CR 9 Ignores Formatting

Using Crystal Reports 9, I am unable to set formatting on number fields. (including dollar sign display/alignment) Reports are generated through Active Data (Field Definitions Only) with the datasource being ms access or sql server through oledb. If I populate the ttx with sample data and preview, the formatting is correct. Generating the report through vb at runtime always ignores formatting. For example, a field defined as Number in the ttx file should be formatted as 1234 but instead is displayed as 1,234 regardless of formatting applied at design time. The strange thing is, this issue does not ocurr on my old workstation. The new OS is 64 bit, but I wouldn't expect that to be a problem. So far, I have applied all service packs and available monthly hot fixes to no avail. Also, seeing strange issue with crosstab not displaying on new workstation. This turned out to be the use of a month function as a group or column.

Thank you kindly for your answer. I was aware of this solution and had previously used this technique on a report with the formatting issue. While this approach does solve the problem, it is merely a workaround for an underlying bug or program flaw...one which the developer (Business Objects) should have been aware of and one that should have a fix posted. This solution would be acceptable for a small number of reports, or if I was in the creation process, however, I have hundreds of reports that still work and format correctly on other workstations, most importantly the reports distributed to customers do not display this behavior. A previous poster having the same issue may have provided a clue, having the same issue with CR XI. In fact, the workstations displaying this behavior have side-by-side installations of CR 9 and CR XI. Given the fact that the reports format and display correctly for customer's applications, (using CR 9 runtime) this issue is more of an inconvenience in development/maintenance, having to test the report on another workstation, which is not always possible if I am traveling. I just want CR 9 to display the fields with the formatting I have set in the Format Editor, or in other words, I want it to work like it is supposed to.

  • Preview: Table of Contents is ignoring formatting

    Preview is missing a feature. Before going further I’ll admit it is a minor feature, but nonetheless, the omission needles me. The bug description below is deliberately thorough, to allow other to reproduce the problem and variations of it.
    PDFs exhibiting the problem have been made with the following 18 lines of PostScript.
    /PageWidth 72 def  /PageHeight 432 def
    << /PageSize [PageWidth PageHeight] >> setpagedevice
    /FontNames [  /Times-Roman  /Times-Italic  /Times-Bold  /Times-BoldItalic  ] def

        mark  /Action /GoTo /Dest FontName  /Title FontNameText  /F i  /OUT  pdfmark
        showpage
    } for
    The PostScript is also available at http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/bugs/20130918_Preview_Bug.ps
    I have converted the PostScript to PDF using Adobe Distiller 8 (the latest version on my Mac), to make
    http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/bugs/20130918_Preview_Bug_Adobe8.pdf
    and also with the GhostScript installed at PS2PDF.com to make
    http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/bugs/20130918_Preview_Bug_PS2PDF.pdf
    The relevant line of the PostScript ends “/F i  /OUT  pdfmark”, which makes an ‘Outline’ item, that is, an item which appears with View > Table of Contents. Observe the “/F i”, which sets the formatting, over the four pages i looping from 0 to 3 in steps of 1. This /F defines the Formatting: 0 = Plain, 1 = Italic, 2 = Bold, 3 = Bold and Italic; as explained on page of 27 of http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdfmarkReference_v9.pdf
    Viewed in Preview 6.0.1 (765.6) on OS X 10.8.4 this looks like
    http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/bugs/20130918_Preview_Bug_Preview.png
    Oops: formatting ignored. Me needled.
    But in Adobe Professional 8 the two PDFs look like:
    http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/bugs/20130918_Preview_Bug_Adobe8_Acrobat.png
    http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/bugs/20130918_Preview_Bug_PS2PDF_Acrobat.png
    Much about the Acrobat is messier than Preview, but it does correctly display this aspect of the PDF. Please could Preview do so as well?
    Going back to the PostScript one could also add something like “/Color [0 0.6 0]”, which would set the colour of the text to dark green. That seems to be ignored by both Preview and Adobe Pro 8 (I don’t have v11 to test). Again, a fix would be welcomed.
    And why do I care? Because the long PostScript program I maintain (see www.jdawiseman.com/placemat.html for manual and code) uses these features.

  • Finder stalling/freezing (beachball 10mins.)

