CPU Usage Maxed Out

adobe_plugin.exe is eating all 4 CPU cores, I found a mozilla site using IE, that said to do about:config then set dom.ipc.plugins.enabled; to false. Done.
Rebooted checked my CPU usage nothing running except for stuff that cannot be turned off. CPU back at 100%, ended the process, my CPU went to almost nothing.

Found the problem and the solution, the problem was Trojan:Win32/CoinMiner.E, the solution was found at Encyclopedia entry: Trojan:Win32/CoinMiner.E - Learn more about malware - Microsoft Malware Protection Center
I ran the MS Security Scanner it found it and deleted it

  • CPU Usage Maxing Out using Explorer

    Ola guys,
    Ok, here's the prob.
When I go to rename a video file XP states that the file is being used by another program (which it's not).  This is followed by a system slowdown in which explorer is utilizing the CPU to 95-100%.  This requires me to reboot.
Anyone know what causes this.  I remember seeing something about this here a long time ago.  Could this be an IDE driver problem (I'm using XPSP1 IDE drivers as they've worked the best so far).
    Thanks

    Hi,
Had a quick read through this thread on first posting, and now I'm having problems, since dowloading a large 500MB AVI file. For some reason, my system has slowed right down and explorer is using up most of my CPUs time.
I checked the link in a previous post for solving this problem - by deleting a registry key. A-Ha - I thought, I'll soon have this sorted!  Wrong  ?( - this registry key does not exist in my registry (believe me I've looked - and then some).
As explorer is using all my CPU time I can't play the AVI in media player (or most other players for that matter.)  As soon as I access the AVI (using players or editing software) I'm knackered - until a reboot! I can play the file using AVI preview but as you can imagine this is not ideal.
I know I shouldn't perpetuate this thread, as it's slightly off topic - but I reasoned that if it's already here, then there's no harm.
If anyone knows of a fix for this - I'd greatly appreciate the info.
    Thanks in advance  :D

  • Cpu use maxed out on export

working with a mac pro, 4 core 3 gig speed, 8 gigs ram, fcpx. I shot off a logitech webcam in quicktime, 5 gig file, imported to fcpx, exported thru a cpmpressor preset for vimeo, 720p. It took 5 hours to export and between 98% and 100% cpu.
something has got to be wrong, any suggestions?

Firstly I would expect the CPUs to be maxed out since FCP & Compressor are designed to use all the computing power available.  As to the time, well it depends on so many parameters.  An input movie in a compressed format that is 5GB quite big - I find a 15 min 1080p movie can take 40 min to export to file also on a 4-core  Mac Pro 2013 and I would guess that yours must be at least an order of magnitude larger so I'm not sure that 5 hours is totally unreasonable, (especially if you are not doing background rendering).  Some-else with more experience than I may be able to make a better judgement if you supply more details.
    Geoff.

  • Why isn't CPU usage maxed

I notice when I burn a project on iDVD the activity monitor shows the cpu usage btw 140 and 160% when encoding the video and like 30% when encoding the audio. I'm guessing if it showed 200% it would be utilizing all available processor power. Note my macbook has 2GB ram. This bothers me because the other day I encoded a video file that was 800MB that was 100 minutes and it took a little bit more than 4hrs to encode that. I didn't have anything else running? What gives?

It also really depends on what software you are using for the encoding. I've played with several the last couple of days and found out some interesting stuff. I used Toast 7.1 to encode a DVD into DivX for playback on a hardware DivX player. A one hour episode took 2 hours to encode using Toast (on my new MacPro). One processor was pegged, and the other three were basically idling. Today I used HandBrake to do the same exact task. This time that one hour episode encoded in 15 minutes. Watching Activity Monitor showed all four processors running at about 40% mostly in (nice) mode. The nice mode is good so that you can continue to use the computer for other tasks while it is working.
Obviously, it has a lot to do on the software. Both were Universal binaries, so I can't blame Toast's speed on Rosetta or anything else...

