CQ62-209wm turns on but does not boot stays on black screen

This same question was asked in 2013 but was never marked answer found. The suggested answer was to run the diagnostic tests on the hard drive and memory. My laptop has the exact same problem and I did perform the tests. Everything passed with no problem. I finally decided that the video had gone out hence I had a bad motherboard. Well I ordered a new motherboard, new battery, and new memory. I pulled the heat sinks cleaned the CPU, cleaned the fan and cooling fins, then replaced everything. Guess what folks it is still doing the same thing as before with all these new parts. No beep codes are generated, no sounds etc. What does happen is the Caps Lock light flashes about every 3 seconds and the WiFi symbol light stays orange. It never blinks. I found the light codes page accidently but there is no corosponding pattern between the light codes and the blinking cap lock key. It will just sit there and blink as long as you will let it or until the battery goes dead which ever comes first. This same problem has been around for years as I have found a multitude of posts concerning it and it is not just this one model. Forums everywhere have this posted on them.
So how about it HP engineers. Are there any of you willing to take on this problem and tell us how to fix it once and for all? I am tired of having a computer that only works when it wants too. I want both of my CQ62-209wm laptops to work. I am able to get the laptops to boot completely about 35% of the time. In order to make them work I remove the battery, plug in the power supply, replace the battery and then try to start it. Sometimes it works majority of the time it doesn't. I am beginning to suspect a possible problem in the power circuit because this is the first laptop I have ever used or owned that would not power on if there was no battery installed.
This question was solved.

  • T42P. Does not boot/startup. Black screen. All indicators except the battery and power are off.

    Hi all,
I am new to the forum and so very desperate for help!
I have a T42P (2373-C61) machine. All of the sudden today, it blue-screened. I turned it off, then tried to turn it back on.
Now, it is not coming up at all. I can not even get to the BIOS or see anything in the screen!
All the lights/indicators are off except these two: the battery/power and the little z (the on indicator).
The NumLk and Caps Lock indicators flash every 15 seconds or so.
The hard drive, bluetooth, and wireless lights are off completely.
Tried getting to the BIOS by unplugging the battery and using the AC only but nothing happens when I press F1 or the IBM button.
Also, tried a suggestion from other users that requires unplugging Battery/AC, pressing Power button 10 times, then the 11th time for 30 sec. Still nothing happens.
No HW/SW was added to the machine recently...
    Any suggestions is appreciated..

It can also be the LCD itself...
BTW, if the graphic card has failed that equals motherboard replacement since it's soldered to the planar...
    Let's hope not...
Good luck and keep us posted.
    Cheers,
    George

  • My computer suddenly decides not to work and turns on but does not go past the grey apple screen with the loading wheel.. it will not go to my desktop. What should i do?

can somebody please help me fix this issue, i have been sitting at my computer all last night and this morning trying to figure it out. It could be the hardrive or anything really i just need to get it working. Alot of important things that need to be done using this computer and i am freaking out.
My computer suddenly decides not to work and turns on but does not go past the grey apple screen with the loading wheel.. it will not go to my desktop. What should i do?

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Or if you are running 10.7 Lion, boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use Disk Utility to repair your OS 10.7 partition.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • TS1367 My charger connects with my macbook with a very faint green light (not the normal orange light) and can maintain the computer turned on but does not charge the battery.

My charger connects with my computer with a very faint green light (not the normal orange light) and can maintain the computer turned on but does not charge the battery. The power source to keep it on is the power adapter and that it's "Not charging" on the battery settings. And my charger seems to charge other computers fine.
The part of my mac where the adapter (L-shaped, magnetic) attaches is a bit damaged - a small piece of the white case/body around the part where the adapter attaches is broken off, but that's just an outer damage.
I don't know what's wrong with my computer, and if anyone has had a similar experience or knows what's going on, it'd be tremendously helpful!
    Thank you!!

    Hi Christopher,
Doubtful an upgrade would fix a hardware issue. If you are thinking of upgarding to Lion, best to do all necessary maintenance first.

  • Mac does not boot past white loading screen and disk cannot be repaired?

So when I turn on my Macbook Pro and it does not boot past a white screen with the Apple logo, loading wheel and progress bar. When the progress bar completes, the Macbook shuts down and when I open it again the cycle is repeated. I have opened it in Safe mode and it still showed the same thing. So I opened it in Recovery Mode and had Disk Utility verify and repair Macintosh HD. As it turns out, Disk Utility said Macintosh HD is beyond repair and I need to back up my files and reformat the whole Mac. Unfortunately, I have never used Time Machine since I started using the Mac and I obviously cannot use it now since startup does not even get past the white screen.
How do I reformat the Mac when it does not even go beyond the white screen during startup? My Mac did not come with any recovery or installation disks. Are my unbacked up files gone for good?
    Thanks.

Since you are able to get into Recovery Mode (Command+R), you can erase/format your Mac via Disk Utility.
Your files/data might be OK. One way to get your data off since you have no back up would be to have another Mac and connect the two via a Thunderbolt cable or even an ethernet cable (I think), then restart your 'bad' Mac into Target Mode by restarting and pressing the T key. Then go onto the 'good' Mac and see if you can copy the data files you want over to it.

  • Satellite Pro A100-080 does not boot - stays dark after 3 beeps

    Hello,
after one week off, the Toshiba Satellite Pro A100-080 (PSAASE-00G004GR, 4 GB RAM) of my children does not boot anymore.
When powering on the system, it *beeps 3 times* (one longer, two short beeps), then the HDisk light shortly blinks "blue" and then nothing more happens. A/C, Power and Batterie LEDs are "blue", which seem to be the OK state.
No other useful help, as the display stays dark.
We had upgraded to 4 GB MEM (Kingston) one year ago and I already tried the former used 1 GB (included when purchased) or the 2 x 1 GB replacement from December 2007, but same status with those modules. So it is not
    a defect memory.
I hope it is not the mainboard, probably only the included NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics adapter?
Does anyone have an idea, what might be the issue?
    Thx for a short help.

    Hello
Generally speaking this kind of beep codes are hardware related or with other words hardware is malfunctioning. So I think its a hardware problem and an ASP should check your notebook to identify the reason of this.
On the Toshiba website you will find a list of ASPs:

  • MacBook Pro won't boot - stays on black screen and beeps every few seconds

    Hi,
My MacBook Pro has been having issues - when powered on wont boot past the white screen and more recently will just stay on black screen and beeps every 5 seconds. I had someone look at it and it seems apparently the motherboard is the problem
and either needs fixing or replacing. As I am traveling in Nicaragua the closest apple store is in Managua (capital). Would I be able to get the motherboard looked at and replaced if need be at this apple store? Also, does anyone know the approximate price for the motherboard to be replaced? Up until a few days ago the laptop was still turning on and working every now and then but now stays on black screen and beeps.
Any advice would be very helpful!
    Thanks

It means that your Mac's memory is damaged > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2538?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
First, replace the memory modules. You can buy more memory at OWC or Crucial. It can also be replace by a reseller.
If it doesn't work, the RAM slots are damaged, so your logic board has to be replaced. It costs more than a half of the price of your MacBook

  • P7-1446s powers on but does not boot (no video output)

Hi everyone, I've got a tricky issue with my p7-1446s.
    Specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03500676&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en#N90
Was running 8.1 at time of death.
The fans spin, the power light in the back is a solid green, and the disc drive opens and closes.
The backlight of the front on/off button does not turn on when the PC is powered on (it's typically backlit green for active use or orange for sleep).  This button will power the PC on, but doesn't turn it off.
I've tried multiple monitors (DVI and VGA), unplugging the hard drive and starting with a boot disc in the drive, and plugging in a video card, to no avail.
I'm getting the impression from solutions to similar problems on other computers that this is a this is a CPU or motherboard issue - is this something reflowing could solve?
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Pavilion G6 2249WM powers on but does not boot - black screen

I have a G6 2249wm that had a message that the fan wasn't working. I had the fan replaced and after it was replaced it would not boot. I could hear the fan running and the caps lock light blinked once about every 5 seconds and the amber wifi light was on. After researching and taking steps outlined in the HP Computer does not start (Windows 8), I found that the code meant that the CPU was bad. I had that replaced and the notebook is still in the same condition. Is there anything else that I can do to get this computer to work?
    Pavilion G6 2249WM    C2N47UA#ABA   AMD A6 - 4400M
After troubleshooting a little more I find that when the laptop is started the hard drive does not turn on. I used a USB adapter to plug the hdd into my desktop and found that it does work. I then plugged a different hdd that I know works into the laptop and found the same issue. Does this mean that the motherboard is bad?

    Hello @FLC123,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand that your notebook computer is producing a blinking light from the caps lock, and that the screen is blank. I would be happy to help you!

  • Power mac G5 turns on but will not boot up

    Hello,
I have the last power mac G5 quad core made before apple switched over to intel. I have not used he computer in about 3 month and it worked fine when I put it into storage but when I tried to turn it on today it will not boot up.
There is constantly a yellow light on near to where the RAM snaps in even when the computer is off. (this is the 3rd light up from the bottom and the only on that is on at this point)
When I press the power button a red light turns on for about one second. Next to this light are the words LED806 Checkstop and it is offset to the right of the other lights a little bit when looking into the side panel of the computer. This light also lights up briefly when I press the power button to turn off the computer.
After pressing the power button another red light turns on just above the yellow light that is always on and the screen is still black. Then the screen eventually turns grey with the apple logo as it normally looks except some of the pixels are off colored a bit in square patterns across the screen. When this happens a green light turns on just below the yellow light. Now there are three lights on all at once.
Next the screen briefly turns light blue and then a little darker shade of blue and the computer will not boot up or go any further than this point.
Can anybody tell me what is going on here and is there any way to fix this?
Is there any way to reset or reboot the computer this the install disk?

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My ipad turns in but will not boot up. screen stays blank. I've tried resetting it and rebooting from itunes. It says it is done but the screen still stays blank. The apple icone will show up intermittetly.

I turned on my ipad after charging it and the screen went blank. I tried the home button and on off button and that did not help. I went to iTunes and rebooted the ipad and restored it and it asked me to reboot from the ipad but the screen is still blank. It will go to a blue screen if I hit the on/off button. What else is there to check?

If you restored the iPad, there is nothing else to check. I suggest that you make an appointment at an Apple Store Genius Bar and let them evaluate your iPad.

  • Single-User Mode Copying Files/System Does not Boot Past Apple Logo Screen

I have a Macbook 2.0GHZ, 2GB RAM, that recently tried to download a secuirty and keynot update. Following the download the system will no longer boot past the Apple Logo Screen with the spinning wheel. I do not have access to a OS disk yet or to a firewire cable either. I've have seen posts from others that describe how to use traget disk mode to reinstall the secuirty update manually and then they can boot their computer. Safe mode will not work. I did boot into single-user mode and run the disk utility there and it says my HD is OK. Since I do not have a firewire or an OS Disk, I am wondering if there is a way to copy those files i need to a USB pen stick then install them onto the computer via single-user mode, considering this is the only way I can boot and manipulate the machine at this time. If this is not possible please let me know so I can find a way to scrounge up a firewire cable or disk. Thank you in advance for any assistance.
    Ted K

Thanks to Limnos and BDAqua I know you guys have helped others with these kind of problems from the other posts I read. I just want to list what I did exactly in case anyone wants to try to do this with a usb drive or does not have access to a boot disk or firewire cable.
1: Install security update on a pen drive
2: Boot in single user mode, CMD-S on startup
    3: /sbin/mount -uw /
4: mkdir /Volumes/usb (usb can be any name, name of usb drive or anything you want)
5: ls /dev (you need to get the drive listing for the usb drive to mount it appropriately, it should be disk#s# but this is close to what the HD and Cd drives are listed as so you may need to list once before you put the usb stick in and once ater. I had issues inserting the usb drive in single-user mode and it would freeze up the root drive)
6: /sbin/mount_msdos /dev/disk1s1 /Volumes/usb (this mounts the usb drive, i had to use msdos because of how my usb drive was formatted, you may need to check your usb drive format, hfs is the apple format for usb drives but it did not work for me)
7: cp /Volumes/usb/SecUpd2009-001Intel.dmg (this copies the files from the usb drive to the root drivel, at this point you no longer need the usb drive)
8: hdiutil mount /SecUpd2009-001Intel.dmg (this mounts the disk image)
9: cd /Volumes/"Security Update 2009-001" (after i mounted the image this is how it appeared in the Volumes directory, you might need to do ls /Volumes to get the name, the quotes are important to get the whole file directory changed)
10: installer -pkg SecUpd2009-001Intel.pkg -target / (this installs the acutal update, i used the SecUpd2009-001Intel.pkg and it worked though I think you might be able to use "Security Update 2009-001" with quotes as well.)
    11: reboot
i hope this helps anyone looking to do this. Thanks again to those who helpes and all the other posts that had information that helped me identify and then fix my issue! I still love my mac.
