CR2 in PE5

how do i open canon raw CR2 in elements 5?

this site says only 8,7,6,4,3
I would copy it here but this forum does not like copy and paste
thanks all

Depending on your camera model, you might be able to open your CR2 by downloading and installing Adobe Camera Raw 4.6, which is the last version that work with PSE5. If your camera is too new and will not work with ACR 4.6, then you would need to download and install both ACR 4.6 and the DNG converter (which does indeed work with ACR 4.6, which works with PSE5)

I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1.  An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6.  If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates.  If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.

  • Can some help with CR2 files ,Ican`t see CR2 files in adobe bridge

can some help with CR2 files ,I can`t see CR2 files in adobe bridge when I open Adobe Photoshop cs5- help- about plugins- no camera raw plugins. When i go Edit- preference and click on camera raw  shows message that Adobe camera raw plugin cannot be found

That's strage. Seems that the Camera Raw.8bi file has been moved to different location or has gone corrupt. By any chance did you try to move the camera raw plugin to a custom location?
Go To "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats" and look for Camera Raw.8bi file.
If you have that file there, try to download the updated camera raw plugin from the below location.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5371&fileID=5001
In case  you ae not able to locate the Camera Raw.8bi file on the above location, then i think you need to re-install PS CS5.

  • Can't open .CR2 files in PhotoShop CS5, Camera RAW or Adobe DNG Converter

Firstly take note I shot these with a Canon EOS 450D (or Rebel XSi)...
I see a lot of answers speaking about having the most up to date version of the Camera RAW Plug-in.
I have a similar issue with my .CR2 files... I cannot open them in Camera RAW because it tells me that my camera model or make is not supported by the Plug-in, and so I was directed by other forums to just try converting the .CR2 files to .DNG. I already had the Adobe DNG Converter (version 6.5 I believe), so I tried this. It too told me that my files or camera make were not supported.
However, I have always been able to successfully both open my .CR2 files AND convert them to .DNG. I had not updated anything on my camera nor on my Adobe programs and for some reason this last attempt to open RAW files failed me... I have no idea what change would have led to it. Luckily I shot in both RAW and Large JPG but I certainly don't want to rely on my JPGs of course... Any idea why this problem might have arisen now if it had always worked easily in the past?
    Thanks!

Are these the same exact files you've opened before that you cannot now open?
Or are they newly copied files (camera or CF card to computer)?
Can you not open ANY Canon 450D files, even those you find online and download?
What I'm getting at with these questions is to try to eliminate or suspect data corruption of the files on your disk.
Exactly what versions of the various tools do you have, specifically (don't guess - go check)?

  • I can't open .CR2 files in Photoshop CS4

I'm unable to get the .CR2 files from my new Canon Rebel T3i to open in Photoshop CS4.  I just got this camera and I never had this problem with my old camera (Rebel Xsi).  The raw files from the Xsi will still open, but not the ones from the new camera.  Can anyone help me understand why this is happening?
    Thanks,   Jo

Just to be perfectly accurate, that would be two options.
To use the free Adobe DNG converter, you would download and install the very latest version then whenever you want to edit raw images you'll go through a process something like this:
    1.  Upload the .cr2 files from your camera into a folder on your hard drive.
    2.  Run the DNG Converter application and select the folder (it works on folders, not files).
    3.  Convert all the .cr2 files to .dng files.
    4.  Open the .dng files into Photoshop CS4 through the Camera Raw dialog.

  • Can't open CR2 files in photoshop and camera raw

This weekend I rented a Canon 5D Mark iii. I have downloaded the files and all of the thumbnails in camera raw say CR2 and when I try to open Photoshop does not recognize this product.
    I have:
    Photoshop CS4
    Camera Raw CS4
    Canon 5D Mark ii
I have checked my updates folder and all my updates are current. Do I need to upgrade to CS5 or is there a way around this?

Hi I recently had a problem opening CR2 files in PHotoshop cs4. I had to reinstall into a new computer, so obviously it installed the basic programme and not the updates.
After trying everything, even calling the help desk, there was apparently nothing that can be donw as they no longer support cs4.
I kept trying and found a you tube video, which i cant find again to add the link but i followed the link and with what I did earlier I can now open CR2 files in my photoshop cs4
I found the relevany update that I needed to install and downloaded it, camera raw 5.2 ( Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 5.2 update )  this is the one for the Canon 5d Mk2
After downloading it would not update the progeramme so I was in the same possition, but i noticed the files were there and i just needed to put them in the right place in photoshop so carried on looking for were to put the Plus In.
This led me to the video.
    To the point.
Download the update and save to a location where you will remember.
open Adobe photoshop and go to "edit"
    Them " Preferences "
    then "General "
    Then " Plus-Ins"
At the top you will see " Add Plug-Ins Folder " Check this box then navigate to the "win64" ( this is because mine is a windows 64 bit computer and the download is specific ) and Choose it.
Shut down photo shop and try to open a raw.
Bridge doesnt work for some reason but im going to keep looking.
Hope this works for you as well.

