CQ61 black screen repair and upgrade

Hi,
I have a Presario laptop CQ61-214TU.  Upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista.
On pushing the power button i get a black screen and fans and power leds.  No POST or BIOS.  The Caps lock LED blinks very slowly 3 times and then the unit resets.  When it comes back it is the same the fan on, black screen except the CAPS lock led will blink very slowly and continuously.
I tried disconnecting the battery and AC and holding power button down and most other tips (removing hardware etc) on the internet and service pages.  (except the overheating ones).
I assume the motherboard or processor are faulty.
The mobo is 578053-001.
The processor is AM80577T4300.
As i have these out i thought i would upgrade one or both.   What is the fasted combination of the two that i can put into the CQ61-214TU.
Thanks

Here is the Manual:
Manual
The motherboard you list is not listed in the manual nor is the processor although official HP specs also show you have the T4300 Pentium Dual Core processor and that motherboard checks out as a CQ61 Intel motherboard. The fastest compatible processor is listed as a P8700 at 2.53 ghz.
Here is a replacement for your board:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Compaq-CQ61-G61-intel-Motherboard-578053-001-Test-OK-/251048516886
And here is a P8700:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-2-Duo-Mobile-Processor-P8700-2-53GHz-1066MHz-3M-CPU-OEM-P8700-OEM...
Your laptop has the nVidia discrete graphics and is as good as it gets in that series of laptops, which is not a high end machine. So if you get the P8700 and a duplicate of your board you will have the max hardware you can get. I question putting nearly $200 into it, but that is your call.

Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade.
What happen: My laptop was working fine, no blue screen issue, no funny business at all. I bought a new SSD Intel 120 GB and thought it would be a good idea to replace the HDD. I shutdown and disconnected the power adapter, waited a couple of minutes and removed the battery. I opened up the back case and replaced the HDD. And put all the screws back and put the battery back in.
Problem: The very first time I turned the power on, nothing happens besides a black screen. I pressed the dvd drive it works and opens up and closes. I waited for about 30 mins and still has blac screen. When I mean black screen, no bios menu, no logo, just a black screen with the fan sound on.
    I have tried these:
    1. Unplugged everything - battery, adapter, and pressed the power on button for about 60 seconds, nothing, the laptop turns on with the LED display on for both on and battery LED's. But nothing but black screen, no sound of windows loading just the fan and black screen.
    2. I tried putting back my old 2.5" and nothing but black screen.
    Thoughts and suggestions?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Quick update, the duplicate of the comic-con episode downloaded succesfully, and so has the first episode of Supernatural season 8. Blue dots appear to their left in the library.
All the Vampire Diaries episodes (except the bonus comic-con double) have vanished, but I paid for them !
They're not anywhere on my harddrive either.
Which is new by the way, this is a new MacbookPro, literally set it up today.
So it would seem this is a case of purchased and pseudo-downloaded episodes that ended up beinge gobbled up by some iTunes black hole, leaving me with no money, and no episodes.
    Need help, confirmed.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Y are not alones. Sometimes the camera fails.

  • GeForce 8600 Black Screen Repair story

    MBP 17" GeForce 8600M
    Lifespan - 12/15/07 - 12/02/08
Good care taken of this MBP, never dropped, never bumped, no liquid spills
December 2 - Black screen problem presents itself when opening lid after sleep mode, -- will not wake from sleep mode
December 14 - taken to Apple for repair (estimated 9 working day turnaround)
    - Appointment with Apple "Genius" was delayed 35 minutes (scheduled 6:40pm, serviced 7:15pm)
    - Assistant Store Manager comes to speak with me after 3 calls on Walkie Talkie and 30 minutes of wait time.
December 16 - Actual store manager calls me regarding my negative feedback on the store and leaves a message
December 17 - I call store manager back and leave a message
December 18 - Checked online repair status
-MBP recieved and repaired, scheduled for delivery to Apple store on Dec. 19
December 19 - FedEx Tracking Number shows that the product will arrive to destination at 10:30am.
-11:30am - (in person) MacBook has not been shipped, informed that once received, more tests will be done on the computer before they call me and inform me it's ready for pickup.
-6:00pm - checked FedEx, package was delivered at 12:30pm
-6:10pm - called Apple Store (Northridge, CA) - retailer: "Your MBP is still 'in transit' and may be sitting on one of our pallets in our storage facility."
-6:54pm - where the heck is my MBP?
The Northridge Manager, Holli has not called yet. Can ANYONE help me? Am I asking for too much?
Why would Apple let me track my MBP if the details regarding shipping is irrelevant and just lets me know that my MBP is on a pallet somewhere.

