Cq60-211dx

I have a Compaq Presario CQ60-211DX Notebook PC and never created the original recovery disc when I got it, is there anyway to create one now?

Hi,
If you have never created a set of Recovery Discs and you can still boot into Windows, you should still be able to create them - see the guide Here.
If for any reason this doesn't work, you can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00810334&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
Regards,
DP-K

  • Broken display, Presario CQ60-211DX

My kid walked away from the computer with the power cord wrapped around his leg. The computer fell off the table and the screen hit the edge of a wooden chair on the way to the floor. Now it looks like a broken window (a jagged line across the screen) with bright screen-like colors above the line, black beneath. So basically the display is physically wrecked.  Ruughly how much would a replacement screen cost, how would we get it done, etc? Or would we be better off tossing it and buying a whole new machine? Or would the warranty cover this at all?
The computer is a Presario CQ60-211DX Notebook he's had for all of 6 weeks.
    Thanks

The only warranty that would cover it is a physical damage insurance plan. If you bought the enhanced warranty through a retailer that coverage might apply and I think HP also offers it and you would remember if you bought it because it is very very salty. The standard warranty does not cover it at all. Now, the repair. The price of screens has come down quite a bit in the last couple years. Here is one on eBay for about $130:
    $130 eBay screen
That is about the average price we are seeing now where it was $250 not too long ago.
I have not replaced a CQ60 screen but even the dv9000, its direct ancestor, and a very difficult one to work on, was manageable for an amateur to replace the screen. We can get you the Service Manual and it is maybe a 45 minute job. If you ever built a model as a kid, can turn a screwdriver carefully and can follow plans you can do it. Otherwise, the labor is likely to be another $125 or so at a computer shop. The best way to do it is to get the screen then start calling around for the best price and tell them you already have the screen. You do want to remove the old one first as it is better to find the screen by the model of the screen rather than the model of the laptop because so many makers now use the same exact screens so you can do a broader search. Once you remove the old one you will see it is not too hard to put the new one back in.
Even worst case at $250 or so with labor it is far cheaper than a new laptop. Just don't let people tell you it is going to be $400 or so, which you will hear.

  • Compaq Presario CQ60-211dx - Windows XP Sounds Are Low Pitched

I know I'm going to get replies saying to upgrade my OS from Windows XP.
I have a Compaq Presario CQ60-211dx running Windows XP Professional 32 bit. The system sounds are kind of low pitched. Let's say the system audio is at C but my sound is at B flat. It's starting to become kind of annoying, because I don't really like sounds that are off tone. Also whenever I close and open the lid on the laptop, the sounds just don't work, until I restart the laptop. I have Conexant HD Smartaudio 221.
    Anyone help?

    Hi @darkness12445
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having sound quality issues. I am happy to assist. When I looked up your notebook I found that there were no drivers for XP on the support page, which would mean it was not sold configured for XP. So the drivers you are using would not have been customized to be compatible with the other standard devices in this series of notebooks. That may be part of the problem.
    But for now...

  • Presario CQ60 211DX sound disabled after lid closed?

Installed XP a few weeks ago on Presario CQ60 211DX, everything's fine, but when I close the lid and it goes to sleep, the sound is disabled when I start it back up. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    Download audio driver from here.
Intructions how to install it in XP.
    Extract this driver with Winrar.
Open Device manager and expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
Right click on Either the High Definition Audio Device if you have the generic Microsoft drivers, or the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 if you have older Conexant drivers and choose "Update Driver Software..."
Click Browse my computer for driver software, then click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Click "Have Disk..." then Browse to the folder where the drivers were extracted  .......\XP32 for 32-bit XP. Click OK.
Select one of the "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221" models in the list, there will be multiple identical entries.
    Click Next, and you're done.
I'm not sure which one from the list will work for You. On CQ60 few users confirmed then first one worked for them.

Hello. Am running a windows vista home basic. Also my realtek high definition Audio disappeared, and now i have conexant high definition audio as my default audio driver. Please, anyone with useful solution should help me out. thank you.

Hi. I have the same problem. Have you been able to fix this?

