  • High CPU Usage with one client

I work as a desktop support engineer. I've got a call that has been back and forth between departments that I believe to be an SCCM problem but I'm not involved in the back end of that, just desktop onsite type stuff, hardware, rebuilds etc...
So I'm wondering if I can get some ammo to take to the SCCM team and hopefully get the problem resolved for the affected user.
What happens is, one particular user, every time he logs onto a machine, from that moment on (all he needs to do is log on once, then log straight off) almost every night at a random time the CPU will starts behaving erratic around the 25% mark and will
not stop until the machine is rebooted. After the reboot, all is well, until the next night. The RAM in this time will also behave odd. It goes up and down every 10-20 seconds. It starts at a particular figure, goes up a little to another figure, then back
down to the previous, then back up again and so on. Obviously I'd expect the machine to mostly be sat idle, cpu usage around 0-5%, ram not moving, and this is the case with all other machines across our estate. The user likes to leave his machine on and logged
in hence why he sees it often.
Even if the machine is rebuilt, it will continue doing it if he has logged on previously, if we change the hostname in this rebuild, it doesn't, hence why I'm certain this is something to do with SCCM. Also, a level 3 guy has had a lot to do with this case
too, he says that when the cpu is going crazy, its always to do with svchost.exe and the WMI, again, pointing to SCCM I think.
Now, we don't have roaming profiles, software and patches are all installed by SCCM, I think we use 2012, but it may be 2007, I can find out if it will help.
From what I've read, it looks like it could be corrupt superseeded update packages. But the question is then, if so, why does it only affect one user? Can it affect his personal id SCCM account or something? sorry, I don't know too much about how SCCM works,
I have a rough idea, but its just that...Rough!
Any help would be most appreciated as this call has been outstanding for months and it keeps on popping back into my queue saying things like, try rebuilding the client, well...yeah...read the history geniuses, we've done that many times, ruled hardware
100% out and still it ends up back with us. Thankfully the bloke is really understanding and seems quite a problem solver himself, he's really intrigued to know whats happening now and has learnt to work around it.
Many Thanks for any and all help given, I can provide logs and any diagnostic info that will help.

I'm not seeing how this is a CM12 problem at all. Yes it might be a WMI problem but that doesn't mean that it has anything to do with CM12.
Software Update are not deployed to a user they are deploied to a PC.
    Start with the basic.
    Have you check WMI health?
What OS are you talking about?
Have you applied all the WMI Software Updates to the PC?
Are you sure that he doesn't have roaming profile?
What happens when he logon to your healthy PC? Does the problem start? If so what then this is clearly NOT a CM12 problem but instead, a profile or application target to him that is the problem.
What GPO are target to him?

  • Shockwave Flash 11.6.602.168 100% CPU usage

    Hi,
Our computer has 100% CPU usage every time we get in websites that utilize Flash, or watch youtube.
    Browser: FF 19.0
    Flash 11.6.602.168
Computer: HP Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz, 3G memory, up-to-date BIOS and other drivers.
    Graphic card: EVGA GeFprce 6200
    Windows 7 32 bits
This window is freshly installed, has AVG on. We do not have many software's installed, except MS Office. All fans and CPU are clean. The computer runs fairly fast: we tried opening multiple FF tabs simultaneously, plus Excel, Word, Solitaire etc. without any problems. However, whenever we get into websites with Flash, the CPU uasage goes to 100% and stays there. Memory usage has always been stable, around 30%. We have tried the following steps, but it hasn't gotten better:
    - Turned off all applications, opened only one tab with that website.
    - Updated all drivers and applications: FF, Flash, Graphic card etc.
    - Turned ON and OFF hardware acceleration for both Flash and FF, also tried to turn one On, the other OFF, and vise versa.
    - Disabled all add-on's, extensions and Plug-in's, except Flash.
    - Uninstalled and reinstall FF and Flash; restarted several times.
    - Temporarily turned OFF protected mode.
    - Uninstalled FF, Flash, then installed IE 9, then Flash for IE: didn't work.
    - Uninstalled IE 9, Flash, then installed IE10 then reinstalled Flash for IE: also didn't work.
    - We do not keep browsing history.
Examples of websites that we have had problems with: pbskids.org, barbie.com, and other school websites for kids to do homework or watch youtube.
While in many websites such as CNN.com, yahoo.com, when we opened it, the CPU usage did spike, but came back to 1-5% within 5 seconds.
This computer is for our kids. Do we really need to buy an i5 or i7 computer so the kids can play and do homework? Or is there any other way that we can do?
    Thank you