  • After upgrading to 10.5.4, CPU keeps maxing out and system runs slower

    Hi there,
I upgraded to 10.5.4 last week and quite frequently my CPU starts revving up and stays at a high level until I put my iMac to sleep. When I did my weekly reboot last Friday it seemed to not have the problem for a while, but then it came back again pretty quick. By checking Activity Monitor I found out that my resources are maxed out all the time, I've got about 80% CPU attached to Safari right now. Applications seem to load slower, everything runs a bit slower when it's like this.
I found under System Preferences > Energy Saver that I had my Processor Performance set to Highest, so I switched that to Automatic, but I'm still having this problem.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Travis

Thank you, Pondini, that's all I was really asking about in the 3 (4) previous messages. I wanted to know if I could download the combo updater and install it over top of the 10.5.4 version I downloaded through Software Update. Thanks for the confirmation. I did download it this morning after getting your post and have installed it.
Initially, after installation and reboot of the combo update 10.5.4, my CPU maxed out again for a little while, and I checked Activity Monitor and it said a program called "Pattern ?" was hogging the CPU, the ? refers to a second word that I didn't write down at the time, I think it started with the letter M.
I had my iMac turned off for a couple hours after that. When I turned it back on, I was ripping 4 CD's into iTunes and so it sounded like the CPU was running high again through that, but I think that's typical for when I'm ripping a CD. Anyhow, right now the CPU is running normal, about 20% of total cycles used and that Pattern ? whatever program has disappeared from the list. So maybe that was something that the Combo Updater 10.5.4 was using to fix a problem and it might be back to normal again.
So, so far so good, thanks to the people here who have helped. I will post again if the problem persists.
Also, Pondini, thanks for reminding me to check posts in the forum for information. I almost always do that initially, before I post my question. I did that this time, but I had no idea at the time that downloading the combo updater would be the solution as I was scanning the forum for people who had spiking CPU's, not any other type of problem. I suppose in hindsight, after finding that combo updater might be a possible solution to my problem I should have ended this thread and sought new information, posed a new question / post if necessary. But like you say, I would have found other posts about installing combo updater.

  • Updating Podcasts Caused CPU to Max Out ?

SO, new macbook pro, and logic runs like a dream, 10 instruments, 20 tracks, all is well...
However, mainstage is killing me. I can see the amazing potential, but the CPU keeps spiking, literally when I try to loopback 1 instrument. It is ridiculous. I'm verging on submitting to Ableton, help me please!

Did you check the I/O buffer size in Preferences/Audio? It can well be, that small buffers like 32 frames may screw the show. Which instruments are you using? MS in single threaded, so everything is processed on a single core.

  • CPU maxing out with Google Image search, some other websites

When I try to use Google Image search or load SBNation website articles, Firefox's CPU usage maxes out and it becomes unresponsive for a good 10 seconds before it has loaded everything. This is a new problem that has popped up within the last few weeks.
I've tried disabling all addons and plugins, removing cookies, clearing cache, downgrading from the beta version to 23 and none seem to make any difference.

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

  • Conky + ratpoison = 100% CPU usage

Is anyone having this problem ?
When I run conky in a ratpoison session , the CPU usage maxes out .
A very simple .conkyrc would do this :
    use_xft yes
    xftfont Bitstream Vera Sans:size=10
    total_run_times 0
    own_window yes
    TEXT
    CPU: $cpu%

i have a similar problem, in an athlon xp cpu and 512 ram conky use no more than 5% cpu usage, but in my new computer, amd 5200+ 1 gig ram, with the same .conkyrc file it was 10%-20%... so yes... something in the hard or config makes conky needs more power, but dont know why, i switch to gkrellm so i have more functionality thanks to its plugins from AUR, less cpu usage, and can put it inside the fluxbox slit, with fbpager, and make the slit always on top so if i maximize windows, them always show, gkrellm uses no more than 5% cpu usage and can display a lot of important things

  • NI DAQmx 8.3 and CPU usage

I have similar problem as described on page http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=250&message.id=23831
but have solution and some reflections.
    first of all, about system
system use 2x PCI-6143 and take data from 16 channels with maximum rate (250 kS/s)
    program
was created about year ago (with LV 7.1.1, DAQmx 7.4) and on PC with
PIV (3.2 GHz) processor and 1 Gb of RAM work properly (CPU usage less
    30%).
Now I've recompile program with LV8.2 and update drivers to DAQmx 8.3. now program can't work properly because CPU usage 100%
I create test VI for research this problem.
First version (daq_test1) - simple code - configure daqtask and get data.
    I found:
    if
sample rate less or equal 90 kS/s (on PCI-6143) CPU usage less 5%, but
when rate more 95 kS/s CPU usage jump to 60% (for one or more channels
    on one or two devises).
Then I create simulated devise PCI-6143 in MAX and the same vi (daq_test1) require not more than 5-10% of CPU.
    also
I have examine devise 16E-4 and find the same problem: if samle rate
more than "boundary" rate, CPU usage is too much (50-70%).
Then I add configure parameters (daq_test2) - add manualy DMA "on". There are no effects (CPU usage jump to 60% on "fast" rates)
Then I  "play" with WaitMode (daq_test3). There are no effects (even if WaitMode=Sleep and SleepTime>1s CPU usage about 60%)
    Finally
I create vi (daq_test4), where "manually" check
AvailableSamplesPerChannel and call DAQmx Read only when bufer has more
    samples, that I need.
So I'd wound solution, but think driver
MUST check available samples carefully (also, why DAQmx 7.4 can fast
scan, but  DAQmx 8.3 can't do it at least the same way as previous version).

