CR2 RAW files not supported?

I have PSE 8, and have installed Camera Raw 5.6 (verified by checking help, plugin information). My camera is a Canon T2i.
CR2 from this camera is not supported? Or did I do something wrong here? I cannot believe that it would not be supported. Can someone help me get on the right track here?
Thanks so much
Todd

Todd,
The Canon T2i is supported on Camera Raw 6.1. You can download the Camera Raw 6.1 update from the following site : http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4730
Here are the install instructions for the same:
To install with Adobe Photoshop Elements:
NOTE: You must follow all of the new instructions in order to successfully install the Camera Raw Plug-in for Photoshop Elements.
1. Exit Photoshop Elements
2. Open the download file and double-click CameraProfiles.exe and follow the on-screen instructions
3. Open My Computer
4. Double-click Local Disk (C:)
5. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats\
6. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
7. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as Step 5.
8. Launch Photoshop Elements

  • "Canon SLR EOS 40D"  *Aperture and Canon's CR2 RAW files not supported.*

    Hi,
I just started playing with Aperture, and with my brand new *Canon SLR EOS 40D* camera. One problem, Aperture is not recognizing the RAW file format. I am using RAW Fine**-L. Even with that it doesn't even see the JPG shots in Aperture. Went to the Canon site and it shows CR2 format. IPhoto 08 sees the JPG files just fine, It also sees the RAW files just doesn't know what to do with them. I know that RAW files are not supported on IPhoto 08. The camera is only been out a few months, but still lost on why Aperture doesn't support the format. Maybe I am missing something. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance....

For some reason or another Adobe Photo Shop 7 is no longer supported in Leopard. When you lunch Photo shop 7 in Leopard. You get "An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a Program error. Photo Shop will now exit." even if you reinstall the program, still you get the same error. Photo Shop 7 is Not the latest and greatest, but in most cases, that is all you need. Not sure if they plan on a fix, so for now I put that program on a shelve.
    Hope that helps

  • Raw files not supported

I have a new Canon T2i and can't seem to get the raw files to open in Elements 8. I have downloaded the 5.6 camera raw update and the DNG converter and both say camera raw files not supported......now what?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I  have also an EOS Rebel T2i since a few days and I experienced the same issue with Photoshop CS4.  What next? !!!!
It's likely the next version of Adobe Camera Raw will handle it;   Adobe updates ACR about every three or four months, and the most recent version was released in December:

  • After Effects CS6: Canon .CR2 RAW files not recognized as acceptable files for import?

    HI Folks,
I'm trying to import as I've seen on tutorials, my RAW files from my Canon 5D3  .CR2 files.  I can open them in PS and LR5….and I'd seen examples of folks opening them with AE CS6 standalone, but it doesn't seem to recognize mine.
Any thoughts? Is there something I need to update, or flag or change?
    I'm on a mac, OSX 10.7.5
    AE verson: 11.0.4.2
This is what my import screen looks like:
    Thanks in advance,
    C

I read through those linked pages, but they didn't give me any solution.
After nosing around through a LOT of sites on Adobe's site (why aren't pages dated, took forever to find the most up to date or pertinent pages)…I found this one that was slightly related, but worked for me.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/acr-84-bridge-cs6-metadata.html
I had to download this zip, and manually place the plugin as directed, and now, After Effects CS6 will recognize my CR2 raw files from my canon 5D3.
Thank you for the help, it led me in the right direction, but the link above was the actual solution I found that worked!!

  • Canon S95 CR2 raw files not recognized

I just bought my wife a Canon S95 specifically because it could produce raw files. I just tried to import her first pictures using Lightroom 3.2 and CR2 files are not supported. Silly me I did not check the supported camera list. The S90 is there but not the S95. When do you think Adobe will get around to supporting this camera?

    Hi Amir
    >As suggested above, use ExifTools.  After downloading it, you can simply run (under windows):
thanks it worked great with a Mac as well, within terminal. I added overwrite to remove the original ( I had already made a copy)
exiftool "-CanonModelID=PowerShot S90" -overwrite_original  /Volumes/DRIVE2/CanonS95/folder1 (wherever your files are located)
here's a link to more exiftool info if anyone else wants to give this a try.

    >In general, ACR/LR gets updated 3-4 times per year based mostly on the number of new cameras released in a time period.
thanks for the info, is the process of adding new cameras very involved, or are the delays because of difficulty getting raw data from the manufacturers?

  • D90 NEF (RAW) files not supported in Preview in Leopard 10.5.5

Nikon D90 NEF (RAW) files are not displaying in Finder. There is an updater for iPhoto 08 and Aperture 2 that supports these files: Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.3, but it won't install if you don't have these applications.
Anyway to install the update so that it works for Leopard?
My workflow is Finder/Automator/Preview/Lightroom, so Preview support is important to me - it seems strange that the updater doesn't install it.

