CPU Voltage

I have a 890FXA-GD70 set-up...it's overclocked to 4.2GHz, just wondering what is the safe range to use. At the moment mine is set at 4.6 and it runs really well and the temp stays around 25 to 28C.
EDIT, CPUZ reports 1.480v.

You are asking an Overclocking question... I'm sure the moderator will move this to: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?board=27.0
Equal equipment does not mean equal results in overclocking. It's a matter of test and trial without overdoing it. Like burning out from overvoltage.
Learn the limit not to exceed. Watch your temps, like you already are. Search forums by your motherboard and/or CPU and see what others have done.
The Overclocking Guide: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=40413.0 is very helpful.
Overclocking is about gain with stability for everyday use or record setting.
Good Luck
Thanks, the box is rock solid-very stable...just wanted to no that info for when I want to push if further to see how far it will go but staying in the safe range while doing so.

  • Problem with CPU Voltage

    Hello
    I build new PC with:
    i5-760
    Noctua NH-D14
    MSI P55-GD65
    G.Skill 2x2GB CL7 ECO
    Antec TruePower New 750W TP-750
    TwinTech GF 9600GT
I have problem with CPU voltage as even when I set it for example to 1.201v in bios, under load it overshot to 1.256-1268. The best is when I oc`ed cpu to 4GHZ and set voltage in bios for 1.30v it overshot for 1.45v+! Not to mention that temps are skyhigh from that. It doesn`t matter if I try to put BIOS Vcore on 1.1v on stock because under load it still rise to 1.16. I turned off all eist, c-state, turbo boost, phase led and switch phase, set vdrop to low and still something is wrong here. I updated the bios under dos from USB stick to newest 1.9 version in order to update CPU micro code without error and it not helped. I want to know is that even possible to fix or should I RMA MB or CPU.
Minor problem is with sysfans as they power on for a second and turn off instantly to start working again when I see list on devices in post. After rebot when my monitor is switched off it takes something like 5 sec to power monitor on and another 5 to show bios, is that normal?

I have similar issues, it's hard to tell which measurement is the most accurate, there are 2 different measurements in the control center that don't match up with the figures set in the bios.  The only way to be sure would be to get an expensive accurate multimeter but If you're only interested in running a stable overclocked computer without knowing the exact figures then get the computer running stable and lower the voltages until it starts to become unstable with prime95,
Or you could work the other way round, set the voltages so it boots but doesn't run prime95 for long, then raise the vcore and vtt one at a time until your happy with the length of time prime95 runs without errors.  I'd be happy with 24 hours, I seem to remember errors creeping in at around the 9 hour mark on the setting below what I have it set to now.

  • How to increase cpu voltage on A75A-G35?

Please tell me how to increase cpu voltage on A75A-G35(I changed pstates in BIOS but voltage not changed!)? and then tell me range of voltage in 1-7 Pstates?
    Thanks.

Q: I cannot adjust the CPU Voltage on my A55/A75 motherboard?
A: Due to a hardware limitation on this platform, you cannot adjust the CPU voltage. However, you can adjust the NB voltage which is the same on this platform.
The NB voltage setting is below the "Advanced DRAM Configuration" and the only way to increase a cpu relating voltage on that board.

  • How to get higher cpu voltage during load when using "auto" with P67A-GD55?

I have a little question regarding cpu voltage: When i set vcore to "auto" i get a nice low voltage when idle but during load i only get 1.264 max and that is to low.
Is there a setting to increase the voltage during load and still have the cpu vcore set to auto?
    Thanks

    P67A-GD55 with 1.8 bios

OK, so you are able to set your CPU voltage manually. You need to consider that the auto voltages will compensate only up to a certain OC level, after which the user usually has to do manual adjustments. This auto compensation differs for each hardware combination. As HU16E suggested, try low VDroop and see if it helps. The other alternative is a BIOS flash, or manual voltage settings.
I tried low vdroop but it didn´t make any difference. But it´s ok, i can set the vcore manually but i was just investigating if i could get the best of both worlds with the powersavings auto vcore offers during idle

  • MSI 945GCM5 V2 how change cpu voltage

I have Dual-Core E2160 VRam CPU voltage 1.3.. its lowest? I dont know where in Bios can this be changed.. because iam on stock 1.8GHz and temp is still 70°C+ in idle. (but in bios its wrote 50°C)

The Alpine 11 is almost as weak as a boxed cooler. It is a most simple all aluminium cooler without any heatpipes that is limited to just 95W TDP max. According to Arctic it cools a i5-2500K 3°C better than the boxed one.
Measure temps under load and in idle with Core Temp and report back.

  • BIOS doesn't change CPU Voltage P55-GD65

    I have a P55-GD65 with BIOS Ver 1.7
No matter what setting I put the the CPU voltage it seems to run in auto only.  I have tried many combination's of settings that I have read on the forums but nothing seems to be working.
    Has anybody had this problem?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Yes even when I have Intel C-STATE and Intel EIST disabled.
The voltage is much lower.  I can't over clock because I cannot up the CPU voltage.  I have the CPU multiplier at 21 and the clock at 155.  If I go even up to 156 on the clock my system will blue screen.
When I put the voltage in Auto and monitor it and then put it in manual and crank it up to 1.45 and monitor it the voltage behaves as it is in auto.  I have XMS 1600 memory and the Mugen B rev 2 cooler so I know that is not an issue.  I might have a defective MB.  I've been building PC's for years so I'm not a newbe.  I've usually used Supermicro boards and this is my first MSI board.  The board is very nice and if it worked it would be great.  I was going to build another system with that board but am a little gun shy now.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • CPU Voltage of 11.7V Why?

