CR 2008 and BOE XI 3.1 patches and fix pack?

I'm installing Crystal Reports 2008 and BOE XI 3.1 on windows 2008 server, can anybody tell me which service pack and fix I need to install for each product?  When I looked under both product, there are so many of them.  Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
Susan Johnson

I have done much testing over the past several months with BOE 3.1 and different patches.  I've yet to find a combination that would allow us to be on a relatively recent patch level but that does not have a significant issue that support cannot resolve.  We started with 3.1 and FixPack 1.8.  This has actually been the most stable so far.  We were planning to convert our production environment from XI r2 to 3.1 in August and thought it would be better to be on a more current patch level so we added SP2 and FixPack 2.6 on the advice of support.  Just before beginning yet another round of testing for these additional patches, SP3 was released so we added that too.  We then found a significant issue with scheduling Crystal reports that had both dynamic and static parameters.  You can't enter the prompts because they don't display the correct LOV.  Support advised that this issue was fixed with FixPack 2.7 so we installed it.  It does indeed resolve the Crystal schedule issue but the issue returns if you install SP3.  SP3 only includes up to FixPack 2.5 and whatever code was fixed in FixPack 2.7 was not rolled into SP3 so I would caution you against using that combination if you have Crystal reports with mixed parameter types and want to schedule them.  We then removed SP3 and have most recently tried SP2 with FixPack 2.7.  In this version, you cannot schedule Webi reports when going through one of the dashboard analytics (vs. the standard folder navigation).  You get a 404 error when you try to populate the prompts.  We have about 2,000 users that rely on a dashboard for navigation so needless to say, we can't go live with this issue.  I would love to know what the best patch level is for 3.1 but I wouldn't recommend SP2 or SP3.

At one point that information could all be found in a huge XML file to support MBSA and HFNetChk by Shavlik.  I haven't looked at the most recent implementation of MBSA but I do know that a later implementation of MBSA forced Shavlik to drop support
for HFNetChk.  I don't know if they have done anything as a substitute.
Here's a description of what I remember (though 2009 sounds later that I would have guessed.)

  • OS and DB Security patches and updates

    Dear Experts,
We are going through SOX audits. Auditor is asking me about applied latest OS and Oracle patches to secure SAP systems from threats and attacks.
I told them that we are running on Solaris 9 with Oracle 9.2.0.5
and our severs are behind CHECKPOINT Firewall, and also we have never faced any security breaches and threats and also not facing any performance and efficiency problems in our system.
However, they still persist me about critical security patches for Solaris and Oracle.
Please tell me should I go for applying security patches of Solaris or Oracle if any. I am very worried about possible problems after applying of those security patches.
Please guide me about this issue and tell me about proven and trusted security patches for Solaris 9 and Oracle 9.2.0.5
    Best Regards

    > I told them that we are running on Solaris 9 with Oracle 9.2.0.5
First I would like to tell you that your current Oracle version is out of extended support (see SAP on Oracle and the notes the first chapter points to). To get actual (security) patches I would highly recommend upgrading to 10.2.0.4.
    > However, they still persist me about critical security patches for Solaris and Oracle.
They do that because most of the "attacks" to server come from internal users, not from external.
    > Please guide me about this issue and tell me about proven and trusted security patches for Solaris 9 and Oracle 9.2.0.5
For the operating system I would use pca (Patch Check Advanced) - a free too to download and install patches - works like charm (http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/). It can be configured to only download and install security relevant patches.
For Oracle you should install the latest patchset (for 9.2 it's 9.2.0.8 and all the necessary interim patches) and the critical patch updates. However, those CPUs may conflict with necessary other patches so you can either use CPU or the necessary interim patches.

SSRS 2008 R2 is extremely slow.  The query runs in less than a second in the dataset designer but if you try to view the report it takes over 10 minutes.  I have read this is a bug in SSRS 2008 R2.  We installed the most recent patches and
service packs.  Nothing we've done so far has fixed it and I see that I'm not the only person with this problem.  However I don't see any answers either.

