CPU Upgrade DV7 1020us - Intel QX9300

Hi there! I am planning to upgrade my DV7-1020us, changing his Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 to another with virtualization technology. I was wondering if the Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme QX9300 would work in this notebook, would it?If not, which one is the best compatible choice? P.S: I think the QX9300 would be compatible, since the Intel PM45 ChipSet has it on its compatible product listing here (http://ark.intel.com/products/35135/Intel-82PM45-Memory-Controller-Hub#@compatibility), but I have read around that HP can limit somehow the use of new CPU on their notebooks.I already updated my BIOS to the latest version (F.2D Rev.) on HP drivers. Thanks!

Thanks for replying PeerOne. So, the processor arrived about two days ago, and everything seens fine with it. I made the upgrade AND.... dramatic pause..... It didn`t worked. The notebook does not even show the display. It starts normally but suddenly the fan stops, nothing on the screen, and the caps look and num look LEDs starts to blink, indicating some random error codes. Sometimes It blinks the "memory not functional" code, but also blinks the graphical module issue. Only one or two times it blinked the CPU issue. I really did a deep research about BIOS and the CPUs microcodes that should be in it for it to support a new processors. After that research I concluded that my BIOS has the microcodes of the QX9300, and I was pretty confident then. Also tried to change the memory to a faster one, mine are the original ones (2x Samsung PC2- 6400 400MHz- 2GB) but It didn`t worked either. I really don`t know what should happen when you insert a incompatible processor. Should the screen be blank and the LEDs blink? Or should It at least show the BIOS screen and display some specific message?I need to answer this questions to conclude, is the processor really incompatible, or is it broken? Thanks. P.S.: I`ll keep this post updated if I discover something new. (Link about Insyde BIOS and microcodes - http://donovan6000.blogspot.com.br/2013/06/insyde-bios-modding-cpu-microcodes.html)

    Hi,
Yes, according to a service manual for Dv7-4000 you may upgrade to several Intel Core i7 processors..
    Intel Quad Core i7-840QM 1.86-GHz processor, SC turbo up to 3.06-GHz, 45W - 612260-001
    Intel Quad Core i7-820QM 1.73-GHz processor, SC turbo up to 3.06-GHz, 45W - 583053-001
    Intel Quad Core i7-740QM 1.73-GHz processor, SC turbo up to 3.06-GHz, 45W - 612259-001
    Intel Quad Core i7-720QM 1.60-GHz processor, SC turbo up to 2.80-GHz, 45W - 586170-001
The part numbers are important and when you will look for the CPU, use the part number for searching on ebay or google. The same CPU with a different part number may not work, it must be the same part numbers as listed above..
    Dv6-7000 /Full HD/Core i5-3360M/GF 650M/Corsair 8GB/Intel 7260AC/Samsung Pro 256GB

  • I have a hp dv7-1020us. Can I upgrade the CPU and if I can what is the best I can obtain?

Just recently my hp dv7-1020us CPU performance has drastically been reduced to the extent that it runs at 75 to 100% capacity all the time. It is very noticable when accessing the internet. At times my screens take up to 60-seconds to change/refresh. I see "not responding" on most web pages accessed.
I had heard that possibly a CPU upgrade would correct the issue. What I have done most recently is upgrade the memory to 8gb, installed W7 Home and also downloaded IE9. The performance issue was noticed before I made all those changes. I have two hard drives installed, both are less than 50%. I have contacted the cable company about my cable router and they have remotely tested without any issues. I have also been runing daily virus scans to see if a virus has possibly infiltrated my system. I even re-installed my previous wireless router and there was no remarkable change.
If anyone has any ideas or solutions please let me know. I am actually looking at another computer, the dm4-3090se as a fix but don't really want to spend the money. I also have a small Asus netbook with 2gb's of memory that runs faster than my hp. My phone even accesses web sites faster. Again, if anyone has any ideas please share!

    Hi:
If you are interested in upgrading the processor (which may help only a little--depending on what processor you currently have), below is the link to the service manual.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142.pdf
Supported processors are listed in chapter 1, page 1.
Normally when my PC's begin to get real bogged down and I have maxed out the memory as you have, I back up my files and reinstall the operating system, and get a fresh clean start.

