CR 11 Developer vs CR 11 Professional

Developed reports in CR 11 Developer version: 11.0.0.1282, copied reports to CR 11 Professional version: 11.0.0.2812.
This document could not be opened. It does not appear to a Crystal Report document.
This document has the expected file extension (.RPT), but it seems to be corrupted.
If this report used to work, try opening it with a different version of Crystal Reports and if that still does not work, please contact your administrator.

Not clear what the question is. Same versions, just the runtime is not distributed nor are you licensed to build application with professional.

• Can any app developer help a professional cricket club develop an App?

Any cricket loving app developers out there?
You don't have to be a huge company and it's probably not that hard to develop.
A large professional cricket club are after an app that will have things like player profiles, fixtures and current scores featured.
Thanks.

If you already have a website, you could ask your web site developer to make a web app for you. Otherwise, try to contact a developer who has made an application that you like, and ask them for a quote.
Good luck!

• Pro support for iOS app-development

Where can I find some more indept support for developing apps using Flash Professional CS5 / CS5.5.
I have been seaching the web for days now. Looking for a place where professional best-practises are shared on this topic. Without any real luck. All i ever see is the same basic tutorials on how to publish your first Hello World-app and some old basics about using cacheasbitmap and such...
Please could someone direct me to the right forum?
Only newly official information I have found so far, is focused on Flash Builder and Flex 4.5... And I'm begining to wonder if this means that app-development using Flash Professional is on it's way out already ?!
(Btw i tryed to make this discussion under Packager for iPhone-forum, but the option to post it there, didn't show up...)

Hi,
that forum was archived and the users sort of merged into this one
http://forums.adobe.com/community/air/development/mobile?view=discussions
...definitely not on the way out though!

• DI Server with SQL Server 2008

Hello.
In the company where I work we develop an application that uses B1WS.
In the development environment had the following characteristics:
SAP Business One 2007 SP01, PL 09
SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
Windows XP Professional SP 3
SAP Business One Web Services 1.0
At the time we applied to the deploying the SAP Business One version 8.8, but I had a serious problem. The test environment has the following characteristics:
SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition
SAP Busines One 8.8 * PL 10
Windows Server 2008
The problem is that when trying to connect to the DI Server generates the following messages:
The TAO NT Naming Service has stopped. (WithOut DBUser and DBPassword)
Unable to access SBO-Common database Login (With DBUser and DBPassword)
I tested the connection directly to the DI Server disponbile by example in the SDK and it generates the same error. For the SAP interface is connected correctly.
DI Server allows connect with SQL Server 2008?

Had the same error
'The TAO NT Naming Service has stopped.'
Was using the external IP address for the LicenceServer - which is on the same server as SAP DIserver and B1WS.
I changed to using localhost:30000 and that solved the issue.
I suspect if I had used the internal IP it would have worked as well (ie the one you get from ipconfig) but as it works I'm not going to test that.

• Crystal Report generation using XML

I have some reports that were created using XML and as I recall when I created them using CR v. 9 I used a connections called ADO (Xml) or something like that. On one of my machines I have CR XI and the only option available is XML and when I add a field from this connection it inserts: "{NewDataSet\TableName.FieldName}" however, previously when I used the ADO XML connections it only inserted {TableName.FieldName}. In the version 9 CR i was using the professsional version and in the version 11 CR it is still the professional version but I can't seem to create an XML connector that doesn't prefix the table/field with "NewDataSet". My request is two fold, first, can you please direct me to some articles that I can read to better understand how to generate CR from XML? My project is to generate the XML and then set the xml during runtime into the report using SetDataSource and then display the report using the CR viewing that I package and redist with my app. Secondly, why does the ADO XML connector not available in CR XI professional version and is there any way to get the CR v. 9 behaviour back?
Thanks,
Marcus

Hi, Markus
If you are planning to run reports from a .NET application, you need to have the Developer edition, not the professional.
The ADO.NET Driver is not installed by default. Go into Control Panel - Add / Remove programs, and chose Crystal Reports, and change. You can expand the Database drivers, and you should see the ADO.NET driver there. Note: you need to have the .NET framework installed for this to work.

