally large fan to exhaust on the back, an large fan again on the top of the case and finally, 2 60mm fans on the back to exhaust near the video cards and so my CPU runs probably warmer than the average person that is able to keep their rooms down to 65°f unfortunately.
Anyway, the cool and quiet used to be turned off and I had the other options on so that it would try to maintain the CPU at 45°c which it's perfectly capable of doing when I'm not playing games, and of course it's still capable fo keeping it under 60°c when playing games, and most of the time the temps dont' get above 57°c when playing demanding games but it concerns me that the CPU fan would drop to only 3% using cool and quiet and I'll likely turn it off again but I'm still curious if there is any known issues with running cool and quiet on this mainboard and CPU.
    Thanks for the reply

  • K8n neo bios 1.4 temps and cool n quiet

    Hi,
I recently flashed to bios 1.4 and it has been fine thus far.  However I have two issues that may be related to this new bios.
Windows XP utilties (mbm, sandra, speedfan, even corecell) all report my temps to be in the mid 30 degrees C, however the bios reports them as 45 degrees, which should I trust?
Also I think I've gotten half of cool n quiet working, vcore is down when cpu is not doing intensive work and so is the multiplier, making it run approx 1 GHz give or take.  However, I believe that my AMD stock fan always spins around the same speed (approx 3200 rpm), regardless whether the cpu is doing intensive work or idles, is something wrong?  I have the cool, wheres the quiet where my fan is supposed to slow down?
    Any help is appreciated!
    XP SP2
    A64 3200+ Newcastle
    K8N Neo Bios v1.4
512 MB PQI Turbo Black Memory
    Stock HSF
    Maxtor 60 GB

well the temperature in bios is very likely to to be above of that in windows, because cool n quiet doesnt work in bios and processor runs at normal frequencies there. The fan speed problem can be either of two things i know, first is that you haven't enabled smart cpu fan in bios and other is if you go to standby and then resume, it seems that cool n quiet works after it but mobo doesn't control the fan speed after standby. These are just some things i have noticed. The bios 1.4 is very good btw (atleast for normal use, i dont't overclock so no idea about that).

  • Cool'n'Quiet not working like it should!

Well, I decided to try Cool'n'Quiet to see how much cooler and quieter my system would get. So I enabled it in BIOS and set Windows power management to Minimal, and watched the clock speed and voltage go down as the CPU load went down.
It stopped at about 1.3v and 1800 Mhz. It won't go any further! My friend practically has the same setup except he uses a 3000+ ClawHammer, and his clock speed and voltage decreases much more than mine. I've read that the clock speed should hit 1000 Mhz.
To answer some possible questions, yes, I have installed the latest AMD processor driver and yes, the CPU load is under 10% when I'm checking.
    Thanks in advance!

If you install the latest beta BIOS 1.2B12, you will see that CnQ can drop the multiplier down to 5.   But some people have seen instability with that BIOS.  I have not.

  • CPU temps/cooling?

So, I finally have gotten my system running, but to say it's unstable would be an understatement.  It gives a BSOD on a regular basis.  I've downloaded memtest, and it sees no errors in the RAM.  I made sure to buy the tested and approved memory for my K8T Master2 FAR.  I'm wondering if my CPUs are overheating.  After the last BSOD, I went into the BIOS and looked over the temp readings.  They were showing about 45 C.  Now, this was in the BIOS after a brief cooling off from a memory dump.  I wonder what the temp actually is under load.  I can't get the system to stay up long enough to actually install the Core monitoring software.  I took the side of the case off, and the CPU temps dropped immediately by about 5-6 degrees C (about 10 degrees Farenheit).
So what is a normal idle temp for these processors?  Can anyone recommend a good hs/fan replacement for what came with the mobo?  At the moment I'm pretty frustrated with the instability.  I'm thinking it's heat related, since I've done several clean installs of the OS, with new RAM.  I've swapped out vid cards, and disabled all the onboard hardware.  It's more than a little annoying at this point.  If anyone thinks the problem might be something other than heat, let me know.  I'm powering the board with a 380 Watt Antec power supply.

    Two thoughts about the temps.
First: with current BIOS'es (up to 1.3b5) and newer revisions of the opteron CPU's you will suffer from "Newcastle syndrome". BIOS and monitoring utilities will show temperatures that are way too high (I've heard 20 deg celsius). To check this feel the heatsink immediately after the system shuts down. If its not very hot than this may be your problem. Because of this the system may initiate shutdown if you have that option enabled in the BIOS. You should disable that option, or configure the shutdown temperature as high as it will accept. .
The system isn't initiating the shutdown.  It simply crashes out to a memory error (IRQL, PFL, Thread Release).  But about the power supply... I have a Raidmax 400W that I will try on it next.  I was wondering if the PSU was sufficient.
    Quote
Second: you describe that the temperature drops fast after opening the case. This could be an indication that airflow in the closed case is insufficient. Try running it with the case open for a while and check the temperatures. (not too long, because the cooling of other components may suffer..) If this is your problem the usual fixes are: check the directions of the case fans, remove cables out of the way, make sure th CPU fans are not obstructed.
    Good luck.
As of yet, it hasn't crashed while running with the case open....  not that I recall anyway.

