CQ60-417DX display

I have a Presario CQ 60-417DX with display issues. The display would only work in the vertical posistion,ie when tipped back or forward the screen would not have a picture. I replaced the display and this did not cure the problem.
The next steps I took were to replace the invertor board and the LCD video cable. I replaced them but now the laptop only works with a remote (external) monitor. I have rechecked the connections and they seem ok. Any ideas?

Hey bambles,
I am not sure why the display is not working. Here is the Compaq Presario CQ60 Notebook PC HP G60 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide, on page 4-24 are the instructions for changing the display. Could I get you to double check the steps to ensure that nothing was missed.
If this does not resolve your issue then please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link to get the support number for your region. Contact HP Worldwide
I hope this information helps, please keep me posted.
Best of luck and have a great day.

  • Broken display, Presario CQ60-211DX

My kid walked away from the computer with the power cord wrapped around his leg. The computer fell off the table and the screen hit the edge of a wooden chair on the way to the floor. Now it looks like a broken window (a jagged line across the screen) with bright screen-like colors above the line, black beneath. So basically the display is physically wrecked.  Ruughly how much would a replacement screen cost, how would we get it done, etc? Or would we be better off tossing it and buying a whole new machine? Or would the warranty cover this at all?
The computer is a Presario CQ60-211DX Notebook he's had for all of 6 weeks.
    Thanks

The only warranty that would cover it is a physical damage insurance plan. If you bought the enhanced warranty through a retailer that coverage might apply and I think HP also offers it and you would remember if you bought it because it is very very salty. The standard warranty does not cover it at all. Now, the repair. The price of screens has come down quite a bit in the last couple years. Here is one on eBay for about $130:
    $130 eBay screen
That is about the average price we are seeing now where it was $250 not too long ago.
I have not replaced a CQ60 screen but even the dv9000, its direct ancestor, and a very difficult one to work on, was manageable for an amateur to replace the screen. We can get you the Service Manual and it is maybe a 45 minute job. If you ever built a model as a kid, can turn a screwdriver carefully and can follow plans you can do it. Otherwise, the labor is likely to be another $125 or so at a computer shop. The best way to do it is to get the screen then start calling around for the best price and tell them you already have the screen. You do want to remove the old one first as it is better to find the screen by the model of the screen rather than the model of the laptop because so many makers now use the same exact screens so you can do a broader search. Once you remove the old one you will see it is not too hard to put the new one back in.
Even worst case at $250 or so with labor it is far cheaper than a new laptop. Just don't let people tell you it is going to be $400 or so, which you will hear.

  • Really strange Compaq CQ60 display problem?

I just got motivated to repair a laptop I've had sitting around for a while but I'm having trouble finding the exact issue after disassembling it...
The screen started to turn black ONLY when it is opened about halfway. It displays just fine when it's open to 35-45 degrees, then it goes black if I try to open it further/all the way.
This has to mean there's something loose inside, right? The display ribbon is snug/secure and clean. What else could I check?
I'm extremely inexperienced with this but thought I'd maybe get lucky with a loose connector/ribbon.
Does anyone know what I'm dealing with here?

Possibly a broken wire in the display ribbon/cable.

  • Compaq CQ60-615Dx keyboard displays wrong key. Problem is only with the 2 w s and x keys.

Problem is only with 2 w s x keys.  Tried updating BIOS and num lock suggestion.  Looking for instruction for removing keyboard or any suggestions

    Hi,
This may well be a Hardware issue with the keyboard itself, but re-seating the ribbon connection to the Motherboad and the keyboard is certainly worth trying.
The procedure to remove the keyboard is detailed starting on Page 56 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

  • Blank screen after CPU upgrade for CQ60-119 series

    Hi all.
    The model:
I recently decide to upgrade my Compaq Presario CQ60-119TU purchased in 2008.
    The upgrades:
My son will use it to play some games on it. Yes I know - it only has an integrated 4500M graphics chip - but this should be fine for Spore.
Apart from changing from 2 to 4Gb of Ram I will swap out the 250Gb to a 640Gb hard drive. The CPU is also being swapped out.
Existing CPU: Intel Celeron T1600 (1M Cache, 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
Replacement CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (6M Cache, 2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
The laptop manual states this CPU as the best spec'ed replacement CPU I can put in the laptop.
Prior to this I upgraded to the lated bios which is F.65. All was working well with the T1600 at this time.
    Problem:
After replacing the CPU and pressing the power button the laptop boots up briefly for a couple of seconds and then powers off for a couple of seconds. It reboots and stays on (CPU fan is running) but there is nothing on the screen at any time.
If I replace the old CPU and the machine boots up with the screen displaying text  so video  appears not to be the issue (well ...not broken at least)
Any suggestions on how to get this CPU to work or is the CPU defective? Thanks in advance.

