CPU/VID/NB temps?

New to the overclocking scene, but have tried to do some research before starting. This board has been a lot of help, so I thought I'd ask a question. Have an MSI diamond and was watching the temps because atm I only have stock cooling. My CPU stays around 49c, but noticed my NB was at 67c, also at full load my Video card gets around 67c, are these temps OK? Or are they running too hot?

Well the case is a Lian LI 61, it has 4 88mm fans, 1 on top , 1 on the side and 2 in front. I had just got done running quake 4 at max setting for 10 mins, was gonna check up on temp and those were the readings. I haven't really gone out of the way to get extra cooling, though it seemed stock for those stuff was good enough.
edit: I'm guessing it's load temps since I was just running a game, before this the temps were 47c for the cpu, 49 for the vid and 43 for the NB, Really only the NB and VID spiked up from running quake 4.

785gt-e63 CPU VID voltages?

MSI 785GT-E63 mb, everything's set to auto, no oc'ing.
8GB of Kingston DDR2 ram, memory tested fine.
When I installed AMD Overdrive to check on voltages and things as I am getting BSOD with bug code 124 in Win 7 64 bit.
The one voltage that fluctuates is CPU VID, overdrive shows it should be at 1.400 and it fluctuates from 1.025 - 1.400, is this normal? It is now doing this with 2 different power supplies.

Yes CPU voltages go up and down, it's normal because C&Q does that.
As Bas said, the fact that the Core Voltage fluctates is normal. This is a power saving feature of your processor. These fluctuations should not cause any troubles under normal circumstances. That is why there is usually no reason to turn off the C&Q feature.
However, for testing purposes you can always turn this feature off, just to find out if that will yield any change regarding your BSOD problem. You are then able to determine whether or not your BSODs are C&Q related.

The power needs of this configuration are not that demanding, which means both of your PSUs should actually to be able to handle all of your components, given of course that the specifications are correct and that both PSUs are functioning properly.

Perhaps that will help you to do further analysis of the BSODs. Please also check the Windows error log and look for any indication of other exceptional errors occuring around the BSODs.
Temporarily disabling some of the peripheral onboard components may also help to find possible causes (e.g. NIC, onboard sound). You could also test a stand-alone video card (with low power demands) to circumvent the onboard video adapter for testing purposes.
Furthermore, I would also disconnect the optical drive completely for testing purpose and run a diagnostic test on the hard drive using a dedicated Samsung utility.

CPU Ratio is your CPU Multiplier. Multiplier and CPU FSB is formed CPU Actual Frequncy. CPU Vid is the Voltage for your Processor. about best settings..... CPU Vid must be raised only when CPU is need to be a stable. CPU Ratio is usefull the be setup by lower multiplier and that will help to raise CPU FSB which will be grant the better performance. etc CPU Ratio and CPU Vid is usefull when you are going to Overclock your machine, if you do not OC your machine leave thease settings to defaults values.

2 unrelated questions. Prob w/ Adjust CPU VID in BIOS - AMD Processor Driver

First up, I just checked the BIOS section "Adjust CPU VID" for the first time and the default setting is at 1.500v. I never touched it. I have a Venice core (Revision E) and the stock voltage as far as I know is supposed to be 1.35v. And despite all that Everest is telling me the cpu core is at 1.39v right now. Is the BIOS not setting my voltage correctly?
Second, are you supposed to have the AMD Processor Driver installed? I didnt even know about it until I stumbled across it on AMD's site. I assume I've been running on some kind of Windows default processor driver all this time. Would the direct from AMD version increase performance, stability etc?

yep your right on 1.35v though AMD post it as "variable" in the Thermal and Electrical Specification of 8th generation AMD Processors Page 6

There are 2 AMD drivers if you mean AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor Driver for Windows XP x64 Edition and Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions Version (exe) 1.2.2.1 This is for cool'n'quiet & isn't needed. Windows XP takes care of the 2nd see the processor tab in windows device manager.

What are safe CPU/GPU operating temps?

I'm running BONIC on my new 6 core Mac Pro, 32GB RAM, 1TB storage, dual D700 GPU's and I've been monitoring CPU/GPU temps and fan RPMs using Temp Gauge Pro ... once BONIC gets going you can see all the CPUs maxed out and temps begin to rise... as expected of course, but after about 5 minutes or so the fan is maxing out at 1900 rpm and I see max CPU temps hitting ~92 degrees ... GPUs are running cooler...
is this within the safe operating range ?