  • Help! DV7-1020US - "No emulation System Type 00" when upgrade Vista to WIndows 7

    Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade an HP DV7-1020us from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium.  When the laptop reboots as part of the installation, I get a message:
0: No emulation  system type 00
1: No emulation  system type 00
I've seen similar problems posted, but with no responses.
    Can anyone explain:
    1) Why am I getting these messages when I boot the system, and
    2) How to eliminate them?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi,
FYI, each time the laptop booted during the upgrade, it displayed those lines.
What I ended up doing is typing "0" (no Enter key, just "0") and then it'd boot through to Win7 for the next phase of the upgrade.
I was able to get through the Win7 upgrade process that way, and Win7 is now running on the laptop.
After completing the Win7 upgrade, I don't see those lines anymore when the laptop is booted.  Not sure why.
    Jim

  • CPU upgrade on Satellite L30-101

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L30-101. I've upgraded the RAM successfully to 2GB (2x 1GB) but I'm finding it incredibly hard to get information on processor replacements.
The laptop has the latest BIOS on it (3.10-WIN - 19/02/08) but when trying to find information regarding whats in it I'm hitting brick walls. Firstly the site > http://www.toshiba-tro.de/biosinfo/ < doesn't have my laptop on it,
    Product Type: Notebook
    Family: Satellite
    Product Series: Satellite L Series
    Model: ? unknown
    Short Model No: ? unknown
I did hope I could stick an Intel Duo in but with the ATI chipset, I'm pretty sure it wont work but again without knowing whats within BIOS, compatible.. I'm lost. The only processor I can find which may work, same package, FSB, socket is an Intel Core Solo Processor T1350 which kicks out 1.86 GHz, not a massive difference and I'm sure it can't be the only replacement option.
Could someone and staff please help me with getting hold of BIOS info and compatible processors for my laptop. The current Intel Celeron M Processor 410 kicking out 1.46 GHz isn't good enough for Vista (cert on laptop) and basic multi tasking. Its lagging way too much even after a good tune up, ram upgrade, HD upgrade to 7200RPM. I'm in need of a processor upgrade but as mention finding it incredibly hard to obtain information of which would be compatible.
    Sincerely,
    Gourcuff

    Hello
In my opinion your attempt to replace CPU is wrong. Why? Satellite L30 is not designed to offer some fabulous performance and it is designed for everyday usage. Best evidence for this was the price. It was not so expensive.
Can you please tell us why do you want to have new CPU? Do you use some special software?
Back to CPU replacement. As you probably know mobile computers have limited upgrade options and it is related to RAM and HDD upgrade. It is definitely unprovided for CPU upgrade and it is not supported. Specific design, especially cooling system is designed for certain CPU.
Due to all this you will not be able to find any relevant info about CPU replacement.
Check please this Toshiba document - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

Is there an Apple  recommended path of upgrade for Mac Pro users in terms of CPU?

while there is never any Apple sanctioned, even graphic card upgrades are cloaked in mystery, the "Early 2008" is the only model that is hard to find cpu.
MacPro 2006-7 5355 8-core upgrade is very doable for $500 range, 2009-10 take Intel W3680 $620 drop in, only dual cpu Nehalem/Westmere are usuallu deemed way too expensive, but possible.

  • GX623 CPU Upgrade

    Hi guys, I've got a GX623 with a P7350 core 2duo in it currently.
I love this laptop and I want to keep it for as long as possible so I was looking at CPU upgrades.
I really want to put a qx9300 quad core in but I can't figure out if it would work
Was just wondering if anyone could help? Also, any idea how would it cope with temperatures?
    Thanks Guys!

    Thanks for the reply Svet.
Ah ok, I'm sorry to hear that, I did some reading up and I was almost sure it could be done   :(

Thanks for the quickly reply, we recently installed a NVIDIA Quadro K4200.

    We have a Dell Precision T7500 with 2 x Intel Xeon E5645 2.40GHz
The computer is being used for CAD work and rendering, the user complains the computer is slow which it is compared to the rest of the computers in our studio.  I've been told I can't replace it yet but can upgrade it.
I was wondering what would be the best CPU upgrade to do for CAD work?
Have run CPUID and can see it has Socket 1366 LGA, I'm unsure sure if I should be looking at an E or X series processor though.
Other upgrades I'm planning to do to the computer.
Have set aside a Samsung 850 Pro SSD we have spare to rebuild the OS onto.
    Going to remove mismatched RAM modules and install 2 x Crucial 16GB DDR3 PC3-12800 Registered ECC 1.35V 2048Meg x 72

Your Chipset Supports the Processor you want.
    Here's the reference
    Chipset Compatible CPU
    http://ark.intel.com/products/29821/Intel-82GM965-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller#@compatibility
But as per the Motherboard it will be limited to this list
CPU assembly, Intel Celeron M processor 540 (1.86 GHz)
CPU assembly, Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7100 (1.83 GHz)
CPU assembly, Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7300 (2.0 GHz)

  • CPU Upgrade questions

I was wondering if my laptop cpu can be upgraded from a intel pentium to a i5 and if so where do i find out the compatible CPU's?