• Restrictions Really needs improvement for Business use

Hi
We have written an app and are replacing our industry standard barcode scanning devices with over 100 iPod Touches worldwide using a third party barcode sled accessory. This is much cheaper (Around $800 vs $1500) and offers a much richer and less confusing user interface to the end-user. However our end-users are often low paid seasonal workers employed by our clients, so when it comes to the restriction settings in iOS we try to lock the devices down as much as possible.
I think more and more people are treating the iPod/iPhone/iPad in commerical environments and so the ability to secure and maintain these devices really needs to be improved. Our situation aside you can use your iPhone as a point of sale with a credit card swipe, if you have a retail chain with several of these devices for use by employees you don't want them to be messing around on them or making choices that you don't want them to purposfully or accidently.
For instance:
iOS6 upgrade seems to download automatically and prompt the user if they want to install. There is no way to turn updates off, and not even a password is required to do it. In my scenario if someone gets the upgrade push and then clicks ok they then can't work for 30 minutes, not good if there is a long line of people waiting to be served.
WiFi/VPN connections can be changed
Passcode lock can be turned on/off/changed
Date/Time / Keyboard / International / Accessibility settings can all be played with
Weather app always available
Stocks app always available
Maps can be used (location can be disabled at least!)
etc..
If I (as a developer) tell our deployment manager to tell our client's manager to tell their scanning manager to tell their temporary workers to not mess around with things like the above....someones not going to listen, and our IT department is just going to have to check each device and clean up.
I know that apple's portable devices are aimed more at consumers, but I personlly think it's about time that we have some more attention to more business scenarios.
I don't want to come accross negative so i'll finish by saying that a lot of the restrictions in place are very useful. Being able to disable the store, iTunes and safari are very big wins, without those we wouldn't have switched to iOS devices.
Anyone else have a similar need for more administrative ability?
Thanks for reading.

One of these might be good for a POS (assuming you need touch screen), but those are terrible for graphic artists to use. All-in-ones are to be put bluntly, over-priced pieces of junk with crappy power supplies and worthless integrated video cards. They will run too hot most likely and need maintenance more often than larger well-ventilated desktop towers. Your graphic artists staff will hate the small low resolution monitors as well as the lack of decent GPU acceleration. The only good thing about them is the small form factor, a sacrifice well worth looking past IMHO.
Graphic artists should be using high-end monitors, IPS panels for accurate colors and high resolution displays of 2560x1600 pixels. I strongly recommend looking at Dell's Ultra Sharp models (particularly the 30"). If you end up getting three Dell Ultra Sharps then you might as well get the whole system from them as well and develop some sort of professional relationship and support system like most businesses.
*The monitor should be the most expensive component by far and it is the most important for work productivity, do not skimp out here, you run a graphic design firm after all!
Look for reasonably priced desktops with 4-8GB RAM, Intel or AMD quad core processors. Stay away from discrete graphics, Photoshop uses GPU acceleration found on higher end video cards and it is useful. Larger hard drives perform better than smaller ones because of areal density, so buy larger hard drives than needed (1-2TB drives with 500GB or larger platters) and run them in RAID1 for redundancy, because I doubt you have a storage area network.

• SSDT: Creation of localDB instances from project file - Sql Server Unit testing purposes

I have a SqlServer Database Project in my solution (VS2013 Professional) which has a corresponding test project with some stored procedure unit tests. Currently I am using a LocalDB and as far as I understand a local database instance is created in C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft
SQL Server Local DB\Instances\Projects and the specific .mdf file referenced in the SQL Server Object Explorer is in C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\SSDT\[ProjectName]. The unit tests run fine on my local machine which I have developed
the project on.
My issue is we have a box which is configured to check out the project file from our version control, build the project using ms build commands and then run the unit tests using VSTest.Console. Usually with C# Test projects we reference the test project
dll and the unit tests run fine. I have referenced the dll for the test project with the stored procedure unit tests in.
With the Stored Procedure unit tests however we get this exception:
Initialization method [project].[spTest].TestInitialize threw exception. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 50 - Local Database Runtime error occurred. The specified LocalDB instance does not exist.
After some digging I have realised that the localdb instance seems to be created when the project itself is created in VS not when it is built. Specifically when the localdb is first used and if you look into the appData folder of the test machine there
is no corresponding mdf file for the project.
The question is is there a way to set up a localDB instance on the new machine if all you have the project file? The only purpose of the project on the test machine is to run the unit tests, no other development purposes. VS2013 Professional is installed
on the test machine but a solution only using config file changes or MSBuild/VSTest commands would be preferable.
I realise you could change the connection string to an actual test database and run the unit tests of that but we quite like the localdb approach for the testing. I also realise that you could potentially transfer the mdf file (haven't tested this solution)
as well, though I would prefer if there is a solution to my initial question.