    Hi Kim Sharp,
According to your description that when you view the report it is extremely slow in SSRS 2008 R2 but it is very fast when execute the query in dataset designer, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can‘t reproduce the issue. Obviously, it is the performance issue, rendering performance can be affected by a combination of factors that include hardware, number of concurrent users accessing reports, the amount
of data in a report, design of the report, and output format. If you have parameters in your report which contains many values in the list, the bad performance as you mentioned is an known issue on 2008 R2 and already have the hotfix:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2276203
Any issue after applying the update, I recommend you that submit a feedback at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/
If you don’t have, you can do some action to improve the performance when designing the report. Because how you create and update reports affects how fast the report renders.
Actually, the Report Server ExecutionLog2  view contains reports performance data. You could make use of below query to see where the report processing time is being spent:
After you determine whether the delay time is in data retrieval, report processing, or report rendering:
    use ReportServer
    SELECT TOP 10 ReportPath,parameters,
TimeDataRetrieval + TimeProcessing + TimeRendering as [total time],
    TimeDataRetrieval, TimeProcessing, TimeRendering,
    ByteCount, [RowCount],Source, AdditionalInfo
    FROM ExecutionLog2
    ORDER BY Timestart DESC
Use below methods to help troubleshoot issues according to the above query result :

  • Crystal Report and SAP BW and BOE Server

    Hi,
I have installed the following on my local PC:
    1) Crystal Report (51038906 CRYSTAL REPORTS 2008 V1 SP3 Win Server on IA32 32bit) on my local machine.
    2) SAP Integration Kits XI 3.1 SP3 (follow Ingo's document, but under the "Component", I only select the "Client" as I installed this on my local machine)
In Crystal Report, I can build new report on top of SAP BW Query. I can save into BW System via menu SAP ->Save as
In Crystal Report, menu File ->Save as, there I have the option Enterprise. When I click on the Enterprise, I can logon and save the crystal report into the BOE folder that I created, but encountered this error:
Failed to commit objects to server:
    Create operation fails
Do you know what's the problem?
At the moment, I have installed BOE XI 3.1 SP2 and SAP Integration Kits XI 3.1 SP2 on the BOE Server. Do you think this is the cause of the problem (I am using SAP Integration Kits XI 3.1 SP3 on my local PC)?
    Any help will be appreciated.

To start with there is no SP1 for XI 3.1
The version number 12.x.y.z can be read as follows:
12 means that you have BusinessObjects XI 3.something
x is the Service Pack Number. If x=1 this means that BOE XI 3.1 is installed. XI 3.1 is considered to be BO XI 3.0 with SP1.
z is the number of fix pack.Note that 0 means that you do not have any Fix Pack installed.
So if you see something like:
    12.2.4.z
you can assume that you have BO XI 3.1 with SP 2 and FIx Pack 2.4 installed
    In your case
    12.1.0.z
means that you have BOE XI 3.1 installed.

  • Compatability of Crystal Reports 2008 with BOE 11.5 - (.rpt output)

    Hi -
I am planning an upgrade to Crystal Reports 2008 to take advantage of capabilities of Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 to modify parameters in reports (ex: posting reports to a shared drive for users to open and modify parameters).
In order to have this functionality in Crystal Reports Viewer (2008), I must create the report in Crystal Reports 2008. My question is: If I create the report in Crystal Reports 2008 and schedule the report to run on Business Objects XI.5, will the users be able to modify parameters in the report file output?
    Thanks

    Hello,
You need BOE XI 3.0 or later for full compatibility with Crystal Reports 2008. The parameters panel will not be displayed in any earlier version.
Also, some Crystal 2008 syntax is not supported in versions of BOE earlier than BOE XI 3.0. Use of such functions will result in report failures when run in older versions of BOE. For example the function hasvalue() is new to Crystal 2008 (checks for empty values in fields) and caused report failure in BOE XI R2 when published.