Have a look here and you'll see that having the wrong mobo northbridge chipset (not compatible with the FSB of the processor) will cause the T9600 not to work. If you have the GL40 chipset forget trying to get this processor to work with your existing motherboard. If you have the GM45 chipset then your issue is probably something else.
Don't know what your chipset is? Download the free utiliy CPU-Z and run it.
FYI - The same model motherboard with the GM45 chipset is a 485219-001.

  • Display driver recovery error for Compaq notebook

I have a compaq notebook - CQ60)-211DX , P/N NBO49UA originally with Windows Vista. I've sinced upgraded to Windows 7, 32 bit. I'm needing to find the right Display driver to upload. I'm getting display recovery errors. I've tried windows fix it and I also tried to extend the registry timer but didn't know which registry to open and save.

    Hello Ervinredeye50,
I understand you are looking for an updated display driver, is that correct? I will be happy to help you.
From what shows currently available on the HP.com, site this driver is the most recent one available. I am not sure which one you currently have installed but this the most recent one that HP has  released for your make and model.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
    Thanks

  • CQ60-210US Windows 7 No Sound

Can someone please help me, i have a CQ60-210US notebook and am trying to install windows 7 enterprise. I had windows vista 64 bit installed and sound worked fine, but after i wipped the hard drive and installed windows 7 my sound will not work i have tired almost everything i can think of except for reinstalling vista and upgrading to 7 (don't really want to do this) I've installed all the drivers from hp support website for windows 7 then i reinstalled windows 7 and tryed vista drivers. What is is it shows up are intergrated HDMI sound and wont work (without drivers)  then i install the drivers and it shows up as nvidia HDMI audio and still doesnt work.

    Hi,
Download the following Graphics driver and save it to your Desktop.
    Nvidia Graphics Driver
If you don't still have the installer for your Audio Driver, download this and save it to your Desktop also.
    Conexant Audio Driver
Sometimes the HDMI Audio driver associated with the graphics adapter can prevent the normal Audio driver from installing correctly, so try the following:
From windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Display Adapters, right click the adapter and select Properties.  Click the Driver tab and then click Uninstall Driver.  When this has completed, open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers, right click the Nvidia HDMI entry and select Properties.  Again, click the Driver tab and click Uninstall Driver.  When this has completed, go back to your Desktop and install the Drivers in this order.
    1.  The Conexant Audio Driver.
    2.  The Nvidia Graphics Driver.
When you've done this, restart the notebook and check the audio.
    Regards,
    DP-K

  • Using mini-DVI to VGA adapter to Samsung display

I have 2009 late model of mac mini, The text on display looks washed out, not clear or sharp at all from day one, I thought it was the old model of monitor, tried the same cable to another monitor on another computer, SAME. so I thought the problem could be the cable or adapter.
It's hard for me to believe is the signal from computer. I'm using VGA adapter made by Dynex bought from Best Buy.
    Anybody has suggestions?? Thanks

Yeah, My old Samsung is lcd synmaster 17", bought many years ago at around $1000. Crazy, crazy price looked back. It's fine when I used it on the retired old Dell. It must be the adapter, trying not to buy another VGA adapter, could not image my next lcd will use one, anyway.
This cable has only 14 pins vs 15 pins on the other cable, not sure if it matters?? Or if Safari has anything to do with it??
    Thank for you reply...

  • Mini-dvi to video adapter changing display on macbook?

I recently purchased a mini-dvi to video adapter for my macbook to be able to view photos and video on my tv. I'm having trouble with the display on my computer when I use the adapter. As soon as I plug in the mini-dvi video adapter into the computer the display on my computer switches from 1280 X 800 to 640 X 480. Attached to the adapter I have an s-video cable to my tv. The display shows the same on the tv but in black and white.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

Turn mirroring off. That way the two displays can run independently from one another. The mirroring check box is in Displays Preferences under the Arrangement tab.

  • Display problems using mini-dvi to video adapter

I recently purchased the mini-dvi to video adapter for my powerbook to use my TV as a monitor and to play pictures and videos from the laptop to the TV. I am getting a full color display on the TV, but it's only the screen saver. None of my files, text, or any other desktop folders or menus appear when I open them up on the laptop. The only screen that opens is the display preferences when I open that up, but it's a different set of preferences than what's in my computer's display preferences, as it's header is "NTSC/PAL". But other than that 1 menu, nothing is appearing but the screen saver.

OK, I discovered that I didn't know what I was doing. With the Mini-DVI to video adapter, you need to use an S-Video cable that plugs into an S-video jack on the TV, and then you need a separate cable to plug into the audio out jack on the MacBook to plug into the TV.
I think you could also use an S-video to RCA component cable if you have a TV with component video input, but I couldn't get that to work so I went to the s-video to s-video cable.