  • Can't open CR2 files in PhotoShop CC. Raw plugin version is 8.3.0.141. MacBook Pro OS 10.9

I'm trying to open .CR2 files (Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS) with PhotoShop CC on my Mac. When I try to open them I get an error saying the file can't be opened. The raw plugin version is 8.3.0.141. Adobe's charts say I need at least "4.6,5.1" so I would assume my version should open it. What gives?

First thing I should do is to link you to the Camera Raw forum where the members there have a far better understanding of Camera Raw problems than I do.
If the generic advice doesn't work, it's time to bring in the specialists.   Click on that link and post your problem with the CR2 files.

  • LR 2.4 crashing on 500d cr2 files - CameraRaw!CTJPEGRotateImage

LR 2.4 is consistently crashing while viewing cr2 files from a Canon 500d / T1i.  I've just recently started using LR, but unfortunately it crashes so frequently (within a minute or two) that I haven't made it much past just importing my photos and starting to add keywords and delete rejects.  I'm curious if anyone else is running into this type of issue.  At this point my only real option is to give up on LR (just use DPP and then PS CS4) or perhaps try it on another PC in hopes that there's some incompatibility/problem on this specific box. . .  I hate to do this as we have LR licenses at work already plus I'd love to purchase it for home use as well. . .
    Environment:
    Windows XP x64 SP2
    LR DB on local NTFS
CR2 files on mapped network drive.
See Dr. Watson below for more. . .
    Steps to reproduce:
Do a couple of the following actions (all in the Library module):
Select imags and add keywords in grid view
Zoom in and out on a couple of images
Switch folders and repeat the first couple of steps
Usually I get crashes by doing this within a minute or two and by manipulating about 20-50 files (so very quickly).

Just for reference, my LR database is on my local disk, not on my network drive.  I have no issues using this network share with any other programs (such as DPP or Explorer).
I have all of the latest updates available from MS update, including the latest video driver from their site for my Nvidia 7900GS.  I'll check the Nvidia site and see if there are any other (newer) drivers available directly from them.
It has been a long while since I've done anything with RAW files, so this is really in all practicality my first experience and definitely so on this PC (I had a Canon G1, so yeah, a *long* time;->).  I probably have some older G1 raw files around I could try working with as well if messing with the video drivers doesn't make any difference.
I'll make some adjustments and get back to folks with results, thanks for the suggestions so far!

  • Unable to import psd/CR2 into LR 4.1

Scenario...needed larger HD and did a clean install of windows 7 after doing a search of my original HD for all PSD/CR2 images>
then doing the "drag drop" technique of copying/backing-up those images to another external and an internal HD.
Then did the instillation of that larger "C" HD and clean install of windows 7>copied those images into one newly created folder on that drive>
installed CS6 and LR 4.1 and...LR can't/will not recognize and import more than 500 out of 14,000 PSD/CS2 images.
I am able to access those images via windows explorer and open them into CS6 without difficulity.  I have done a couple un/reinstall of LR.
Every one of those images is located within one folder and no images anywhere else on the "C" drive.
Talk slow as I'm not very computer literate...FYI, I still have the original back-ups in two places.  I have watched the videos on importing images.
    Suggestions anyone...

It seems you have created quite a bit of a messy situation.
Since you have 66 lrcat-files, i.e. 66 different Lr catalogs, none of them would be a good starting point - because every one of them does not completely reflect your images.
The question mark that you are getting on the frame of the images is n indication that Lr does not "know" where this image is. In this context it is important that you know that Lr is not a browser based program. A browser based program "sees' whatever files are on the hard drive. Win Explorer is such a browser based program par excellence. But Lr is different; it "sees ' only those images that have been imported. When they are imported, Lr stores also the location of the images in its data base (= catalog). When youthen move or rename images outside of Lr (for instance in Win Explorer), the situation on your hard drive is different from what Lr has stored in its catalog. Then Lr sends you a "?" as an indication that it can't find the image.
In this situation you have basically two options:
    a) Take one of your 66 catalogs as a base and try to reconnect your images;
    b) start fresh at point 0. This option would have the consequence that you would loose all the edits that you did in Lr, and your images would be in the state they were in before you imported them into Lr for the first time.
    Let's talk about option (a):
You said you found 66 lrcat files. You can right-click each one in Win Explorer and select <Properties>. This would give you the dates when the file was created and when it was last modified. You have to select the lrcat file that has the most recent date of modification as your basis. Select all the other lrcat files and move them out of the way: Create a folder named <Old Lr catalogs + date> on your C-drive and move all the other lrcat files in there (Win Explorer > Edit >Move to folder).
Now double-click the one remaining lrcat file and Lr will open with it. Do not use the import function, rather proceed as follows:
In Grid View in the folders panel (left side) you will see "?" besides the folder names. Right-click a folder and select <Find Missing folder>, navigate to the location where this folder is now and click on it. You can do this for each folder separately, or if you have a structure of sub-folders under parent folders, you can do this <Find Missing folder> procedure for the parent folder and Lr will find the sub-folders on its own, provided that their names have not been changed. If you did change them you will have to do the <Find Missing folder> for each individual sub-folder, too.
If - after you have reconnect Lr to all the folders - single images still show question marks, you have to reconnect these images individually. Left-click the question mark directly and select <Locate>. Then navigate to the location of this image and click on it.
You see that this procedure might take quite a bit of work and time.
That's where option (b) comes in. But, as I already said if you go this route you would loose all your edits and everything you did so far with your images in Lr. You would start all over again. Here's how it goes:
Close Lr. In Win Explorer organize your image folders to your liking. Give them any structure and names - but one thing is important: You have to put all image folders into one (1) parent folder. Name it <My images> or whatever you like. You can put it into the <My pictures> system folder or you can have it separate from it.
When this is done find all your lrcat-files and move them out of the way (see above).
Now open Lr. Since Lr will not find a catalog it will open the Import Dialog (where it says source on the left side). Select the images parent folder as source and import your images.

