    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Recovery Disk wont work for new Hard drive.

I have a HP Pavilion dv5-2132dx with windows 7 64-bit. Recently a message started popping up warning that the hard drive might fail and I need to back up my data. I decided to buy a new hard drive. The hard drive a bought is 320GB SATA 7200RPM by western digital. It is the same brand and model as the hard drive currently in the computer. I popped in the new hard drive and inserted the recovery disks I bought from HP. The computer goes through the whole process of istalling the disks. However, on the final setup it shows the welcome screen. Then u hear a beep and then the screen goes black with a message saying that windows could not install and to try installing it again. I have done this 3 times and its always the same thing. Is this a Hard drive issue or a software issue and how can i get this to work?

    Hi,
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
Assuming that this is just a problem with the Recovery process, there is a straight forward work around.
Create a retail Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image from the link below ( this must be the exact version your notebook came with ) and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

  • Process for new hard drive

    Hi everyone,
I was hoping somebody could point me to some tutorials for upgrading the hard drive in my PowerBook G4 (1Ghz).
I own an external drive (usb only) that is the same size as the drive in my PB (80gb), this is what I'd use to back up my hard drive (I could borrow a larger drive from work if necessary).
What is the best process for backing up? Should I use Carbon Copy? I already have Retrospect Express.
How can I make sure that I won't need to reinstall all my 3rd party apps (ex; iLife, Photoshop)? Would all of this be ported over when I copy my old hard drive over to the new hard drive?
What is the best process for copying the backed up/copied hard drive to the new hard drive? Won't I need to reinstall Tiger first? Then run updates?
    Thanks for the help!

"What is the best process for backing up? Should I use Carbon Copy? I already have Retrospect Express."
I just replaced my drive, I used SuperDuper, it worked flawlessly, a major first for me since using OS X. I swear I'm not from that company, but it made a perfect bootable disk, important since I was swapping drives directly after copying data via USB to external enclosure. Had drive duplication problems prior, carbon copy was a no-go for me, to complicated, something not right w/ the updates, i forget what, it has been a while, just remember I was forced to reinstall apps.
Should have gotten a firewire enclosure, could have tested it first w/ target mode, oh well.

  • How do you set Automatic Acoustic Management (AAM) for new Hard Drive?

I have a new hard drive that I'm about to have installed into my iMac. The drive is a WD1001FALS (Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB). The only concern I have is that by all accounts it is a bit louder than some other drives, although everything being relative I don't know what that means to me since I've not heard it run yet.
Still, the 320GB drive currently in the iMac is absolutely inaudible and while I'll make some concessions for speed and size I'd like to minimize the amount of noise coming out of the box. I know that the drive supports Automatic Acoustic Management (AAM), however its default state is "disabled". Is there a way, either through the OS or third party software to enable this feature?

I just wanted to close out this question.
I never received a clear answer but in the end I don't need to use the function. My concern was that a new WD1001FALS would be louder than the OEM 320GB HDD in my iMac to the point that I wouldn't be happy with it. Not wanting to trade speed for quiet I passed on the Green caviar and went for the Black. After living with it for several weeks I can say that it is very quiet and while I don't know if it's measurably louder than the old drive, it's not enough for me to notice (and I'm pretty picky).
So, I'm happy with the drive as-is, case closed.

  • Need Win 7 recovery discs for new hard drive

I am not sure which Windows 7 Operating system my laptop had, but I need the recovery discs to put Windows 7 back on my HP dv6-6167cl notebook.
My original issue was that my notebook was unable to restore or anything on its own.  After calling HP support and performing a guided diagnostics test, it was determined that my hard drive was bad.  I purchased a new hard drive and replaced it, but need to get Windows 7 back on it.
    Thanks!

  • Why can't i click on repair disk for my hard drive in disk utility?

I have an iMac from 2010 and when I went to install the new OS (Yosemite) I got stuck in the screen where the install couldn't be verified.  I opened up disk utility and when I went to verify my Mac HD.  The verify failed and I got a popup window that said the disk needed to be repaired and to click on "repair disk".  However the repair disk button is not lighting up and there's no way for me to click it.  Everything else that I could verify was fine, the only thing that had a problem was the hard drive.  Does someone know if there's anyway I can repair it?  Please help, I haven't been able to use my computer for days now!

