CPUZ REPORTING FULL SPEED ALL THE TIME, help ?
I have cpuz 1.52.2, its constantly reporting that my cpu is running at full speed, it didnt used to be like this, and ive not even been doing anything at all in the bios for months, so i know its not the bios to blame.
I have a dual boot system, with windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and windows xp pro.
As i say, i cant remember seeing this issue happen before, so i dont know whats the cause, ive even tried lowering the power saving levels in windows control panel, but that dont appear to do anything either, unless iam doing it the wrong way.
Can someone help me please as i have this vision in my mind that with my overclocked cpu running at full speed constantly that its not doing it any good.

i have always had turbo boost enabled, so that way the speed should go up and down, i know as ive been tracking it before.

Thanks for your thoughts. Yup, I'm starting to think this is just one of those things and I need to swap for something with passive cooling. The mac fans seem to be fine although there have been moments when they decide to have a mad minute or two. I think the card next to the graphics card (digidesign core card) is not going to help. Was previously pretty acceptable at normal monitoring levels with the 5200 Nvidia but now you can hear the machine over conversation levels which is tedious. Was thinking about moving the machine to another room or get a quiet rack to house everything but it might be easier to use the cash for a Magma chassic and use my Powerbook. Or stop using Protools and go for Logic? lol! .....
So, anyone want to swap an X800 for a 9600? Ebay, here we come ...

Fan runs at full speed all the time
The fan on my brand new iMac 17" runs at full speed all the time, creating an unbearable amount of noise. The activity monitor shows 99% spare time, i.e. nothing much is running.
I updated all software, checked the firmware version (it was the latest already) and performed an SMC reset. I also unplugged it for several hours, as some people have suggested.
I downloaded smcFanControl and it says that the ODD fan is running at 5200 rpm all the time. The CPU and HDD fans seem to run at normal speeds. smcFanControl also reports a cool 39 deg.
Does anyone have any idea of what to try to fix this problem?I don't have a solution but thought I'd add a computer that showed the same behaivor.
A 20" iMac I was configuring for my company did the same thing, but just once so far. I used it briefly just out of the box and didn't have any problems. It's a stock install of OS X 10.4.8, no other software installed. Turned it on several days later and the fans ran during the 2 hours I used it to run Safari via Airport. I turned if off after it started to smell like hot electrical components. Activity monitor looks completely normal. After shutting it off for two hours, unplugging and re-plugging AC and keyboard, it came back on with no fans. I did not do the SMC reset or any updates between the power cycle.

15 " MBP C2D fans running at full speed all the time

just purchased new MBP C2D 15 inch, the fans are running all the time at full speed (or at least sound noisy).
i know there were several updates on earlier machines but none for this one that i can see.
SMC Version: 1.12f5.

thanksA very reasonable thought although it's clearly not DOA. Nor do we know whether it was bought as a CTO or not. The requirements for classing a system DOA are very clear and this system, while possibly not operating correctly, certainly is not a DOA.
I would however make every effort to determine the cause of the problem. Potentially the issue can be caused through software and no fault of Apple. Being able to quantify an issue does go a long way to resolving it. -
Problem: Fan at full speed all the time - even when the Mac is turned off

my Mac mini suffers from a very strange problem. I've had it for half a year now and recently bought a new power adaptor since my old one got damaged. I plugged it in and everything was fine - until half an hour afterwards, when the fan suddenly made itself noticeable at full speed. But it didn't stop; it went on, curiously even when I shut the Mac mini down. That's right. even when the system's turned off. The noise is really unbearable and only stops when I plug off the power cord.
Any ideas why this is happening?My Mini started doing this yesterday. I came home from work and the fan was going full blast. Even after shutting the machine down, the fan would continue to run at full speed (and it is LOUD...much louder than my full tower desktop PC with 4 80mm fans). The only way to stop the fan is to completely unplug the Mini from the power supply.
I doubt that this is due to faulty wiring as my Mini is plugged in to a very nice UPS unit that conditions the power.
Now, I'm willing to admit that this may be entirely my fault since I have upgraded my Mini with 1 GB of RAM, a Pioneer DVD burner, and a higher capacity hard drive. However, the Mini has been running 24-hours-a-day for 5-6 months since my final upgrade, so it would seem that my upgrades are unrelated to this issue. Also, since someone else is having the same problem, again, my upgrades seem unrelated.
I was told on another forum to try resetting the PMU, which I will try when I get home today. If it works, I'll post. Seems unlikely though since the fan runs even when the Mini is powered down.
If anyone has any other ideas, I'd be glad to hear them. I'm assuming that my Mini is no longer under the 1-year warranty since I have performed so many upgrades myself, so, if this problem is something that can only be fixed by Apple, then it will probably cost an arm and a leg. -