    Hi Gordon Waddell;
So you want a patch for iPhoto 06 that does the same as the patch for iPhoto 08. IMHO you should hold your breath for it because I don't see much chance of that happening.
I suggest you upgrade your iPhoto or get Aperture.

  • Canon CRW Raw files not supported in Preview, Nikon supported

With Panther and Jaguar, Canon RAW files in crw format were supported in Preview. In Tiger, these files are not. Also, when importing these files from camera or CF reader, canon raw files tagged with .thm! What is this? an 8 kb "document" that renders file corrupt. Did not happen in Panther or Jaguar. And the problem is NOT my camera because it works fine on Windows PC and on previous OS mac.
here's the kicker: Nikon NEF raw format is NOW supported by Preview, but was NOT supported in Panther and Jaguar.
So, I called AppleCare and they say NO raw formats should be supported by Preview.
Another example of how Apple has lost compatibility and quality control?
Anyone else who uses RAW files in photography have same experience?
    Thanks.
    Michael.

The easiest way to edit plist files is with Property List Editor, which you get installed if you install the Developer stuff that comes with your OS install disks. If you don't want to add all that stuff your computer, it is possible to edit with a a straight text editing program in plain text. Personally I find that too confusing. I put a copy of my edited Raw.plist file up:
    http://homepage.mac.com/francines/.Public/Raw.plist.zip
It has the substitution of the S50 for the original S60. It also lists the S70, so your Canon S70 should be working. If it isn't working either, then this hack won't help you. Download and unzip the file.
Because of permissions--you aren't supposed to be mucking about in this area--the easiest way to proceed is using the Terminal. The path is, unfortunately, extremely long. You open the System folder, then the Library folder, then Frameworks, ApplicationServices.framework, then Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources. You should now see a list of files that includes the Raw.plist file. Leave that Finder window open.
Launch Terminal from your /Applications/Utilities folder. If you have never used it, nor ever used a sudo command you will get a friendly warning when you issue the first command. We want to make sure that the original file doesn't get lost. So type:
    sudo mv
and a space, then drag the Raw.plist file into the Terminal and drop it. The Terminal will helpfully fill in the path. Add a space, then copy the path up to the file name and paste, then type RawOld.plist as the new file name and hit the Return key. You'll need to type your password, which is NOT echoed to the screen, so type carefully and hit the return key again.
Next you want to add the modified Raw.plist file to the folder. Using a sudo copy command will insure that it belongs to system. So type
    sudo cp
add a space and drag the new Raw.plist file into the Terminal window. Paste in the path to the folder (it should still be on the clipboard) hit return, give your password and hit return again. I don't remember whether it was necessary to restart the Finder or not. You might want to do a restart and then Repair Permissions, just to be on the safe side.

  • XSI Raw files not supported

I have a new MacBook Pro and Aperture 2.14. None of my raw files from my XSI are supported in Aperture. I've tried reimporting the images, but nothing seems to work. I can see thumbnails of the images but get the red screen at full view.

The XSi is a supported camera:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
You didn't shoot as sRAW by any chance, did you? The "minimal" sRAW format is not currently supported by Aperture.

  • Raw Files not supported in my version of lightroom.

I recently bought a Nikon D3200 and the files are not supported in lightroom 3 which is the version currently have on my computer. I didnt want to upgrade it yet because i am planning on buying a new computer soon. I tried to download the camera raw 7.0 patch but kept getting an error that says "Update Failed. This patch is not aplicable for you. Please check the help menu in your product for updates."  I did check my product and there are no updates avaliable. What should i do?

Downloading Camera Raw isn't going to help you at all with Lightroom. Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. If you want support for your camera you will have to upgrade your Lightroom. And you can easily move everything to the new computer as long as you have your images well organized. Otherwise, it could be a challenge to relink your images.

  • Canon T3i RAW Files not supported

I just purchased the Canon T3i and its RAW files are not supported on my Photoshop CS5.   What can I do?

    Hello!
Even if 6.4.1 was the first one to support your camera, given the fact that each versions brings small bug fixes, I'd recommend to update to the latest version for CS5, Camera Raw 6.7, you can get it at this link:
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5371
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5370
I would recommend also to download and install the latest version of the DNG converter 7.2, in case you want to process files made in cameras that were released after Camera Raw 6.7:
    Win: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5486
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5485

  • Nikon D200 Raw files not supported?