  • AMD Athlon 64 Cool and Quiet - not working

    Hello,
everything is now working on my Arch workstation, except c'n'q.
First, I searched the forum for information and tried quite a lot of things, yet it is not working.
    The following modules are loaded:
    * powernow-k8
    * cpufreq_ondemand
    As for the daemons:
    * acpid
    * cpufreqd
The CPU is always up running at full speed. In other distros I was used to daemons like powernowd who did the frequency scaling, and so I went on and pacman'ed powernowd (pkgbuild), yet it does not work. Of course c'n'q is enabled in BIOS. Btw, I also tried athcool.
I'd be glad for any help.

  • 870A-G54 - Cool'n Quiet not working

    Hi folks,
I've just got an 870A-G54 ( http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=2057 ) and have a Athlon II x3 450 in there. I've tried to get Cool'n Quiet working but it's simply not throttling the CPU. Both AMD Overdrive and windows system-panel show the speed to be 3.2Ghz on all three cores despite the PC idling.
    - The power-management is set to minimal.
    - Cool'n Quiet is "enabled" in the Bios - also tried "auto" to no avail.
    - I've installed the drivers from the website. Whenever I try to install them again I get a message saying they're "already installed". I can't seem to find a way to uninstall them (nothing in add/remove panel). I've even uninstalled all my other AMD processor drivers/utilities (i.e. Overdrive), but it /still/ says I have the drivers installed.
Using Windows XP SP3 32 bit.
Note: I have not, overclocked, nor do I intend to.
Any suggestions on how to remove the driver and re-install it? Or, what else may be wrong?
    Thanks.

Ok, fresh install of XP SP3 on a separate partition. Absolutely nothing changed from the base install (apart from the mouse-buttons swapped). I try and install the Cooln'Quiet drivers from the MSI website (bottom of - http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=2057 ).
When I try and install it, it gives an error saying:
"The machine does not have a supported AMD Athlon 64 Processor".
This happened with this partition of XP too, but I couldn't replicate it so thought maybe it was my memory or I was going crazy. CPU is still reporting 3.2Ghz.
The download page states: "• AMD Athlon™ 64/Sempron™/Turion™ 64/Opteron™ systems". My processor is an "Athlon II". Looking at the date and the version number, the drivers are very out-dated. The other version I aquired from who-knows-where is XP 1.3.2 for XP and almost a year later. The MSI page has 1.2.2.0. The Athlon II's date from 2009 onwards according to wikipedia.
So where do I get current Cooln'Quiet drivers?
Also, as mentioned I've tried both "Optimized" defaults and "fail-safe" defaults in the BIOS with CoolnQuiet enabled. No change.

I've upgraded the BIOS to 1.1 and activated the cool n quiet mode. I've also downloaded the AMD driver (1.1.0.0) and installed that.
The CPU still runs at full speed. Have I missed something, or is it just pot luck whether this works or not?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks,
    Neil Urwin.

I just flashed to 1.2 and stilll no CnQ.
From other  posts I'm wondering if the problem is related to one or both of:
Win2K + Athlon 64 3000+.  That's what I have and others with trouble seem to
have the same. I tried reloading the AMD drivers, removing CoreCenter
and  the only thing that works ever is the fan speed control. I never get the
extra folder in power options under control panel.  Maybe since the Win2K
AMD driver is so old it doesnt detect the cPU properly and therfore doesnt start up?
I may still switch the CPU fan over to the Zalman CuAl since the retail AMD fan has a loud hum at 2500-3000RPM. But the reduced wattage and heat is worth trying to get if possible.
I already ordered more RAM and WinXP Pro from newegg so I guess I can see
if its the OS level/AMD drivers also fix the problem.
Overall I'm happy with the board. Its stable under Linux (RH 9.0) and Win2K under prime95 tests for hours. Haven't had time to try day long tests. Certainly stable under hours of BF1942.
For those of you hyper about RAM settings checkout the Ace' s hardware test.
I'm a bit suprised that it matters so little for the Athlon 64 but it's nice to hear.
Though I'm always amazed at people paying huge sums for better RAM for meager performance improvements- especially on real world programs and games.

AMD64 versions of RH Fedora Yarrow test failed to detect I had a graphics card.
Wierd since /proc seems fine.  Anyone have a favorite AMD64 linux distro that works well installed from CDROM or ftp?  I may just wait- little to gain at the moment suffering through beta quality software/OS.
