CR2 files and Elements 12

I have a Canon EOS 70D and Elements 12 (bought and downloaded today) won't open the CR2 files. How can this be rectified? I normally shoot in RAW for best quality.

Help> Updates will update ACR to v8.4  and add support for the 70D.

  • 60D CR2 files and Photoshop Elements

Upgraded from 20D to 60D. My Photoshop Elements v. 8 will not open  the CR2 files. Elements says it doesn't recognize format. Do I need a newer version?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

More than likely you do. You can check the Adobe site for the necessary update to Camera RAW but in general Adobe only lets you update the last one or 2 versions of Elements or even the full Photoshop package.

  • Can't open cr2 files in Elements 11 - win 7 64 - canon eos M2

I can't open my cr2 files in Elements or in Corels Aftershot Pro2. They open in Canon's digital photo pro but that's not much help.
    Any ideas?

"As has been stressed before," - but not to me and I never imagined that there was any "present converting software that can edit the raw files from cameras which will be issued tomorrow". What I did imagine was that old software is updated to include newer and newer cameras and this seems to be the case.
It's in my first post : "Since each new camera model has its own raw format," but I admit that the camera raw format is totally counter-intuitive, which explains why this questions is the most common in the Adobe feedback forum: Photoshop Family Customer Community.
The technical problem is that the ACR module is not totally an independent module you could update without updating the whole Elements version. If you look at the list of required ACR version for different Elements versions, you can see that the ACR version may be updated to a certain point, but that may depend on your OS version. Adobe's solution with the DNGconverter has pros and cons. It's an additional step, yes, but when you deal with large batches, it's less of a problem. Also some may find the DNG conversion useful. My raw files are 32 GB, when converted to DNG they are reduced in size and the time to open them is reduced. I like the ability to 'lossly compress' them, which is a much better solution than saving to jpeg.

  • Cannot open CR2 files in Elements 7

    Hi,
I'm trying to open CR2 files in Elements downloaded from my Cannon 50D camera. Message says it's the wrong type of file. I've updated all the plugins, downloaded 5.4 and follow as many forums as possible but still no luck.
    Can anyone please help?
    Many thanks

Where do you get the error message?  When you import a raw file into the Organizer, or when you try to edit it?
In the Editor, do Help > System Info.  What is the version shown for "Camera Raw"? Is more than one version shown?

  • Is it possible to backup my work done in Lightroom 4 to include my original cr2 files and changes?

I want to transfer some of my older work to an external hard drive, but I don't want to lose all the adjustments I made and would almost like to be able to pick up where I left off in the event I want to come back and continue to process images more or delete previous changes, etc.  Is this possible?  If so, how do I export to include all the files I would need to do this?  I've read about cr2 files and their sidecars, xmp files, but I'm not sure if this is what I'm looking for.  Also, how do you bring back in these cr2 files with an xmp?  Does Lightroom automatically read the xmp files and apply them to the appropriate cr2 file?  They both would have to be imported at the same time?  Thanks!

It seems to me that 'Export as catalog' is what you are looking for.
After selecting the pictures you want to export, select 'File' -> 'Export as catalog'. There are  several options to choose from, such as whether to include the actual files (cr2 in your case) which is what you want to do and whether to include the preview files. You can also indicate where to save the new catalog, so you can indicate the external drive you intend to use.
You will end up with a new catalog containing your selected files and all adjustments you have made to them. You will not have to worry about the xmp sidecars, this will be taken care of by Lightroom.
    Hope this helps!

  • Exporting .cr2 files from elements as jpgs

i know that jpgs are flattened images and that raw files are complex images  i know how the aspects of raw files are editable but jpgs are not.  but what i don't know is why when in elements, and aperture for that matter, when saving my raw (CR2 files) as jpgs for customers, they go from 12 megs in size to 2 megs.  the  EXPORT function is not available for some reason.  Shouldn't I be able to export a raw file as a large jpg file?

Your jpegs should be the same size in terms of pixel dimensions, but saving as a jpeg will usually make the file size quite a bit smaller because of jpeg compression.

Are you talking about Export in the Editor or Organizer?