Moving to the Using Flash Player forum, as this isn't specific to the Beta.
In the Youtube video, if you right-click and choose Show Video Info, it will show you whether you're using Hardware Acceleration for both Video Rendering and Video Decoding.
If you're seeing Software Rendering and/or Software Decoding and you're watching a high-def video, it's going to use a ton of CPU.
Do you see similar behavior in other browsers?  (Chrome, IE)  The Flash Player distributions are actually quite different for each browser.  It would be an interesting data point.

  • 100% CPU Usage caused by HMI

    Hi everybody:
I'm working with LabVIEW DSC 8.2.1 in a system that monitors many variables of a plant, such a typical SCADA system. For this reason, the use of the graphic tools is highly used on the development of this system. Everything works fine, but I have only one problem.... the usage of the CPU.
When I am working on the development system I (not the executable) I start the application and after the variables are initialized and every process has started and are running , the CPU usage is raised around 90 - 100%. After a few days investigating the reason of this, I realized thay when I change the view on the screen to another view, for example the block diagram of the application, while the application is still running, the CPU usage goes around 15 - 25%. I've tried these many times changing the view from Front panel to Block Diagram and viceversa and the result is always the same: Front Panel= around 100%; Block diagram or another view (other applications MMIs, or Block Diagrams, etc.)= around 20%.
Another thing that I realized is that the other view (different to front panel) has to fill the entire screen to work the way I'm telling before.
When I build and run the executable, the usage of the CPU is the same... (around 100%), but I can't see any other application, because the application built is the shell of the OS, so no other views are available.
I don't know if there's some other consideration to take into account about the HMI when creating an application, and I'll appreciate very much your help.
    Thanks in advance!

100 Percent CPU Usage when you run programs after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2
    CPU Usage 100% Symptoms
When you run some programs, the CPU Usage meter in Task Manager may indicate CPU Usage 100%. When CPU utilization reaches 100 percent, programs will run very slowly or stop responding (hang) and your computer is freezing or crashing.
Noteress CTRL+ALT+DEL to view CPU utilization, click Task Manager, and then click the Performance tab.
These symptoms occur after you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).
    CPU Usage 100% Cause
These problem occurs because of the user interface code that is included in Windows XP SP2. The high CPU utilization is caused by the additional overhead that occurs when the IsWindow function is called by the user interface code.

  • [help] high cpu usage with flash (Hello adobe developer)

Running youtube or facebook games, here's what I found. CPU usage rises to 90-100% or 90-100 % of a core.
Tested in XP32/Win7 64. Clean setups. Tested with Flash 9, 10, 10.1 rc's. Used uninstallers, reinstalled and so on. Googled on this, read many threads, such as granting permission on several files. Tested with IE, Firefox, Chrome. SAME stuff. Tested on an e8400 with P35 chipset, i3 530 with P55 chipset, e7400 with nvidia ion chipset, tested with 7[3|6]00gt's, gts 250.. So yes, I've tried a lot of things. And many different drivers too. I am now only pointing fingers at flash.
PC gets sluggish, laptops run out of battery fast. I can usually fix a lot of technicals issues on my own, but I'm TOTALLY stuck here. I should also add that, cpu usage rises only when there is motion. I can watch an .avi movie or play some 3D game, and they won't suck the cpu totally. I can remember in the past, flash won't do this. Flash won't drag the system down. Something is SERIOUSLY wrong.
Can an Adobe dev comment please?