  • Conflicting Reporting of Patches and Vulnerabilities

I have a number of Windows 2003 R2 servers which are patched using WSUS. I am evaluating network security scanners and am currently testing a device from nCircle. The problem I am having is that
the reports of the scanner are at odds with the reports of WSUS and the Windows update site. I'm not sure how to interpret what I am seeing and hoped someone here might have some insight into what is going on.
A good example of what I am talking about is a reported vulnerability involving the lack of the KB953155 Patch. It is also listed as MS08-062 and deals with Internet printing Integer Overflow Vulnerability.
I saw the vulnerability reported and talked to the person responsible for running WSUS. He checked and WSUS had the patch in inventory and when he checked the report on the server in question it said it's patch levels were up to date and that the
KB was "not applicable". Since we had encountered a problem and had to completely rebuild our WSUS and looking at the age of the patch, we took this as having been installed by the old WSUS. I was a bit confused so I thought I may as well go to the source
and browsed to windowsupdate.microsoft.com from the server in question. This patch was not listed in the needed items.
At that point I returned to the report that I got from the nCircle product and drilled down in the vulnerability it listed. It explained that the test for this is the lack of  a registry key
(HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Updates\Windows Server 2003\sp3\KB953155). I went into regedit and manually checked for the existence of this key and it was indeed missing. I then went to the Microsoft site and manually downloaded and applied the MS08-062 patch to
the server. I then went back to regedit and checked and this time the necessary key was present. I ran the scan again and the vulnerability was no longer listed.
At this point I'm lost. I'm curious about how WSUS and the Microsoft site checks for the existence of a patch on a server. I'm also wondering how the patch could have been
installed by either without the associated registry update.
     Any guidance greatly appreciated

Looking at the details of that particular update, there are two things I notice. Firstly, while the different service pack levels of 2003 are listed individually, there is no mention of this applying to 2003 R2 servers. That said it does still apply to 2008
servers which seems weird if it had been resolved by the time 2003 R2 appeared.
Secondly, if you check the FAQ it states "Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 systems that do not have both IIS and Internet printing installed are not affected and will not receive this update.", so the questions I'd ask are 1) do your 2003 R2 servers
have IIS and Internet Printing installed on them, and 2) how does nCircle determine if the update is required? Does it simply check for the existance of the update, and not also check for its requirement?
In terms of the output from your WSUS reports, I believe the fact that the update is listed as "not applicable" isn't because it is a new installation, but that the update is not relevant to that server. Even with a new WSUS implementation, the report generated
will still show all installed updates for the servers, regardless of them being provided by that WSUS installation, Windows Update or a previous WSUS installation.

  • Difference between Service Pack 5 for CR-XI (R2) and BOE-XI (R2)

    Difference between "Service Pack 5" for CR-XI (R2) and BOE-XI (R2)
    ========
There are two different "Service Pack 5" files available for download...
    CRYSTAL REPORTS XI (R2) = crxir2win_sp5.exe
    BUSINESS OBJECTS ENTERPRISE XI (R2) = boxir2win_sp5.exe
If we have workstations that have both CRYSTAL REPORTS XI and the BUSINESS OBJECTS ENTERPRISE "Client Tools" installed locally on them do I need to run both versions of the "Service Pack 5" - or will running just one (1) of them update all the installed desktop tools...?
    Thanks in advance!

I think the CR patch has client issues only.
The enterrpsie one is sufficient in most cases. Is that CR XIR1 or CR XIR2 client you have installed? Make sure it's CR XIR2 or you could run into issues

I've never really got to grips with it but at least it worked. Now it does not run very well at all. That spinning wheel is driving me mad. 1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • SSO between BI,CE7.1 ENH1 and BOE 3.1

    Hi All,
Our requirement is to do SSO between BI,CE7.1 ENH1 and BOE 3.1. In the BO Integration Kit documentation, it has mentioned trusting the systems between BI and BO and SSO configuration between EP and BO.
I have performed all the steps given in the document even in CE Portal and SSO between CE and BO is not working. In further research, I can find in NWA, the JAVA EE Application u201Ccom.businessobjects.pct.masteriview.paru201D is in explicit stop mode and it is not starting even I try to do manually or restarting the server. Below is the log which states the following for not starting the service
[ERROR CODE DPL.DS.5035] Application [sap.com/com.businessobjects.pct.masteriview] cannot be started. Reason: it has hard reference to resource [jcoclient] with type [SAPPORTAL], which is not active on the server. Hint: 1) Is referred resource deployed? 2) Is referred resource able to start?
Not sure which resource it is looking for and need expertise on the same..Earliest response is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    PradeeP

    HI,
please make sure you check the supported SAP J2EE versions for BusinessObjects here : http://service.sap.com/bosap-support and also remember that the integration is for the portal and you are using CE.