Sorry it cannot be without also replacing the motherboard. See page 17 of the Manual here: Manual Celeron and Pentium models use a different motherboard so the best you can do is upgrade to the Pentium 2030M which is only .1 ghz faster than the 2020M you have. Installing a new motherboard and processor is not going to make financial sense. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

  • Upgrading dv7 system hardware

I have an old HP Pavilion dv7-1279WM (Intel) notebook computer that has been very reliable... however, it needs some upgrading to keep up with what I use it for now.  I've been reading the dv7 manual and trying to figure out what will work in it, but I have some questions:
RAM - currently only 4 GB, at 800 MHz.  I'd like to upgrade to 8 or 16 GB, preferably 1600 MHz or at least 1333 MHz.  Can it handle that?  Some places say it can only go up to 8 GB, but not sure about the MHz.
Hard drive - currently 500 GB, 5400 rpm, and I'd like to upgrade to 7200 rpm; would there be any problem with that?  I've found one that is the right size and thickness...
Processor - the dv7 manual online shows this processor is compatible:  Intel Core i7, 2820QM, 2.3 GHz.  But is that true for an older dv7 like mine?
And probably an upgrade to Windows 7, too.
Bottom line - am I kidding myself that this old machine can handle that level of upgrading?

Making hardware changes to a laptop is near impossible.  Making any changes to a laptop that old, even if possible would not make economic sense.
You could possibly upgrade to Windows 7

  • G500 Supported CPU Upgrade?

    My question is simple and I want an answer from the Lenovo Hardware experts themselves;
I want to upgrade to either of the two CPUs below
Intel Core i7-3632QM HM76 chipset and TDP of 35W
    or
    Intel Core i7-3840QM HM76 chipset and TDP of 45W + http://www.poweradapterlaptop.com/Lenovo/ADL135NLC3A.htm#
    Lenovo ADL135NLC3A 135W AC adapter
Currently the BIOS for Lenovo G500 is at V2.03,
The Lenovo W530 has this BIOS also which has an i7 3840QM so I presume I can upgrade to the i7 3840QM plus a 135W Adapter? correct me if I am wrong please I need a LENOVO tech hardware expert to answer please.

I dont have this system, I did visit the computer depo a while ago, and did find out regarding the mPCIE, the BIOS will readily accept the SSD, but at the risk of you losing wireless connectivity, which can be restored via USB wireless adapter. I dont fear BIOS not recognizing the cpu, I fear motherboard fry, hence I wont recommend CPU upgrade.
Yes Upgrading the CPU under warranty period will void you warranty, because the CPU is an FRU (factory replacable unit).  Regarding the Drive caddy I was thinking of a generic drive caddy, you can purchase one from ebay or amazon. The i5-3230M is still a very powerful mobile CPU. The biggest bottle neck in your system is the HDD, as first off the files are loaded from the HDD then cached to the RAM hence I recommended you install a generic drive caddy and put in your HDD there, and install an SSD. 8GB ram is the sweet spot, but if your keeping atleast 3 years in mind then 16gig will keep you satisfied for a long time. I DO NOT recomment CPU upgrade
Lets make 2015 the year of the #DO

  • MSI GX623 CPU upgrade experience anyone?

    Hi, guys!
I have GX623 with Intel P7350 CPU. I'm thinking about CPU upgrade...
Does anyone have tried to upgrade to CPU to T.... series, X..... series or even Q.... ? If yes, how laptop handles temperature? Because of bigger TDP it increases quite a lot? Cooling can handle It when running games and stressing GPU? How about support? Which bios is required? Maybe something else?
And I want to share some experience with you as well, as I'm using this laptop for year or so. I have HD4670m GPU. If your not playing games all the time (And I'm not), try switching to power saving mode for GPU in both plug-ed and unplug-ed scenarios in ATI Catalyst comand center. Since then my laptop, is a lot more quiet and cooler (therefore saving power) when multitasking at home or watching youtube etc... When gaming just push Eco button in gaming mode and - bang full GPU stress in no-time. OK, bit offpic but I was too lazy to create new one.
