    Hi,
Do you know which process is the culprit ? Please try this:
Right click a blank space on Taskbar,
    Click Start Task Manager,
Check in the Processes tab, which one uses high CPU and please post back.

  • Address Book Maxed CPU at 100%

Every time I open Address Book on OS X Server, there is another program called AddressBookManager (AddressBookManag) which opens up and spikes the CPU at 100% even after I close Address Book. I have to force quit in order to solve the issue.
Anyone have any ideas why this is occurring?

I had this problem on a MacBook Air running 10.5.8. It seems to have gone away now that I deleted a subscription to a shared address book on another MobileMe account.

  • Oracle Database 11.2.0.1.0 CPU hit 100% on Windows 2008 R2 64 bit Hyper-V

    Oracle Environment Detail:
Oracle Database Enterprise Edition :11.2.0.1.0 (NON RAC, No failsafe)
    O/S:     Windows 2008 R2 64 bit (6.1)
    Specifics: Virtual Server using Hyper-V
    Memory: 9 GB RAM
    Processor: E5540
    Specific about the issue:
I have two database instance created on this server with ‘memory_target=3600M’ each.
I am getting into an issue where I find NO activity on database except regular schedule job running using DBMS_SCHEDULER –
    •     Database FULL export DAILY schedule time 7 & 7:30 PM accordingly for both instance (takes about 15-20 mins each)
    •     Database FULL RMAN DAILY schedule time 9 & 10 PM accordingly for both instance (takes about 35-40 mins each)
This was set up on Feb 25th 2011. Since then we have encounter CPU hit 100% TWICE in this system at around 8:30 PM (SAME TIME). Both database instance exports keep running and never finish. While RMAN schedule job has NO problem. Mostly everything runs every smoothly without any issue.
    Replicate the issue:
I am unable to replicate this issue and do not know the cause of the issue.
    Work Around:
    Oracle services shutdown/Server reboot.
Would anyone know about this issue? Have any information could help? This system will become production soon and want to make sure we have solution for this.
    Thanks in advance!

I am finding that CPU hit 100% is very specific to Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 Export Utility (exp) used to take FULL database export. I understand Original Export is desupported from general use as of 11g but available for specific need.
Have anyone faced this issue with 11.2.0.1.0 Export Utility (exp)? Please help.
I have a need to use export utility which gives us migration options.
    Thanks!

Can anyone suggest why Oracle consumes 100% Memory? and how do we resolve this?.
    Regards,
    Sabdar Syed.

Many Unix tools add to each dedicated server process memory the SGA size because under Unix each dedicated server is attaching the SGA shared memory segment to its process address space: so these Unix tools are not so reliable for Oracle.
To check the Oracle memory usage, it is generally more recommendded to use the V$ views such as V$SGASTAT and V$PGASTAT.

  • ASA 5545 NIPS CPU utilization 100%

    Hi,
We are having two pair of NIPS SSP and working in Active and standby mode.
All four Devices (ASA 5545 and ASA 5525 SSP IPS) showing CPU utilization 100% on both active and standby devices.
Memory usage is also showing very highly utilized.
Kindly help me resovle this issue.
    Regards,
    Dheeraj

    Hi Dheeraj,
I don't think this is an issue. CPU 100% utilization is reported on every IPS (appliance or ASA software module) and it should be normal.
If you want to see if your device is getting more traffic than it can process, you should look at inspection load.
I hope this will help and it would be nice if someone from Cisco team could reply to this.

    Hi!
When I start a logging using DAQmx Analog Input  the computer CPU runs 100%. This causes the problem that the computer locks and the subsequent steps in the program are left without computer CPU recourse. After the logging is compleet, 1750 samples/10 channels at 250Hz, the program runs on, but the loggfile is at that point useles.

  • Evenlog viewing causes CPU usage 100% on Windows server 2008 SP2

We have Windows server 2008 SP2 with strange behaviour. When I scroll down events in eventlog viewer CPU usage hits 100% and eventlog viewer freeze. CPU usage is split between 2 processes SVCHOST.EXE (lmhosts, eventlog and Dhcp services) and MMC.EXE.
1)I tried to replace eventlog files with new ones. That didn’t helped
2)After server clean boot problem still exist.
3)When CPU hits 100% usage process explorer shows that from SVCHOST.EXE process CPU is used by service EventLog.
Any ideas how to fix this?

    Hi Santosh
    I re-installed VMware
tools and also configured VMXNET 3 - nothing changed :(
    Sorry to hear that.
Windows event log service has couple of dependencies i.e. task scheduler and windows event collector service. Can try restrating those services ?
In addition to above, try following steps
Change NTFS permission of  %WINDIR%\System32\WinEvt\Logs directory, add Local Service and
Network Service, give them FULL permissions.
Stop and Start event viewer service by running following command
net stop eventlog && net start eventlog
Issues like this might occur if the disk (FC or iSCSI SAN or even NAS) has some inconsistencies , this is true in case of both physical and virtual machines
You might want to try running chkdisk as well on the server in question

  • Can't write to external disk after cloning startup disk to it

After cloning my PowerBook Pro's startup disk to an external Thunderbolt drive, and temporarily using that drive to boot-up, the Thunderbolt drive is locked into Read Only mode.  How do I enable it to write again? The INFO pane says the following: System privilege: "Read & Write"; wheel: "Read Only"; everyone: "Read Only".  The basis for my cloning was to deal with a very full startup disk that I did a lot of video editing on (very processor intensive).  The disk had become fragmented to the point that it couldn't access sectors fast enough for editing, so I cloned it over to a G-Tech Thunderbolt drive (using Carbon Copy Cloner), reformatted the MacBook startup disk, then reverse-cloned the copied files back over from the Thunderbolt, the idea being that they'd be re-written nice 'n neat in unfragmented order into their proper sectors. I then ceased booting-up from Thunderbolt, but now the system seems to think that Thunderbolt is still special in some way like a gossling bonded to a surrogate human mother, and it won't let me write to it.  Can anybody help me with this?

