CPU Throttling Qosmio F60
I have a Qosmio F60. Model number : PQF65L-00W011
Specs : Intel Core i3 m330 2.13GHz
Nvidia GT 330M 1GB DDR3
4GB DDR3 1066 MHz RAM
So, I'm trying to play some games, like Battlefield 3, Killing Floor and Grid Autosport.
On Battlefield 3 I got around 40, sometimes 30 FPS when everything is set to low. On Killing Floor I got like 50-60 FPS. And the last one, which is Grid Autosport I got around 40-50 FPS.
All of this games, after playing like 10-20 minutes, drops to single digits FPS like 1-7 FPS.
I believe this is caused by CPU throttling. Are there anyway to fix this? I'm sorry if you don't understand me as I'm not English.
That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.

>Have you noticed this behaviour on all games you want to play or just by newest games?
I talking about (Starcraft 2) it was working perfectly before but new the sound lag badly that i disable the music and scape the cinematic part to play it.
>While gaming, do you use your notebook with high performance power plan?
Yes I use it.
By the way: sending DX info is OK but Im 100% sure nobody here will read this. I hope someone read it.
@ Xardas,
I try all the things you just say, and sadly it doesn't work. I have the last display and sound driver and last DirectX, I use the high performance power plan while gaming.
I try Disable AntiVirus/Firewall while gaming but it the same it doesn't work.
thanks. -
i have just purchased a qosmio f60-033 and i was wondering what the battery life is like on the 6cell battery with the discdrive disabled (non-eco & eco mode)
also out of curiousity
will the battery life die quicker if i use the laptop with the battery in while connected to the ac adapter? or will the battery stop charging when it is fully charged
thanks :)Hi
You dont need to remove the battery while the AC adaptor is connected.
The connected AC adaptor will not affect the new age batteries.
> i have just purchased a qosmio f60-033 and i was wondering what the battery life is like on the 6cell battery with the discdrive disabled (non-eco & eco mode)
The battery working time depends on the notebook usage. There are many different factors which could affect the battery working time; for example the software which is running, display backlight level, background processes and CPU/GPU usage rate etc
I know once for sure; this is a multimedia notebook and you should not expect that you could work longer than 1.5h-2 hours with the battery power. -
I have found a solution to all my Power Manager/CPU throttling problems!!! Though there is some good and bad news.
{EDIT: The problem has NOT been fixed, even after latest PowerManager (3.62) and BIOS (1.30) versions. Pretty much ignore anything I say below as the problem is still occurring. You can see my full post here: http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W520-Speedstep-not-working-properly-on-battery-...}
Good news: I have NONE of the throttling issues or inconsistent CPU frequency problems I was having before on AC or battery power. Everything, including TurboBoost on battery works! It is completely fixed! (I have no idea how this factors into Lenovo’s statements that TurboBoost is disabled on battery “by design”. There is at least one other post from someone else that also reported TurboBoost was working for them on battery)
Bad news: I don’t really know which one of the many things I tried actually worked. I am sorry I wasn’t more methodical about recording what I did and checking results, but this was my last ditch effort to get this fixed on my own without sending the system in for repair and frankly, I didn’t think it would work. Now that it has worked, I’m hoping my steps can help others.
For anyone interested, here’s what I did… and before anyone says something like “That has nothing to do with managing power/cpu, why would that help?!… etc., please keep in mind I’m just stating exactly what I did. I am aware some of the steps may not be relevant, but who knows… We all know how weird PC’s are sometimes, even the smallest, oddest thing may resolve a problem. So anyway, here goes.
**IMPORTANT** Not sure how many noticed, but there was a new version of Power Manager released a few weeks ago, 3.62. The PM driver seems to have stayed the same. That alone could very well be the sole fix, I’m not sure. You may just want to completely remove PM and PM driver and install the latest version before trying any of the steps below.
1)Made a complete system image via Windows built-in backup feature
2)Disable any 3rd party fan/CPU control utilities (Throttlestop, etc). Make sure they are also not going to run at startup or from a scheduled task
3)Remove Power Manager Driver, then remove Power Manager software
4)Reboot to Windows
5)Remove all traces of the Power Manager drivers/software directories (think it was something like C:\readyapps and C:\drivers.) **For some odd reason after I did this, my wireless stopped working but it resolved itself by the time I was done with these steps, strange
6)Reboot
7)Access BIOS and reset all settings to default
8)Boot into Windows, downgrade to BIOS 1.25 [UEFI: 1.25 - 8BET44WW / ECP: 1.14 8AHT32WW ] via the Windows flash utility. I wanted to downgrade all the way back to 1.06, but the software would throw up some error for any version prior to 1.25 and wouldn’t proceed
9)Reboot to Windows; make sure system booted w/ out issues
10)Reboot again, access BIOS, reset to defaults again
11)Shut down system
12)Disconnect AC power. Remove main battery. Access and disconnect system backup (a.k.a CMOS) battery under keyboard. Discharge residual power in the system (there are various ways to do this, but you could just leave the battery disconnected for a few minutes). Visually inspect the system for anything funky…my system had a slightly but noticeably loose CPU/GPU heat sink/fan assembly power connector.
13)Reconnect backup battery.
14)Reconnect AC power but leave main battery disconnected.
15)Power on. Should get a message indicating “checksum error, system time reset” or something like that.
16)Reboot to Windows. Verified still okay.
17)Downloaded latest BIOS version, 1.26. This time I burned the bootable BIOS flash CD instead of running it through Windows.
18)Restart and boot from disc, flash BIOS to 1.26. Once complete, restart. Verify BIOS set to defaults.
19)Boot back into Windows.
20)Install latest Power Manager driver (1.62 ), reboot if/as prompted. Install Power Manager (3.62), reboot as prompted.
21)Boot into Windows, verified Power Manager was active and working. Verified TurboBoost was working. Restarted system a few times and played around with Power Manager for a bit to see if the different power plans worked and retained the settings, all the while monitoring the Intel TurboBoost utility and PM’s own “power gauges”. Let system Sleep, changed power sources, resumed, etc. Everything was working great.
22)Shutdown, reconnect main battery. Booted into Windows. Again, fiddled with Power Manager for a bit, switching between power plans and AC/battery power. Still worked great.
23)Success!
That’s it. Again, this is not a guaranteed fix guide. These are just simply the steps that I took on my system that resolved the problems many of us are having. Hopefully it will work for others.