I have the base 4 core and with Mac FanConrol I get 60C GPU Diode, 57 CPU Proximity while running Setie@home and Einstein. Fan is 914

100% cpu 104deg core temp?

Is it normal for the core temp of one of my two cores to stay at 104deg and the other around 100? Is that a safe temp to work at? I'm using macfanctld and it sounds like the fans are full throttle, but maybe I did something wrong. I checked the fan max rpm and the file said 5700. Shouldn't it be 6000? I tried changing it but I get access denied even as root. Any ideas?

Already have frequency scaling using laptop-mode-toolls. Also went into applesmc.768 and found fan1_max or something of the sort which contained a single entry as a number. I did the following:
sudo su
vim fan1_max
changed the value to 6000
then :wq

I have about 97% directoryservice cpu usage, 55% cpu usage, high temps and fan speeds with very minimal activity on my macbook, how can I resolve this?

Recently my computer has only been showing 42% idle when im doing absolutely nothing on the computer, i'll only be browsing the internet. Even when I shut down programs such as drop box, skype, itunes, etc. When I check activity monitor the only process that is using over 5% is directoryservice, and it is usually sitting between 90-99% usage. I downloaded istat which is showing my cpu temp at 77 degrees and fan at 4000 rpm. If I watch a youtube video it will kick into 6000 rpm. Please tell me how I can resolve this issue!! When I restart the macbook it seems to work for about 10-20 minutes where I can browse with ~90% idle and ~2000 rpm.

I discovered this issue independent of this thread, and can confirm that killing KiesWifiAgent will instantly take care of DirectoryService's high CPU load. You'll also free up a bunch of memory. On my MBP (8 GB RAM), Kies had leaked its way to consuming 1.5 GB of memory.

Where to find CPU's max temp.?

Hi MSI users, I have an MSI 970a-g43 motherboard with an AMD fx 6300 cpu. The problem is that I have A little tower, so the processor can reach till 65 - 68 degrees. The mobo i think its ok (28° - 30°).But I really need where to find how much temp. should the motherboard support for the CPU till it shutdown.

The CPUs limit for Visheras was never listed. AMD employees have said 65C. Most of us say 62C for safety. There have been many that ran as high as 80C many up to 75C and so far no deaths. But that wasn't sustained temps. 62C is the max sustained temp for absolute safety and longevity. As far as the socket, that depends on the manufacturer of the Motherboard and generally is 72C.
As a little side note, the CPU temp gauge is an algorithm not an actual sensor. So below 40C it is very innacurate, you wont really be running at 5.1C (what my compter shows for minimum currently) if your ambient = temp of the air is 25C.

Mail 4.5 on 10.6.7 uses 100% CPU, fan loud, temp up to 81 deg C

i've browsed the different threads, and i cant seem to get the right answer for my issue. i dont have mobileme, or any sync issue.i dont have any third party mail plugin.. i originally have 4 mailboxes. 3 gmail, 1 pop. i've reset smc and pram. ran disk utility and repaired disk permission. nothing happened. so i did a fresh install of the mac os 10.6...updated it to 10.6.7 and after 2 days i had the same issue.
what i've done so far was, i deleted some emails from the server. deleted the 2 mailboxes. so now i have 1 gmail and 1 pop. deleted smart mailboxes. deleted rss. disabled junk mail filtering. uninstalled all microsoft programs. deleted cache. rebuild mailbox. disabled auto detector for address book. AND I STILL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.
whenever i launch mail, it uses 99-101%CPU and temperature would rise to 70-80 degrees Celsius, fan rpm would be 4000-almost 6000
i don't believe that this is a hardware issue because when i quit mail, CPU usage is normal for other apps...fan would slow down around 2000 rpm, temperature would be cooler around 40-50 degrees Celsius...
im using a white macbook, 2.26 ghz, 2gb 1067 mhz ddr3.....

for the benefit of those who have the same problem as i do........i might have fixed the issue now....the thing was, address book suddenly acted the same way as mail...their common denominator: our company server. we were using a CARDDAV server for address book and i think it's on an infinite syncing loop ...what i did was i deleted ~/library/application support/address book after deleting the folder, i restarted my MB and reconnected my address book to our company server again.....cpu usage is now back to normal...or at least im still observing it
i've read a couple of threads and they mentioned that this issue has something to do with an infinite loop...i think they might be right! i hope apple would be able to resolve this issue

CPU and operating temps when rendering in FInal Cut

I had some issues in Final Cut today, and had to start a project over. I noticed render times seem to have gotten slower. I don't think it's just me, I remember my computer rendering clips much faster than it did after the crash. I also noticed the fans constantly blowing at full bore when rendering. I decided to monitor temperatures during the rendering process. The CPU temperature immediately starts to climb. It averages between 85-89 degrees Celsius during the rendering process. Is this normal for it to get this hot during rendering? I have read many different things.