    Lately, I have been having problems with my iMac (Late 2006, 24", 2.16GHz) and I am very puzzled about the cause of it (plus how to fix it). Mac OS X 10.6.8, updated last week via Software Update.
    Not sure if it's related but first had Pages (Mac App Store version) crash when I tried to open a simple AppleWorks word processing document (nothing fancy in it). I then opened the WP doc in AppleWorks, opened Pages and a blank doc (portrait format). Copied all the text from the AWks doc, switched to Pages and pasted it into Pages, and saved the doc as a Word (.doc) file, on an external drive. Then save the open file in Pages as a Pages document. Quit Page, quit AppleWorks. At about that point, the Finder shows the spinning beachball, then the menubar disappears. I relaunched the Finder (said "Not responding" in the Dock), but the Finder wouldn't restart. Had to shut down. Decided to leave it alone for a while and just use my ancient PowerBook Firewire (aka Pismo).
    Later, I start up my iMac again, and I get a message that the (external) disc was 'not put away correctly' (okay...). I had some queued printer files and went to print those - the first document printed, then the printer went offline. I turned it off, waited, then turned it back on. Still offline on the printer. I restarted the iMac, without other discs attached. (Side thing, the Apple Wireless keyboard seems intermittent about working, possibly the rechargeables don't last long)
    I started back up, and ran Disk Utility, get the 'disc not put away' message (again..), and the Finder stalls, Apple-Option-Escape doesn't pull up the usual dialog box. Had to turn off the iMac to get out of it.
    I got in a Hitachi 500GB SATA drive (had a SATA/USB 2.0 enclosure for it to go into), formatted it and had Carbon Copy Cloner back up my (230GB external) startup drive to the Hitachi (left it going overnight to get done). (By the way, my iMac does not have internet connection at home - have to haul it to local WiFi to do updates/Mac App Store downloads)
    I come back to the iMac this morning, restart from the Hitachi (power was already on) and go to back it up to my Time Machine (external 1TBdrive). When I check how it's doing, I see "Indexing backup" in the TM pull-down menu. While I'm waiting, I plug in the USB cable for my printer (had turned it off, waited and turned back on again). The Time Machine icon in the menubar stops its animation/turning. When I try to click on the TM icon, I get the spinning beachball again. After that, anything else I attempt to do in Finder does not respond - nor does the Dock when I try to see about restarting the Finder.(!)
    Also, the internal 230GB in the iMac died, so I have been booting up from the external 230GB (which was cloned from the internal before it croaked, and has been updated since then a couple of time (Software Update). I had installed the SMC fan control program, as I suspect this particular iMac's design was flawed and the heat buildup likely contributed to the internal disc's dying. When I start up, I frequently get an message (about the internal dead drive) that "This drive is not readable. Initialize - Ignore - Format" (close to that), and usually tell the iMac to ignore the drive (until I can get the 500GB swapped in for the dead drive).
    Current drives list:
    Usual startup drive - was the external 230GB (I think it's a WDC); as of today, was using the Hitachi SATA 500GB in the USB 2.0 enclosure
    Time Machine backup drive - Seagate 1TB FreeAgent Pro (FireWire)
    Other drives connected (at times):
    OWC Neptune 160GB external, ATA/IDE (FireWire)
    OWC Mercury-To-Go 120GB ATA/IDE (2.5" drive) (FireWire/USB)
    So I'm not sure if the printer is causing the Finder problems (or vice versa), or if the iMac is just possessed.. :-P
    And please don't tell me to go get a new Mac - don't have that kind of money available.
    All reasonable help/suggestions will be appreciated
    Jim

    Thanks for the info about new iMacs - will save me from that mistake (Why do they have to mess with things - just to keep someone buying another Mac instead of simply fixing what was wrong with the one they already have?).
    I have tried booting with the Snow Leopard install DVD (this model of iMac came with 10.4.something, so I need to run the hardware test from that to see if there's something more than the internal drive that isn't working right). Went through Disk Util.'s repair disc as well as repair permissions, and DU told me the disc 'appears to be OK' (wondered - did their legal dept. told them *not* to clearly say it was okay...?), but have had problems after that 'repair'.
    Will go back and try safe boot again, and see if it helps. (Even booting up seems slower lately...)
    Maybe I'll hunt down that (slightly used) MacBook Pro and just switch over totally to that...

  • Can report print clob and interpret the content

    Hi,
    we use reports and forms 9i on Linux.
    During the development of our application we faced one problem:
    users were using MS Word prior to our solutions, so they are used to manipulate with text( bold, underline, font....). We tried to enable them to use such attributes using CLOB field where we saved, for example, rtf formated text ( using java bean). It looks nice on the screen, but now we are facing the problem of printing such report. Oracle reports see this CLOB field as text ignoring formating.
    Is it posible to tell oracle reports to interpret content of the fiels using formating that is already saved in CLOB?
    I read about XML Publisher, but it is not a solution, because every time you have to print report, you have to edit it. Editing is not saved.
    Any suggestion would be appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Ozren Pestic