I find it strangely odd that you've never seen this phenomenon, but at least you must have heard of it. Google flash high cpu usage. Facebook games flash lag. Or something alike. Mind moving my thread there? So there won't be a dupe thread.
I posted a similar thread in mozilla forums to see what they have to see, since i notice lag is more apparent in firefox than in ie, although both hog up cpu.
As you can see, I'm not alone.
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1913819
My installation _of_ what? Let's see, I tried to replicate this in the most bare environment. With nothing else installed, and  default Windows 7 drivers, I installed flash from the web, plugin only first, then activex, did the testing, same stuff. Installed OLD 183 drivers, tested with 197 drivers, then 256 beta drivers. Same deal.

  • High CPU Usage on 3750

    Hi,
I have this 3750 old switch running c3750-ipbase-mz.122-35.SE5.bin (I know it is old...) and it is used for connecting remote offices via 10Mbps circuits. It has been running fine for the last 12-month. But recently, I found the CPU usage is a little bit high, like in screenshot.
I know the average CPU usage is only about 10-20% but it bothers me that it constant has MAX CPU usage around 90+%...I also did show processes cpu sorted and the only thing having 3+% CPU usage is spanning tree...but that won't be enough to cause the CPU peaks... There is no special feature configure on the switch, just VLAN taggings.
Any suggestions on what to check?

Check SDM template if you are overloading the switch.
    show sdm prefer
The current template is "desktop routing" template.
The selected template optimizes the resources in
the switch to support this level of features for
8 routed interfaces and 1024 VLANs.
number of unicast mac addresses:                  3K
number of IPv4 IGMP groups + multicast routes:    1K
number of IPv4 unicast routes:                    11K
        number of directly-connected IPv4 hosts:        3K
number of indirect IPv4 routes:                 8K
number of IPv4 policy based routing aces:         0.5K
number of IPv4/MAC qos aces:                      0.5K
number of IPv4/MAC security aces:                 1K
If the numbers are good then you might want to check the entire LAN and causing temporary STP loops that would kick your CPU utilisation once in a while. Since you have mentioned that you are using this switch for WAN circuits, you may also check the show platform output.
show platform ip unicast failed route
Total of 0 covering fib entries
You should see zero or else that wouldn't be good.

  • NI DAQmx 8.3 and CPU usage

I have similar problem as described on page http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=250&message.id=23831
but have solution and some reflections.
    first of all, about system
system use 2x PCI-6143 and take data from 16 channels with maximum rate (250 kS/s)
    program
was created about year ago (with LV 7.1.1, DAQmx 7.4) and on PC with
PIV (3.2 GHz) processor and 1 Gb of RAM work properly (CPU usage less
    30%).
Now I've recompile program with LV8.2 and update drivers to DAQmx 8.3. now program can't work properly because CPU usage 100%
I create test VI for research this problem.
First version (daq_test1) - simple code - configure daqtask and get data.
    I found:
    if
sample rate less or equal 90 kS/s (on PCI-6143) CPU usage less 5%, but
when rate more 95 kS/s CPU usage jump to 60% (for one or more channels
    on one or two devises).
Then I create simulated devise PCI-6143 in MAX and the same vi (daq_test1) require not more than 5-10% of CPU.
    also
I have examine devise 16E-4 and find the same problem: if samle rate
more than "boundary" rate, CPU usage is too much (50-70%).
Then I add configure parameters (daq_test2) - add manualy DMA "on". There are no effects (CPU usage jump to 60% on "fast" rates)
Then I  "play" with WaitMode (daq_test3). There are no effects (even if WaitMode=Sleep and SleepTime>1s CPU usage about 60%)
    Finally
I create vi (daq_test4), where "manually" check
AvailableSamplesPerChannel and call DAQmx Read only when bufer has more
    samples, that I need.
So I'd wound solution, but think driver
MUST check available samples carefully (also, why DAQmx 7.4 can fast
scan, but  DAQmx 8.3 can't do it at least the same way as previous version).

