CPU usage and Choppy Video problems on iTunes 8.0.0.35
Hello peoples,
I am having major issues with iTunes 8, I have choppy video playback and CPU usage problems. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate SP1
While wtching a TV show (specifically House Season 1 not HD) I get choppy video and my iTunes CPU usage shows 55-90% with an Intel Centrino Duo 2.16GHz processor this is ridiculous
my computer is only 2 years old, and when running iTunes 7 I had none of these problems
any help on how to fix this is much appreciated

Hello Laura&Graeme, Welcome to Discussions.
First off great job with what you have done. I have some suggestions below. One which you have done but want to ensure you know the full list of apple programs that may actually be in your system. So you can remove them all. Below is the first link to assist you as well as a text list of those Apps.

Yes. You can put all of your personal default settings in the file ~/.mplayer/config. If it doesn't already exist, just create it. On my VDPAU enabled system it looks like this:
[default]
vo=vdpau,xv,
deint=4
hqscaling=9
vc=ffh264vdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau,ffwmv3vdpau,ffvc1vdpau,
channels=2
As far as subtitles go, I never use them so I have no idea. -
How to monitor CPU usage and performance on a Hyper-V server with several VM's
I have a server that is running Windows 2008 64 bit Hyper-V, with 8 gigs of RAM and Intel Xeon X3440 @ 2.53 Ghz, which gives me 8 logical cores in the performance monitor on the host system.
I have set up three Virtual Machines, all running Windows 2008 32 bit.
Build server, running Team City
Staging server
SQL Server, running SQL Server 2005
I have some troubles with the setup in that the host monitor remains responsive at all times, even though the VM's are seemingly working at 100% cpu and are very sluggish and unresponsive. (I have asked a separate question about that.)
So the question here is: What is the best way to monitor how the physical CPU's are actually utilized? The reason I am asking is that I am being told that i cannot reliably use the task manager to monitor CPU usage in a VM.First, you have to remember that in Hyper-V that the "host" is called a parent partition and it really just like a virtualized guest with special permissions and roles. Just like any other child/guest, when you open up Task Manager, you can not see the CPU
usage of the other children on the server.
Ben Armstrong has a good explanation of this here:http://blogs.msdn.com/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2008/02/28/hyper-v-virtual-machine-cpu-usage-and-task-manager.aspx
To summarize his post, you need to check three things to get an accurate picture of CPU utilization:
View the CPU usage on each guest - this is available through Hyper-V Manager or Performance Monitor.
CPU usage due to context switching - this is the perfmon counter called % Hypervisor Run Timeunder Hyper-V Hypervisor Virtual Processor
Child partition worker process - vmwp.exe running on the parent partition (1 per child). This handles Hyper-V operations like saving
state. -
High CPU Usage and Temperature
I've recently purchased a MacBook with the latest updates, including the firmware for the random shutdowns but lately when I boot the MacBook up, the fans kick on and it reads 83 degrees Celsius with about 65% CPU Usage and I don't have anything running except what came on the MacBook in itself, any suggestions?? Apple told me to take it in to have it looked at but I was wondering if there is anything I can fix perhaps?? Thank you
Sometimes when I connect an external drive which I have made drastic file changes to, there are two process that eat up a lot of cpu power and get the macbook really hot for awhile, those two processed are related to the way spotlight tries to re-index the external drive or the internal hd itself if I had made drastic changes to it too.
Could it be that?
You can see them show up in Activity Monitor, they are mdimport and another one starting with md(something) too.
Hope that helps (if that's the issue)
Best,

