CPU Upgrade on Toshiba Tecra M3

Hi,
I just finished refurbishing my Toshiba Tecra M3 (64MB Nvidia 6200 model) which had been dead for 6 months. Basically it had the mainboard changed (applied new daimond thermal grease over GPU/CPU due to overheating issue), new screen installed, new 160GB Samsung 5400 HDD and body plastics refursbished too and at present its working like a charm and as new condition inside out. The system currently holds a Pentium M 750 CPU (1.86GHZ) and I'm aware that such models supports up to 2.13GHZ. I have tried to replace the CPU with a 2.0GHZ Pentium M 760 SL7SM model however upon boot up, laptop powers up fine to bios but pwoers down soon after. Any idea's what the issue may be? The BIOS has been upgraded to 1.50 (latest version)
Thanks for any help.

Hi again, just managed to solve the issue by myself. I have resetted the mainboard from the bottom (aside VGA heatsink), reinstalled again latest version of BIOS i.e 1.50 and now I can run my Tecra M3 on a 2.26GHZ CPU (Pentium M 780).
P.S Currently averaging a 60deg temp CPU at high usage. Not that bad for the BBQ warrior.
Clive.

  • Tecra A11-11N does not boot after CPU upgrade

    Hi,
I would like to do a processor upgrade for my Tecra A11 11N from the i5-430M to a probably much faster i5.I thought the i5-580M would do, but the laptop did not boot when i installed this processor.
I reverted back to the 430M, did some research on the internet and found out that the 580M has a very high FSB speed and that is what probably made it not to work/incompatible with my machine.
    http://ark.intel.com/products/43537/
    http://ark.intel.com/products/49653
    http://ark.intel.com/products/49652
    and also at http://ark.intel.com/
Now i went back to the computer shop, returned the 580M and got an i5-560M as i compared it's specs and saw it would be compatible as it has the same FSB speed with the 430M.
I then later on in the day tried to install this cpu as an upgrade BUT alas!
    It STILL WON'T BOOT ALSO.
I was left dumfounded.Processors in the same familly line are supposed to be compatible with one another provided:Lithography, FSB and socket type are similar.
Or what am i missing here?
I have done processor upgrades in many instances for both desktops and laptops and this is the first one that has left me with no words to say!
    please offer some help/advice.

I solved this processor upgrade problem on my own.
I did some little research on what limits processor upgradability on computers and i
found out that BIOS was one of the factors that play a key part.
    So,i went on a mission
to see if i could upgrade my BIOS and whether it would solve my problem.
I found this link to be very informative:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=66624
I then downloaded the latest BIOS version for my laptop from this link:
    http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp
The following link gave me proof that the BIOS update would not bring any problems to my
machine and that there is already someone who had done it and not encountered any problems.
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=62459
Just to make sure that you are on the safe side, before carrying out the procedure to update
your BIOS,make sure you have a fully charged battery in addition to the AC plugged in.A power
outtage during this procedure would instantly kill your machine.
The BIOS installation took less than 3 mins.I copied the executable on the desktop and run it
    from there.
On rebooting, the new BIOS was installed. The new BIOS version was 3.40 dated on 05/18/2012 while
the older one was version 2.0 dated on 04/03/2010.
    From Intel's website,the i5-430M was released on Q1 2010 while the i5-560M and i5-580M were
    released on Q3 2010.
It is pretty obvious that by the time BIOS version 2.0 was release, these two newer processors
had not been released and that explains why they were not being recognized when i installed them.
I finally swapped the 430M with the 560M,assembled back the machine and powered it.
Voil!,the machine booted to it's new life.Everything is as was before!
So far i have not seen any problems even to do with overheating or the cooling fan spinning any
faster that before. It is all the same as before. There is considerable performance gain with the
uprade.I am a software developer and my various development enviroments including compilers,
debuggers, database and deployment servers have all been running way way faster than they were!
I believe the 580M can also work but unfortunately i had returned it back to the shop.
There is no reason for buying new machines when we can upgrade the ones we have. What will
happen to the older ones? This means more electronic waste and so does new machines.Let us try
to make better use of the ones we have a in turn,SAVE OUR ONLY PLANET EARTH FROM GLOBAL WARMING!

