CPU utilization for BO reports

Hi experts,
I am using WEBI XI 3.1. I had scheduled 50 reports for 25 concurrent users (2 reports for each user) at same time. Below is configuration of machine i used for running these reports:
RAM: Memory size: 32 GB
CPUs: 4 x 1.2GHz UltraSPARC processors
When all the reports started running at same time, CPU usage went upto 60-70%.
Does anybody has any idea, why these reports are using so much CPU?
I have BO license for UNLIMITED concurrent, UNLIMITED named users and 1 Processor.
Thanks in advance,
--Brajesh Kumar

well 1 thing to note is BO is a 32 but app and I don't think we can use even close to 32GIG of RAM (under 2 gig per process)
Why are you using a single CPU license on a 4 processor server?
Even a light task like opening notepad will spike a CPU for a couple seconds, the CPU is supposed to process as much as fast as it can.
You may want to open a case with the webi team if you think that the CPU is being over utilized when running a webi report.

Tim

  • SDK-based Management Pack causes 100% CPU utilization for HealtService.exe

    We developed an MP that uses SDK to create SCOM objects and insert a large number of performance counters ~ 2000 every 5 minute interval.
    On SCOM side the MP has about 2000 instances of UnitMonitor (only ~20 per class but there are lots of  actual objects). In these monitors we use
    DataSource based on Microsoft.SystemCenter.TargetEntitySdkPerformanceDataProvider. All worked fine for a year but lately added a bunch of new objects/counters and CPU utilization for the MonitoringHost.exe started to spike
    to 100% a few seconds after the Performance Counters were posted via SDK. The spike lasts for up to 3 minutes. No DB or Network spikes observed. We suspect SCOM does not deal efficiently with SDK Performance data - as if a separate SdkPerformanceDataProvider
    is started for every UnitMonitor when the counters are posted rather than having cooked-down - one per Target instance.
    Can anyone shed some light on this? I suspect only the Microsoft engineers would know.
    Our environment is like this:
    SCOM 2012 R2 UR4
    Windows Server 2012 8 Core, 16 GB Ram
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
    is there a way that you can reduce the number of performance insertions? Regardless of even fixing the performance issue, the impact from a database standpoint may be something to consider in the long term. My point is that fixing one issue, will take us
    to the next one, etc etc.
    I would reduce the number of insertions, only to the either insertion of the "most critical" or "top #". Also, aren't those counters already captured out of the box?

  • CPU utilization for GC...?? (Need Help)

    In am currently investigating high CPU utilization of an application at certain peak times.
    During the course of investigation, I was watching the Performance Monitor screen on the Weblogic Admin Console.
    I noticed that the "Memory Usage" graph(Amount of memory available in the JVM Heap) is showing continuous set of spikes(a SAWTOOTH pattern) during the peak times of the application.
    Now I am wondering if:
    1) I can CONCLUDE that this is really GC happening multiple times, which is showing as the sawtooth pattern on the graph.
    (I cannot turn on any verbose GC options, since the app is on production).
    2) Does doing GC contribute to the User CPU or System CPU.
    (Although the JVM i.e: Weblogic server was started as a user process, I want to know if GC is completely accounted only into the User CPU count).
    3) What would generally be the contribution of GC to CPU usage. How much CPU could it consume (minor GC and Full GC). Could the contribution be really so large that my CPU usage graph peaks out(above 85%).
    4) In case the answer for (3) is really large, then what should be my approach first..to increase New Gen size or to enable Parallel GC to use multiple CPUs (I have 2 CPUs and my GC options are default).
    Please advice. I really am in a soup.

    Hi,
    Yes, the sawtooth pattern shows that a GC has happened on every peak.
    I assume that you run on top of some Linux distribution.
    GC does contribute mainly to the value registered under User CPU unless you have limited physical memory on your machine where you could note an increase in System CPU during swapping.
    Optimization could also contribute to high CPU usage, you can turn off optimization with -Xnoopt.
    If you run with -Xgc:parallel (default with most JRockit versions), highest throughput is achieved when all CPUs concentrate on GC, thus generating a high CPU usage.
    What JRockit version are you using? (Include -showversion in your commandline or run java -version.)

  • Which metadata table in the BODS repository has data about CPU utilization of every job that gets executed?

    I have to create a performance dashboard where I need to make a graph showing CPU Utilization for individual workloads. If every job corresponds to a particular workload, is there any metadata table that would contain how much CPU Utilization corresponds to a given job?

    If i am not wrong, AL_Statistics and ALVW_History will have details of memory utilization.