IcedTea High CPU usage and multiple jobs created
High CPU usage and multiple jobs created while streaming data via a java applet from a secure/certified website. CPU usage is normal for a few minutes then suddenly jobs multiply and CPU usage climbs on one of the jobs.
Jobs with the following command begin to multiply in my job queue with one job showing CPU usage at 368% and staying resident in memory (yeah, a long one):
/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk/jre/bin/java -Xbootclasspath/a:/usr/share/icedtea-web/netx.jar:/usr/share/icedtea-web/plugin.jar:/usr/share/java/js.jar: -classpath /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk/jre/lib/rt.jar sun.applet.PluginMain /run/user/1000/icedteaplugin-tbattist-SZ3xKO/7160-icedteanp-plugin-to-appletviewer /run/user/1000/icedteaplugin-tbattist-SZ3xKO/7160-icedteanp-appletviewer-to-plugin /run/user/1000/icedteaplugin-tbattist-SZ3xKO/7160-icedteanp-plugin-debug-to-appletviewer
I have the following java packages installed on my system:
local/icedtea-web-java7 1.5-1
local/jdk7-openjdk 7.u51_2.4.6-1
local/jre7-openjdk 7.u51_2.4.6-1
local/jre7-openjdk-headless 7.u51_2.4.6-1
I also get the following message in my system log when starting to stream:
Apr 11 12:26:18 saturn logger[7872]: IcedTea-Web java error manual log:
Apr 11 12:26:18 saturn logger[7873]: Application title was not found in manifest. Check with application vendor
Apr 11 12:26:37 saturn logger[7883]: IcedTea-Web java error - for more info see itweb-settings debug options or console. See http://icedtea.classpath.org/wiki/IcedTea-Web#Filing_bugs for help.
Anybody having this issue or clue on what to do? I am wondering if recent changes to openssl (heartbleed) might have java change ramifications? Should I submit bug to Icedtea?
FYI - My system:
Processor : 4x AMD A8-3870 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
Memory : 7646MB (2518MB used)
Operating System : Arch Linux 3.14.0-4
OpenGL Renderer : Gallium 0.4 on AMD SUMO
X11 Vendor : The X.Org Foundation...further research and learning.
Here is a good tutorial on Java. Evidently, what I called "jobs" is referred to as processes and threads in this tutorial. The tutorial states that multithreaded execution is an essential feature of the Java platform which explains the avalanche of threads I observe. However, I am still stumped at what causes the avalanche of threads and excessive CPU consumption for such a mediocre task. Also the system log says that IcedTea has an error stating "Application title was not found in manifest. Check with application vendor". I interpret this to mean that IcedTea does not recognized some application. What application? .....the applet? -
How can i reduce CPU usage while playing video?
Hi,
I have recently finished and then published a project to my desktop which is a video jukebox application. The application plays music videos in a large popup window upon a button click. The problem i have is that when the video is not playing the CPU usage on my windows machine runs at about 15% on average, however once the video is playing in the popup the CPU usage jumps to almost 90-100%.
I have seen some of the developements introduced in Flash 10.2 in regard to Stage Video and was wondering if this could maybe fix my problem. At present my application is running on AIR 1.5 with Flash Player 9. If I simply install the latest versions of AIR and Flash Player and try running my published project again will this be enough to improve the video performance? Or do I need to change the settings of my project within Flex Builder so that it uses the latest version Flash?
Any advise would be great.
Thanks
AdamStageVideo is still not available for AIR and until then it appears nothing can be done about this problem.