I may upgrade to Montain Lion to see if that helps
That would not be advised. May make things worse.
You are experiencing a Kernel Panic as seen and described in Apple doc.#106227.
Bad or incompatible RAM is the most common cause of KP's. It could just need to be reset……. to make sure there's a good connection.
Here's a great site for Resolving Kernel Panics. Please do all the steps in order, even if you don't think you need to do a certain step.
    Here's a great MacFixIt article.

  • [SOLVED] Black screen after kdm upgrade

    Hi,
I just did a pacman -Syu and at the next reboot when xdm was supposed to appear the only thing I got was a black screen. It's pitch-black as if turned off, not as if the background was black (laptop lcd)
If I just enter my password blindly, it enters KDE and launches all the normal processes so it appears to be just a the screen being black.
    This is what I upgraded:

  • Black screen iphoto and flash

Please note this question is about "black screen" in both iPhoto AND Flash.  They are linked in that the symptom appears in both - if I notice in iPhoto then I know that flash videos will also not work; and if I solve it then both are resolved simultaneously.
MacBook Pro Mid2012 OS 10.9.3  iPhoto   Firefox 30.0   (same problem in Safari)  Adobe Flash 14.0.0.125   iPhoto 9.5.1  (different specs to my apple ID because this is happening on my daughters mac book pro).  Never had this problem on my older MacBook Pro.
We have had this problems 3 times (once a month) and keep resolving it but I am not sure why or how!
Sympton:  iPhoto - thumbnails show but when clicked to show full screen the screen is black.  If the photo is flagged then the flag can be seen (in the place you would expect the top left corner of the photo to be).
Firefox - flash videos just show a black screen
Safari - flash videos do not play and suggest that flash player needs updating.  On following the link it goes to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and tries to load the page several times before displaying a long error message
    Solution:
The solution is a combination of the following.  Without understanding what the the cause is it is difficult to know which is fixing it:
1     Uninstall Flash with Adobe uninstaller   http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash _player_osx.dmg
2     find a way to download the flash player installer file (can't remember exactly how I did this as this last time I had it in the downloads folder already))
2     Verify and Repair Disk Permissions shows the following
    Repairing permissions for “”Permissions differ on “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”
    Permissions repair complete
    3     Re-install Flash
4     Restart at every available opportunity
I have in the past also repaired the disk and used iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the iPhoto library but these are lengthier and don't seem necessary.
Any ideas on what is causing both flash and iPhoto to fail at the same time so that we can fix the underlying problem very much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Paul

A simpler fix now - but I am still not sure of the cause - might be a faulty hard disk - but this doesn't make sense in that it always seems to be related to Safari - so is there a malfunction with Safari.
This morning - same problem fixed by repairing permissions with the disk utility. then a shutdoen and restart.    Log says:
    Repairing permissions for “”Permissions differ on “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”Group differs on “Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”; should be 80; group is 0.Permissions differ on “Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”; should be -rw-rw-rw- ; they are -rw-r--r-- .Repaired “Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”
    Permissions repair complete
Is this a hard disk malfunction or a safari issue?  All ideas gratefully received.

  • Ipad2 showing black screen after being upgraded to ios5

I upgraded IPad2 to ios5 through Mac, since then - for 5 hours - it has apple on black screen and mur-murs something every 5 minutes. For how long might it continue ?

Hello BitMazta, please tell us a little more about your computer:1.) More detail on the model number (example Probook 4710S).2.) How much ram does your computer have? 3.) I have two great links at this recent thread that could help you: Upgrade to Win 10 Good luck!

  • Partial grey/black screen- repair?

    Hello,
My iBook G4 got struck/hit the other day. Since then, the lower 2/3 of the screen is black and grey. It appears to boot up correctly, but I essentially can't see what is behind the black and grey areas. As an aside, one hinge has been broken for a while now, although it hadn't affected performance. (It was more of an annoyance).
I did some very cursory Web searches, and I'm not sure that it would be worth the price of repairing it. I'd love the new Air, but am considering the MacBook. Any input would be appreciated.