Try booting from the recovery partition and seeing if you can repair the disk drive from there.

  • Acer recovery disk on new hard drive do not start.

Hi, my hard drive from my Acer Aspire M7721 , Winsdows 7 home prem OA crashed.I do have the recovery DVD made when i bought the pc.I have bought a same size hard drive and tried to use the recovery dvd's, but they do not start. On a forum it was written that these dvd's need to use a partition on the old (dead) drive and that the only solution was to download a iso copy from digital river software. The installation went all right and key was accepted, but after 2 days this MS warning came that the key was not accepted for activation.  I went to the register process and had a talk with a operator who said it was not possible to use this key and the only solution was to buy a new product.  Is there ANY way i will be able to use my recovery disks to get my 'own' windows 7 back, and use they key which came with the PC?I have as well a Ghost image which i made after all the updates were installed. (Hiren Boot 9.8). I tried to recover from the ghost image which just gave a error.  Thanks,Pia

This thread is almost a year old.  So at the risk of poor forum etiquette,  I'll give a few things to try if anyone else is experiencing this problem.   From what I've read, this is not an Acer specific issue.  It can happen on any computer brand or with any HDD or SSD.  It's not necessarily a BIOS specific issue either as I believe it can happen with all the major BIOS providers. Here's a short list of things to try that not only have worked for me, but others have also reported as fixes. To get things working it's usually some combination of the following.  In all cases, you'll want to make sure that you only have the problem HDD/SSD connected to the computer.  All other drives should be disconnected. 1.  Using "diskpart clean" (which will wipe the drive and should put it in uninitialized state and in the same condition as it was when it came from the SSD/HDD factory.)  This may have to be done more than once. 2. Shutdown the computer (this may have to be done more than once).  Shutting down the computer doesn't mean pulling the power cord.  It means gracefully/properly shutting down the computer using USB tools on a recovery drive. 3. Unplug the computer from the electrical outlet after its been gracefully shutdown.  And wait anywhere from 2 minutes to 30 minutes. 4. Unplug the SATA power cable. 5.  Unplug the SATA data cable. 6.  Turn on the computer with only the SATA power cable connected, but not the SATA data cable. 7.  Shutting down the computer and then unplugging it from electrical outlet. 8.  Turning on the computer with both SATA power cable and SATA data cable connected. There's various reports across the internet in different forums about using some combination of the steps above.  You may not need to use all of the steps or you may need to use a certain step more than once.  Since most of the threads that describe the fixes are from average users, in most cases they aren't going back to try and reproduce the issue to narrow down which step(s) actually fixed the problem.

  • How to make a boot disk for new iMac?

I just purchased a new iMac equipped with a bare bones 1TB SATA hard drive.  I want to replace that disk with a 1TB SSD from Crucial (less than 1/2 of the cost of purchasing the iMac with the SSD).  I have a Time machine backup of the iMac on a Time Machine/Airport device; how do I make a boot disk that can get the OS up and running, and able to restore the backup from the Time Machine?
    Thanks,

I had not given the warranty issue any prior thought; thanks for pointing that out.  Is there a way around the warranty issue; such as a "factory authorized" way to install it, that is feasible?
    Thanks for the quick response...
    TD
You can take it an AASP to have the install done however you probably would be better off returning the machine (assuming it was bought directly from Apple and is less than 14 days old) and buy the configuration you want. Even if an AASP does install the SSD there is no guarantee Apple will honor the warranty, it's 100% at their discretion.

  • How do I boot from a new hard drive?

I have a 15" MacbookPro (pretty much stock) that I purchased new in Jan. 2012.  I had to replace the hard drive and just got the new drive installed.  Now I need a disc with an OS on it to boot from to get it all working again.  I originally had OS X Lion, but now that they've upgraded to Mountain Lion I can't find anyplace to download Lion.  It was preinstalled so it didn't come with a disc.  And I have another mac running OS X 10.6... should I make a boot disc from that? and how would I do that?  Or do I need to do Lion since my computer was orginally registered with that verson of OS X?  Any ideas on what is the most logical step would be helpful.  Thank you.