    daq_test.zip ‏78 KB

    Artem,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments support.  This is expected behavior. When the wait mode is set to Sleep, DAQmx will only sleep if and only if there is no data available to process. So, for example,  at 200 kS/s, data is filling up the buffer fairly quickly and should always be available to read, which means that the process will not sleep at all. When data is always available, the CPU is going to handle it as quickly as possible and thus the CPU will appear to be running at near 100%.
Specifying a wait mode of Sleep is really only beneficial when the acquisition is running slowly enough that a lot of time is spent in DAQmx Read waiting for the data to arrive. In the past, the CPu was maxed out even at extremely slow sampling rates.  Sleep mode alleviates this problem by putting the process to sleep when no data is ready for processing; however, if data is available, it will be handled immediately and no sleeping will occur. If data is constantly available for processing, the CPU is expected to deal with it right away and the usage will appear to be high.

  • CPU Usage - Generating Word Docs from RoboHelp X5

If you have generated a fair-sized document through RoboHelp,
and you are having problems with your CPU usage pegging out around
100%, bouncing up and down between 50% and 100%, the page
repainting as you scroll through the document, etc., this solution
    is for you!
I am using RoboHelp X5 to generate large Word documents
(2003). This solution worked perfect for me. The problem is with
document corruption, apparently. After you have generated your Word
document and opened the document, be sure to display the paragraph
marks. You will probably see the “]” mark at or near
the end of the document. Select your entire document,
except for the final paragraph mark, making sure to exclude
this symbol, and copy everything else. Open a blank Word document
and paste this content into the new document.
You will now need to reattach your template (.dot) file for
the generated document through Tools/Templates and Addins:
    1. Locate the applicable document template and attach it
(it's typically in the base generated project directory in RoboHelp
    - .dot file). Click the OK button to save.
    2. Return to Tools/Templates and Addins. Click the Organizer
button to display the Styles tab.
    3. In the right-hand list (In Normal.dot), Close the
    Normal.dot file
    4. Open the same RoboHelp .dot template as you selected
    previously.
    4. Select all of the styles once they display in the right
pane and click the <<Copy button to copy them all over to the
document template. Confirm that you want to replace all styles in
    the document.
    5. Close the menu using the Close button. The dialog closes
and your styles should all be updated, if your styles were set up
appropriately via template and style sheet settings.
You may need to also adjust the Page Setup page width
    settings, if necessary.
    Good luck!