I have been reading up on LocalDB and I assume a automatic LocalDB is created when you create a sql server database project (ie on localdb first use). I have tried adding the database creation to the test project config file but do not really know where
to go from there. The second link does not really specify when the named localdb will be created if you add the config items and I am not even sure if that is an actual solution. Here's my test project config file for reference

Thanks in advance for any response. Sorry if there is any misunderstanding, while I have been using VS to develop from the start, this is the first time I have used a Sql Server Database Project.

Yes, you can create a LocalDB instance manually. You use the SqlLocalDb utility, see here:

• Software RAID failing constantly

Dear all,
I need help as I cannot work out what is going wrong the the Mirrored RAID i set up.
I bought 2 x 1TB drives and setup Mirrored RAID (software) through the GUI Disk Utility Application. I assumed it would all "just work".
After about a month the RAID failied. It happened after I ran TechTool Pro 5. Could this have caused permanent damage which leads me to where I am today (see below)? I unplugged the drives and plugged into my laptop (I don't know why I didn't just unplug and plug them into the Mac Mini they were in). Anyway it came up saying "Rebuilding" and it took about 9 hours. All was good again.
Until early October 2009 when Disk Utility reported that the RAID was "degraded" and one of the drives had "failed".
I was pretty shocked as it was a new drive. I thought the best thing to do would be to get a new 1TB drive to rebuild the RAID and then deal with the failed drive.
It took over 2 weeks to get the new drive and enclosure (long story). I setup the new drive last night, plugged it in and the "Rebuilding" message came up with the same "it will take 9 hours message".
I left it over night and when I got up Disk Utility told me that the older drive of the two has "failed". There has to be something weird going on here and this is where I need your help.
Configuration
1. The drives are 1TB Hitachi 3200rpm SATA I/II, 32 MB Cache drives
2. The 'old' enclosure is an Icecube G2 SuperS 800/400/USB2/eSata 3.5" Enclosure
3. The 'new' enclosure is an OWC Mercury Elite-AL, Quad Interface eSata/FW 400/FW 800/USB 2/USB 1
4. The Mac Mini only has one FW800 port and I connect the 2 drives up in serial.

Here is the behaviour I'm seeing now.
I'll start with both drives off and turn both on.
1. Both drives mount in Disk Util
2. 20 seconds later a message comes up about rebuilding slices for "disk1 ... ?" and "disk (null)" and disk util crashed 2 seconds later (thus why didn't catch all of the message)
3. I turn to the terminal:
bsmith@kanga ~ $ diskutil list

It just hangs.
4. Now I turn off the 'old' drive and look at the terminal (that was hanging). When I turn it off I'm told (through the Hardware Growler Growl extension to show the status of hardware) that the old drive ("Macpower"), the new drive ("OWC") and the RAID disk ("terra") have all unmounted. The diskutil commands follow.

I don't know alot about this output, though its weird that disk2 is still in the list but only shows the GUIDpartitionscheme. And its interesting that disk1 is also in the list but shows 0.0B against the GUIDpartitionscheme for it.
5. Just for kicks I turn off the 'new' drive aswell and run the commands again. When i do it Hardware Growler doesn't say anything has unmounted (I guess since they all did so before).

Now let me run the commands again:
MMM, the exact same result is returned - it didn't hang this time.
It's 21:44, I'll leave this a while and see if the rebuilding continues.