  • UK Public sector : Teachers Pension Patch and Functional Setup

    Hi
I have a query regarding the functional setup for the above. (I am assuming / expecting answer from those who have done this setup already and they know/gone thorugh the patch readme file )
I am trying to use the code provided in the patch readme file to findout correct tier for pension contribution..In order to do that I need the Annual FTE Salary inside fast formula.
    The patch readme says ,
Once the Formula has retrieved the pension contribution Rate, it needs to be
applied to the actual earnings in the period.
    l_tps_emp_contr_sal = FULL_TIME_ANNUAL_SALARY_TPS_ASG_TRANSFER_PTD
However I am getting zero value for FULL_TIME_ANNUAL_SALARY_TPS_ASG_TRANSFER_PTD.
i.e. l_tps_emp_contr_sal is zero which is being passed to
    l_EE_Contribution_Percent = to_number(GET_TABLE_VALUE
    ('PQP_TPA_PENSIONABLE_PAY_RANGE',
                                       'Employee Contribution Rate',
                                       to_char(l_tps_emp_contr_sal)))
    and nothing is coming up.....
How do I get the correct value of FULL_TIME_ANNUAL_SALARY_TPS_ASG_TRANSFER_PTD ?
    The readme says following
    FTE Salary/Amount
The Annual salary is the Gross Full Time Equivalent salary based on which the
band should be decided. There can be multiple elements per assignment that
could be populating this value and each element may have different
    configurations for example:
    a. Element may have annual value from which a period value is calculated
    b. Period value to be paid
The above this can be further classified based on
    a. usage of working pattern or working hours
    b. Full time salary
    c. Part time salary.
    a. One time payment on which Annualisation may not be applied but FTE should
    be applied.
    b. One time payment on which Annualisation may be applied but FTE should
    not be applied.
    c. Annual Value on which FTE should be applied.
    d. Annual Value on which FTE should not be applied
There are many more variants to the scenarios described above.
To achieve the calculation of the Gross Annual Full Time Equivalent salary
for all possible scenarios the seeded element FTE Annualised Pay should be
    used by the customer.
In order for the Pension contribution rate to be determined, the FTE annual
salary effective at the period in question, must be available.
It is presumed that the FTE value will be available for the current elements
that customer uses for paying the teachers as it would be needed to determine
the actual payment value for the period.
This value will be fed to the new seeded element (FTE Annualised Pay) by the
    individual element formula.
Suggested changes for determining Annual Full Time value:
Suggested changes in elements formula for determining Annual Full Time value:
The following statements should be added to the existing earnings element
formula. These are suggested changes to the existing formulae to derive the
    Annual FTE salary.
Case 1: If the Element Formula has access to Annual FTE Value.
    return_Annual_inf = ANNUAL_VALUE
/*Assign Annual FTE Value for this element to variable return_Annual_inf*/
Case 2: If the Element formula has access to only to Period value and
Annual FTE Value is not stored anywhere.
    return_Annual_inf = (PERIOD_VALUE * PAY_STATUTORY_ANNUAL_PERIODS)
/* Assign Period Full time Value for this element multiplied by standard
DBI for annual periods to local variable return_Annual_inf */
Case 3: If the Element formula has access to only to Annual Part time value
and Annual FTE Value is not stored anywhere.
    return_Annual_inf = ANNUAL_VALUE / ASG_FTE_VALUE
/* Assign Period Full time Value for this element multiplied by standard

Case 4: If the Element formula has access to only to Period Part time value
and Annual FTE Value is not stored anywhere.
    return_Annual_inf=(PERIOD_VALUE*PAY_STATUTORY_ANNUAL_PERIODS)/ASG_FTE_VALUE
/* Assign Period Full time Value for this element multiplied by standard
DBI for annual periods then divided by standard DBI for FTE to local
    variable return_Annual_inf */
    Note:
The new local variable return_annual_inf should be returned from formula to
the new seeded information element FTE Annualized Pay.

    Hi
I recently did an evaluation of this patch, and I did get it to work; however, in order to do so I needed to amend some other formulas for e.g. calculation of salary, so that the annualised FTE figure was returned from the formula. This was then referenced in the formula result rules for the annual salary element, to feed that new result to the seeded element provided in the patch ('FTE Annualised Pay'). That then fed the balance.
It's a major headache as you will have to similarly amend all formulas/result rules pertaining to elements that could form part of the reckonable pay for this calculation.
Where I am, we won't be using it as we had to come up with our own solution to stand any chance of being 'legal' in time for April.
    Hope this is of use
    Clive