    Hi Zwired1,
    Just to make sure I fully understand the situation - I am assuming since you say you are printing to two different printers that when you are using the Print Report.vi you are using the printer name string to specify which printer you would like to print on. And if the printer that you specify is not functioning it automatically prints on the other printer, is that correct?
    From looking at the code in the Print Report.vi, it looks like if you specify a printer name in the input string, if there is a problem with that printer or if that printer is unavailable, the VI should not print anything, so please let me know if that is not the behavior you are seeing.
    For your question about checking the health of printers, there is a VI in the report gen toolkit called Query Available Printers. You can find it if you open up the Print Report.vi and choose the Standard Report instance, the Query Available Printers.vi is on the block diagram of that VI. It will return the list of available printers and the default printer.
    I hope that helps,

  • SetInterval and XML Load Problem

    Hello,
    I 'm having the simple problem of making sure the XML is
    loaded before beginning the Interval sequence. Therefore it is
    missing some of the XML data when loading. See example:
    http://alt.coxnewsweb.com/statesman/img/advertising/_jacob/Site1/products.html
    I tried a success boolean with the XML onLoad Handler, but my
    setInterval stopped working. I could easily just not know how to
    properly implement XML onLoad.
    Can someone help me out with properly loading the XML
    document before the setInterval is initiated.
    Thank You - Jacob
    Here is the Working Code of the example given...
    //New XML Object
    var mydata:XML = new XML();
    //ignores formatting of XML files tabs, returns, ect.
    mydata.ignoreWhite = true;
    //Setup onLoad Function
    mydata.onLoad = loadXML;
    //Loads actual XML Data File
    mydata.load("data.xml");
    //setInerval Vars
    var intervalId:Number;
    var count:Number = 1;
    var maxCount:Number = 20;
    var duration:Number = 100;
    //Thumbnail Position Vars
    var originalx:Number = 20;
    var originaly:Number = 55;
    currentx = originalx;
    currenty = originaly;
    var i:Number = 0;
    //Create Thumbnails Interval
    function thumbInterval():Void {
    //trace(i);
    //Controls # of Thumbnails per line
    if ((i % 5 == 0) && (i > 0)) {
    currenty += 125;
    currentx=originalx;
    //Attatch Library MC
    _root.attachMovie("thumbnailMC", "thumbnailMC" + i, 1000 +
    i);
    //Load Image, text, and position
    _root["thumbnailMC" + i].thumbnailname =
    mydata.firstChild.childNodes
    .childNodes[0].firstChild.nodeValue;
    _root["thumbnailMC" + i].textbox.productdescr =
    mydata.firstChild.childNodes.childNodes[1].firstChild.nodeValue;
    _root["thumbnailMC" + i]._x = currentx;
    _root["thumbnailMC" + i]._y = currenty;
    currentx += 130;
    i++
    if(count >= maxCount) {
    clearInterval(intervalId);
    count++;
    intervalId = setInterval(this, "thumbInterval",
    duration);

    Please use the attach code option to post your code. bracket
    i bracket is seen as italic by this forum.
    And where is the loadXML function?
    The xml is loaded when the onLoad event gets fired. Your
    loadXML() is the place where you want to call a function that
    initiates the interval.

  • JSpinner generates multiple change events

    Having problem with JSpinner generating two change events when using double values in the model. It looks like the number editor formatter is causing an event to be generated before it rounds and after it rounds.
              final JSpinner s = new JSpinner(
                   new SpinnerNumberModel(20.0, 0.0, 100.0, 0.0025));
              s.setEditor(new JSpinner.NumberEditor(s, "###0.000"));
              // When value is changed, need to process certain events.
              s.addChangeListener(new ChangeListener() {
                   public void stateChanged(ChangeEvent event) {
                        System.out.println("New Value:" + s.getValue());
              JFrame f = new JFrame("Test Spinner");
              f.getContentPane().setLayout(new java.awt.BorderLayout());
              f.getContentPane().add(s, java.awt.BorderLayout.CENTER);
              f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              f.setSize(331, 254);
              f.setVisible(true);If you modify the editor to use the following format, you can see that the two events are not generated because the formatter does not need to round:
    "###0.000##############"I have to actually modify the model to round the incremented or decremented value to a precision where the formatter will not round the value, which is a pretty messy solution.
    Are there any other workarounds (or solutions) that are a little more elegant?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply.
    This workaround reduces the amount of duplicate events, but I still see double change events that make it through the filter.
    You have to filter events to get the relevant one.

