CPU upgrade HP Dv4 5100 series
I own the DV4 5162la, I'm from Latin America and would like to know a few things about the posibilities of upgrading the processor of this machine. This notebook has an Intel i5 3210m processor, 8gb ram, 640 HDD 5400 rpm, and the Nvidia Geforce 650m and runs pretty cool even when gaming extensive the Nvidia card doesnt get that hot, and the CPU doesnt go further than 80 C.
I would like to know the possibility of upgrading the i5 processor to i7, I know this pc supports it because there were models that came with it and here is the service manual http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03317323.pdf which states that it supports the
Intel Core i7-3612QM 2.1 GHz processor (SC turbo up 3.1 GHz, 1600 MHz/6.0 MB L3 cache,
quad core, 35 W)
which is the one I'd be looking forward to upgrade. I love 14" screen so the dv6 wasnt an option for me but what concerns me is the heat that this processor may generate so if someone knows how much heat it produces compared to the i5 id love some information. And my other question is how much aprox would a especialist charge me for changing the processors. The processor itself costs beetween $230 to $330 and I could be buying it in a few months depending on the answer to the heat.
Thank you very much

Hi,
It won't heat a lot more than the original i5. That i7 is more powerful so it will be cooler than the i5 doing the same tasks. Also the i7 might be equipped in the same series laptops anyway so the chassis/design should handle the heat.
I can't tell you how much the replacement will cost but the procedures how to is described in the manual so you can do it yourself. It's not that difficult as it looks like or you think it is. Just follow the steps and pictures in the manual.

Blank screen after CPU upgrade for CQ60-119 series
Hi all.
The model:
I recently decide to upgrade my Compaq Presario CQ60-119TU purchased in 2008.
The upgrades:
My son will use it to play some games on it. Yes I know - it only has an integrated 4500M graphics chip - but this should be fine for Spore.
Apart from changing from 2 to 4Gb of Ram I will swap out the 250Gb to a 640Gb hard drive. The CPU is also being swapped out.
Existing CPU: Intel Celeron T1600 (1M Cache, 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
Replacement CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (6M Cache, 2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
The laptop manual states this CPU as the best spec'ed replacement CPU I can put in the laptop.
Prior to this I upgraded to the lated bios which is F.65. All was working well with the T1600 at this time.
Problem:
After replacing the CPU and pressing the power button the laptop boots up briefly for a couple of seconds and then powers off for a couple of seconds. It reboots and stays on (CPU fan is running) but there is nothing on the screen at any time.
If I replace the old CPU and the machine boots up with the screen displaying text so video appears not to be the issue (well ...not broken at least)
Any suggestions on how to get this CPU to work or is the CPU defective? Thanks in advance.Have a look here and you'll see that having the wrong mobo northbridge chipset (not compatible with the FSB of the processor) will cause the T9600 not to work. If you have the GL40 chipset forget trying to get this processor to work with your existing motherboard. If you have the GM45 chipset then your issue is probably something else.
Don't know what your chipset is? Download the free utiliy CPU-Z and run it.
FYI - The same model motherboard with the GM45 chipset is a 485219-001. -
1) What CPUs can I interchange in the dv4-1222nr? It comes with the amd rm-72
2) won't boot - fan powers up then powers down, then waits approx 12 sec, then caps lock & num lock flash approximately every two seconds. I interpret this as repeated flashing of one, but it keeps flashing.... diagnostic document says it's supposed to repeat only 6 times.
Scenario: Closed the laptop lid, which caused it to go to sleep, but this time it never awoke!. Fan has been grinding but still worked, however upon dissasembly discovered the heatsink was partially plugged. ALWAYS RAN HOT DUE TO POOR DESIGN. It was a hot day, and closing the lid actually increases the temperature.
3) I presume, and I am pretty sure about this, that this laptop has no thermal shutdown threshold, i.e. shuts down automatically when it gets too hot. Every desktop motherboard I've seen allows thermal limits to be set. Another fail.Hi,
This book shows you CPU's supported from day 1:

CPU upgrade on Satellite L30-101
Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L30-101. I've upgraded the RAM successfully to 2GB (2x 1GB) but I'm finding it incredibly hard to get information on processor replacements.
The laptop has the latest BIOS on it (3.10-WIN - 19/02/08) but when trying to find information regarding whats in it I'm hitting brick walls. Firstly the site > http://www.toshiba-tro.de/biosinfo/ < doesn't have my laptop on it,
Product Type: Notebook
Family: Satellite
Product Series: Satellite L Series
Model: ? unknown
Short Model No: ? unknown
I did hope I could stick an Intel Duo in but with the ATI chipset, I'm pretty sure it wont work but again without knowing whats within BIOS, compatible.. I'm lost. The only processor I can find which may work, same package, FSB, socket is an Intel Core Solo Processor T1350 which kicks out 1.86 GHz, not a massive difference and I'm sure it can't be the only replacement option.
Could someone and staff please help me with getting hold of BIOS info and compatible processors for my laptop. The current Intel Celeron M Processor 410 kicking out 1.46 GHz isn't good enough for Vista (cert on laptop) and basic multi tasking. Its lagging way too much even after a good tune up, ram upgrade, HD upgrade to 7200RPM. I'm in need of a processor upgrade but as mention finding it incredibly hard to obtain information of which would be compatible.
Sincerely,
GourcuffHello
In my opinion your attempt to replace CPU is wrong. Why? Satellite L30 is not designed to offer some fabulous performance and it is designed for everyday usage. Best evidence for this was the price. It was not so expensive.
Can you please tell us why do you want to have new CPU? Do you use some special software?
Back to CPU replacement. As you probably know mobile computers have limited upgrade options and it is related to RAM and HDD upgrade. It is definitely unprovided for CPU upgrade and it is not supported. Specific design, especially cooling system is designed for certain CPU.
Due to all this you will not be able to find any relevant info about CPU replacement.
Check please this Toshiba document - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm -

Dell Precision T7500 E5645 CPU Upgrade?
Sid Phiilips wrote:
I think I'd do the SSD and the RAM first and see how it goes. What is he running for a graphics card?
Thanks for the quickly reply, we recently installed a NVIDIA Quadro K4200.We have a Dell Precision T7500 with 2 x Intel Xeon E5645 2.40GHz
The computer is being used for CAD work and rendering, the user complains the computer is slow which it is compared to the rest of the computers in our studio. I've been told I can't replace it yet but can upgrade it.
I was wondering what would be the best CPU upgrade to do for CAD work?
Have run CPUID and can see it has Socket 1366 LGA, I'm unsure sure if I should be looking at an E or X series processor though.
Other upgrades I'm planning to do to the computer.
Have set aside a Samsung 850 Pro SSD we have spare to rebuild the OS onto.
Going to remove mismatched RAM modules and install 2 x Crucial 16GB DDR3 PC3-12800 Registered ECC 1.35V 2048Meg x 72

I just want to know that can i upgrade my cpu from P7450 to T9xxx series ? i compared specs these cpu's and i realised physical dimensions and manufacturing processes are same but compatiblity is important. I will be glad if somebody answer my question
This question was solved.
View Solution.Make sure and buy the newest model available.
Don't by used and stay away from eBay.
Old models can be unreliable and the new improvements on newer models have made them much more reliable.
Stick to a good brand name with a good warranty like Crucial or Kingston for example.
I have an older Samsung in my dv8 and a very new Kingston in my new desktop and both have been good _ so far.
Probably the best thing to do when you install your SSD is to simply use you W8 disc to install the OS from scratch, enter your product key _ then upgrade to W8.1.
Sometimes creating a back up image of an OS and then trying to install it on a new drive can be problematic, even more so when it comes to W8/8.1. -

MSI GX623 CPU upgrade experience anyone?
Hi, guys!
I have GX623 with Intel P7350 CPU. I'm thinking about CPU upgrade...
Does anyone have tried to upgrade to CPU to T.... series, X..... series or even Q.... ? If yes, how laptop handles temperature? Because of bigger TDP it increases quite a lot? Cooling can handle It when running games and stressing GPU? How about support? Which bios is required? Maybe something else?
And I want to share some experience with you as well, as I'm using this laptop for year or so. I have HD4670m GPU. If your not playing games all the time (And I'm not), try switching to power saving mode for GPU in both plug-ed and unplug-ed scenarios in ATI Catalyst comand center. Since then my laptop, is a lot more quiet and cooler (therefore saving power) when multitasking at home or watching youtube etc... When gaming just push Eco button in gaming mode and - bang full GPU stress in no-time. OK, bit offpic but I was too lazy to create new one.
LeezI have just performed an upgrade to a Q9000
on a MSi GX623, so here ya go
Proof! IT WORKS!!! and im super excited!!!

I have a Presario CQ5600Y with all stock components. Based on the system specs CPU Upgrade I can upgrade the CPU to an AMD Phenom Quad Core processor. Aside form dropping the new processor in the slot are there any other settings (Bios) that I need to update to ensure that the new processor works properly?
The specification of the motherboard sets the maximum TDP 95W AMD Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition it is not compatible because the TDT is 140W
Processor upgrade information
TDP: 95W
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades: NOTE:Only socket AM2+ processors are supported with this motherboard.
AMD Phenom II Quad-Core
AMD Phenom II Triple-Core
AMD Phenom Quad-Core (A) 9xxx series (AM2+)