I'm using FCP 7. It seems like my CPU has been running warm overall at times. I hope things are alright with it.

I don't own a Neo2 anymore, although I wish I did. IMO it is THE best s939 AGP board out there. It is good to hear there is some dividers available in the BIOS now too, lol.
Anyway, if you mess with the different CPU voltage settings, you are sure to find a combo that puts it right where you want it. And I measured the vcore directly off of the board with a mm - I don't usually trust apps for that sort of thing when pushing 1.7+ volts into a 90nm or 65nm CPU.
It is also my experience that Ntune should only be used in case of emergency, if all else fails. I have had nothing but problems with that stupid program and I wouldn't touch it again with your PC if I had the choice. If you've got clockgen, A64 Info, and Core Center, you can rule the world.

I could not tell which of my four internal fans it was. I use SMC fan control which was active at the time and it showed 27C and my default of 1069rpm. I then installed ran temperature monitor and my ambient temp shows 22.0 C. AS of now my Core 1 is 31.0C Core 2 25.0C Core 3 35.0C Core 4 31.0C.
Any ideas on what might have caused this?

Unrelenting coreservicesd process occupied CPU@92% and temp at 96ºC

I started up my mbp, logged in and loaded mail, safari and what not as usual. Having just been turned on, I thought it a bit odd that it as cooking up to 92ºC within minutes. Then I noticed via my iStat menu running on the top bar that CPU usage was committing 92% usage to coreservicesd (Core Services Daemon). I kicked on the fans, propped it to vent the underside and tried to figure out what coreservicesd was. 15 minutes later, 92% of the CPU was still taxed by coreservicesd. I couldn't find anything in the session log. Did a restart and everything works as normal.
So, any insight as to what coreservicesd was doing and why it got seemingly stuck?

What version of iStat menu are you using now? You can always stop a process by opening /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor and using that to kill the process.

K8N Neo2 CPU Vid, CPU Volt How-to

I've been trying to find the lowest Vcore setting that my box would survive the Prime95 torture test. So far i've had mixed results trying to set Vcore using CPUvid, and CPU volt. I'm using bios 1.3.
I've tried setting CPUvolt to read from the CPUvid ( set at any voltage, ex. 1.525) but to no avail. If i set it this way it won't matter what CPUvid is i will always get the stock Vcore. The only way to get the Vcore to change is by setting the CPUvid to some percentage value over stock. Is this how it's supposed to work? I'd like to do incremental changes like 1.5, 1.525, etc.. but i haven't been able to set Vcore this way.

I want to change my vcore to 1.55v i do this then i only get 1.40v instead ??
how come this ?? im using Latest version of BIOS..
I also have these weird shutdowns that im not able to see a solution to, wont power on at all after this happens, i need to unplug the power cord for awhile and
press power button then it startup again...
Im thinking of returning this motherboard seems to unstable for me ! =(

Macbook pro 13' 2012 fan problem? (high cpu temp)

my macbook gets cpu temp at 98C and then the fan starts raising speed from the default rpm(2000rpm).
with heavy cpu usage and cpu temp at 93-100C, tha fan waits about 2-5 minutes and then kicks in and increase the rpm( the higher rpm i saw was 4000rpm at 101C cpu temp). all the other time the fan speed is between 1995-2004rpm.
Is this normal?
I've already tried SMC and PRAM reset and clean OSX installation.

I expected that the rpm will go up simultaneously with the Cpu temp. Like if the Cpu starts increasing temp (about 70-80C) the fan will kick in...
I know from a friend with a Macbook retina that his fans keep spinning at 3000-4000rpm and always keep the Cpu temp close to 60C. I know that the architecture is diferent but the cooling logic should remain the same. right?