Apologies if this has been answered before - I tried to use the search but to no avail!
Anyway, I recently purchased an X800 and installed in my G5 1.8DP (OS X 10.4.9) with the intention of having something to drive my shiney new 30" Cinema display. All booted fine and, in glorious wide-o-vision, I spent the next 30 mins playing with all of this extra screen real-estate. At that point, I started to notice that things were not as quiet as I'd initially anticipated. In fact, the amount of fan noise was so high that I'm not going to be able to use the new card as the machine is part of a project recording studio installation. Doh! So, a quick trawl of the ATI web site lead me to the ROM updates claiming to address fan speed control. Update to the most recent version of the ROM and no change. Similarly, I've installed the most recent version of teh ATI control panel. Odd as other people seem to be saying that they're not experiencing the same problem. And strangely, the GFX card fan runs at a low "normal" speed in Safe Boot mode whilst installing the ROM updates.
Any ideas what to do next? It would be great to get this working but I'm kinda stuck. Otherwise, it's to ebay with the X800 and time to find a 9600 which has passive cooling.
Any help would be gratefully received.

My left side fan is running at full speed all the time. I have downloaded free fan speed control app but does not help. Any advise
Fan Control Apps/Utilities generally can only raise the speed of the fans and not lower them.
Disable, turn off or uninstall whatever Fan Control that you installed and reset the SMC.

Then if the iMac's fan is still running fast, you probably have a loose sensor cable or bad thermal sensor and the iMac needs to be taken into service

I have an iMac 20inch with 8GB RAM and its an i3 intel processor. I purchased it from a friend of mine who had replaced the original hard drive with another that amounts to a terabyte. Now the fans are running at full speed all the time making it way too noisy to work with. It however works smoothly with no problems except the fans are irritating, it does not heat up though. Anyone with a solution? I tried resseting the SMC it didnt work.
`Oh and the computer is running on Mavericks.

The problem would seem to be in the firewall in your router. Have you tried disabling it? I assume you've updated the router firmware, right? Consider bypassing the ISP provided router (using it as a modem only) and unsing another device such as an Aiport Express.

Mail and Safari still freeze all the time-help
Even with the latest Mavericks updates, Apple mail and Safari freeze contstantly to the point that I can't send email or use Safari. I had after the initial mavericks release gotten mail to function by shutting off 2 Gmail accounts I had on my MacPro. After the update that supposedly fixed the Gmail issues, I turned on my Gmail accounts and Mail started freezing almost immediately on startup. Was able to get in and shut the accounts don again, but Mail keeps freezing. I even removed the Gmail accounts from Mail prefs, but that didn't help either. I can usually get Mail to launch and for the most part can read email, but if I try to respond, once i type and email and try to send, Mail freezes and I have to force quit. Once Mail hangs Safari hangs shortly thereafter or if it's not even launched I can't launch.
I have been using macs for a long time and have never had such a bad time with an upgrade. Have tried most of the solutions posted, and am baffled as to how to make things work.

I would rip the drive out of this, erase it, and put it in another (non-WD) enclosure, smash the WD enclosure to bits with a sledgehammer, and mail it back to WD.

Mac mini Intel Core Duo fan very loud and runs at high speed all the time.
I purchased an "Open box" Mac mini Intel Core Duo, 1.66Ghz, 2G ram, 80G HD and SD a few days ago from Fry's.
It runs beautifully except the fan is very loud compared to any Mac my family has ever had. It is so loud that we were thinking of putting it under the desk.
The fan runs constantly, and I mean all the time, at a high speed. You can really feel the air coming out the exhaust vents. The case is always cool to the touch as is the exhaust air.
My aunt bought a similar Mac mini (But only 512Mb ram) the same day. Her's is very quiet. The case feels just slightly warm, not unlike other Mac mini's I've seen.
Should my Mac mini's fan be running this way?