  • Mac mini core2 duo 10.7.2 not seeing files on usb external drives - mac formatted - ownership ignored-  until finder refresh - any idea

    finder has problems showing folders& files on external drives on mac mini with 10.7.2
    this is affecting 2 external usb drives both mac formatted - ownership ignored
    i click on the drive and see nothing
    a refresh of the finder window will make the files appear
    if i click on a disclosure arrow, the arrow turns down but no files are displayed
    if i double click on the folder it opens that folder in an empty view - a refresh will bring the files visible
    interestingly if i eject the drive and plug back it , it will usually display the contents of folders already visited last time but not folders i hadn't looked at - they require a refresh
    programs such as iTunes can link to those files when they are not visible in finder
    anyone else run into this - any suggestions

    John -I'm pretty sure it the mac mini thats having the issue
    the two drives - each with their own cable - seem to work perfectly with my other mac
    the mac mini is having no problem reading the files itunes and other programs access the files on the drives without a problem
    its just the finder is not displaying the files without a refresh of the view

  • OBIEE 11g ignoring custom styles after a space in the formatting

    Hi,
    Has anyone else ran into this odd little problem?
    I'm applying custom styles to our new corporate skin, and it's all working just fine until I enter a piece of code like this:
    .QCPageColumnSectionSidebar{padding-bottom:1px;width:100%;border:solid 1px #000080;background-color:#dce4f9;}
    It appears that as soon as OBIEE encounters the spaces in the CSS formatting, it escapes and ignores the rest. In this case, the border gets applied, but the background color does not. If I swap places of the two classes, then the background color is applied and the border is not.
    In addition, any styles defined after this style are ignored.
    When I inspect element in Firebug, I am seeing this behavior coming through on the presentation side. The CSS that follows the style with a space in it isn't appearing.
    The styles defined by default have very similar styles and they appear to work; does anyone have any idea why my custom styles aren't?
    Thanks in advance,
    Krista

  • FDMEE - ignore dimension in import format

    Hi,
    Is it possible to ignore or exlude a defined dimension in the "Target Application" in the import format definition?  I am trying to create an import format (File, Delimited) that ignores Cost Center and Product because the target plan type does not use those dimensions.

    I am not an expert in FDM but my advise is that If you are ignoring it then probably you might have to load the totals of Product, CostCenter if not your numbers will be wrong

  • OSA : Offline appraisal HAP_PDF_OFFLINE_FORM ignores text formatting

    Hi,

However, the formatting and alignment of the text is ignored when downloaded or printed in the adobe form. Is there a workaround to this ? Thank you.

       Hi Kir Chern,
       Thanks for these SAP Notes. Our system has them implemented (7.31SP6)
       Finally I correct these tags on method "CHANGE_FIELD_VALUE" at BAdI "FP_EXTENSION_FIELD_VALUE". We can "correct" these tags at BAdI "HRHAP00_SMARTFORMS" before calling the function module behind the adobe form, but it is more efficient doing it at the first one.
       Thanks a lot for your answers... I'll reward you points, but it's your thread...

  • PDF export format options are ignored when exporting

    I can't get the PDF export format options to work.  No exception is thrown; it's as though the export format options are simply ignored.  In broad terms, the relevant code looks like this:
    ExportOptions exportOptions = new ExportOptions();
    exportOptions.setExportFormatType(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
    PDFExportFormatOptions pdfExportOptions = new PDFExportFormatOptions();
    pdfExportOptions.setCreateBookmarksFromGroupTree(true);
    exportOptions.setFormatOptions(pdfExportOptions);
    ByteArrayInputStream byteArrayInputStream =
        (ByteArrayInputStream)reportClientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(exportOptions);
    Other options (setting start and end pages for export) are also ignored.
    Curiously, I am able to apply export format options just fine for other formats; e.g. when setting the export format type to ReportExportFormat.characterSeparatedValues and using a CharacterSeparatedValuesExportFormatOptions object as appropriate, I am able to set options like delimiter and separator just fine.
    How can I prevent the PDF export format options from being ignored?

    hi
    Are you using RAS or Crystal Report runtime? and what's the version? It might be a bug. Have you tried:
    ByteArrayInputStream byteArrayInputStream =
        (ByteArrayInputStream)reportClientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
    and does it work?

  • Apex_mail.send / HTML formatting Ignored When Sent via Trigger

    I have a PL/SQL procedure that sends a formatted email using the apex_mail.send procedure. This procedure works 100% perfectly if I run the procedure either from a scheduled job (using dbms_scheduler), or when I siimply call the procedure "ad hoc" from the APEX SQL Editor. However, when the exact same procedure gets invoked/called from a DB trigger, some of the formatting instructions get ignored with regards to font face and font size. I am stumped by this. Any ideas?
    BTW, I'm using APEX 4.2.
    Thanks in advance

    Sorry totally my fault - no issue at all... more a problem with the tester! users with an external email address are receiving the email it just seems when the email is sent from Apex standalone is appears in the inbox but when it is sent from within an iframe it is sent straight to the junk mail by the email client... still a little strange there is a difference in behaviour but at least it doesn't totally fail as I first thought.