  • CPU Upgrade for Tecra M10-13Z PTMB0E-01400LGR

Hi, i want to upgrade my Tecra M10 with the max. CPU supported. Actually i have the Core Duo Prozessor T5670 installed. Can anybody give me an info about the capabilities of the M10?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Astra

Generally speaking PauPau is right. What I want to know is follow: why do you want to upgrade CPU?
Tecra M10 is typical business notebook designed for office work. It is very mobile due to docking facility. The RAM can be upgraded up to 8GB so with maximum RAM upgrade you can have very powerful notebook so I dont see any reason for CPU upgrade.
With maximum RAM and well configured operating system you will have very powerful machine.
Please note: CPU upgrade is not supported by Toshiba so such step is always risky. The whole cooling system, BIOS and hardware platform is designed for certain CPU so changing it you will not have balanced hardware platform anymore.
My advice for you is: dont do this.

  • Tecra 8100 CPU upgrade???

    Hi,
what is the maximum CPU to install? And what Socket? Is it microPGA2 Socket and PIII 850 Mhz (100Mhz Busspeed) or what is the fastest CPU to use within the Tecra8100?

    Dear littlco,
probably this forum should be here to help people, but it isn't. I've read many topics here, and there always is a person who says "contact toshiba support". If a person doesn't know the answer, he shouldn't post a reply. And the cost of new CPU in EU is about 20 euro (talking about PIII 800 or similar) so it is much cheaper than buing a new notebook. And remember that following advertisements and buing new, high-end machines not always fits a customer needs. That's about the venting.
And to answer mrxmrx: Toshiba Tecra 8100 uses a microPGA2 socket. I can't tell you for sure what is the highest CPU it can use (somebody found such information yet), but it can depend on a BIOS version your machine has. I think it should run the CPU about 200MHz over the manufacturer's specifications, but the only way to check it out is to go to some nice store with used parts and ask the seller there to make some tests using various CPUs. That is what I did to learn that my SP 4270 can run with PIII 700 (instead the default Celeron 500).
    I wish you luck.

  • Hardware Update/Upgrade questions for Tecra S10-183

    Date of purchase: 05/13/2011
I use above notebook mobile professionals use for CAD programming and also for Office applications.
2GB of RAM (standard), I can increase to 4GB Kingston (a tie) on purchase.
With the 160GB HDD I had an awful lot at the beginning of loss of speed.
So I had let a month later to a 120GB OCZ Vertex switch from second
And ran for almost 9 months without problems.
Now I have not so much free place in my SDD. So I would like to
"Intel SSD 520 Series 240GB 2.5 SATA III"
    Jump leave.
My question would be, I would get this problem?
    1) In theory, SATA3 work perfectly well that 240GB SSD right?
In manual, it is up to 120GB SATA2 SSD in it. However, the handbook of 2009. So the information is very old. And at that time were not yet 240GB free for end users SATA3 SSD hard drives.
    2) Are there any Windows Professional / Ultimate / Business 64 for 7 as this laptop?
Original I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. I wanted my memory that is extended to 8GB. CAD program running on 64 bit operating system much better.
    3) Is the graphics card soldered onto my laptop or can I let it replace it? So it's a plug-in card?
    4) Can I move to a higher processor / CPU? To what size?
    5) the Mobile UMTS and HSDPA / HSPAU / LTE is capable?
    6) I still can not get on the Toshiba support site:

find when entering the serial number or the model number is not my laptop?
About an answer I would be very happy.

  • CPU upgrade on Satellite L30-101

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L30-101. I've upgraded the RAM successfully to 2GB (2x 1GB) but I'm finding it incredibly hard to get information on processor replacements.
The laptop has the latest BIOS on it (3.10-WIN - 19/02/08) but when trying to find information regarding whats in it I'm hitting brick walls. Firstly the site > http://www.toshiba-tro.de/biosinfo/ < doesn't have my laptop on it,
    Product Type: Notebook
    Family: Satellite
    Product Series: Satellite L Series
    Model: ? unknown
    Short Model No: ? unknown
I did hope I could stick an Intel Duo in but with the ATI chipset, I'm pretty sure it wont work but again without knowing whats within BIOS, compatible.. I'm lost. The only processor I can find which may work, same package, FSB, socket is an Intel Core Solo Processor T1350 which kicks out 1.86 GHz, not a massive difference and I'm sure it can't be the only replacement option.
Could someone and staff please help me with getting hold of BIOS info and compatible processors for my laptop. The current Intel Celeron M Processor 410 kicking out 1.46 GHz isn't good enough for Vista (cert on laptop) and basic multi tasking. Its lagging way too much even after a good tune up, ram upgrade, HD upgrade to 7200RPM. I'm in need of a processor upgrade but as mention finding it incredibly hard to obtain information of which would be compatible.
    Sincerely,
    Gourcuff

    Hello
In my opinion your attempt to replace CPU is wrong. Why? Satellite L30 is not designed to offer some fabulous performance and it is designed for everyday usage. Best evidence for this was the price. It was not so expensive.
Can you please tell us why do you want to have new CPU? Do you use some special software?
Back to CPU replacement. As you probably know mobile computers have limited upgrade options and it is related to RAM and HDD upgrade. It is definitely unprovided for CPU upgrade and it is not supported. Specific design, especially cooling system is designed for certain CPU.
Due to all this you will not be able to find any relevant info about CPU replacement.