I have Lightroom 4 and a new 70D camera and when I try to important my photos Lightroom says it doesn't recognize my CR2 files.  Can someone help?  I have downloaded 8.3 from Adobe, but still doesn't work?

Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. All of the Camera Raw technology is part of the Lightroom program. You will either have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 or use the DNG converter to create digital negative copies that can be used with Lightroom 4.

Hi I have been having a problem with Bridge in CS4 recently. So uninstalled CS4 and Lightroom 4.4 and reinstalled them on my Desktop PC. When I turned on Bridge through CS4, My thumb nail images disappeared and a thumb nail icon with CR2 appeared. Now some of my images have disappeared from Light room 4.4, but I can find them in CS4 and Bridge now shows some thumb nails as images and some as an icon with CR2. I have spent two weeks going through preferences etc. to find how to resolve my problem. Please can you Help? Meany thanks in advance

I don't use LR and rarely use the bridge so I can not answers about thumbnails in them,  However thumbnails in windows file explorer and windows dialog for CS2 files will only show if you have installed codec into windows that will produce them. Windows does not do CR2 thumbnails on its own. I use FastPictureViewer Codec package for RAW File and PSD files thunbmail support.

  • Updated to latest ACR 6.6 but still can't open CR2 files from Canon Rebel XSi

I updated to latest version of Adobe Camera Raw 6.6 but still can't seem to open my CR2 files in Photoshop. Can't open them in Lightroom either, no preview in Bridge or OS.
    I'm running OS 10.7.2 and Photshop 12.1 x 64 which is CS5.1 I suppose.
I've downloaded Canon's EOS utility hoping that would somehow do something as well but nothing.
The images were shot on Canon Rebel XSi which is certainly supported by the newest version of ACR. So I have no clue as to what's happening... I previously downloaded these images onto my old laptop about a year ago and everything was fine, however now I'm not even getting a preview in OS. Do I have to revert to an older version of ACR (perhaps the same one I used originally?) to open these files again? These files have been stored on a hard drive, so I'm not downloading them directly from the camera-again, this probably has nothing to do with it but not sure what to do. A lot of the posts I've seen recommend downloading the latest version of ACR to fix the issue, but again I've done that and as a matter of fact the camera (Rebel XSi) has been supported for some time now...
In OS, when the image is selected no preview:
    Lightroom error:
    Bridge, no preview:
    Photoshop error:

Something appears to be wrong with your files.
Are most of your images approx. 3.7 MB?
This is very small for a 12 MP image.
If you go back to the original file on your laptop, what is the file size?
Also the fact that the Mac OS is not showing the preview is unusual.
Perhaps these files got corrupted when they were moved to your new computer.
Can you open these files OK on your old laptop?
Is the OS showing the previews on your old laptop?
Also compare the file sizes between old and new computer.
Have you tried repairing your permissions?
Try Disk Utility in your Macs Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility to see if this helps.
    Good Luck!

After installation of latest Bridge and Photoshop version (2014.2.2) *.CR2 files will not be displayed correctly anymore, neither in preview nor in Camera Raw dialogue.
Some pictures have white squares with blue and red diagonal stripes that cover almost the complete picture.
When opening those files I have the same problem in Camera Raw dailogue and even in Photoshop eventually.
I tried to open the same same pictures on another computer with the same version of Bridge and Photoshop but the problem remains the same.
It seems like the files itselves are still ok, because if you open an explorer window the previews of the pictures are all ok. And the pictures' sizes remain the same.
I tried to clear the cache in both programs but it didn't help.
    Has anyone an idea????

First see if a reboot of your PC helps.  If not,
    Resets may be in order:
Photoshop: Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediately upon cold-starting Photoshop.  If you get the keys down quickly enough - and you have to be VERY quick - it will prompt you to confirm deletion of your established preferences, which will lead to them all being set to defaults.
Bridge:  Start Adobe Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) until the Reset Settings dialog box appears. Select all three options--Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache--and then click OK.
Outdated graphics drivers can also cause display problems. Go to your GPU maker's website and be sure you have the latest drivers for your card model.