CPU Upgrade - Satellite P100 Core2duo works 100%
I can now confirm that CPU upgrade from CORE DUO (T2300, T2400, T2500, T2600, etc.) to CORE 2 DUO (T7200, T7300,T7400,etc..)
on Satellite P100 (17", GF7600 GPU, etc.) with latest bios 3.30 is possible and it is working 100%. I tested this on P100-108 with T2300.
The upgrade to T7200 went without any problems and the bios identified successfully the new processor.
The downside of this upgrade is (if we ignore the high price of c2duo:-)) that in order to change the CPU on the P100 series you have
to pull out the mainboard which is a lengthy process (if someone needs help with the disassembly of his/hers laptop
I can post a detailed guide
for the P100).Hello Emil
I am very glad to hear you have had success with CPU upgrade. Can you please watch carefully how your notebook runs and maybe write a short report about usual notebook behavior like running cooling fan. Is now notebook louder and how it works with power saver profiles?
On this forum we do not have exact reports about that and your further postings will be very, very useful.
Thanks

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ cpu upgrade to AMD Athlon 64 X2
Hello everyone,
First of all, I have been to cpu-upgrade.com and typed in my current (CPU)--> AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.40GHz (motherboard)--> ASUS A8M2N-LA (Naos) GL6.
According to the website, my AM2 Socket (940pin) is capable of upgrading to a Dual Core, Anyone know if that site is accurate or not? Any help would be nice. I need to get away from this single core.
1) Some CPU models require a BIOS upgrade, which a BIOS upgrade for this board is not available.
2) A lot of X2 Dual Cores work either using a 4400+, 4600+, and so on....
I do have a 550watt PSU installed, also I am using MSI Nvidia GeForce GT620 PCI-express 16x graphics, not using onboard.
I have read that some BIOS' upgrades terminate the onboard video, is that true? Basically, whatever I already have installed is current and up to date with all video/sound drivers, etc... If anybody very knowledgable knows for sure if an AMD Athlon 64 X2 will work in my system that would be nice. My specs below......
OS: Windows Vista Home Basic (32bit)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.40GHz
RAM: 2GB (GDDR2)
PSU: 550watt (all 20+4 for main cable to motherboard connected using all 24 pins + 4pin connector for CPU? I believe.
Sound: Realtek HD ALC888 High Definition Audio
Video: MSI Nvidia GeForce GT620 (GDDR3 with 2GB Video Memory).
Only thing I am bottle necking on is the CPU, and I would love to upgrade to Dual Core, once again, thank you for the help.Hello @bigsnake,
I understand you are looking to upgrade your processor on your Compaq Presario Media Center SR2013WM Desktop PC. I am providing you with a link to a CPU-Upgrade thread concerning your very question ASUS A8M2N-LA CPU compatibility list. Now this is the only information I have been able to find concerning a processor upgrade for your Compaq Presario Media Center SR2013WM Desktop PC.
I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

Is CPU upgrade on Satellite 2410-303 possible?
My Satellite 2410-303 has Pentium 4 Mobile 1.7GHZ processor. I want to upgrade its processor to Pentium 4 Mobile 2.8GHZ. I think that it is possible because its upper models have faster processor and that is unique difference between them.
Please, help me for this question and tell me is it possible?Hello
You will be very lucky if someone has so good experiences with CPU upgrade on Satellite 2410 but on this forum you can find very nice comments about that. I have founded just two of them but very interesting. Check it out!

Satellite M40x will not boot up after CPU upgrade test
I have an M40x Laptop. I took the CPU out of it to replace it with another to test the computer booted up fine so I shut down and took it out and put it's original CPU back in, and it would not boot. Now it will not boot up at all with either of the CPU's all. When I turn on the power all I get is a white screen for a few seconds and the laptop shuts itself back down. Both the CPU's are good because I have since tested them in other computers to make sure that was not the problem.
Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this??Im not surprised.
As far as I know Toshiba does not support any CPU upgrades and it's not advisable to do something like that.
Its a fact that the CPU replacement on the notebooks is not easy and mostly not recommended.
The processors used in portables are connected to the system board using a process called TCP (Tape Carrier Package). This is a permanent connection method and is used in the interests of miniaturization and heat dissipation.
Did you assign the new heat paste? Its necessary and important if you want to connect the CPU again.
So possibly this is a reason for the no booting.
I think more details you will get from the service guys in your country -
I'd like to upgrade a tray-loading iMac with the CPU from one of the faster slot-loading ones - 350, 400, whichever.
I'd also like to swap a 450 or 500 MHz CPU from a DV SE that had firewire into the earlier, ordinary slot-loading version, which didn't.
Does anyone know if there's any reason there would be a problem doing either of these changes?
For that matter, if the DV motherboard's okay, any reason I couldn't use the whole thing in the slot-loader? I think there's a video problem, but if that's just a monitor thing and not on the board, it shouldn't be an issue.
Thanksyou are correct, the slot loaders do not have a separate CPU card, its soldered directly to the logic board.
There are CPU upgrades available for tray loaders (don't know if any are actually still produced anymore, but they do exist), but the cost usually just isn't worth it. You could get a used slot loader for the same amount,a nd a used eMac or mac mini for a little bit more.

Archiving iMovie (DV files) to data DVD-R? Any suggested program?