    Peter:
Thank you for responding to me, as I may not have been clear
enough, and I apologize for that. I was trying to keep it short and
sweet. This problem started when I began using RoboHelp X5 this
    year.
    To clarify...
    - I'm not concerned with CPU usage during document
generation, that is to be expected. The document will need to be
generated originally from a RoboHelp WebHelp project. This does not
change. The problem takes place AFTER you generate a large document
and then open it in MS Word.
    - My documents are large, 140-500 pages. It took forever to
scroll through the Word document (RoboHelp-generated), the screen
kept repainting, and the CPU usage stuck fluctuating frequently
between 50% and 100%, not allowing me to do much else. Editing
those documents was a nightmare. Even if I shut down all other
    programs.
    - Something translates to the Word doc from RoboHelp that
maxes out the CPU usage, and I can't locate the exact culprit.
However, it appears to be tied to the faded "]" symbol at the end
of the document (there is a "[" at the beginning, too). So you have
to omit more than the last paragraph mark; that symbol also needs
    to be left out.
    - The "corruption" information came from Microsoft; it could
be something other than that, but this is what they said. I found
nothing that would help on the RoboHelp forum, so I went to
Microsoft to see if they had a solution. Apparently, this is a
common problem with Word 2003, but the articles didn't mention
RoboHelp in the issues. I tried this solution, adding the omission
of the "[" symbol, with complete success.
    - When you copy the document without the last paragraph mark,
it will still include the headers/footers when you paste it
(although you may need to adjust them slightly). This is not the
    problem.
    - When a document is generated, you can select to use a MS
Word template, which I do. I fully use the style sheets in
RoboHelp, and they match my Word styles (template) to keep things
in sync. Actually, this Word template remains in the project; it is
not moved to the folder that holds your Normal.dot file. So the
link to the template in RoboHelp from your document does in fact
remain intact. However, you can copy that template to another
folder outside the project and link it from there, but it won't
    matter.
    - The Word template (.dot) needs to be reapplied in order to
restore your styles, as the Normal.dot styles are applied when you
copy the content over to a new document. It doesn't matter where
you store the template. I reapply this SAME template after I copy
and paste the content into the new document. This is not the cause
of the problem. Note: The application of a template is not the same
thing as going back to the master copy. This is still a fresh
document, with the content pasted in and the same template applied.
    - I have tried deleting the local copy and starting over. I
have moved the file to another location. I have renamed or created
a 'save-as' copy of the file. I tried editing out any extra
un-necessary merge-tags in Word, looked for macros, etc. All of
these things do not resolve the CPU Usage problem.
I hope this makes more sense. You can try it out if you wish,
but you will need to do this with a large document and use the
Print View when looking at the document in Word. You'll have less
of a problem in Normal View, or with a smaller document (under 50
    pages).
    Good luck!

  • Adobe Reader CPU Usage

    Hello All,
The problem i'm having is that "acroread" process after being open for some time (many hours or even days) starts to use all the CPU without anyone touch the application. This causes lots of trouble because i'm using all the time simulation software and "acroread" starts to share CPU with my mission critical applications and I cannot be always checking if acroread has crashed.
I've tried with more than one Linux distribution and have read in some web forums that other linux distributions have the same problem.
    Currently i'm using CentOS 4.4 (Linux 2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri Jul 7 19:52:49 CDT 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux)
Even in CentOS 4.3 , 4.2 , 3.4 they all had the same problem.
I'm using acroread 7.0.8 but older versions of 7.x did the same.
Please share some ideas about this issue.
    Thanks

Not sure whether this is the same problem or a different one.
For us acroread consumes all the memory and the CPU is maxed out swapping
until the oom manager kills acroread and the machine recov
Our machines are 2GB RAM with 2GB swap, running the x86_64 version of
Scientific Linux 5.3 (a recompilation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3)
    - we don't really need a 64bit OS but some local apps run faster in 64 bit.
We first saw this with, I think, acroread 8.1.4 and continues through to 8.1.6.
(I am reluctant to switch to v9 since we are using it as a pdf viewer
not a flash viewer - adding javascript was bad enough - we would be
more likely to move to evince or another open source pdf viewer).
Typically acroread chews memory for users who run firefox 32bit
and the nppdf.so Adobe plugin, but I cannot confirm that it never
happens for users whose firefox opens a separate acroread process.
What extra imformation would help to debug this ?
    Thanks,

  • 10.5.5 - AFP maxes out CPU usage

Since installing the 10.5.5 update on our Intel Xserves, one sharing AFP Home directories will periodically begin to max out its CPU usage, this seems to happen every 2 or 3 days.
Over the space of an hour or two, CPU usage of the AppleFileServer process will increase from floating around 5% - 25% to a solid 400% (it's a Dual, Quad Xeon server so that's one whole CPU).
As an experiment, I manually disconnected all connected users (about 75 connections, 40ish that were not idle). CPU usage remained a steady 400% with 0 client connections.
Issuing a serveradmin stop afp, gives the response 'AFP Status: STOPPED' as it should, but in actually fact the process is still there. Clicking 'Stop' via ServerAdmin.app has no effect either.
The only thing that seems to work is a reboot (currently I have scheduled a 'shutdown -r now' for 1am every day).
Like I said, no problems with AFP prior to 10.5.5.
I hope there is a fix for this in 10.5.6 as it is a major problem.

Same problem here with AFP. Seems to be even worse with 10.5.6. I have two servers with home directories both doing the same thing. Only a restart seems to stop it. We also have SMB, windows users, disconnected on a random basis. Everyone may get disconnected or about 1/2 of them. This happens once or twice a week. If we use server admin to change any ACL's the SMB users also get disconnected. We are looking at switching back to Windows servers. We have had these issues since switching our home directories last summer. We have been working with a local vendor and Apple SE with no resolutions.