YEARS-old issue with slow play, 100% cpu usage, and conspiracy theories
I've had the same issue for YEARS now, with flash videos (like on youtube) and games starting out okay, but after a little while, they just start to stutter and slow way down, while the CPU usage goes up to ridiculous levels. The browser doesn't matter, firefox or chrome, online content or run off the local hard drive. I have the latest flash player, and this has been a problem ever since at least version 9. I'm using XP. I think version 8 never had this issue, but unfortunately all recent games and youtube videos won't run with version 8. Adobe did something with recent versions of flash player that causes this issue now. Google search and you'll see countless threads from people with all kinds of computers with all kinds of specs having the exact same issue.
There has never been an entry in the Adobe knowledgebase about it, despite the persistence of this problem.
It's like it's a coverup or something. The more I think about it, the more it reminds me about when the Netscape browser was caught secretly uploading information to their servers and resulting in browser slowdowns. Is flash player doing the same thing? Adobe has already been caught out with spyware-like activities with Photoshop connecting to Omniture through the flash-enabled splash screens that were purposely disguised to look like they were innocently connecting to a user's local system, but in fact connecting to stat and online marketing sites. Is this why this years-old problem has never been addressed in any official way? Now I'm just rambling. I want a fix. It's been years now that I haven't been able to enjoy more than a few minutes worth of flash content.
At this point, even if Adobe shrugged their shoulders and said "yeah, we know about the problem but we have no idea how to fix it" would be better than nothing at all.I've had the same issue for YEARS now, with flash videos (like on youtube) and games starting out okay, but after a little while, they just start to stutter and slow way down, while the CPU usage goes up to ridiculous levels. High CPU Usage when playing videos
I have exactly the same problem. I search all around and a lot, i mean a LOT of people is having the same problem, what is going on with Adobe Flash Player? Every video, specially in Youtube, i just can't watch 720p videos, because the CPU reach the 100%, all is good in my PC, it's just the Adobe Flash Player that have some kind of problem, i don't know what to do or where to search anymore for a solution. This is getting frustrating.
it's high memory usage and for some reason i got put in this thread and my original one never got update i am using hardware acceleration.....www.twitch.tv go watch any of the livestreams there

I may have a solution for choppy video playback for iTunes Windows users
My setup:
- Intel NUC (i5)
- 8gb memory
- Intel 5000 Graphics with 1GB memory (share of system memeory)
- iTunes 12
- iTunes library on NAS via GigaLan
Had problems with very choppy and freezing HD video playback in iTunes and tried everything... Every other player works fine.
1. downgrade audio playback
2. played with Quicktime settings
However, I think I might have a workaround. You need to do the following,
1. Install Quicktime 7
2. Install iTunes
3. Download ffdshow (Sep 2014 version) and install the codecs: pretty much leaving all do default
4. Set audio quality in Sound and Quicktime options in control panel, and iTunes to 16bit 48k
5. In advanced options of Quicktime in control panel, deselect "Direct 3D" & "Enable directdraw on seondary display", ONLY tick "enable directdraw accerleration"
Well, at least this works for me for now.
HOWEVER!!!
@Apple! You need to address this issue once for all, I can't believe there is no solution. As a paying customer who buy quite a few of your movies in iTunes, I expect to have a harssell free experience. Consumers should NOT have to go through all these troubles trying to fix a product you have released and making billions out of.
Reason why I switched from Android to Apple for my phones and tablets is becasue of the seamless user experience, regretfully I have to admit, this advantage is quickly going away. The amount of glitches in your recent ios updates and itunes are simply unacceptable.Downloading videos on 7.0.2 hasn't worked as well as everyone had hoped. I still can't get mine to work, but i do know a few people who haven't had trouble with the newer itunes.

Hi,
I have a Mid-2007 Macbook white. I have upgraded its memory to 4GB. Snow Leopard was working great, and I said to myself maybe it's time to upgrade to Lion.
After the upgrade all was well. However, a big problem occurs when I plug in to the Mini-DVI display port with the HDMI adapter, to connect to my Sony LCD HDTV. The whole graphics and video slow down, everything is choppy. Quicktime and VLC video playback is strobe and choppy looks like very low Frame Rate. Cannot watch anything, not HD nor low resolutions. The entire computer is slow when the cable is connected.
Things I tried:
*VGA adapter seems to work fine - it's the digital display output that probably causes that.
*Running it through a new user.
This never happened on Snow Leopard. i'm considering to go back. However, I am wondering if there is a way to fix this minor problem.Update:
We solved the problem. Weird solution but now it seems to work. I plugged a VGA adpater and played with the screen rsolutions to try and watch a movie well on my LCD screen. I changed the screen resolutions but I couldn't revert back to the default settings. Pressing "Detect Displays" didn't do anything.
Here is the interesting part: When I placed back the DVI-HDMI adapter, suddenly everything worked fine!!! There was no choppy videos, no low fps, works prefect.
Something weird is going on here, but I'm happy I managed to get the DVI to HDMI to work because I was about to removie Lion and bring back Snow Leopard. -