    Hi,
today I looked to the command "dmidecode" to visit the cpu voltage. I saw that the voltage is on 11.7V, is that an Error? And the other thing I visited, is that the cpu clock is always on 2.400MHz, but the system utilization is very low (only few % on each thread). Why is that?
This is the output of the command:
        Version: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3517U CPU @ 1.90GHz
        Voltage: 11.7 V
        External Clock: 100 MHz
        Max Speed: 3800 MHz
        Current Speed: 2400 MHz
I hope someone can help me.
    Murmel

You should be using lm-sensors for these data.  Even then, unless someone knowledgeable has verified each voltage output and mapped it to the correct motherboard sensors, you are guessing.  To look at both endpoints, vcore and frequency, try i7z-git from the AUR.  It reads the MSR values directly from the CPU.

  • [915 Series] CPU Voltage and clock multiplier

    The manueal of 915G combo says(page  3-24):
    Adjust CPU Voltage
The settings are used to adjust the CPU clock multiplier(ratio) and CPU core voltage....
I dont know how, and you?
Can anyone explain that to me, please.
    cheers

If the value has a "v" or "X.XX", it'll be the value for setting the CPU voltage as Mutiplier settings only comes in full numeric value like 1, 2, 3, 4... 20 etc.
My guess of why it is being phrased as such is mainly to due the different settings to o/c a system may require a minor increase of the CPU Voltage to keep the whole system to run stablely.

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.

I don't own a Neo2 anymore, although I wish I did. IMO it is THE best s939 AGP board out there. It is good to hear there is some dividers available in the BIOS now too, lol.
Anyway, if you mess with the different CPU voltage settings, you are sure to find a combo that puts it right where you want it. And I measured the vcore directly off of the board with a mm - I don't usually trust apps for that sort of thing when pushing 1.7+ volts into a 90nm or 65nm CPU.
It is also my experience that Ntune should only be used in case of emergency, if all else fails. I have had nothing but problems with that stupid program and I wouldn't touch it again with your PC if I had the choice. If you've got clockgen, A64 Info, and Core Center, you can rule the world.

    Hi There,
I have just updated the flash on my computer thru the LiveUpdate running on windows 2000 (without a floppydisk),... the flash ran thru without error and rebooted,... then i ran thru the BIOS settings and came to Frequency/Voltage Control,... • CPU voltage on Delta-ILSR

Is there anyway configurations, software, etc... to give my CPU more power? 1.8volts will not let me get any higher than 2300 with stability. If not lets all beg MSI to add higher Vcore in next bios  :D

The latest BIOS' 7.3 and 7.4 for the K7N2-ILSR Delta has solved the CPU Voltage prob - I'd imagine that they fixed this prob with new BIOS versions on other K7N2 boards too.

  • A75A-G35 (Llano) no CPU Voltage?!

This MB it really bad. In BIOS, there is no CPU Voltage setting. What does it mean? Only NB and SB Voltage? Completely useless because no OC is possible. I hope they release new bios or do something about that

You call a low-profile board "useless" because it is not suited for overclocking?  When you want overclocking, why did you not buy a board that is not low-profile and actually more suited for overclocking?

  • P6N SLI CPU voltage options

    hi all
I have checked the other P6N SLI posts for this but i was unable to find it. no doubt someone will point me to one but i will ask anyway.
In the cell menu the option for voltage for the CPU is a little confusing to me. My previous asus motherboard had simple voltage settings going up in 0.250v sections, like
    1.250v
    1.275v
    1.300v
they were alot more accurate and smaller but i hope you get my idea.
In my P6N SLI menu, it only gives options like 0.125v and upwards to around 0.300v
I do not get what voltage is what for my CPU. As my CPU is a E6550 its highest voltage is 1.5, how can i know what to select if i were to overclock the thing?
    thanks for anyone who understands.

oh right, so how do i find what my default VID voltage of my CPU is ?
    Intel lists it as
    VID Voltage Range: 0.85V – 1.5V
You can get the VID by downloading and running Core-Temp.  You can leave the CPU voltage at "auto" and the MB will adjust for the correct CPU voltage..you can see approx CPU voltage in bios, under Hardware  Monitoring.

You can only lower it so far before it will begin to act quirky and that can cause all sorts of problems.  I am not sure if you will actually damage your hardware, but you may pooch your OS and be forced to reinstall everything.  It is generally better to lower your multiplier if you are trying to lower power consumption.  What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

    Ok I see...
I'm just trying to lower my CPU temps, but actually I do not know if temp is my problem. I got 2 BSOD while running prime95 with everything at stock. But I remember that when it crashed my CPU temp was around 52C. Isn't that too hot? I do not know...
And one of the times, after the BSOD, I tried to reset the machine and it did not post, giving me beeps and leds saying "memory problem"...
( I was having this exact beeps and leds problem EVERYTIME I tried to turn on the machine, but I had a low amps PSU. After I changed to this one in my sig, everything started to work fine, until this...  )
    Any ideas please?

  • Adjustable CPU voltage at MSI KM4M-V

    Hi folks,
I'm building a low-noise computer based on a µATX mobo.
The BiostarMSI KM4M-V looks pretty interesting.
I need SATA-controller onboard, AMD Athlon XP-M support,
changeable multi and decreasable CPU voltage at the bios.
Does anybody has this board or even knows whether it provides
    the features showing above.
    thanks

I heard it does support it.  I got a similar version motherboard K4MAMV and I've only had it for 5 days.  I certainly dont recommended it.  Either I got a broken one from the shop or its a dud model.  I've tried three different VGA card and also the onboard video.  I can't get the damn thing to work as it should.  It fails to play any mpeg smoothly, it will be totally pixilated and not even viewable.  The onboard sound is awful, picks up more noise static than audio.  I'm not getting much feedback from MSI...  I've just wasted some $, I guess that what you get for cheap good.  I'm out to get another type.