Does Qosmio F60-00Y have an Optical Audio Output (toslink\spdif)?
Does the Toshiba Qosmio F60 Australian model have an optical audio output?
Hi
I found this Toshiba page about Qosmio F60-00Y:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums//thread.jspa?messageID=194743
Unfortunately, there is nothing about SPDIF and digital output.
I found some details about European F60 series and didnt find any info about SPDIF
For me it looks like the SPDIF is not available but this is just an assumption -
Re: Qosmio F60-100 Blue-ray doesn't start movie or even menu
Hey guys !
My Toshiba Qosmio F60-100 works perfectly. There's just the blu ray drive that causes problems, because each time I put a Blu ray in, it starts the "Win DVDBD" program but never starts to play the movie or even the menu.
I just don't know how I can solve this problem.
I have already tried with the famous update but when I try to install it, i get a message telling me that the update isn't for my computer.
Thanks in advance for your help.
VolkiYeah I've tried several BDs. It's really strange because sometimes it worked, but after I restarted it two or three times. Now It's the fourth Disk that makes reading problems. Now, I remember. I got to solve the problem once, because I registrated for win dvdbd. It worked .. until I shutted down my laptop. Now it's the same as before.

Qosmio F60 - No picture on webcam
Have just purchased a new Qosmio F60 and the webcam was working, it worked for a day or two and now the webcam light comes on but no picture. I have audio when I do the settings but I cannot get any picture.
Have tried everything my limited knowledge allows, including updates and re-installing the drivers but still only audio, no picture.Hi buddy,
Do you use the webcam with Camera Assistant Software or another program like Skype? If you use another program like Skype you should close the Camera Software. You cant use two programs at the same time they access the webcam.
If its not working you should update the webcam driver. You can download the newest version here:

Dial-up connection for Qosmio F60/05E Notebook
I need dial-up connection.
What external modem will work with Qosmio F60/05E laptop running Windows7?
Thereis no socket for phone cable, no dial-up modem built inside this Toshiba laptop.Visit your local dealer and buy newest external dial-up modem compatible with Win7 64bit.
I presume all of them should work properly. Just be sure they are supported for 32/64bit operating systems. -
Qosmio F60 PQF65A-00Y002 Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
After installing Windows SP1 I had a number of problems. I can't see how they were directly related but maybe some indirect effect. One of them is that suddenly I have a few very agreessively bad sectors on my HDD. A surprise as before SP1 the computer was all fantastic and reliable. However, after the fateful SP1 install I had immediately difficulties with the computer slowing down, the index corrupting etc. Chkdsk /R hangs up in the 4th part. I bought Spinrite and it found two locations on the disk which it cannot recover even after running it for several days and then repeating. The problem for me is that I had no good system image - my last backup failed and I did not get around to repeating it and now Windows backup system image fails and also third party backup stuff like EASEUS Todo Backup fails. I want to get a system image and then be able to replace the HDD. Is there any Toshiba tool for this model to help mark those sectors as bad so that the computer ignores them when doing a system image backup?Qosmio F60/00Y (PQF65A-00Y002)

Whining (bleep sound) Qosmio F60
Hey !
My Qosmio F60 making a very annoying bleep sound. The source of this bleep is approximately the left side of the keyboard under the Q,W,A,S buttons. It's only if the notebook don't have to work hard. If i am playing games or watching TV the sound is gone.
Anybody have the same problem ?
Maybe you can help me out to solve this problem.
Thanks

Start your notebook, enter BIOS settings and leave it for a while. Can you hear this sound again?
To be honest it is not easy to say for sure what it can be but if you can hear it again and again I think you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. You have new notebook with valid warranty so the repair will be for free.
Some software related issue can be fixed easily but I presume described issue is hardware related issue, so best option is to contact service and ask for help. -
Re: Qosmio F60 - sound disappear sometimes
Sometimes without being my laptop in silent mode the sound cannot be heard.
Then I go to the windows bar and after that pressing on mute button to be in silent mode and pressing the same button again then the sound appear.
Does any one have an idea to end this think and to make it works directly.