- procesor: amd c-60 apu whit radeon hd graphics 1,00 ghz

tksRundll32.exe Using High CPU on Windows 8.1
I use a Lenovo T440s laptop for my service calls and when I need to do work remotely. My laptop runs Windows 8.1 Professional. I love this laptop and it has proved to be tough as well as extremely fast. I noticed a couple weeks ago that my battery was going dead after about an hour of usage. I also noticed that my cooling fan in the laptop was running louder than normal. I decided to open Task Manger on my laptop to see what the issue was. I soon noticed that a process called rundll32.exe was using around 25 percent of my CPU. I killed the process and everything returned to normal.
A few days later, my battery was going dead very rapidly. My cooling fan was on almost constantly and was blowing warm air. I opened Task Manger and sure enough, rundll32.exe was using 25% of my CPU again. I killed the process and everything was fine. It wasn’t long and my laptop was doing the exact same thing as I described before. I decided it was time to get to the bottom of this issue. Here is how I troubleshot what program was using the rundll32.exe and in the process was killing my battery.
Step One: I downloaded Process Explorer. This is an excellent tool. It is similar to Task Manager but goes into way more depth on the processes and dlls that are running. I extracted the download and then ran Process Explorer as an administrator.
Step Two: One of the first things I noticed was rundll32.exe was using 23 percent of my CPU again.
I right-clicked on the rundll32.exe process and selected properties. I clicked on the Image tab and at once saw the culprit. A utility to monitor and gauge my battery usage, called PwrMgrBkGndMonitor, was draining my battery instead of saving it.
Step Three: After a little digging around in my installed programs I located a program called Lenovo Settings Dependency Package. PwrMgrBkGndMonitor was installed in the Lenovo Settings Dependency Package.
I didn’t use this program and decided I didn’t need it. I uninstalled the program and restarted my laptop. I haven’t had a problem with the rundll32.exe using up my CPU since I uninstalled Lenovo Settings Dependency Package.
If you are experiencing the same symptoms has stated above and you are running a Lenovo laptop with Windows 8.1, this may be your issue. However, before you uninstall the program I would recommend using Process Explorer. Process Explorer will help you determine the exact program that is giving you issues before blindly uninstalling and killing services. I hope my troubleshooting steps can help you find program is making rundll32.exe use high CPU usage. Let me know in the comments if this helped you!