    daq_test.zip ‏78 KB

    Artem,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments support.  This is expected behavior. When the wait mode is set to Sleep, DAQmx will only sleep if and only if there is no data available to process. So, for example,  at 200 kS/s, data is filling up the buffer fairly quickly and should always be available to read, which means that the process will not sleep at all. When data is always available, the CPU is going to handle it as quickly as possible and thus the CPU will appear to be running at near 100%.
Specifying a wait mode of Sleep is really only beneficial when the acquisition is running slowly enough that a lot of time is spent in DAQmx Read waiting for the data to arrive. In the past, the CPu was maxed out even at extremely slow sampling rates.  Sleep mode alleviates this problem by putting the process to sleep when no data is ready for processing; however, if data is available, it will be handled immediately and no sleeping will occur. If data is constantly available for processing, the CPU is expected to deal with it right away and the usage will appear to be high.

  • Copying from USB NTFS device with Dolphin (KDE) causes 100% CPU usage

I am copying +/- 30 GB of Music files (flac) from my external USB HDD which is formatted as NTFS.
I have installed ntfs-3g and am experiencing near 100% CPU usage. What's wrong?
Additional info: I am using KDE and initiated the copying through dolphin. KDE's system monitor only shows CPU usage near 100%, but no processes in the process view could be responsable.
    Thanks!

What mount options are used for that ntfs drive?
Edit: There are many similar threads but I couldn't find a solution other than trying out some kernel and cpufrequtils fun.

  • Export Backup takes 90% CPU Usage

    hi Gurus,
We have export backup scheduled on PROD database. We have noticed that export backup consumes alot of CPU usage.
    Database: Release 9.2.0.6
CPU usage: Around 90% TO 95% during backup activity
    Backup last for around 20min
    Script file_
    @echo off
    for /F "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%f in ('date /t') do (
    set mm=%%f
    set dd=%%g
    set yyyy=%%h
    set DT=%mm%%dd%%yyyy%
    set ORACLE_SID=PRODUCT1
echo Oracle SID set to PRODUCT1
    exp SYSTEM/DIAL1NG file=E:\ExportBackup\PRODUCT1\PRODUCT1_EXP_FULL_%mm%%dd%%yyyy%.dmp log=E:\ExportBackup\PRODUCT1\PRODUCT1_EXP_FULL_%mm%%dd%%yyyy%.log full=y grants=y indexes=y statistics=none direct=y consistent=y buffer=5000000

please advise us whether this can be fine tuned?

  • Increased CPU usage with vertex 3 on mbp 13 (2011)

Yesterday I bought the vertex 3 240 gb. I replaced and installed Lion on it. MY problem starts here! The CPU goes crazy even if i do nothing. For example, scrolling with safari, the cpu runs like 50% - 60%. A lot of heat is produced and the fan woks like a jet engine!
With the original HDD the mbp came with I didnt have such a problem.
    What I have to do?

I'm having a similar issue with scrolling, cpu usage and Lion, but not at all related to a change in HD.

  • High CPU usage of 2 methods

    Hi forum,
Using the new version of library I noted that the CPU is used at 100% during the execution of the program
    on a Intel Core 2 duo T8100 @2.10GHz with 2,00Gb of RAM..
For investigate about the causes I made a bit of debug using some long sleeps...and the results are that
    ReportClientDocument reportClientDoc = new ReportClientDocument();
    reportClientDoc.open(nomeFilein, 0);
use the 55% of the CPU and the generation of the pdf document another 35%...
The program that I'm creating will receive several simultaneous calls...so I trying to make it as light as possible.
There is a way to reduce the CPU usage for that 2 fase of execution?
    Best regards,
    Andrea

    Hi Akshara,
Could you please tell me which JVM version you are using?
Is your report based on any type of connectivity?
I use jdk1.6.0_12 and for some report a JDBC connection for other ODBC.
How much time does it take approximately to export the report from the designer? Also, is there a noticeable difference while exporting from the designer and from the SDK point of view?
The time(in sec) that it take to create the pdf is similar in both case...but the problem
is the CPU usage(%)..if I use directly CrystalReport the CPU usage is minimal but using JAVA
or the designer in Eclipse the CPU is stressed for some sec...
Given that the print requests will be many I need to reduce the system usage (if one print
use the 100% of CPU, 50 print request risk to block the system)
Lastly, are you experiencing this issue for a particular report or several reports?
         several reports