  • CPU Upgrade on Satellite L30?

Tried searching but didn't get an answer.
Bought a laptop from ebuyer the other week, and so far so good, but good do with a bit more juice.
Currently running a CoreDuo 1.73 processor, wondering if Core2 or something a bit better will suit.
Heard something about a bit of softawre i'd need?
Could some one a) inform me what processors work
    b) what i need to do to go abuot it

    Hi buddy,
believe me, it would be better to buy a another L30 with a better cpu or another toshiba notebook with a better cpu than trying to upgrade your machine.
Some arguments whys not good to do it:
    1. Its too complicated for if youre not at least a technician which is familiar with MOBILE COMPUTER SYSTEMs because a notebook is not the same electronic like a desktop.
    2. How do you know which component fits? You have to find out the RIGHT partnumber of the manufacturer, otherwise you will have the wrong part and every manufacturer has its own hardware design and its own way to put components together. (like cpu, ram, bla...its not like you mean everything common like a desktop computer)
    3. too expensive vs. performance gain = you would not really achieve a huge performance gain. Not the one you expect. I am telling so many users my experiences with trials of upgrading core components. I am a technician but even for me it does not make sense anymore to upgrade a cpu in a notebook. I tried it with 4 (!) machines, and two of them have now defective mainboards. And dont forget what I told you: I am working as a computer technician and I repair almost all brands which arrive our service center.
So, please forget your idea, upgrade your RAM and your harddisk and otherwise buy a new machine if youre unsatisfied with the actual performance of your rig.

  • Is CPU upgrade on Satellite 2410-303 possible?

My Satellite 2410-303 has Pentium 4 Mobile 1.7GHZ processor. I want to upgrade its processor to Pentium 4 Mobile 2.8GHZ. I think that it is possible because its upper models have faster processor and that is unique difference between them.
Please, help me for this question and tell me is it possible?

    Hello

  • Satellite M40x will not boot up after CPU upgrade test

I have an M40x Laptop. I took the CPU out of it to replace it with another to test the computer booted up fine so I shut down and took it out and put it's original CPU back in, and it would not boot. Now it will not boot up at all with either of the CPU's all. When I turn on the power all I get is a white screen for a few seconds and the laptop shuts itself back down. Both the CPU's are good because I have since tested them in other computers to make sure that was not the problem.
Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this??

    Im not surprised.
As far as I know Toshiba does not support any CPU upgrades and it's not advisable to do something like that.
Its a fact that the CPU replacement on the notebooks is not easy and mostly not recommended.
The processors used in portables are connected to the system board using a process called TCP (Tape Carrier Package). This is a permanent connection method and is used in the interests of miniaturization and heat dissipation.
Did you assign the new heat paste? Its necessary and important if you want to connect the CPU again.
So possibly this is a reason for the no booting.
I think more details you will get from the service guys in your country

  • CPU upgrade of my Satellite Pro L300-152

    hello
    my laptop is a :
    Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-152
    Model no. PSLB1E-01R015EN
    Celeron 560 2.13GHz
Can someone tell me which CPU I can safely upgrade this with, I use it in a fairly cool environment and would like just a few more 100mhz from it.
    Thank you for your support

Before we start discussion about CPU upgrade check please this Toshiba document - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm
My personal opinion is that CPU upgrade will not help much and you will not realize some big difference in notebook performance. In my opinion you need more RAM or better and faster SSD. This brings better and more performance than some CPU with 100mhz more than old one.

  • How to upgrade Sound on Tecra S11?

The Sound sounds aweful!!! which speakers could I buy myself and replace in my Toshiba Tecra S11 ?