Hi
Hopefully someone can help me on this issue as I have seen it a few times with no responses. Since upgrading to iTunes 9 a number of my videos and TV Shows are now showing double there actual length. The file plays once perfectly fine and then repeats without any sound both on my iTunes and on my iPod Touch.
Thanks in advance
PeterSame problem here: any video within my iTunes library WILL NOT play in its player window. I have tried every feasible option, including clicking the preview in the lower left and various functions in the menu bar to no avail. Nothing works. I understand that sometimes quirks will slip by on major software releases, but this appears to be a major oversight.
What I have to do instead is right+click a video, select "show in Finder" and open it within Quicktime to play. And of course, go back to iTunes and mark my podcast as "watched" when I'm finished. How cheesey is that? ITunes 9 is problematic enough that I have to use other software to cover for its faults.
Funny that they fixed the zoom button issue on the .0.1 release, but completely disregarded a fix for the video player issue. -
CPU Usage % While Editing Video
We get quite a few questions on why CPU usage is below 100% in some operations. This applies to both PrE and PrPro. Here is a THREAD (on PrPro, so there are some Pro-specific comments involved in the thread), and Harm Millaard has distilled the possibilities nicely in Reply #1.
Note: there is a link to the PrPro CS5 Benchmark. The site, and benchmark files and tests are not available for PrE, but when comparing hardware, the spreadsheet of the performance data from users' configurations, can tell one a lot, even if they are running PrE, and cannot actually participate in the benchmarking - the data in that spreadsheet is still VERY useful, when looking at various computer configurations.
Good luck, and hope that this helps others,
Hunt1) Why video rendering is taking about 3h to render 2.2Gb wma file to make it HD 720p 29.97 with H.264 codec? CPU is loaded only 16-20%, have alot of RAM. Ou and tried both OpenCL and system only renderer no change in time needed or CPU load.
Because of the source material and the hardware. Wrong CPU, video card an not enough memory.
2) Does Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL) means GPU usage mostly and system only - CPU usage?
Exporting is CPU based, the Radeon does not help at all. Tweakers Page - Exporting Style
3) Why is so low CPU usage I thought that doing something big like video editing CPU should be fully loaded..., but here I see that it as I said is using only 16-20% and 2-3 cores aren't even in use.
Again because of the source material / codec and the hardware. Typical of ill-threaded codecs and the CPU.
4) Is it ok for a recorded game video to be big like 2-5Gb after rendering in HD format, because I think if films 44 min HD quality are 350-400MB than game videos should be about the same.
44 min. of HD material can never be 350-400 MB of decent quality. 44 min of SD material (DVD) is already over 3 GB for decent quality. For HD, even on YouTube, count on at least 4-5 GB for 44 minutes or more.
5) Maybe there is a better video capture app than Fraps, Overwolf, raptr GVR (well looked fine but I couldn't edit the video, Adobe element showed black screen and played audio) so that I could easelly edit it with adobe apps.
You can't capture with any of the software you mention, Capture is only possible with tape cased cameras over firewire.
Your AMD 8-core CPU is not suited for video editing, it is even slower than a 4-core Intel, because of the lacking SSE support. See Tweakers Page - What kind of PC to use? Your Radeon is pretty slow for editing, Tweakers Page - What video card to use? and the amount of memory is limited. -
Possible video problems in iTunes 8.1 [no grid or cover flow views]
I had posted this problem under iTunes, but mentors there suggested instead I connect it to a video problem
*"...my video drivers or other related problems I've had over the last two months with the iPhoto...*
*Ah, didn't know about that. Try re-posting it as a video problem in one of the other forums. It begins to look less like an iTunes problem."*
So, the problem is that I cannot get any other view in iTunes other than LIST. The grid view is completely non functional and is grayed out. The cover flow only shows as a black screen without any logo (such as the familiar music symbol). I never had this problem in iTunes until I upgraded to 8.1.
It is curious that when I select tunes from my **own playlists*, the grid view appears both in the "view choices" and its respective icon is NOT grayed out. That does not happen when I select genious playlist: then the icon is grayed out and there is a grayed out "View choice" in the pull down menu. The same problem exists in my own playlists whenever I select cover flow, however. It is always black without any images or logos displayed. It's an active choice in the pull down menu, and you can click on its icon...but nothing appears.

HI Bronco,
Go here and make sure your Mac meets the minimum requirements for iTunes 8.1
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ <--- left side of the page</div>
*Macintosh Hardware*
*Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, G4, or G3 processor*
*Screen resolution of 1024x768 or greater*
*Playing videos purchased on the iTunes Store requires a Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5 or _1.0GHz PowerPC G4 or faster processor_*
*Playing HD-quality videos purchased on the iTunes Store requires a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor*
*512MB of RAM; 1GB is required to play HD-quality videos*
*Playing videos also requires at least 16MB of video RAM*
*A broadband Internet connection is required to use the iTunes Store*
*Macintosh Software*
*Mac OS X version 10.4.10 or later*
*QuickTime 7.5.5 or later*
*200MB of available disk space*
As best I can tell, my iMac meets all criteria. However, it is not clear to me that it meets the criteria for playing videos (processor speed). I can't tell what this processor speed is; where do I discover that? Under "About this Mac," it says I have *_512 MB SDRAM_*; is that the answer that denies this functionality?
*"The grid view is completely non functional and is grayed out. The cover flow only shows as a black screen without any logo (such as the familiar music symbol)."* Your video card may not support cover flow.
Carolyn
Perhaps, but this is not obvious to me. As I posted earlier, iTunes demonstrated cover flow capability in its prior version. Did it change once 8.1 and now 8.1.1 came out?