So HELP PLEASE!. Does the above provide enough information to suggest to someone with more knowledge than me about this, what is going on and what can I do to fix this? Let me know if there are any more tests I can run.
I have a backup of the data so can erase and recreate the RAID drive. But what would stop this happening again? Could it have been TechTools Pro 5 which was running when the problem first happened that caused some permanent damage?
Any and all help appreciated.
Thank you,
Brooke

Thanks ridogi and Antonio for your replies,
For clarification, both drives have dual FW 800 to allow them to be connected. No FW 400 involved (I'm not that silly .
I can't say i've done extensive research into setting up RAID drives but I've never come across advice to not use multiple external drives. Here is an extract from a Nov 2007 MacTech article on using RAID for backup:
{quote}
The Desktop Mac User:
The second user I want to look at is the professional who relies on his desktop Mac for his business. He is a lawyer, developer, architect or other professional whose business relies totally on the contents of his computer. If he loses the files on his computer, his business will really suffer. In addition, the time lost when dealing with a failed hard disk is money down the drain. This user relies on a three disk mirror volume. His Mac has two internal SATA disks which are used as the primary and secondary disks of a mirror volume. If one of the disks fails at any given point, the other one will take over and become the new primary disk, so his files are always protected from a hard disk failure. The third disk is an external FireWire disk which is also a secondary disk. It is stored offsite (either at home in a fireproof safe or at another safe location). Every Friday, he brings this third disk into his office and connects it to his desktop Mac. Once this disk is connected, a mirror rebuild starts automatically. He can perform this rebuild as he continues to use his Mac during the day. At the end of the day, when he shuts his Mac down, he disconnects his external secondary disk and returns it to its offsite location. This offsite secondary disk becomes his insurance against his building getting broken into or his building burning down. Like the laptop user, if his Mac gets destroyed, he can just purchase a replacement Mac and then boot up from his external secondary disk. At most, he will use one week's worth of work.
{quote}
So I just assumed it is ok to use external drives. This is discussing a software product called SoftRAID and perhaps that is able to handle the situation. Or perhaps one external drive is ok???
My plan, developed when deciding to buy the Mac Mini April 2009 was to amortize costs by buying external drives first for doing backups and then buying a NAS within 12 months. I guess I should have just gone the NAS.
However ridogi I see you've recommended WiebeTech which don't seem to have NAS devices but DAS (direct attached storage) as the devices are connected directly to a network machine via Firewire etc. (Whereas NAS connects via the Network - I'd connect such a device to the Airport wireless router). Do you prefer DAS over NAS? I guess the downside of NAS is that the complexity is somewhat greater.
And reading http://www.wiebetech.com/just-say-no-to-nas/ they say:
{quote}
Let's face it - Networked or "shared" storage is a great feature but most NAS devices are just too slow for many applications. 3MB/s for a NAS device is common and 10MB/s is considered fast. Direct Attached Storage (DAS) performs much faster while still having the ability to be "shared". The RTX400-QR can transfer data to your computer at speeds exceeding 100MB/s.
{quote}
How can this be? If connected via Gigabit ethernet (128MB/s) then isn't that faster?
Though it is true that if you connect via Wifi then the best speeds you are going to achieve is 6.75 MB/s (802.11g) or 17.5 MB/s (802.11n).
Of course the speed advantages for DAS are only going to be on the machine its connected to as the other machines will connect to it (via the machine its on) over the network anyway!
Why I like the idea of NAS is to move the drives away from the Mini (noise and powerpoint reasons), make it easier to share with other Macs/PCs in the house (including via SMB) and I have a vague hope that this might stop the delay caused by the connected external drives spinning up when an open/save dialog box is activated (or is this just me?!).
Your thoughts appreciated! And thanks for the help so far.
Cheers,
Brooke

• IE7 issue with website

I developed my own website in Dreamweaver CS4 checking browser compatibility and validated all pages for both IE and Firefox. I uploaded my files to my Yahoo hosting account and now that it is live I can not view my home page (index.html) and one other page with IE7 - but all pages are viewable with Firefox. I verified that all my pages have the same header information and can't figure out why only these 2 pages are having an issue. When they load in IE I get a blank white screen with 'done' listed on the bottom left of the browser and not showing any errors.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

As a Yahoo-hosted site, it will never completely validate due to the code Yahoo inserts after the
tag on every page. The validator will help find errors on the rest of the pages, though.
But this particular problem will not be caught by the validator. You have an opening HTML comment in one of your style elements that does not have a matching closing HTML comment. Since using HTML comments inside embedded stylesheets hasn't been need since - oh, what NS 4?, just delete it.
Change this:

/**/
<!--
.center {text-align:center;
to this:

.center {text-align:center;
I found your site and you are missing your icon file:

• IE9 doesn't reflect updated PDF file but instead reflects from cached version

First, I apologise if this issue might be discussed/resolved somewhere, but if you have any solutions/ideas to what my issue might be, please help to share. And thank you in advance.
We have been using/filling PDF forms to generate dynamic FDF data. The URL/path to the PDF file is set inside the text/data of the generated FDF. The PDF file with the FDF data are shown to the browser. But with IE9, the browser always reflects cached version of PDF file, and not the updated version. This is working fine for years in IE6..IE8, the updated PDF file with the dynamic FDF data are shown correctly. But in IE9, the FDF data is dynamically updated but the PDF file still shows the old version, which I think is from the cache.
In my testing, either I emptied the IE’s cache or set the Internet Option to check for newer versions of the page then it will reflects the updated PDF File. I tried Ctrl-F5 (to force refresh) too but no avail. I used Acrobat Reader 9 & 11, both having same problem, running on Windows 7.

Hi Pat. Thanks for your reply.
Actually, I already been checking any IE9 options that might be different from IE8, and tried to change "Security" settings also but still can't get the updated PDF file. Maybe you have in mind where I can specifically check and try out?
I have tried IE10, but also encounter the same problem. sigghhhh
I have been using this for years but no problem, this PDF/FDF document application is developed/created using Acrobat Professional ver6 and FDFtoolkit.

• PL/SQL Debugger and ORA-12541: TNS:no listener

I installed SQL Developer on my PC (Windows XP). I have a connection to my devlopment database on server (Solaris, Oracle 9.2.0.6).
I create a procedure and compile it successfully. Now I want to 'debug' it. I click on the Debugger (ladybug), set my parameter value and click on 'OK' in the Debug PL/SQL window. In the Debugging log I get:
Connecting to the database Banner devl.
Executing PL/SQL: ALTER SESSION SET PLSQL_DEBUG=TRUE
Executing PL/SQL: ALTER SESSION SET PLSQL_COMPILER_FLAGS=INTERPRETED
Executing PL/SQL: CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP( '130.207.xxx.xxx', '4000' )
ORA-30683: failure establishing connection to debugger
ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP", line 68
ORA-06512: at line 1
Process exited.
Disconnecting from the database Banner devl.
What listener is it looking for on my own machine? I don't have J Developer and I'm using a remote database.
I found the thread on setting the 'Prompt for Debugger Host for Database Debugging'. Enabled that and tried debugging again. Got the prompt for entering the IP of the Debugger Host. Tried the database server. So I got:
Connecting to the database Banner devl.
Executing PL/SQL: ALTER SESSION SET PLSQL_DEBUG=TRUE
Executing PL/SQL: ALTER SESSION SET PLSQL_COMPILER_FLAGS=INTERPRETED
Executing PL/SQL: CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP( '130.207.xxx.xxx', '4000' )
ORA-30683: failure establishing connection to debugger
ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP", line 68
ORA-06512: at line 1
Process exited.
Disconnecting from the database Banner devl.
The answer is probably right in front of me, but I just can't see it. Is something mission on the database server?

I am running SQL Developer on Windows XP Professional and I was experiencing the same problem.
When I started the debugger I got the message from Win XP that Windows Firewall will block some features of the program (being the PC at work I don't have admin privileges on it). I accepted this, not knowing which features would be blocked.
Then, the debugger was just hanging. After a while it timed out and came back with exactly this error message.
I restarted the SQLDeveloper and tried again without much success. This time though I didn't get the Windows Firewall message.
After another few trial and errors I figured out that the Firewall must be blocking connection establishement on the client site i.e. on my PC.
It was the CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP that was hanging.
As the system admin disabled the Windows Firewall on my PC the debugger started working. We have a luxury to disable local firewalls as there is one that protects our network from outside traffic. People who cannot afford to disable the Windows firewall will have to tinker with the firewall itself and configure it in such a way that it allows traffic on certain port range (4000...4999). Then in SQLdeveloper you will have to go to Tools->Preferences->Debugger and tick Debugging Port Range. The chosen range should match the port range on the Windows Firewall side.
By the way, in the call to CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP the first parameter is the IP address of your PC and the second one is the port used for debugger connection with the database server. If for some reason the IP address chosen by the debugger is not your IP address (you can find your IP address as follows: Start->Run->cmd; then use command ipconfig), you will have to tick "Prompt for Debugger Host for Database Debugging" on your Debugger Preferences. This way you'll be able to chose the IP address yourself.
Good luck!