To be honest Im really surprised with your question. Fact is that Tecra notebooks are designed for business purposes and designed for usage in offices, meeting rooms and by customer visiting so the sound is not so important in the whole package. This is not multimedia notebook so you will probably not find any Tecra with high quality speakers inside.
Ok I can understand you and maybe it is not bad idea to have perfec sound on this notebook model but I think this is the wrong place for your question. What you need is professional advice.
I recommend you to contact nearest authorized service provider and ask for help. They have maintenance manuals and know which speakers are inside and which speakers can be built in as replacement. Maybe some high quality speakers from harman/kardon can be used for upgrade but which one is not easy to say.
If you will do upgrade successfully please let us know and share every useful info with us.

  • AMD Athlon 64 3800+ cpu upgrade to AMD Athlon 64 X2

    Hello everyone,
First of all, I have been to cpu-upgrade.com and typed in my current (CPU)--> AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.40GHz (motherboard)--> ASUS A8M2N-LA (Naos) GL6.
According to the website, my AM2 Socket (940pin) is capable of upgrading to a Dual Core, Anyone know if that site is accurate or not? Any help would be nice. I need to get away from this single core.
    1) Some CPU models require a BIOS upgrade, which a BIOS upgrade for this board is not available.
    2) A lot of X2 Dual Cores work either using a 4400+, 4600+, and so on....
I do have a 550watt PSU installed, also I am using MSI Nvidia GeForce GT620 PCI-express 16x graphics, not using onboard.
I have read that some BIOS' upgrades terminate the onboard video, is that true? Basically, whatever I already have installed is current and up to date with all video/sound drivers, etc... If anybody very knowledgable knows for sure if an AMD Athlon 64 X2 will work in my system that would be nice. My specs below......
OS: Windows Vista Home Basic (32bit)
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.40GHz
    RAM: 2GB (GDDR2)
PSU: 550watt (all 20+4 for main cable to motherboard connected using all 24 pins + 4pin connector for CPU? I believe.
Sound: Realtek HD ALC888 High Definition Audio
Video: MSI Nvidia GeForce GT620 (GDDR3 with 2GB Video Memory).
Only thing I am bottle necking on is the CPU, and I would love to upgrade to Dual Core, once again, thank you for the help.

  • Toshiba tecra a11-17c refusing to boot from LAN

    Hello
I am working on a Toshiba tecra a11-17c. We currently have about 18 of the same laptop and the person who originally built the computers has left the office we are currently working at.
The issue I am have is that I  want to boot the computer from lan and do a windows 7 installation on the laptop but I keep getting the error "Media test failure, check cable"
I know the cable is working because I was able to build a Toshiba satellite pro l20 perfectly fine
The other Toshiba tecra a11-17c laptops have the same issue when trying to rebuild them too
I am fully able to log into a Toshiba tecra a11-17c and connect to the internet via the same network cable and port when in windows.
I have also tried to swap the hard drive with a different tecra a11-17c but it just kept getting a blue screen as soon as the windows flag appeared.
I then tried a format of the hard drive and a reset to default of the bios settings as suggested in a different forum.
I then tried to clone a fully working hard drive from a different fully working tecra a11-17c and it just dose the blue screen as stated above.
I then used an old windows XP recovery disk for the tecra a11-17c it did the build fine no issues then when it came to build to windows but as stated above it just dose a blue screen the same as windows 7.
Now I have no idea what to do but to believe it is something Toshiba has done with the tecra a11-17c range because its the same issue for all 18 of the tecra a11-17c laptops I have here.
Any way I am at a loss and have no idea what to do it seems to be something as simple as the network card need to be turned on during the boot phase but I can not find anything in the bios.

I'm sorry but I have no experience doing what your attempting to do.  However, for your information, this site is for U.S. models only and I would suggest you also post in the appropriate regional Toshiba Support forum to get better suggestions.  Good luck

  • CPU upgrades

I'd like to upgrade a tray-loading iMac with the CPU from one of the faster slot-loading ones - 350, 400, whichever.
I'd also like to swap a 450 or 500 MHz CPU from a DV SE that had firewire into the earlier, ordinary slot-loading version, which didn't.
Does anyone know if there's any reason there would be a problem doing either of these changes?
For that matter, if the DV motherboard's okay, any reason I couldn't use the whole thing in the slot-loader? I think there's a video problem, but if that's just a monitor thing and not on the board, it shouldn't be an issue.
    Thanks

you are correct, the slot loaders do not have a separate CPU card, its soldered directly to the logic board.
There are CPU upgrades available for tray loaders (don't know if any are actually still produced anymore, but they do exist), but the cost usually just isn't worth it. You could get a used slot loader for the same amount,a nd a used eMac or mac mini for a little bit more.