  • CQ60-211DX - wires pulled from mounting clips

While upgrading my laptop, I had difficulties unplugging two - 4 pin clips from the motherboard. One clip cracked and wires came out of both clips.
The two clips are 1) the Caps Lock cable (to the right rear)  and the Antenna cables (front left).
    Can these be replaced?
    Thanks!

    Here is the Service Manual:
    Manual
Please either post pictures of the damage or describe it with reference to pages in the Manual. If any of the clips on the motherboard are damaged I am afraid it means a new motherboard but if only the cables are damaged the repairs will be less expensive.

  • I cant recover my computer to normal factory settings because of not genuine windows 7

    1. 2CE9135QF4
    NB049UA#ABA
    2. not genuine windows 7... before that windows vista
    4. i downloaded windows 7.
    5. i cant restore back to windows vista, my recovery disk is empty but it says its full. it laggs to much and i think it fryed my video card

Here are the specs for your Compaq Presario CQ60-211DX Notebook Computer. According to the specs your system shipped with Windows Vista Home Basic SP1. HP states in its Upgrading to Windows 7 FAQs, that you should create a set of HP system recovery discs before upgrading the OS. If a problem occurs during the upgrade process, you can use the recovery discs to return your computer back to its original software configuration. Your recovery disk (partition) is most likely near full but the folders and files are hidden. It is likely that the link to the recovery partition was removed from your system during the upgrade to Windows 7. This HP Recovery Manager Installer Patch may help, if you did an upgrade and not a custom or clean install.
Did you create a set of HP Recovery Discs??? If not, you will need to order a set from HP.
Did you purchase a Genuine Windows 7 installation disc with COA and product key??? If not, you will need to purchase a Genuine copy of Windows 7 from Microsoft or a retailer.

  • How do I recover files backed up to an external USB drive during a system recovery operation?

After restoring my system, I began rebuilding the file system. I am on a Vista (Home) based Presario laptop (CQ60-211DX) When I attempted to recover the files, I backed up to an external USB drive, I ran into a problem.
I have been unable to find a way to restore the backup using either the BIOs based utilities of the Windows Backup and Restore programs. The backup exists on the drive, I already confirmed it's presence on the drive.
Does anyone have an idea how to go about this? THe article listed on the HP support forum does not work.

    Hello RalphR_MI,
Take a look at this page, which lists several articles.  Please let me know if any of these help you restore your backup.
Also, take a look at this article, as well as this one.
I hope this helps.  I'm not sure of a few things, so I'm sorry for sending you so much, but I'm confident it will give you something new to try.
Please let me know if this helps.  Good luck!

  • Display driver recovery error for Compaq notebook

I have a compaq notebook - CQ60)-211DX , P/N NBO49UA originally with Windows Vista. I've sinced upgraded to Windows 7, 32 bit. I'm needing to find the right Display driver to upload. I'm getting display recovery errors. I've tried windows fix it and I also tried to extend the registry timer but didn't know which registry to open and save.

    Hello Ervinredeye50,
I understand you are looking for an updated display driver, is that correct? I will be happy to help you.
From what shows currently available on the HP.com, site this driver is the most recent one available. I am not sure which one you currently have installed but this the most recent one that HP has  released for your make and model.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

  • Success story with Compaq CQ40 laptop (full A/V support)?