  • Lightroom Mobile Sync - Extremely High CPU Usage/Sync Process Causes LR To Lag

Since my other thread doesn't seem to be getting any responses, I'm pasting what I've found here. Please keep in mind I am not a beginner with Lightroom and consider myself very familiar with Lightroom's features excluding the new mobile sync.
    1st message:
I'm on Lr 5.5 and using the 30 day trial of Adobe CC to try syncing one collection of slight more than 1000 images. Despite already having generated the Smart Previews, I can see my CPU crunching through image after image (the rolling hills pattern in the task manager) while doing the sync. I was assuming, since I already created the Smart Previews, that the sync of this collection would begin immediately and be done by simply uploading all of the existing Smart Previews. The Smart Previews folder of the catalog is 871MB and has stayed the same despite the CPU obviously doing *something*. As it is now, the sync progress is incredibly slow, almost at a pace like it's actually exporting full-res JPGs from the RAW images (as a comparison only, I know this should not be what it's actually doing).
Another side effect of this is that I'm basically unable to use my computer for other tasks due to the high CPU utilization.
    Win 7 x64 / Lightroom 5.5
    Intel i5 2500k OC'd 4.5GHz
    16GB RAM
SSD for OS, separate SSD for working catalog and files
    2nd message:
As a follow up, now Lightroom thinks all 1026 photos are synced (as shown in "All Sync Photographs" portion of the Catalog though all images after the 832nd image show the sync icon per image stuck at "Building Previews for Lightroom Mobile" and the status at the top left corner has been stuck at "Syncing 194 photos" for over 12 hours. Is there no option to force another sync via Lightroom Desktop and also force the iOS app to manually refresh (perhaps by pulling down on the collections view, like refreshing via the Mail app)?
    3rd message:
One more update, I went into Preferences and deleted all mobile data, which automatically signed me out of Adobe CC and then I signed back in. Please keep in mind the Smart Previews were long generated before even starting the trial, and I also manually generated them again (it ran through quickly since it found they were already generated) many times. Now that I'm re-syncing my collection of 1026 images, I can clearly see Lightroom using the CPU to regenerate the Smart Previews which already exist. I have no idea why it's doing this except that it's making the process of uploading the Smart Previews extremely slow. I hope this time around it will at least sync all 1026 images to the cloud.
    4th message:
All 1026 images synced just fine and I could run through my culling workflow on the iPad/iPhone perfectly. Now I'm on a new catalog (my current workflow unfortunately uses one catalog per event) and I see the same problem: Smart Previews already generated but when syncing, Lightroom seems to re-generate them again anyway (or take up a lot of CPU simply to upload the existing Smart Previews). Can anyone else chime in on what their CPU utilization is like during the sync process when Smart Previews are already created?
    New information:
Now I'm editing a catalog of images that is synced to Lightroom Mobile and notice that my workflow has gotten even slower between photos (relative to what it was before, this is not a discussion about how fast/slow LR should perform). Obviously Lightroom is syncing the edited settings to the cloud, but I can see my CPU running intensively (all 4 cores) on every image I edit and the CPU utilization graph looks different than before I started using LR mobile sync. It still feels like every change isn't simply syncing an SQLite database change but re-generating a Smart Preview to go with it (I'm not saying this is definitely what's happening, but something is intensively using the CPU that wasn't prior to using LR Mobile).
For example: I only update the tint +5 on an image. I see the CPU spike up to around 30-40%, then falls back down, then back up to 100%, then back down to another smaller spike while Lightroom says "Syncing 1 photo".  I've attached a screenshot of my CPU graph when doing this edit on just one image. During this entire time, if I try to move onto edit another image, the program is noticeably slower to respond than it was prior to using LR mobile, due to the fact that there appear to be much more CPU intensive tasks running to sync the previous edit. This is proven by un-syncing the collection and immediately the lag goes away.
I'd be happy to test/try anything you have in mind, because it's my understanding that re-syncing photos that are edited that are already in the cloud should be simply updating the database file rather than require regenerating any Smart Previews or other image data. If indeed that's what it should be doing, then some other portion of LR is causing massive CPU usage. If this continues, I will probably not choose to proceed with a subscription despite the fact that i think LR mobile adds a lot of value and boosts my workflow significantly if it wasn't causing the program to lag so badly in the process.
I know this message was incredibly long and probably tedious to read through so thanks in advance to anyone who gets through it
    -Jeff

