CPU VDD Control over Voltage and Temps questions

Hi Im running a msi890gxm-g65 with 1055t and g skill ddr3 ram at 1667 and am sitting overclocked at 3.5 Ghz with voltage at 1.375. I was trying to push it further so i know i had to increase my voltage but whenever i increased the option CPU Voltage in bios to any number it would always show as 1.375 in any program such as cpuz or coretemp. So i noticed i had to increase the CPU VDD Voltage option also to be able to obtain the voltage i wanted. So my question is how do those two work together? to obtain whatever voltage i want should i change both of these to the same number ?
Also in bios which i know is not idle I am noticing my temps at around 46C which is around what my full load will be with prime ( with a max of 50C after 12 hours for a short period) as reported by coretemp and hwmonitor. I know there is many reports that Thuban 1055t temps are not reported accurately in software programs so that it would be a good bet to add 10-15C to whatever the software temp is shown.  So does anyone know how much load is put on system when bios is showing temperature, i just want to make sure im not running it to hot as i know they should not exceed 62C, and i expect to overclock it more then it currently is.

thanks im getting kind of confused though i noticed if i change CPU VDD Voltage and CPU Voltage to the same number it will change what is reported in cpuz VID. I changed it down to 1.35 instead of default 1.375.
So basically for CPU VDD VOLTAGE and CPU VOLTAGE do i need to change both of these to the same number to get required voltage needed for my overclock ?
Also i had to raise my CPU NB Voltage to be able to boot into windows past 3.8ghz and few minutes of prime seems fine.
My current settings are
CPU VDD VOLTAGE AND CPU VOLTAGE are at 1.387 and CPU NB VOLTAGE AND CPU NB VDD VOLTAGE are at 1.3
Running 272x 14 = 3.8 ghz and ddr3 memory running at 1450mhz.
I cant seem to get it past this ghz even when raising cpu to 1.475, should i raise cpu nb voltage more to achieve ? had same problem at 3.5ghz and cpu nb set to auto.
Are the voltages i posted safe ?? are CPU VDD VOLTAGE AND CPU VOLTAGE the same thing and cpu nb vdd and cpu nb vdd the same thing as well ?

• What to use to monitor voltage and temps?

I have a neo2 - speedfan and Core center report different voltages and temps! ie speedfan shows 12.08v on the +12 and core center reports 11.91v. Which is more accurate? Temps are only off by a couple of degree's. Im more worried about the voltages.

Hey
You use FTPS(FTP with SSL encryption) when you need to transfer encrypted message.the channel via which you transfer the message can be a regular channel(like internet) but the message is encrypted by using various private.public key security algorithms.
You need to do FTPS and can follow the below article
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d024ca8e-e76e-2910-c183-8ea4ba681c51?overridelayout=true
SFTP(SSH with FTP) on the other hand needs a dedicated transfer channel, you connect to SFTP servers by logging to channels which protect any intrusion.to implement SFTP you need to buy third party adapters like SeeBurger or develop your own modules. You also need to buy license for FTP SSH server like FTP VAN,AS2 etc
So the bottom line is,in FTPS the payload is encrypted but the channel can be secure or regular channel(like internet) but in SFTP the channel itself is secure and only people who have access to it can transfer files over it.
Hope that helps
Thanks

• Fan and temp questions about 8 core

My 8 core Mac Pro was just delivered this morning and I have a couple questions. First, it runs quiet...much quieter than my parents quad G5. Intake and exhaust fan speeds at idle are 500/600 rpm respectively. That's about half of the quad G5. From Hardware Monitor, my core temps range from 132F to 145F which is much hotter than the 110-ish of the G5. One interesting thing to note is that CPU A heatsink is at 109 degrees while CPU B is over 125. It always runs 15-20 degrees cooler than the other. Does this look alright?
I ran some Cinebench and Altivec Fractal tests which also came up with some interesting results. The Altivec Fractal maxed out all cores. Their temps rose quickly to the 180-200 degree F range. Two of the cores got into the low 200's. The fans didn't even look like they had sped up yet. I closed the program in fear of doing any damage and took a look at the fan graph. The fans were actually starting to speed up after I quit the program. I ran the test again and the fans seemed to ramp up a lot faster than before and caught the cores at 200 degrees. Maybe they were a little lazy on the first try?
An comments would be appreciated. Other than that, I'm very happy with the performance of the octa-core.