Have you verified and if necessary, repaired the disk(s) using Disk Utility on your Mac?

  • Problem - Playing media stops when CPU reaches 100%

    Hi,
I have a big problem, I use JMF for playing my videos and music for my video game.
But if the CPU reaches 100 % the playing media stops and if the Processor is in the state less as 100% it continues playing.
But windows media player continues playing for some seconds after reaching 100%.
Would it help to increase the Buffer with BufferControl or is this a problem for Java?

You can't really compare JMF to the windows media player because your java app is undoubtedly doing other things at the same time as it's playing your music and videos. Win media player just has to worry about playing the video/music

  • MDNSResponder keeps taking up more memory. After restart, it takes up about 5MBs of memory; after a few days, it is currently at 165MBs, and that's not the highest its gone. Currently running 10.5.8 with all updates.

I'm running an Intel Core Duo iMac with 10.5.8 and all updates.
The computer has been running slow, even after replacing the HDD a few months ago. I noticed last week in Activity Monitor that the process mDNSResponder was consuming several hundred MBs of memory. I searched, thinking it was malware, but found that it is the correct spelling of the process and is vital for Mac networking. I restarted the computer, and mDNSResponder shrunk to only consuming about 4MBs of memory.
I checked again a week later, and it's climbed back up to consuming 165MBs of memory, and seems to be climbing.
Is this normal? Between it and Safari, there's always at least 300MBs of memory being consumed, just being connected and using the internet.
I've read elsewhere that sometimes Brother printer drivers can cause mDNSResponder to consume much of the CPU; however, I don't have a Brother printer, and mDNSResponder isn't using any of the CPU currently. I couldn't find anything posted about a possible memory leak.
When I open the process in Activity Monitor, it says there are zero hangs.

The amount of memory it's using is largely irrelevant - at least given the available data.
One of the things mDNSresponder does is cache DNS records, so of course it's going to use less memory after a restart (it has no cached data) than it is after a couple of weeks of runtime (it's cached a slew of lookups). In fact, generally you want this process to use memory since it improves overall performance.
The exception to that rule, of course, is if you don't have enough memory in your machine to do the other tasks, in which case that 165MB might be better used by other processes to reduce paging, but that isn't apparent from your post since you don't include any kind of memory stats. If you have plenty of memory available then the 165MB used by mDNSResponder isn't an issue.
Look more closely at your memory utilization and processes that have high CPU usage rather that ones with large memory footprints per se.

  • NTP/GSP high CPU util

    Hi,
We have 2 ASR9k (v4.2.0) routers doing "light" xconnect work, no problems so far.
Lately, we have noticed ntpd/gsp utilizing an abnormally high amount of CPU, is this normal behavoir on the ASR9k?
    RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:asr-1#show processes cpu | utility head -n 2
    Fri Aug 10 10:52:52.285 CET
CPU utilization for one minute: 57%; five minutes: 57%; fifteen minutes: 57%
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:asr-1#show processes cpu | utility egrep -e ntpd -e gsp
    Fri Aug 10 10:52:59.346 CET
    233559  23%     23%      23% gsp
    266447  27%     27%      27% ntpd
    RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:asr-2#show processes cpu | utility head -n 2
    Fri Aug 10 10:53:39.162 CET
CPU utilization for one minute: 56%; five minutes: 56%; fifteen minutes: 56%
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:asr-2#show processes cpu | utility egrep -e ntpd -e gsp
    Fri Aug 10 10:54:11.032 CET
    233559  22%     22%      22% gsp
    266447  28%     28%      28% ntpd
    /Bjorn

CSCtw87827 is a known issue in 4.2.0 causing high CPU in ntpd/gsp.
Workaround is to enable IPv6 on the source interface used by NTP, but I'd recommend considering moving to 4.2.1 which is much more stable (unless extended validation testing was made for 4.2.0 of course)
Here is the full release note:
    Issue:
    ======
The NTPD process takes around 27% cpu usage after upgrade to 4.2.0 30I. We did not see this issue before and we don not see this issue on another ASR9K running on 20L also.
    Root cause:
ens_read_nb is getting called irrespective of producer available for requested interface exists or not. So this retry is happening infinitely if the requested interface is not configured with ipv6.
    Fix:
    ====
When ENS_CMD_NB_STATUS is received we need to check the 'status' flag which is part of 'grp_ens_nb_status_msg_st' which is passed as part of 'value' parameter to the consumer callback. If this comes as 'ETIME' then it represents producer is available, but timeout happened due to some other reasons. If status is 'ESRCH' then it represents that producer doesn't exist for the requested interface. These are the two values for 'status' as of now.
    Workaround:
    ===========
Configure either 'ipv6 enable' or an ipv6 address under requested interface. This will avoid infinite retrying from consumer library.

    ===============================
If any one of the LAS client register for link local address without enabling ipv6 on that interface, which may be due to configure/unconfigure/rollback and all.