    Hi,
Recently purchased the D200 and discovered that the Raw files are not supported. Just wondering if it is Aperture or the 10.4.4 that is causing the problems. Anyone else facing the same problems?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Recently purchased the D200 and discovered that the
Raw files are not supported. Just wondering if it is
Aperture or the 10.4.4 that is causing the problems.
Anyone else facing the same problems?
    Thanks
    In very simple terms...
In order to add support for various camera RAW files, Apple has to ask the camera manufactures to supply proprietary information about how to process and read the RAW files. Each and every single camera has a different "proprietary process" it must use to handle the RAW file that the camera produces.
So that means that Apple is at the mercy of the manufacturers in order to get that information. Now most manufactures would prefer that you purchase or use their own software to work on the RAW files that their camera produces... it's an extra revenue stream for them. Because of this, it's not hard to imagine that they are a bit reluctant to divulge what is proprietary information that they spent time and money on creating. It's well documented that Nikon in particular is very reluctant about releasing such information.
If Adobe has support for a particular camera that Apple does not, then that means that Adobe has already gone through the trouble of asking the manufacture for the information that is needed, reached an agreement and signed the appropriate licensing contracts, exchanged whatever compensation was agreed upon, and then went to work making the software for ACR so it can read that particular cameras RAW files. As you can imagine, it's a process that takes some time to hammer out... more than likely because it involves more lawyers than engineers!
So... be sure you let Apple know that you would like them to add support for a particular camera, but just as important, make sure that your cameras manufacturer knows that you would like them to allow Apple to support their cameras with Apple's software.

  • Sigma RAW files not supported in ACR

    Hi,
I am trying to get support for the RAW files from my Sigma DP2 Merrill in Photoshop but this does not seem to possible. Can anyone help? ACR will not recognize them although the list of cameras supported does refer to the DP2

From what I'm reading online, yes, there are different DPn sensors.
In the last six months Adobe Raw Engineer Eric Chan has said there is no time table for support in Adobe products:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/sigma_sd1_when_will_the_merrill_sens ors_be_supported_please
I have two theories why Adobe doesn't support the Merrill sensors.
    1)  From Googling I see an open letter to the president of Sigma asking Sigma to make the internals of the Merrill format public knowledge so raw vendors can support it.  I see other posts about how the format has been reverse-engineered by others and some programs do support it.  On Macs, Iridient Developer does a reasonable job:  http://www.iridientdigital.com/  My conclusion from this information is that Adobe cannot legally use the reverse-engineered code and doesn't have other information from the camera manufacturer to do their own conversion.  The other problem could be one of intellectual property rights.  If Adobe uses open-source code in their products which aren't free, then whomever did the reverse-engineering could sue Adobe for compensation, and with Adobe having a billion-dollar market cap that would be a tempting target for lawyers.
    2)  Or, perhaps Adobe can do a conversion but the quality isn't very good because their low-level processing is optimized for RGGB Bayer arrays.  This is the current situation with the novel layout in Fuji X-Trans raw files, Adobe's raw conversion lacks detail compared to other products.

  • Cannon CR2 raw files not opening in Preview.

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion, and now my Cannon CR2 files are no longer opeing in Preview or QuickLook.
Opeing in Preview causes Preview to open, and the crash, and clearing the Preview prefrence files did not help.
Looking at the file in QuickLook reports "An error has occured with the previe of this document," and just shows the defualt Preview icon.
Has anyone else come accross this? I have an Rebel XTi, which has been supported since about 10.5 or so, and is listed by Apple as a supported camera and format, and it worked all the way up until installing 10.8 this moring.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.

Well, my joke stands corrected by the Great Insider hisself.
The funny thing is that I think this particular support policy is good, yet here we find ourselves arguing.  It would be rather nasty but for the DNG converter solution, which I DID mention, and which turns it around completely and makes Adobe the good guys.

  • Some Canon CR2 RAW Files Will Not Open In Elements 8

I use a Canon 7D DSLR.  Up until 30 minutes ago I never had a problem opening Canon CR2 RAW files in Photoshop Elements 8.
Some files still open others do not.  I can think of only one thing.  I was shooting a large number of frames and reduced the RAW Image size down from RAW Large Only to RAW Medium with Small Jpeg to give me more room on the Compact Flash Card.
The Large RAW only CR2 files open fine in PSE 8, the Jpegs open fine, but the smaller sized CR2 files will not open and I get a wrong file type message in PSE8.
Any ideas why this would happen?  I suspect it is a function of the camera setting, but all RAW files download as CR2 files.
I appreciate any guidance in this matter.  Needless to say I am resetting my camera back to Large RAW files only.
    Alex

ACR 5.x only supported full-sized 7D RAWs, but ACR 6.x supports 7D mRAW and sRAW, so just update to the latest version of the plugin, following the PSE-specific instructions:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
sRAW and mRAW files are not RAWs because the camera has already demosaicked them to RGB and encoded them as lossless JPG.
Here is technical information on the reduce-sized RAWs:
