CQ70-120US Notebook: Recovery Failure or Failure to Fully Recover?

Compaq Presario CQ70-120US Notebook PC
Model: FS110UA
VISTA Home Premium
Prompted by a sudden onset of system hang issues,  I attempted a system recovery via the hard drive, having never created a backup set of recovery discs.
Upon completion, the system booted to an MS DOS prompt.
Unaware of what it was asking or seeking, I closed out of it, however rebooting or booting to safe  mode only directs to a blank black screen, with nothing visable but the mouse curser.
Any assistance would be highly appreciated.

Dear Customer,
Welcome and Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Forum
Originally the Notebook will have the Recovery Partition and that would give you an option to create a set of Recovery Disk. If you have not created those Recovery Disks when the Notebook was in working condition we cannot do that right now
As of now if you need to recover your Notebook with the new Operating System you can check if the Recovery Partition
is in a working condition or not, If yes you can easily recover/restore your Notebook
If Recovery Partition is corrupted
You need to call HP Technical Support and request for a set of Recovery Disks , So you can recover/restore your Notebook at the earliest
OR
You need call up Microsoft and purchase an Operating System with the License Key, So you can recover/restore your Notebook at the earliest
I strongly recommend you to Contact HP Technical Support over the Phone for further assistance without any delay
Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

  • Hi, I have a hard disk failure so to recover my data I am using disk utility to restore the data on an external drive while booting from a second external hard drive. When I perform the operation it gives me an input/output error and stops. Any tips?

Hi, I have a hard disk failure so to recover my data I am using disk utility to restore the data on an external drive while booting from a second external hard drive. When I perform the operation and after having selected both my destination and source drives, the operation begins but soon fails due to input/output error. If I try to create an image of the drive it gives me the same error message. Any help would be much appreciated.

Disk Utility only creates a image of the drive, so it's no help getting exactly what you want, which is your files. If the file structure is messed up or the drive is failing then it's no help.
If you have a external boot drive and you can't access the internal non-booting drive though the typical Finder and windows to transfer your files via drag and drop methods, then you need to install Data Rescue on the external boot drive and it will do as best as it can to recover your files. (works on non-encrypted/non-Filevaulted drives only)
.Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Are you sure you have hard drive failure, or that OS X isn't merely not booting?
Because if the drive is working physically, then there is a host of fixes

  • Presario recovery failure

Compaq Presario CQ60-212US, Vista OS, 64 Bit. I created a recovery DVD and then ran recovery. After formatting hard drive it attempted to recover files to the original state but failed, giving error code 1002. The same result using my recovery DVD. I ran the hard drive tests - all normal. I downloaded and tried to install the Vista repair file (ISO file) but it would not respond. I also get a message that says BOOTMGR missing. Please advise how I can successfully run a recovery. Thanks.

Here is one specific to that error code, but only happens if you backup your files at the start of recovery, I am not sure if this error could happen if you have an external drive connected during recovery but did Not do a file backup.

  • Partial recovery failure

I am repairing a hp laptop DV7 for a friend, I have the recovery dvd's and drivers dvd
but all I get is a message that the recovery has a partial failure. I can never
get the system restored to factory settings.
I loaded windows 7 64bit pro easily, but I could not get the drivers
loaded because the nic card driver could not be loaded.
What is wrong with this proceedure I thought it was supposed to be
simple?  change the boot order to make the dvd drive first
and install the dvds in order.. What is missing from this picture in getting
    this DV7 laptop working?
    Thanks.

    Hi:
This is the link to the support and driver page for the notebook:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=5189529&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&task=&lang=en&cc=us
Like I said, I need the hardware ID's. For example, note the list of wireless network adapters.
You need to know the hardware ID's in order to install the right driver.
Looking at the specs for the notebook, there are some drivers you need that aren't listed on the page.
For example...Chipset which you need to install first and reboot before installing any other driver.
First download is what you need.
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx
Second is video. Install and reboot.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-103171-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...=
I do not know what audio your model has. There could be one of two audio chips installed Conexant or IDT.
Again, that is why I need the hardware ID's so I can post the drivers you need.
    Wired Network:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-102406-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...=
How you want to make a folder for these drivers and run them is up to you.
But we can get this done for your friend.

  • Recovery Failure of hp Pavillion dv8 after hard drive replaced.

I have an hp Pavillion dv8 Product VF836AV. Model dv8t-1100 between one and two years old and out of warranty.
The 320 GB Seagate hard drive failed.
I had a local shop install a new hard drive.
I attempted to use an HP DV8-1001XX W764 Dual OS Recovery Kit [2DVD's Super Recovery 588725-001 with Supplemental CD] to get the computer running again.
The Kit envelope says "Please read the instructions before beginning" -- What instructions? All the package said was 'Start with "Changing the Boot Order of the BIOS" '.  How?
I simply turned the machine on and loaded the DVD's one by one per the prompts on the screen.
The process seemed to go OK, but at the end it said the recovery failed.
    What do I do now?

    Hi,
Assuming you're trying to reinstall Windows 7, there is an easy work around if you have ( or can borrow ) a retail Windows 7 installation disc that is exactly the same version as your OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the exact retail version you would need.
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the underside of your notebook when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers you may need can be found Here.

  • HP G62 Windows Startup error recovery Failure

    Notebook:
    HP G62 - 228CL
    Running Windows 7 64-bit
Hello everyone, I need a bit of help.
My computer will boot windows 7. When I start it up, it tries to boot up.  I then get a Windows failed to boot message on the windows error recovery screen and asks me if I would like to use Windows Startup Repair Tool to fix the Problem. But the tool never starts up. It just leads to a windows background and does nothing. I have also tried using f11 System recovery but it does nothing.

    Hi,
    Firstly, regarding your existing files.
One possible way to try and retrieve your files from a non-booting drive is to follow the process detailed in the link below.  The Ubuntu operating system CD you create can run from the CD alone ( ie it doesn't have to install on the Hard Drive ) and I've often found it to be successful in retrieving data even from a failing Hard Drive.  When you've created the CD, follow the instructions and see if you can back up your existing files.
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windo...
Secondly, regarding the replacement of the Hard Drive.
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.
    500Gb Hard Drive
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 52 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive - the procedure is described in the HP document Here.
If you don't have your Recovery Discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

  • HP DV6 2030 SD recovery failure

    Hello
I have a nearly three year old HP DV6 2030 SD and for several reasons I wanted to reinstall all software. Directly after buying (december 2009)  I made the three rescue DVD's and a system recovery DVD, and just to check, I then reinstalled the whole system.
Now installation fails. After loading all files and (re)starting windows, a message is shown that states that current preparation
of driver installation is being done. It then shows the HP recovery manager asking me to insert rescue disc 1. When inserting
it is (apparently) not the right one, since it just continues asking for it.
On pressing "cancel"  the next message is that the installation failed and I have to start all over again.
Now I did that 5 times, each time with the same result.
How can I continue, what can I do?
    any help is appreciated
    best
    jan

    Hi, Jan:
You should not have anything connected to the notebook as the system image is not designed to recognize any other hardware but that which is inside the notebook.
Sometimes recovery disks just quit working (or don't work in the first place). It is hard to say why.
If you cannot get your disks to work, you can resort to installing a plain version of windows 7 and add the drivers you need from your notebook's support and driver page. This method works most of the time, but you will need to be able to read the product key on the bottom of your notebook.
    Here's how to do that.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/
Otherwise, you will have to order a set of recovery disks from HP if they are available by reading the info at the link below.

    Hello ahmed-elias,
Since you did not create the recovery media when you set up your notebook, you will need to purchase a recovery usb media from HP or an HP partner.
You have a choice of where to get a recovery disk set. The cost is usually around $30.00 USD