They are thankfully very very quiet. The air coming out is hot none the less.
you might want to look into installing smcFanControl
http://www.versiontracker.com
which can be used to set higher default fan speed, as well as let you change it from menu bar to other settings / preferences.
I have settings for 750-1000-1500-2000 rpm. 1000 or less and it is still quiet.
Someone asked about max temps and 'frying' an Xeon, but apparently it is kind of a complex cpu, it has a number of built-in safeguards to shut itself down... but the Intel rep that someone emailed with wouldn't get into specifics.
I would worry about heat affecting drives and also an X1900. That think is good at pushing air out the back, but it also pulls in the internal (hot) air, and can pull fine dust etc into the sealed video card housing, which can be a problem of its own.
Always give the Mac Pro time to cool off before opening the doors. Those FBDIMMs don't like sudden shock stress of changes in temperatures.

• Voltages And Temps

I Have A K7N2-L Motherboard,And In MBM And PC Alert 4 It Says My CPU Temp Is 52c Idle. On My Other Board(Gigabyte GA-7DX+) It Said CPU Temp 32-34 Idle. What Is It With The Sensors On This Board? Also The Voltages Jump Around Alot(They Didn't Do That With The Gigabyte)
Thanks,

MSI K7N2-L
The temp sensor isnt a problem, it just reads higher than most.  Maybe MSI are in secret partnership with HSF manufacturers!
The voltages are a bit of a problem.  I don't know if it's the two-phase power supply design that's causing the problem, or the need for a better power management setup altogether.
I've noticed that the voltage's struggle to remain within spec, and occasionally dip outside of it - or +.
I've got a version 1.0 board.

p26 of the AMD white paper specifies that the maximum permissable "spike/trough" of voltage is:
+150mv / -100mv
with a maximum transient time of 10 micro-seconds.
The normal range should be within 50mv of the rated chip voltage.
If your Vcore is rated 1.65V it should stay between 1.60 and 1.70V.  The motherboard monitors arn't sensitive enough to pick up transient (
Certainly running MBM for 5 minutes, it's already threatened to shut my PC down because the vcore is out of the 50mv spec.  I'll leave it running as long as I can and post the results sometime....

• Is there a Plug-In hook that allows direct control over position and rotation of a camera w/o keys

Hi,
I'm developing a camera animation system for Cinema 4D and looking ahead to see if it's adaptable for AE.  In C4D I can create a custom camera object and control it's motion through code (no keys or visible scripting or expressions).  Is this possible in AE?
So for example:
User creates a camera and adds something I created to attach to it (like a tag in C4D) OR I can create a custom camera object that inherits all the normal camera functions but adds additional parameters I add that auto-animates the camera (again w/o keys / visible expressions).