That simple:
Either you will use the HDD recovery or you will use the Recovery disk this disk should be created using the preinstalled software Toshiba recover disk creator.

Thats a problem from my knowledge the ASP would test the notebook with factory settings and if the issue would not appear using factory settings then this would mean that the hardware is ok -
Qosmio F60-00Y slow/laggish
Hello,
I've got a Qosmio F60-00Y notebook which is generally very fast but yesterday night at around 10:30-11:00 PM (16th September Australian Eastern Standard Time) I noticed that it was lagging - scrolling on Firefox was 'delayed' rather than smooth, so I'd scroll down and Firefox would sort of freeze for a few seconds and then I'd be down the page accordingly.
I've done a number of things:
-taken the battery out and put it back in
-updated BIOS
-vacuumed the outside vents
-restarted numerous times
-malware/spyware/virus checks
-uninstalled Firefox
All of this has seemed to improve it slightly but it's still not as fast as it was before. I uninstalled Firefox because I remembered that it had updated yesterday - I'm not sure the exact time and installed Google Chrome which is quicker, but the other applications such as Windows Media Centre are still quite slow. Even minesweeper lags slightly.
Processor: Intel i7 2.67GHz
RAM: 4 GB (2.98 usable)
OS: Windows 7 32-bit
Fan speed is a constant 60-70% according to Health Monitor, I don't know if that's normal.
It takes longer to shut down and boot up than it used to, about a minute to boot up and then considerably longer than usual to log in and load all the things I have on start up, which isn't a lot.
Applications take longer to load up and lag, even when I right click on some things it lags which I've never had.
I've got no clue whether it's hardware or software. I tried the vents because I hadn't done that in a while and it gets a bit dusty as I don't move it much. The manual recommends cleaning the cooling system every few months, should I try that?
Thanks.Hi buddy,
Of course you can use this complete backup file as well but its only useful if you didnt have this problem at the time you created complete backup file because this could be a software issue.
In worst case you must do a recovery installation (factory settings). This would wipe the whole HDD but so you can make sure if its a hardware issue or not.

Qosmio F60-111 was delivered without any recovery disks
Dear Support Team,
Yesterday 31/07/2010 , i went to Toshiba distributer in KSA and i bought Qosmio F60-111, From Jarir Book Store.
When i arrived home, i found that the package don't have the Recovery disks, or the Operating system.
So please i want to know is this the deal?
To buy this powerful laptop and to be surprised that it don't have a recovery disks ?
I've checked the package so many times and i couldn't find any disk!
Please let me know if this is normal or i dunno.
I feel i am scammed :S
Anis.Hi,
> but still my question is not answered!
> is it normal that the F60-111 Qosmio comes without recovery disks?
Yes, it is normal. I bought my laptop without a recovery disk, too. If you read product specifaction, you will find that your lap comes Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery) You should burn recovery disk yourself

my laptop has an extremly slow boot time so i downloaded soluto to check if a program is causing it and after multiple tests it takes 4-5 mins till i can use it. so i used the hdd recovery and reinstalled windows 7. and now it takes ~3 mins to boot. also soluto showed that the"system" takes 40-60 secs to open which is high compared to "weaker" machines in my house (~18 secs)

Qosmio F60 - Can I use my other Windows 7 disk to install?
I'm buying a Toshiba Qosmio F60 within the next few days and I saw that it comes with a 64bit restore partition but preinstalled with 32bit. I was wondering if I can use one of my other Windows 7 home premium 64bit oem disc's to install windows 7 and use the product key on the back without voiding warrenty and have it pass validation?
Because I like a nice clean Windows install without all that other stuff like office trials and oem software.
Not sure if this is the right place or not but sounded right.if its the same edition of windows it shouldent matter should it? and uninstalling things tends to leave a messy windows install, i will install a few of the utilities that the defualt one comes with but alot of the stuff new PC's come with can be hard to uninstall and tied into each other.
becouse it comes with a recovery partition with win7 home premium 64 bit presumably OEM, i understand that windows oem for large companies eg toshiba use a file ti activate that matches up to the specific hardware of the pc, but u should still be able to activate it online or on the phone the normal way as long as its the same edition and pc should u not?