BTW: The "open box" was sealed with a Fry's label and it said that this had a new warranty. Yet, checking the serial number, it said that it had about 260 days left. I guess Fry's is backing it?
Also, someone told me that perhaps the main wire from the fan to the logic board is disconnected.

eMac 1Ghz, iBook 500 dual usb, Mac mini 1.66Ghz Intel Core Duo 2g ram Mac OS X (10.4.8)Since you have 2 gigs of memory, my thoughts are that when the party (Fry's or the origianl purchaser) upgraded the memory, they neglected to reattach the wire at the front of the Mini under the IR receptor at the right front corner that regulates the fan speed. This wire must be unattached in order to upgrade the memory, and is probably why the original person brought it back, because of the fan noise resulting from failing to reattach the wire. If that wire is left unattached, the fan runs continually at high speed to protect the CPU and system in general. If you do not want to use a putty knife to open the Mini, take it back to Fry's and ask someone who is Mac savvy to open it and reattach the small plastic receptacle at the end of the wire into its socket at the right front of the machine. When I go to Fry's, I am always concerned because the employees allow people to pry keys off of the Apple notebooks, so don't expect that their employees to know or care about anything Mac.

Time capsule makes me redo a full update all the time
i have the last macbook they made..like the late 2011 model i think they call it and when i upgraded to Yosemite, it will say a lot that the back up failed and i have to erase the time capsule disk and do a full back up from start. do you think there is something wrong with the hdd in the tc? is there a way to do a hardware test on it. i can't find anything online about this. thanks for looking
If you have seen that message more than 2-3 times, it is highly likely that the hard drive is physically damaged.
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to test it, and if it is damaged....which is highly likely....no way to repair it.
You would have to pull the drive from the Time Capsule, place it in a special USB to SATA converter, and run Disk Utility to take a look at the drive. A lot of work....and probably not worth the time and effort.
Best bet is to replace the Time Capsule or buy another hard drive and connect it directly to your Mac. -
Fans running at high speed all the time

I still haven't found a fix for full throttle fans at start up and session on my imac 11,3 mid-2010, 27", 2.8Ghz, i5 since Mavricks installed.
CPU temp 72 degrees F, CPU fan 3992 rpm, optical drive fan 3589 rpm, CPU usage <2%. Installed boot rom 1M112.0057.B01 is the latest version available.
Resetting PRAM & SMC don't work. As with others with mid-2010, 27" macs running 10.9, AHT does not work with the D key or the Option/D keys, so no hardware test.
Worked fine with 10.8.
If someone has a working solution, please let me know. Otherwise I will have to wait for Apple to release a fix. The fan noise is extremel annoying.
ThanksI hate to say this but 72º F for the CPU is not hot. Did you have a hard drive replaced recently?
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem. -

ITunes Shuts Down Over Microsoft Windows Error ALL the time - Help
I've never had this problem until ITunes 7 (and I've had an Ipod for 4 years), but now 1 out of 3 times that I open ITunes, it crashes and shuts down after I get a Microsoft error message - some unexplained problem which I've let Microsoft know about through an error report several times, but they haven't done anything I'm aware of. Sometimes this happens when I've been using Itunes for a while as well - very frustrating. Had anyone else experienced this, and is there a remedy? Thanks!

Blank Screen and Fan on High Speed all the time
We have a TouchSmart PC 300-1000z (Aw021AV#aba) Windows 7 Home 64bit.
This morning the screen was blank and the CPU fan was stuck on high. It will not throttle down at all. We have to press and hold the power button to get the machine to power down.
I can't see anything on the screen so I can trouble shoot it. I did remove the back panels and so forth to dust it with a can of compressed air.
Any thoughts on this?

When you boot the computer is the screen completely black or do you see the boot logo screen show up and then the screen go black?