  • Open Canon 6D, CR2 files in Elements 10

I recently upgraded my camera to the Canon 6D. Took loads of great pictures only to find that when I tried to open them in Elements 10 the programme didn't support them!!!
I've search and trolled through every forum I can find lookong for a solution, to no avail! Can some one please help or do I simply just have to upgrade (again) to Elements 11?
Thanks for any help I may receive in advance, furious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to the supported cameras list, the 6D was first supported by ACR 7.3, which is newer than PSE10:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
You can buy PSE12 which comes with ACR 8.x, or you can convert your CR2 files to DNGs, a folder at a time, with the free DNG Converter 8.2 and open them with the older Elements ACR plug-in.
The DNG Converter is available from the Adobe Updates page:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html
I’d suggest downloading the trial for PSE12 and make sure it works on your system before paying for it.

  • Problems with opening Canon T4i CR2 files in elements 10

I have a cannon rebel T41 and Adobe elements ver 10, ive been taking photos in RAW format but cannot open them in the elements software, the files are saved as a CR2 file can anybody help please.

The T4i was first supported by ACR 7.1.  The last ACR version supported by PSE10 is ACR 6.7.
This means you need to update your PSE to 11 or 12 to work with T4i CR2 files.  Or maybe buy Lightroom, which is about the same price as Elements but contains all the raw adjustments not just the few in the Element’s-hosted ACR plug-in.

  • Cannot open CR2 files in Elements 8 or Bridge

Hi, I hope someone can help me! I shoot in RAW, and have always edited my pictures in Camera RAW via Elements 8. I recently upgraded my old Dell to a new Mac, and now I'm having trouble. I cannot seem to open the RAW files in Elements, this is what I get when I try to open a file with Camera Raw (I know it says Photoshop Raw, but I do have Camera Raw selected):
When I try to open a RAW file in Adobe Bridge, it's not even an option, it's grayed out. BUT, it will let me open jpegs in Camera Raw in Adobe Bridge! So confusing. So far I have tried updating the Camera Raw plug in. I followed the directions exactly, but no dice. When I look at the "about plug in" section on PSE, it shows that it is the updated version, 6.2.0.29. But when I look at a jpeg in Camera Raw through Adobe Bridge, it says Camera Raw version 5.0.
Any ideas? I have a camera full of RAW files waiting to be edited and I'm so frustrated. Any help will be much appreciated!

You can update ACR in PSE i farther than you can update ACR in bridge (adobe cut bridge off as soon as CS 5 came out, but PSE 8 got a few more updates).
You don't mention the camera model.Photoshop raw and camera raw are two different things. How are you opening these files? You do know that you don't need to mess with the format section of the open window? Just select the file you want and it will set itself to the right format for you, so ignore that.

  • Unable to open CR2 file in elements 11

Everytime I try to open a CR2 file i get an error saying
"could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.  Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional info."
I am shooting with a Canon 6D and Canon 60D so I know the camera models are supported.  I have already updated to the 7.1 version of Camera Raw.
I have been trying to look for solutions for about two weeks now with no success... PLEASE HELP!!!

Make sure you're online with a good connection, open PS 11, click on the Help menu and select "Updates.." on the bottom.  The rest should be automatic.  It should upgrade you to 7.4.

  • D5100 NEF files and Elements 9

  • I cant open CR2 files in elements 8

I have a new Canon 60D so excited until I go to edit my pics and itsays PSE8 does not recognise the CR2 files please help

If that camera is a new model, it migh not be supported as a RAW file in PSE8.
The latest version of Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) that's useable in PSE8 is version 6.2.
Here's a list of the supported cameras and the version of ACR needed:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
If your PSE8 can't use the appropriate ACR version, use the Adobe DNG converter:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5375
to convert the CR2 files to the DNG format, which you can then use.

  • I have PS6, and could happily upload CR2 files from my Canon EOS 6D AS CR2 files and could manipulate these in bridge. When I purchased a Canon 1Dx this was not possible - despite downloading plug ins it still converts my files to dng or jpegs - how do I

CR2 files for pr-manipulation in bridge.

The T1i was first supported by Camera Raw 5.4 which is only compatible with CS4 and later

  • Hello, I have been using lightroom for a few years, always uploading with cr2 files and all of a sudden it wont read my cr2 files to import. how could I fix this

Hi, I always import cr2 files to lightroom and just the other day it stopped letting me import, Nothing has changed in the files, I have previously imported them but only at their existing file source.

What version of Lightroom are you using?
    What OS are you using?
Have you purchased a new camera?
Are the raw files from the same camera that you imported files from previously?