hi Chris Smith x0h00!
welcome to the forum!
thus far the fun part.
now the problem part.
what you're describing i possible, but just barely, and not without caveats.
i don't know how deep you knowledge of the SDK is, so i'll start by explaining some basic concepts.
if you're already familiar with it, the my apologies, and just skip ahead.
there are 2 kinds of plug-ins in AE:
1. EFFECTs, which are applied to layers in compositions, and are responsible for processing the image or the audio (or both) of a layer.
these effects are handed an input pixel buffer containing the image result of previous effects and masks, and are given a pixel buffer to write the output to.
2. AEGPs (After Effects General Plug-in), which are loaded on AE boot, and are kep loaded throughout the session. such plug-ins can manipulate project elements, change preferences, and add menu commands (and a host of other things).
effects can also use most of the functionality available for AEGPs, so an effect can also change project elements and all sorts of other goodies.
now something about AE's rendering logic:
all 2D layers in a comp are rendered using AE's internal 2D renderer.
all 3D layers in a comp are rendered using an AEGP of type "Artisan" (such as "Advanced 3D", as found in the comp settings).
when a render is invoked, the artisan receives from AE a transformation matrix for the camera and the transformation matrix for each layer.
now the part where it all starts to make sense:
the transformation matrix of a layer or camera is a result of the transform parameters values, including parenting layers.
the only way to change the transformation matrix, is to change the transform parameters values, or those of a parent layer.
neither an effect, nor an AEGP can change the transformation matrix. they can only change the param values.
the only exception to the rule, is an Artisan AEGP.
since it is doing the actual rendering, it can ignore the existing transformations and come up with it's own.
to pull that off you need to write a 3D renderer, and your artisan needs to be the selected one for that comp. (can be set automatically by a plug-in)
what are you other options?
1. well, you can't create a new kind of camera (or any other kind of layer), so you can only affect a regular camera.
you can have an effect or AEGP change the camera's transformation values each frame.
that would create a camera motion without keyframes or expressions, though it would be a bit strange for the user to see the camera behave that way...
you could also incorporate exisitng camera values to allow the user a adjust the camera, though that would not allow keyframing of such changes as you apply new values for each frame which would create keyframes of it's own.
you would also not get any motion blur from the camera movement, because as far as AE knows, there is no animation, just a constant value that magically changes whenever the time does.
2. there are also custom perspective views in AE. you can manipulate them over time instead of a camera. (i think you can set values to the custom views... not sure about it)
in such a case the user won't have a camera to tweak, and you'll also receive no motion blur.
3. connect the camera via parent to a null, make the null invisible (either via making that layer shy or some other shenanigans as making the layer stream hidden (i think it's possible)), and manipulate the parent null.
that's all i can think of.
i hope i didn't discourage you...

• CPU Fan at zero rpm and temp CPU A 100C

Today I noticed that my iMac was getting a bit hot. iStat widget reported that the CPU Fan was running at 0 rpm and that CPU A temperature was 100 degrees Centigrade!
Rebooting didn't help. Then I let it cool down and did a SMC reset. Luckily this worked, CPU Fan is running again at 800rpm.
I believe that it was pure luck that I noticed this, so I don't know for how long my fan wasn't working. Could this be harmful for my computer? Any suggestions what I should do to check if something is damaged?
What can I do to avoid this from happening in the future?
Best regards,
Jeroen

its connected to the motherboard. and its a simple case fan that lian li gave me. spins at 2200rpms about. and no bios cant see it spinning either and i tried another case fan that i know that works and still cant detect it. it was working fine the other day! it was just yesterday that  i noticed core center started beeping telling me its not detecting speed.

• 770-g45 voltage and tems

Posting in regards to the voltage and temp at a sensor on my motherboard. AOD & MSI OC utilites read 120 v at voltage sensor 2 and 128c at temp sensor 2, processor runs between 21(idle) and 27(load). could be graphics (5850) but the temp is somewhere between 32c and 48c according to CCC. anyone run into something like this?

"anyone run into something like this?"
Yes, +500 times, and the answer is almost always what brozly says.

• Update on my K8N and a question about voltage

Well,
I've read all the threads in this and several other forums about the k8n.  I have tried everything (including putting my raid on sata 3 & 4).  I cannot go above 235 - 240 HTT and that's with an 8x multiplier (also tried 10, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4) and memory set to 166.  This is using clockgen (also tried through the bios).
I can run 220 HTT 11x multiplier (3400+) with 1:1 memory and it is 100% stable.  I have the 1.2b5 bios.  So I'm still pretty bummed about the lack of OCing.
Anyway, on to my question.  When I bring up CPU-Z and look at the CPU tab. The voltage jumps around a bit.  I have it set to 1.55 the bios and CPU-Z will display 1.552, 1.568, 1.552, 1.536, 1.552, etc. back and forth jumping every few seconds or so. Also the core speed fluxuates by about 0.1 MHz for each jump. So..... Is this normal or is my power supply wacked?  I've just never seen this before on my previous computers.
Thanks!

My voltages do the same thing. Since it's not a huge percentage of the total voltage, I wasn't too worried about it and attributed it to tolerance.