Oh this is on a NEW drive. You have to Partition and format it before you can install the OS.
Once booted from the Internet Recovery system open Disk Utility and select the drive makers name and or model number of the drive, the top most listing in the left hand side of DU, then select the Partition Tab.
From the Partition Layout section select one partition from the drop down list. Make the name Macintosh HD and the format Mac Extended (Journaled) then click the Apply button.
Once that is done exit DU and Reinstall Mac OS X.

  • Why can I not boot from my new hard drive?

After replacing my hard drive (40 Gb) with a larger (120 Gb) drive the computer will not boot. I can boot from the 10.4 system CD and have managed to install the system without problems, but after restarting the computer I only get to see a folder with a flashing question mark in it.
My computer is the first of the Titanium series (400 Mhz). The hard drive is a Seagate momentus 5400 rpm. Is there a compatibility issue here? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
    PowerBook G4/400 Titanium   Mac OS X (10.4)

Hi, StenErik. If I were you, I would forget about FireWire Target Disk Mode. I'd start the Powerbook from a retail OS X 10.4 installer DVD, open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, select the hard drive, reformat it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", check the box for installing OS 9 drivers, and then install Tiger. I can't explain why this should make the resulting installation any different from what you have installed now. But it seems to me there must be some detail you've failed to mention and we've failed to think of, and that detail, whatever it is, is much more significant than it seems: significant enough to prevent your Tibook from booting. Therefore, reverting to the most basic installation procedure possible, with as few external variables as possible, seems a useful thing to try. To minimize variables even further, disconnect all peripherals from the PB while reformatting and installing.
As Hardy has suggested, the size of your drive is not the issue. A 120GB drive should be fine.

  • Recommendations for new hard drive

It looks like I will have to replace my hard drive--If I want to get one myself does anyone know of a good brand--I have a Gateway laptop that is 1 1/2 yrs old and it has 120 gb--
    Thanks for the advice--

You will need to determine which type of drive you have in your Gateway laptop.  It's either an "EIDE" or a "Serial ATA" drive.  If your drive is crashed, you will not be able to tell from Control Panel/Hardware/Devices which type it is.  Typically, laptop hard drives on newer (less than 3 years old) are fairly cumbersome to remove.  It may actually require taking the case apart to get to the drive.  You will need the manufacturer and model number.  It may say EIDE or SATA on the case of the drive.
If you reply here with the model of the laptop, I can look online for you.
When you determine the form factor of the drive (SATA, EIDE) you should look for either a Western Digital, Maxtor or Segate drive.  Here are some links to the drives on the BB website.
    Western EIDE
    Western Digital SATA
Both are around $80.00 and are 250GB.
Good luck and let me know if I can help you with researching the drive.

    backdrop001,
You can install the new HD, and run the recovery from the disks. That creates a new, out of the box experience. It does not have access to a Recovery partition (that was on the old drive). Don't ask, it can not be done. (Copy the partition).
The clone process creates a full working drive with all your programs and data intact.
The old drive can be cloned onto the new drive. I did it with a Seagate 250GB to a Seagate 1T without ANY problem.
The Seagate Disk Wizard has an intensive manual and instruction file.

  • Why does installation cd not work for new hard drive for 2009 MacBook pro?

my hard drive died in my 2009 MacBook pro so I bought a 1tb ssd drive and had the store physically install the drive only.   I arrived home and stuck in the original installation disc and pressed and held the c key after the chime. Nothing happened. after a minute or so the screen turned black and rebooted up again with the chime.  It would continue to reboot whether I pressed the c key or not. when i pressed the d key it would say:
"Apple hardware test does not support this machine"
why why isn't this working like it is supposed to?
    thsnks

    Ryan,
Have you tried using the Startup Manager (holding down the option key) whilst booting? If everything works as it should, you should be given the option to choose the DVD to boot. Holding down the 'D' key should load the Apple Hardware Test.
    Good luck,