Thanks for reporting. Just passed  along your info to some of our devs. One of the things that needs to be created (beside smart previews) during an initial sync are thumbnails + previews for the LrM app - Guido
    Hi Guido,
Thanks for pointing this out. I realized the same thing when I tried syncing a collection for offline mode and found out the required space sounded more like Previews + Smart Previews rather than just the Smart Previews.

Hi Jeff, are your images particularly large or do you make a lot of changes which you save to the original file as part of your workflow?
The CPU usage is almost certainly from us uploading JPEG previews not the Smart Previews - particularly during develop edits as these force new JPEG previews to be sent from Lightroom desktop, but would not force new Smart Previews (unless the develop edits are modifying the original file making us think the Smart Preview is out of date) to be sent.
    Guido
My images are full-resolution ~22mp Canon 5D Mark III RAW files so they're fairly large. Even if I only make one basic change such as exposure changes, I saw the issue. By "save to the original file" I'm assuming metadata changes such as timestamps, otherwise edits to the images aren't actually written to the original file. I'm only doing develop module edits so I shouldn't be touching the original file at all at this point in my workflow.
I think it makes sense now that you mention that new JPEG previews need to be generated and sent to the cloud due to updated develop edits. My concern is that this seems to be done in real-time as opposed to how Lightroom Desktop works (which is to render a new Standard Preview or 1:1 Preview on demand, which means only one is being rendered at any given time while viewing it in Loupe View or possibly 2 in Compare View). If I edit, for example, 10 images quickly in a row, once the sync kicks in a few seconds later, editing the 11th image is severely hindered due to the previous 10 images' JPEG previews being rendered and sync'd to the cloud (I'm assuming the upload portion doesn't take much CPU, but the JPEG render will utilize CPU resources to the fullest if it can). Rendering Standard/1:1 Previews locally and being able to walk away while the process finishes works because it is at the start of my workflow, but having to deal with on-the-fly preview rendering while I'm editing greatly impacts my ability to edit. Perhaps there can be a way to limit max CPU utilization for background sync tasks?
It may help to know that I'm running a dual-monitor setup, with Lightroom on a 27" 2560x1440 display maximized to fit the display (2nd display not running LR's 2nd monitor). Since I'm using a retina iPad, the optimal Standard Previews resolution should be the same at 2880 pixels.
    Thanks again for the help!

  • Satellite C650D - CPU usage is jumping around

I bought a Toshiba Satellite C650D 2 months ago, and I used the Windows 7 that came with it thinking it was all fine and dandy until some days ago, it started getting random lag spikes.
At first it just occured when watching movies (tried 4 different programs, reinstalled all driver, scanned for malware, defragged, you name it) then it started happening outside the movie-viewing aswell. That did it for me, and I installed Windows XP. I've done so 3 times now, clean installs of Windows XP. At first it seemed fine. For some hours, then it started lagging really bad, not like in Windows 7, but CPU usage is jumping around in the boundaries between 1% and 99% randomly, but there is no processes taking it!
It lags whatever I do, just opening notepad can make it jump. I figured it would work with a clean format, but noo, of course the problem reoccured. It could perhaps be drivers, seing as the problems in Windows 7 and XP are somewhat different. I'm at my wits ends here on what to do, anything would be helpful.