• Apple Macbook 13.3" Laptop-Black 2008 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo will not boot up and instead I get a grey screen with a folder and a question mark over it.

My Apple Macbook 13.3" Laptop-Black 2008 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo will not boot up and instead I get a grey screen with a folder and a question mark over it.  I've tried Option key, and Control S keys and it still will not boop up.  Can anyone help?

If you are running Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
If you are running Lion or later:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it isthree times faster than wireless.

• CPU Fan Speed and Memory Questions

I"ve noticed recently that my fans sound a little different. When using aperture and sliding some of the image adjustment controls the fan will increase as I'm sliding the controls and stop when I stop.
I've been monitoring with istat pro, and my CPU fan is almost always at 0, I've seen it not at 0 a few times but very rarely.
Readings:
Power Supply: 599
Exhaust: 655
CPU Fan: 0
HD/Expansion: 499
Temperatures seem normal except northbridge has always run a little hot since I got the machine. About 180F
I did the hardware test and the message I got was:
4MOT/1/4000002:CPU_MEM
I'm assuming this means that one of my memory chips is bad but where do I go to find out what this code means? And does this mean there is no problem with my CPU fan or did the test just end when it found this error?

Good news about the RAM. Have you checked to see if the fan is gunked up with dust and dirt or some other obstruction? Could free it up or be the source of a fan failure.
A simple procedure is to reset the SMC (System Management controller). Here are Apple's instructions:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
The SMC has control over the fans. The reset won't do any harm but follow the instructions.

• Questions re frequency and temp of i7860 on p55 GD 65

Im using an  i7 860 @2.8 Ghz on my MSI P55 GD65 mobo and whenever i start my computer it post that the cpu frequency @3.822 and in the cell menu the cpu frequency is also stated as 3.822 Ghz.
I use Real Temp to monitor the temp and the cpu frequency is  also indicated and i notice that the cpu frequency changes from as low as 1,4 Ghz to as high as 3,822 Ghz depending on the load.
I am aware that an i7 has a Turbo Boost mode but I already disabled the Turbo Boost and disabled OC Genie in the bios and still it increases its cpu frequency to a maximum of 3.822 Ghz.
Is the constant change of cpu frequency normal even i have already disabled the Turbo Boost in the bios and what is the normal temperature of an i7 860 if it reaches 3.822 Ghz considering my room temperature of 35 C being a hot summer day. Temp reaches 60 C plus at 88% load.
I never activated the OC Genie.
Please help. thanks in advance.

You obviously talked about the BIOS Setup.  When I am referring to "OC Genie" I am talking about the automatic overclocking feature that is enabled/disabled via the board's OC Genie Button(s).  Please read the user manual section that deals with the OC Genie feature to know what I mean.

does anyone know how the cutout filter works and is there a way of achieving the same effect without using filters to get more control over final look?

Several ways to get similar results.  Image > Adjustments > Posturize with low values similar to what you'd use n Cutout.  This is the most flexible way I can think of as you keep the image in RGB mode with layers intact.  A more radical approach would be to reduce bit depth using Indexed Colour.  You'll need to experiment with settings, try changing Forced to Primaries, and Matte to Foreground Color.  There's no going back from this route, although you can change the mode back to RGB to re-enable layers, adjustment layers etc.
A nice thing about the Filter gallery filters is that you can change the layer to a Smart object with all the control that gives you.
Now if only this forum could filter out bizarre content.

I have been trying to setup a Desktop Admin so that the group has full and total control over all desktops. I am using SCCM 2012 SP1. I have found very little documentation that explains in detail on how to set this up. I have read about role based access,

Hi John and Matthew,
Great link John, thank you for that.  I did follow the instructions to a "T", but the Desktop Admin is still having problems.  He is trying to image a new machine (so it is not in the collection yet). When he tries to import it by using the "Import
Computer Information Wizard", he gets to the "Choose Target Collection" tab, selects the "Browse" button, but cannot see any collections.  I have verified (using the instructions that Matthew provided - thank you) that he is a "Full Administrator" for

Could you please tell me what I am missing?