Hey MamaKto and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
My iBook G4 got struck/hit the other day.
Yup they don't like that but neither do I.
Since then, the lower 2/3 of the screen is black and grey.
Did it get hit in the display area on the left side? or on the display itself?
It appears to boot up correctly, but I essentially can't see what is behind the black and grey areas.
OK two things come to mind.
    1) The display itself could be bad/broken. If the damage was in the top rear of the display or left side the driver array could be damaged and that would exhibit this behavior.
    2) The LVDS cable could be damaged and that could also cause this problem.
As an aside, one hinge has been broken for a while now, although it hadn't affected performance. (It was more of an annoyance).
Right I have seen that happen a lot as the hinge wears and gets stiff. That puts undue pressure on the frame/hinge and something breaks. If it was the left hinge looking at it that would reinforce the LVDS diagnosis.
I'd love the new Air, but am considering the MacBook.
I think the Air is totally sexy but impractical unless you travel a lot. The MacBook would be the more practical choice.
BTW If you decide to retire your iBook I repair and donate them to teachers in the inner city. Email me if interested.

  • MSI GX623 black screen, Afterburner and that old story

Hello. So maybe someone will know the cure for my problem. I have an MSI GX623 gaming laptop, i have it for like 3 years, i dont remember. So when i bought it I started playing games with it (because it's a GAMING laptop :D). After some time I've started to have black screen/crash problems. So because I had warranty, I gave the laptop for repairs. As I remember, they've changed GPU and cooling system. I took it back from them, hoped that the problem was in the past, but that same day I played GTA 4 and there it is again. All this was like 2 years ago. Until this day I used MSI afterburner and it helped, but sometimes the problem used to show up again, so I used to leave pc on sleep mode and it helped. Right now, I'm using a cooling pad, the afterburner for some time, like half a year. It was like a month until yesterday it all started again. Everything was fine, i turned my laptop, open LoL to play, started the match and bammm, black screen. I thought, ok, not the first time, lets just restart the laptop, open afterburner and it will be ok. Not so fast, as much as I wanted it to be ok, all day I couldn't play anything, not nba 2k14 not lol (these are the 2 games I played for like half year). Well all day I had to watch Sopranos and Prison break, no lol or nba :/ I left it on sleep mode overnight and today it's good as new, played lol, nba, it's all cool, but after some time ( the laptop wasn't shuted down for no time), a short, like few hour brake  without games, wanted to play lol and there it is again. I don't know what's wrong, the temperatures are fine, more like fine, yesterday i cleaned the inside of the laptop from dust. Everything is perfect, but it's still there. I've updated afterburner, but no help. Maybe there is some new solutions to this problem without afterburner? Thank you BTW, I use windows 7, but these days it's like xp, everyone uses them D: thx for the help )

Could be heat related. Do you know what temperature your CPU and GPU are running?
Just to be sure on the driver front, uninstall your current graphics card drivers, run >>Driver Sweeper<< to clear any driver traces, reboot and then install the ones from the MSI website: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=nbdriver&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1702

  • Tried to update my iphone5 and it went straight to black screen with and arrow pointing to itunes symbol. I don't have a computer and need to use my phone ASAP.

I tried to update my iPhone 5 and it went straight to. Black screen when a power cord and an arrow pointing to itunes. I googled what to do Nd it says to plug it into itunes on your computer but I no longer own a computer. I HAVE to have my phone for work and am not happy In the least with the help I've revived from Apple. I need help ASAP.

There is nothing that you can do except do what the phone is asking you to do and plug it into a computer to update it with iTunes.
I think Apple would have given you the same response too because there is nothing else that you can do - there is no other way to update the phone except by plugging it into a computer and using iTunes.
There is nothing we can do if you don't like the answers you are getting, but there is nothing else to do and it is hardly Apple's fault if you don't own a computer any longer.  Unfortunely you need a computer for this, so there is really no work aounrd.

  • Black screen gnome and kde, openbox fine

I installed the testing xorg a month or so back and it naturally broke my system (i use ati and fglrx). I downgraded the relevant packages and am no longer using the testing rep, but now gdm comes up fine, but logging into gnome or kde4-mod just gives me a black screen with working mouse. Openbox works fine however, i've been using that but would like to see how kde4 has progressed. Any ideas? Couldn't find anything by searching.