    Hi all!
Anyone got success story with the HP/compaq CQ40 (-304AX) laptop or the individual components?
Here is the spec of my laptop:
    - CPU: AMD Athlon X2 QL-64 2100MHz (dual-core)
    - RAM: 3GB (DDR2-800)
    - Video: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 / 256MB RAM
    - Audio: IDT 92HD71B7 @ ATI SB700
    - HD: SATA-2 / SAMSUNG HM500JI / 500GB
    - CD: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633A SATA DVD-RW
And the followings are what I need:
    1.External HDMI output
2.Full 3D acceleration i.e. same performance as on windows (I know nvidia cards can.....)
3.GPU-accelerated h.x264/blu-ray playing (utilizing ATI UVD)
    4.Sound output
    5.DVD writing
    6.Running skype, oracle 10gand wine/games
I tried arch x64 two weeks ago, and got frustrated with various weird problems (not all are hw-related)
Here are my own experiences last week:
    (1,2,3) Video driver problems: (UNRESOLVED)
    * ati-radeon fails on HDMI - after x ends, it would return to console with main monitor off (though I can still type blindly to enter x again)
    * catalyst driver 10.2 with xorg 10.4 can't close laptop screen
    * ati-radeonhd works with HDMI output but no 3d accel and 2d accel appears very slow (for switching chrome tabs - which should be instant)
    (4) Audio driver problems: (RESOLVED FINALLY)
    * ALSA: volume too small, no hardware mixing.... i hate dmix
    * OSS: works perfect after changing the output channels(?) and re-attach vmix
    (5) DVD writing: untested.... anyone got it working?
    (6) no official skype for 64-bit , oracle 10g x64 not installing (missing 32-bit libs), wine: direct3d failed immediately with catalyst driver (but native 3d games did work)
BTW should I just install 32-bit arch? Is there improvement I can get by installing 64-bit version?

I have a Compaq Presario CQ60-211DX, exact look as yours, but completely different under the hood. (32-bit, 2GB ram, intel graphics, everything works well).
Anyway, answering your question about Arch 32 bit vs Arch 64 bit, you should use Arch64 if you plan to use more than 3GB of ram.

  • Blank screen after CPU upgrade for CQ60-119 series

    Hi all.
    The model:
I recently decide to upgrade my Compaq Presario CQ60-119TU purchased in 2008.
    The upgrades:
My son will use it to play some games on it. Yes I know - it only has an integrated 4500M graphics chip - but this should be fine for Spore.
Apart from changing from 2 to 4Gb of Ram I will swap out the 250Gb to a 640Gb hard drive. The CPU is also being swapped out.
Existing CPU: Intel Celeron T1600 (1M Cache, 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
Replacement CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (6M Cache, 2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
The laptop manual states this CPU as the best spec'ed replacement CPU I can put in the laptop.
Prior to this I upgraded to the lated bios which is F.65. All was working well with the T1600 at this time.
    Problem:
After replacing the CPU and pressing the power button the laptop boots up briefly for a couple of seconds and then powers off for a couple of seconds. It reboots and stays on (CPU fan is running) but there is nothing on the screen at any time.
If I replace the old CPU and the machine boots up with the screen displaying text  so video  appears not to be the issue (well ...not broken at least)
Any suggestions on how to get this CPU to work or is the CPU defective? Thanks in advance.

Have a look here and you'll see that having the wrong mobo northbridge chipset (not compatible with the FSB of the processor) will cause the T9600 not to work. If you have the GL40 chipset forget trying to get this processor to work with your existing motherboard. If you have the GM45 chipset then your issue is probably something else.
Don't know what your chipset is? Download the free utiliy CPU-Z and run it.
FYI - The same model motherboard with the GM45 chipset is a 485219-001.

  • HP Compaq Presario CQ60-320sa vista product key fade.

Hello help me please- HP Compaq Presario CQ60-320sa
I got HP Compaq Presario CQ60-320sa and the window vista product key is fade. I can read first, second and last.
Now my earlier hard disk got crashed because of bad sector and I have to installed new one which I did now I want window vista product key for activation and the sticker back of my laptop cover is fade can't read all product key. If I download HP- USB RECOVERY FLASH DISK UTILITY does this software let me reset my laptop to factory version and won't ask me for product key. Thank you for your time.

I understand you need a product key.
An HP recovery should have Vista already activated with the product key for the system.  Do you have access to recovery media for this system (disks or a USB recovery drive)?  If you can perform an official HP recovery, there shouldn't be a need to get the product key off the bottom of the notebook.  The utility you mentioned only creates the media from the recovery partition on supported systems. Since the HDD was replaced due to a failure, I am afraid that the flash disk utility will not be of use as the recovery partition is not present on replacement HDDs.
Some users have had success with contacting Microsoft regarding the unreadable product key.  They might be worth a try.
According to this page, the HP part number for the recovery kit for this system is 515724-031.  You might be able to find the appropriate recovery disk set from a third party ensuring the part number matches.  You might want to verify with HP that the recovery disks are not available from HP before using a third party source.