  • Can't get the CPU utilization above 52%

    Hi all,
    I have an Intel i7 950 CPU based PC with Windows 10 TP on it which, no matter what, I cannot bring to 100% CPU utilization. While taking the attached screenshot, I was running prime95.exe.
    I have tested the same scenario on the same computer running Windows 8/8.1 and got the same result. However, when doing the same thing under Windows 7, CPU utilization went up to 100%.
    Anybody has any idea why this happens? Is it a different default setting somewhere (probably in registry)?
    Since I have this fast machine I would like to be able to use it at its full strength - the way things are now, my old Quad core 2 GHz PC is MUCH faster than this 8 core 3 GHz one (as I measured in several tests consisting of transcoding videos).
    Thanks for any pointers!

    Hi VikTak-9b,
    How did you get the CPU utilization information ?Are you getting the information from the task manager ?
    "I have tested the same scenario on the same computer running Windows 8/8.1 and got the same result. However, when doing the same thing under Windows 7, CPU utilization went up to 100%.

    I am a little confused here .According to my understanding ,the number is smaller the performance of the machine is higher when the other conditions are the same .

  • Code for finding CPU utilisation for executing query

    Hi, i need code for finding CPU utilisation for executing the particular query.

    Use session tracing, then in trace file you can find cpu utilization for particular statement on each phase: parse, execute, fetch and the overall.
    Or You can use the dbms_utility.get_cpu_time (if your database is 10g) in pl/sql:
    declare
    cpt1 pls_integer;
    cpt2 pls_integer;
    cputime pls_integer;
    begin
    cpt1:=sys.dbms_utility.get_cpu_time;
    <some code here>
    cpt2:=sys.dbms_utility.get_cpu_time;
    cputime:=cpt2-cpt1;
    end;
    good luck

    ASim,
    Is there any chance for you to log a CIsco TAC case so that we login to your device and check what causing the CPU to go high?
    Else here is TS method :
    ====================
    1- Check the CPU utilization (Show proc cpu sorted | ex 0.00) >>Check which process is utilizing more CPU usage.
    2- Check STP to see if there are any loops (show spann det | in ieee|from|occur|is exec) >> Check for any STP changes for VLAN , If yes then track that vlan and see which inteface is sending and recieving high packets or any drops on that particular interface.
    3-Check the CPU packets Stats,
    4-Use the following inbuilt non impacting debug to find out the packets going to the CPU(menioned in the same high CPU troubleshooting document)
    Switch#debug platform packet all receive buffer
    platform packet debugging is on
    Switch#show platform cpu packet buffered
    Focus on finding any common traits in the packets like srcmac etc.Once we know the bulk of the traffic goingto the CPU the source can be shut off
    to bring the CPU down.
    Hope that helps,

  • HP Load Runner: CPU usage for this load generator has exceeded 80%

    Recently I have downloaded LR 12.1 and installed.   Observed error  CPU usage for this load generator has exceeded 80% when executing the test with 5 user load using AJAX Trulcient IE script. For each virtual user in the script one TcWebIELauncher.exe hads been initiated and running during the test execution. Each TcWebIELauncher.exe instance is taking min 14% CPU utilization and CPU utilization for 5 users is around 75% at the time of test execution.  What is the reason behind this high CPU utilization for this less user load?. Please suggest how to handle and fix the issue.
    regards,
    Sreekanth

    You can download Trail version of Loadrunner from HP site.  That's true. all HP testing tools products are license based.
    i) If you want to use for SAP applications, you need to have SAP protocals (SAP GUI and SAP WEB). So how this licenses works is, if you want to buy 50 Vusers for SAP it cost you around $ 32k and it depends on company discount. so you need to work with HP Sales team to get the quotation then based on no of Vusers and you can procure it.
    ii) As for as i know, there is no  HP LR integration with Solution Manager.
    let me know if you have any questions.

    Also, on a side note, I could not help noticing that you are running 6.1(1b). You might want to go latest 6.4(x) which is general deployment to get various security vulnerability, diagnostic enhancement and other bug fixes.

    What IOS are you running?  If you've got 2960S, then you've got two stable IOS versions to choose from:  12.2(55)SE9 or 15.0(2)SE4.
    Any other version is rubbish.

    1. Overview of IOS Auth Manager: The capabilities of devices connecting to a given network can be different, thus requiring that the network support different authentication methods and authorization policies. The Cisco IOS Auth Manager handles network authentication requests and enforces authorization policies, regardless of authentication method. The Auth Manager maintains operational data for all port-based network connection attempts, authentications, authorizations, and disconnections and as such, serves as a session manager. So looks like this device is managing good amount of AAA sessions.
    2. Hulc LED Process: Check this bug https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCtg86211
    HTH.
    Regards,
    RS.
